Extra space is clean and they manage the property well. But... it all comes with a price. Make sure to read the contract when applying for a lease. They have a section where it states that your lease is subject to change with the demand of the units on property. So as the demand goes up your lease goes up. My wife and I have a lease for a unit and for the first three months we had set price and within one month it went up over $30! We literally moved across the world so we can't come and move out. This is some pretty terrible business! The really found a way to trap people into contracts and milk as much from them as the they can. read more

Ever since Extra Space Storage took over the property, the quality of the service has gone downhill. Vandalism, drug use, and homelessness inside the facility. Lol I have never, ever cared about any restaurant or business enough to write two five star reviews but I really want to make sure that readers understand that this ESS is phenomenal and I would trust them with my life. I mean I already kind of do, as they are holding my entire life of belongings from baby pics to my grandpas WW2 medals, to my furniture and handmade custom Hawaiiana. So anyway they were such a blessing when I had to put my stuff in storage a few months back, and I had put the lock on wrong and because they do daily checks and have tons of cameras, they are kind enough to put a new lock and secure my unit while I wasn't there. No charge ofc. They made sure my stuff was secure and protected. When I went back last week, they were so helpful and showed me to my unit, taught me how to properly apply the lock, and were so darn courteous! The entire experience is so easy that it actually reduces my stress level, bc I KNOW that when I deal with them or go to the unit, that it will be easy and hassle free and no weird random things will happen to mess it up. If you need a storage unit on island, I highly recommend, I can't recommend more, so much, to use ESS. So so convenient, easy online auto payments, easy parking and access to the building, super duper helpful employees (ALL OF THEM!), safe and reliable process. Even if you're east side like Waimānalo or as west as Chinatown, I would say it's worth it to use ESS as your storage unit. Plus it's by that Aloha Gas station (?) that is really good too. It's also near Safeway, Costco, longs, city mill, Ross, and other stuff. But the pandas there sucks fyi. Ok. Thanks. Ps also there's stray cats that are so cute in that parking lot! read more

Friendly staff, good facility, clean and secure. Temp is not a/c to human temp but acceptable for storage. We rented a couple of units on the first floor which makes it easier than going up in the elevators. Loading trolleys are provided and you can back up right to the door. The customer service at this facility is anything but short of Amazing. I first met Anna to tour the facility to get an idea as to the size of storage unit I needed. She was very accommodating and offered to show us multiple units. Two weeks later I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer, the facility manager whom again showed us multiple storage units to make sure we had enough room to store our belongings. She even took time to find us a unit in close proximity to the elevator. Her professionalism and customer service definitely went above and beyond. She was both personable and friendly. First of all, I can't say enough about the staff at the Kalanianaole Hwy ExtraSpace storage. Deborah was wonderful. She was very helpful. She knew that I was going to have pallets, she started working on the transferring me to the unit next-door to my unit. So I have an easier time getting my pallets in the storage unit. Debrah wanted Jeff to do the transfer as a teaching moment, which, I just love when people learn how to do things, right. This is a pretty old unit. There are no elevators. There are lifts that only you can put items in. My unit was on the 2nd floor. They charged me for a lock. The one in Hawaii Kai gave me a free one. This is not a temp controlled unit which for the price is what you get. It's old. I just have to use it for now. I should've checked it out before moving my stuff. read more

This place is clean, and in a great location. Because of that, they charge more to begin with, but I was ok with that base on location. Now, 2 months into having my storage unit, they sent me a notice that they were raising my price by 20% effective immediately. I truly thought this must have been a mistake so I went in and asked the manager, who said that in the agreement it says they have the right to raise the prices at any time. So that means that even if I was okay with this, who knows if they're going to raise it again in 30 days? Dane, the new manager however took care of the issue and was very helpful and reversed the charge. While the price is still exorbitant, the service remains excellent, too bad the corporate after buying Storsecure wanted much higher profits. I rented the 5X10-foot storage space for 22 months. Initially, it was very reasonable. The rent has been raised twice. Recently, the monthly rent, insurance, and tax increased from $187 to $272 per month! I realized that we could replace what we stored in there several times a year for less than the annual rent! We moved a lot to our home and donated a lot to Goodwill. If the rent were more reasonable, I would have given 5 stars. The facility is well-maintained for the most part, clean, and air-conditioned. The office staff, Dane and Aunty Misty, are extremely helpful. Any business would benefit from their friendliness and efficiency. They get five stars! read more

I stored a two-bedroom apartment's worth of stuff here for a year and thought it was a great experience and highly recommend it. Beginning with the tour of the facility, I was impressed. I've never seen a storage building so clean! The place is spotless top to bottom and you'll routinely see the staff walking around with a cleaning cart sweeping and cleaning. Location is a big factor here. It's perfectly located for people who live in Hawaii Kai and the nearby valleys. It's a two-mile drive from my apartment, which made it very easy to move most things myself. Speaking of moving, for big movers, they have a large loading dock with three spaces large enough to accommodate moving trucks. I even saw a full shipping container being unloaded here. You can't reserve the spaces, so it's first come first served, which can be a problem at busy times. Like others have noted, the price is a bit high and the contract terms are unfavorable, notably the clause that allows them to raise the rent price with 30 days notice. Absent, of course, is any mention of lowering the rent, and there's no insight as to why the rent is raised. So I dock a star for that. My rent was raised once in the year I stored things here, I think by about $50. With taxes and everything included I paid about $500/mo for a 10x15 first floor unit. It's cheaper than maintaining a lease on my old apartment, so I was okay with it, but I bet you can find a cheaper place in town. After a year in a dark garage, my stuff emerged entirely unharmed. No bugs, not even any dust. Exactly as I left it. I think considering how well this place is maintained, it makes it worth the price. read more
