They rent on a month by month basis but there was an option to pay for an entire year. While the website says the types of payments they accept does not include CC the manager said they can but they charge the customer the CC fee they would be charged and they let you know that up front. The price is reasonable and it was stated that it only goes up yearly. So as of now I am quite satisfied with the place and a bonus it that it is only a mile a way. As compensation they only provided 1 months free rent - I had my unit from June until January and after knowing about this problem the entire time, not only did I not get my check until December, but they never mentioned how they were going to FIX their mice problem. I also had to personally drive to the office to pick up my reimbursement check, because maybe mailing it would cost too much or something. (?) In the end, I lost hundreds of dollars of personal belongings, kids toys, items of attachment, and I had to personally clean off all the mice droppings off my stuff on MY OWN DIME. The smell in the unit was absolute awful my last day there.

We have been on the road for several years and couldn't move out of this location, otherwise we would have. The staff cost us a LOT of money! We moved from a small unit to two larger units, then had relatives come by and take things out while we traveled. When they got us down to one large unit, we asked staff to make sure that we had the same gate access code. The person we talked to (Leo?) assured us that would be the case. A family member rented a truck and brought a friend out from Chicago to pick up some things. They couldn't get in, and since it was the weekend, nobody was in the office. So they wasted the cost of the truck rental and their time. Then after we got that straightened out, we were able to downsize to one smaller unit. I called Leo again, and he assured me that the gate code would be the same. Again, the relative rented another truck and got a helper - guess what, the gate code had been changed again, even though Leo promised us it wouldn't be. Asked point blank, Leo said he had no idea that gate codes changed automatically when renters moved into different units. It wasn't until AFTER this that we were told about the kiosk in the office entryway, but that might not have helped because when our relative arrived, we were out of cell range and couldn't have provided login info. Then when we finally left the facility completely, they wouldn't pro-rate the month's rent (we left on the 3rd). "Company policy!" I guess company policy overrides the money and time we wasted believing your staff when they said we could use the same gate code. And again, they had raised the rate on us. The new place we rented with a competitor cost us less than half what we were paying at Global Storage, and it has far superior carts for moving items into/out of storage. We often had to go hunting for carts because there aren't enough spread around. Also, the exterior doors have door stops on them, to prop open the doors - and most of those door stops are broken! The last day, when we moved out, a man was cleaning fishing equipment and other stuff right in the main entrance near our unit. He blocked access for about 45 minutes, so we had to go the long way around to our stuff. Staff should have noticed this on their video system and asked him to move. Currently, there are a lot of empty units at this storage facility, and now I know why.

In addition, I have helped people move in and out of their own storage units. 4M Self Storage has been the best experience that I have had with a storage company. Steve is a great manager and he knows how to run a business. He is very professional and makes sure you have the information needed to make a good decision. I have had 2 different size units at this location and both have been great. In fact, I had to get a larger unit and he walked me around to the different units, because I am more of a visual person. I had locked my unit, but I did not do the extra step and Steve called me to let me know that it was not correctly locked. If you need a storage unit, this is the place to store your possessions.

We showed up and were told the truck needed to be picked up at a location on Joliet Street in Plainfield, 20 minutes in the direction we had just come from. The service rep was a complete disinterested mumbling corn-rowed jackass with ear buds that could barely muster the effort to engage with us. Do not ever rent a U-Haul from this location. You would think that given the size of the location (and the fact that it isn't the typical U-Haul spot with 2 trucks next to a shady gas station) that they wouldn't have to send you away, but alas they did. Run from this place.

Knowing that the cost and effort once moved in will more or less trap you there. The disclaimer that the rate isn't guaranteed doesn't change the fact that I've only been there 5 months AND FOR 2 MONTHS I couldn't use it through most of the winter because the entry keypad was completely frozen in the morning and the driveways were uncleared of snow and ice and you have to u-turn to get out so I couldn't even ACCESS the space that I have now received 30%!!! increase after 5 months. It's dishonest and unfair since there is a significant cost to relocate and they know it. I don't recommend, don't be fooled by the low entry rate - the increase is not insignificant. Go with a place that tells you exactly what you will pay upfront first because at least then you are dealing with an honest company that deserves your business. Adding that I think I am filing a complaint with BBB because raising the rent 30% after 5 months knowing that moving is a costly and time consuming task is actually more than just jerky it's deceitful and a bait and switch.
