When I first got a unit there the ladies (who are now gone) were amazing, friendly & most importantly AVAILABLE. In the last year the customer service declined significantly. You never know if anyone is working because often the office door is locked and the lights are off. In the past, if someone was gone for lunch, a sign was posted with the return time. Apparently they stopped using it. I tried to return my lock & keys last week after moving out of my unit. I rang the bell but no one came after multiple rings. There's a sign that says to text or call if no one is there & they will come running. Nope. I texted but didn't get an answer. I called and the man who answered wasn't even on site. He said "she" is at lunch & I have to wait. So much for "we'll come running". Well she did come running & by that I mean stepped out from a room to mouth something to me. I asked the guy on the phone if I needed to actually return the lock to get refunded. His reply, rather sarcastic "If you want your money back you do." Apparently the staff think their customers are mind readers & lip readers. What company - that is a customer service based one - closes its office for lunch? At least put a sign up or put in the office & facility times "closed for lunch at ..." i just left because I cannot tolerate incompetency & unreliability when it comes to taking my money. I returned several days later when I was hopefully past the nebulous lunch time. At approximately 5p the lights were out in the office & the door locked. Well lunch on Wed must be right before closing at 6p I guessed. After knocking & ringing the bell, a light in an adjacent room suddenly went off. Hmmm maybe lunch is in the dark now since obviously whomever was back there wanted me to think no one was there. I left. This time I called the main corporate office. The rep said they don't usually refund the locks & they belong to the tenant. She said she would contact the location to find out. All she did was transfer me there without telling me that so when a man suddenly came on, I assumed it was another person from corporate so I just said I'm on hold but that someone was already helping me. He revealed he was at the facility & what did I need. I said I need to return the lock & keys but none one was there again. This person Chris, had to be one of the rudest examples of customer service and entitlement issues. He tried to lie his way out of it that he had been at the desk in the office the whole time. Since I took pix of the dark office, I caught him in the lie so he thought he could tell me to calm down & count to ten to gaslight me that I was being rude. He literally said I was not to talk to him disrespectfully. Since I was not doing at all but being assertive & not letting him lie his way out of it, he thought he could be cute & say that. First, Chris when you read this: you get respect by earning it, not by lying to CYA. You do not earn respect by lying and rudeness. Second, if you encounter a customer who is upset over an issue that occurred for the second time you should be professional - apologize for the issues & what can I do to fix this so you are a happy customer. He would not shut up & talked over me the entire conversation because he desperately needed to cover the lie that he was in the office when I came. Finally, he shut up trying to justify his behavior to say he was still there & I could come over before 6. Luckily, he was there & wasn't lying about it this time. The lights were on. & he was at the desk. I returned the lock & keys. I tried to give him a piece of advice by telling him he will never get respect until he earns it because of his attitude. He literally told me to leave & said he didn't care what I had to say. I said ok, I'll put it in my reviews. He is so entitled that he said make sure you include Google . I laughed. This is why companies get bad reviews, lose customers & go out of business. They hire unprofessional people who feel like they have some sort of entitlement working with customers who offend them. Again, people at this location were NEVER like this in the past. What Chris cannot understand is the customers give him a paycheck & he cannot connect those simple dots. He should also learn you can't lie your way out of something. While I am no longer a customer, I may likely be one in the future. It's not the first time I have had a storage unit and not the first time there. However, what I won't do and will encourage others not to do, is to rent at a place that keeps people like Chris employed or with companies that close for lunch with its already very limited hours. Next time I will take my approx $300/mo month for 24 months to a place with nice people, available people & good honest people. Not one with always at lunch shady ones! read more

My move in was an absolute nightmare. I booked my unit on 11-17. I relayed my move in date for today. I even stopped by yesterday to confirm. My movers arrive and the elevator isn't working. Apparently, it hasn't worked for a while. This would have been nice to know before moving into a unit on the second floor. I was then upsold the only unit available, because what was I supposed to do with a van filled with furniture. The cost differential is nearly $100. Someone before me had the exact issue and the sales associates berated me saying, he "understood." What I understood is I booked a unit weeks in advance. I confirmed the unit and I'm supposed to be okay with paying so much more than I anticipated? At this rate, I could have stayed at public storage. Honestly, I think this is a ploy to sell more expensive units and taking advantage of vulnerable people who have nowhere else to go with their possessions. I'm pretty disgusted I got scammed for doing everything right. Now I'm stuck paying more money for a unit I had no other choice to take. Also, really shady for people like me who have disabilities that you don't have a functioning elevator. read more

I have been using the facility for years. Since being taken over by the new owners my monthly rent has went from $38. to $62. a 60% increase in 13 months. Housing prices have decreased by 6% and rent has decrease by 1.7% in the same period. Also the hours have been cut from being open 84 hours per week to about 50. The place appears no cleaner, there are not anymore surveillance cameras How is the facility improved??? read more

The staff is kind, professional and extremely accommodating. Marcela has been a pleasure to work with. She has made my transition to one unit to another with ease and a smile. Rosa is amazing. HUGE UNANNOUNCED RENT INCREASES ARE THE WAY THEY MAKE MONEY. Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Without notice!!! 4. Only when I called them on this did they agree to a PARTIAL refund, and would not guarantee future increases would not happen. 5. They also changed my access code without notice, so when I went to my unit weeks later, I could not get in without another renter giving me their access code. I am REPORTING THIS BUSINESS TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. When I WAS able to get to my unit, it was under the endless SCREECHING of rats in the ceiling a few feet away. Whenever I've had to interact with front desk personnel, they've conducted themselves in a cordial, humorous and most importantly, informative manner. Come to think of it, the off site support staff were equally as helpful. In fact, what they couldn't help with themselves, was redirected to the on-site manager for help. Ever since Extra Storage took over this place has gone down the trash. My rent was raised almost $100 for a tiny room, the hours are now shorter when they use to be open from about 7-7p. Now it's office hours. 9-5. This will be my last month with them. It really sucks because I loved this place before they took over. read more

Do not trust them! After only a few months they raised the rent to almost double the price, a price I cannot afford. When I got a unit here a few months ago they falsely advertised that the unit I got on the second floor had elevator access. It turned out that the elevator was broken for months and was going to take a long time to be fixed. Since I wasn't physically able to move my items up the stairs I requested that they get the elevator fixed. After a week of calling to get the elevator fixed I was told the elevator wasn't going to be fixed anytime soon. Finally the regional manager called me back. She talked me into accepting a unit on the 1st floor for the same price I was paying so I wouldn't have to move the items up the stairs. Now I really regret taking up the offer. Now that I have moved all my stuff into the unit they have raised the rent to almost double the price. I called and they said I can get a cheaper price if I move all my stuff to a unit on the second floor since the elevator is now fixed. With all my stuff moved into the unit this will probably take me three days to do. This isn't fair, especially since the only reason I got the unit on the first floor was because the regional manager talked me into accepting it because of the elevator problems and their false advertising when I got a unit. read more

This place deserves 0 stars. I've been a client of this storage facility for 20+ years. Always paid my rent on time and had a good relationship with the previous management. Since Extra Space Storage took over the business the service has gone way down and prices way up. I have a small storage unit that I used to pay $104/month for. Rent raises used to be 2-3% every other year. This year, now that Extra Space Storage has taken over, they raised the rent almost 80%. It went from $104 to $181! Price gauging is in full effect. After I called to complain and spoke to the mgr Chenise, I was told she was going to talk to corporate to see if she could lower the rent as she too agreed it was too much. She never called me back. I called multiple times, always getting the runaround. Finally I spoke to someone else in the office and they confirmed that my new rent was going be 151, a mere 50% rate hike. Just saw my billing statement and I was still charged 181! I'm reporting this to the better business bureau. DO NOT RENT SPACE HERE! TOTAL SCAM! read more

Please fix the elevator! I rented the storage unit online. I paid for one that was advertised as having elevator access. When I got there, I found out that the elevator had been out of order for months, and they weren't planning to fix it for 3 months. The attendant refused to exchange the unit for one at ground level for the same price. He said I would have to pay $100 more, which I can't afford. This was very frustrating, as I was counting on there being elevator access. I'm a 5'3 female with bad knees and a bad back, so moving my stuff up the stairs is causing me a lot of pain. They said the elevator was out of order due to a problem with the electricity voltage. I'm having trouble believing this explanation because I previously had a unit here for two years and there was never a problem with the elevator. I have tried to call the corporate office only to be told by a person to leave a message, and a regional manager would call me back about the issue. It has been three days since I called. This manager hasn't called me back. This storage facility used to be independently owned, but ever since corporate Extraspace took over, it has gone downhill. read more
