Their hours are not customer friendly and they're misleading because they lock the front door around 845pm but say you can access until 9pm. Because of this is it not a good value. They should at least adjust the closing time to 10pm which isn't really that late anyway and their employees go home at 6pm so why not? read more

No one is ever on site, it is miserable to talk to their call center and get the run around about renting a space. I do not recommend.

I started renting a 5 x 5 at about $124/month. Every few months the rate went up. I was on autopay and on Nov 1, it rose about $100/month to about $450/month. I cleared out the unit and terminated the account today, Nov 6. There is NO refund for Nov 7 to 30. Public Storage will rent the same space to someone else and get double $$ for the period Nov 7 to 30. There's nobody assigned to this location; Public Storage has no overhead; and yet I don't get a refund for the early return of the space. What a money suck. Poor service. $124/month was okay but now, really bad value. read more

THIS PLACE IS NOT THAT SECURE. I've been renting from here since the early 2000's and never had any problems till now. However, the break-in which happened a couple weeks ago was a doozy !!! Over $50k worth of items were stolen from my locker which must have happened over a span of several months since I hadn't been to my locker recently. Lots of valuable items like my mom's coin collection as well as some very valuable family heirlooms which were given to my parents over 60 years ago. As I reflect back I should have been concerned when the person who checked me in suggested that I purchase insurance. My response was "if I felt I needed insurance I should look elsewhere to store my things". Well needless to say ... I made a BIG mistake by trusting this place. The problems with this facility is that there isn't 24 hour attendant security. After business hours there's no one in the office monitoring the cameras. There aren't enough cameras to view all the aisles and whatever video they record gets erased after a while. The alarm that rings if an unauthorized person opens your locker only rings in the office and not throughout the entire facility which means after hours no one is alerted to any break in. There's no gate (either that or it's broken) to the parking lot to keep unauthorized vehicles out after business hours. The top of the lockers are covered by flimsy chicken wire and connected to another layer of chicken wire (if there's not enough to cover the entire locker) with nylon zip ties which can be easily cut. I think that's how the thief that took my stuff got in ... either that or they picked the lock. One of my friends told me that they were told that there were several break-ins here and he recommended that I move my stuff out. I think that if you're storing clothes or household items this place is ok but anything of value I couldn't recommend here. read more

Play employees of Public Storage went in and robbed everything of value once I have moved everything in. This is not the only Public Storage facility that robs their clients. They also would not cooperate with the police to show camera footage. I wanted to make everyone aware. read more

Today I went to Public Storage to get a storage unit. The woman who helped us, Willa, was delightful! She was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, eager to help, kind and made COVID compliance painless. She cheerfully answered all of my questions, offered us available promotions, guided us through the entire process and took the frustration out of moving storage from the old place to here. Deceptive pricing: the quote they give you doesn't include the mandatory insurance they force you to buy. Limited viable access: they advertise long access hours but take the hand trucks away after 5pm. What's the point of late access if you can't move anything? Rude cancellation: they promised they would prorate my last months rent. I moved out on the 8th. They refused to prorate. Inconvenient location and layout: you can only turn right out of the faculty which then forces you westbound on the H1 or waialae. The main access door is often blocked by cars that park in front meaning you cannot wheel the hand truck to/from your vehicle. They don't have a loading zone. read more

Zero stars if could. My lock was tampered with. Had to get lock cut just to find things stolen from my unit. Apparently there's been a few cases (6 or more police reports filed in the last month) from this location. Do not rent from here!!! I am still in process of claiming through insurance. Just got off the phone with their front desk. Was looking to rent a unit. He doesn't know how to even closely pronounce their street name, but no big deal...other than lack of training. Then he continually wants to ask me what I am putting in the storage so he can help me out with the size of unit I need. I politely answer him 2x ending each time by saying I appreciate your help but i can determine what size I need and to please just let me know what the minimum size unit is. He told me the smallest size. i told him, ok thats too small, whats the next size, he tells me and goes into this sales pitch of all the costs. I tell him that is fine, but whats the next size. He proceeds to tell me "that I would be best to just go online, because we just keep going around in circles". I told him no, you just arent listening to what I'm asking for, and only want to give your standard customer service speal". Terrible customer service and training. You could have had a sale today. read more

I currently have three storage lockers I access on a regular basis. The facility is always clean and easy to access. My feeling is the workers there take great pride in being employed there as what they do is of utmost importance. WILLA was fantastic in helping me move in.....I had to keep rescheduling a meet but she complied and was patient. She did her best to make sure the space I was getting was appropriate in size. Absolutely a wonderful person to do business with here....I actually closed my original account with them last October and found myself needing storage yet again.......I wouldn't go anywhere else. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. For some reason, could not get into my on-line account to pay the rent on an off-island Public Storage unit. Went to this Public Storage in Kahala to pay in person. First, made a fatal mistake by misremembering one digit of a phone number I rarely use. Who remembers their own phone number any way? Much less one that is hardly used? Well, you'd think I was trying to commit a felony . . . paying someone else's bill? At first the two women working there looked at me like they should call the police. They didn't want to take my payment because I got one digit wrong on my phone number, which I corrected as soon as they told me it didn't match their records. Then they grudgingly decided to take the payment, but informed me the late fee would be over $100! That's a 20% usurious interest rate! Per month, that's 240% over one year. There's gotta be a law about usury that applies to Public Storage. Or maybe not. I was two days late, thinking, like most businesses, when the due date is on a weekend, the next business day is good enough. But not with Public Storage. By now, I was outraged at the treatment I received, thought about it, and decided I didn't need to work with these unhelpful people at the Kahala facility and left without paying. Went directly to the Public Storage facility in Kaimuki and the clerk was very helpful. At least I was able to recall my phone number by then so as not to raise her suspicions! The clerk there informed me that since this was my first time with a late payment, after nine years, I could ask for a one time waiver by calling the 1-800 number. This waiver was NEVER mentioned at Kahala. They were ready and eager to take my $100+ late fee. So glad I walked out! I called the 1-800 number, got the waiver, and everything was fine. Going forward, I would have nothing to do with the Kahala facility and their unhelpful attitude and performance. There are plenty other storage facilities here, enough to be able to fine the level of professional courtesy and assistance you want. read more

Public Storage has no spirit of Aloha! We had to move out of our storage unit on the first of the month. It literally took 2 hours. However, because it is a month-to-month contract, they felt there was no choice but to charge us rent for the ENTIRE MONTH of over $200. Public Storage - since you don't even pro-rate the days of the month you use, don't you think it might be good business to allow a one day grace period? I have rented spaces from them numerous times. Maybe it's a corporate issue or a district issue but they need way more cameras. We rented a 5x5 unit over the summer for my daughter who's going to college nearby. She moved out of her unit prior to the month ending and received confirmation of that from the staff. We got charged another month of storage fees because she didn't know (and no one there told her) that she needed to remove the lock. I'm sure they saw the lock on the unit as she's been moved out for nearly a week but at no time did anyone there call her to let her know to come get her lock. Instead, only 2 days into the month and they will not refund any $$$ back. This won't be the last time we'll have to use storage over the summer break but it will be the last time we ever rent from Public Storage! Way to lose repeat business all due to a lack of communication. read more

I had an extremely bad experience with Public Storage. The staff is unprofessional and unwilling to help in even the most basic requests. Their security is severely lacking and I did not feel like my valuables were safe there. They have no cameras and the units are so flimsy that they can be easily broken in to. Not to mention there is no form of surveillance. The staff doesn't monitor who accesses your unit and it's basically a free for all. If you don't want your valuables stolen with so many other storage companies in Honolulu I would highly suggest looking elsewhere (somewhere with cameras and security). read more

Just today, I get a call from Public Storage (June), asking if I still wanted to rent the space I had "reserved". I told her when I went there a day before my appt they told me the unit was no available. She said it is first come first served. I told her what's the use of reserving if they don't honor or hold space as it is first come first served. She said she is not customer service; I told her if she could connect me to customer service, and just hang up on me. This is NOT a one time event. Too bad we cannot select ZERO stars on Yelp! If there is any company on Oahu who deserves a zero rating it is THIS Public Storage, located across the street from Kahala mall. Who they chose to employ makes it a terrible option compared to other Storage Services on the Island. Read the other reviews about theft and misleading information from employees, who may even be those involved in all the theft reports. I have concluded that there is something most definitely wrong with this specific Public Storage location, especially after having to deal with a girl named "Shannon" more than a couple of times, who has an incredibly snotty and poorly-mannered attitude. (ZERO customer-facing business skills) Today, I had movers go to our storage to pick up the rest of our things to be shipped to the mainland, and my daughter who was representing me on Oahu was forced to pay a full month rent when we were initially told prior to signing up, that if closing our account earlier than month-end we would only pay a prorated amount. I advised this Shannon girl about this, and without any care she did nothing to help; no investigation, no care that I was a paying customer or focus on quality of service, but rather a terrible, unprofessional attitude stating "it's on your contract", and then silence. There was much more to the conversation but I rather stay professional during this review and not have to lower myself to the level of this poor excuse of a "so called manager" who has no people skills or knowledge of professionalism whatsoever. I was even about to use the services of this Public Storage facility to clear out my daughter's place and business office on the Island for the last stage of our move; however, with employees, moreso managers who are not experienced with providing even as little as mediocre customer service, this business is definitely NOT trustworthy. I called their District manager, Caryl, twice reaching a voice message greeting that states she is unable to take my call at the moment, but hopefully she calls back to initiate an investigation of the very misleading information my wife and I were provided with during our initial sign-up. I will be sure to update my post to provide the results of escalating this very stressful problem to their district manager. read more

My experience at the Kahala Public Storage was phenomenal :) I felt relaxed and reassured about everything. I got the $1 deal for the first month, shown the storage space, and all the paperwork explained. Thank you Gloria for being awesome! Total with fees and the bed cover was less than $50! What a deal! The ladies at the Kahala Public storage are so helpful! They made getting my storage unit a breeze. I booked the same day and in a few hours had all of my belongings loaded and settled. I was only storing items for 3 weeks but I found the whole process pretty easy. I would definitely recommend using them again if I need storage in the future. p.s. there are plenty of carts to use and the building is air conditioned. Gloria was awesome! She was so nice and professional. She found a great unit for my siituation, and was really helpful returning unused boxes that I had purchased. I specifically asked if they pro rate by day for that last months rent and was told that they did. When I called to do my final checkout they told me they only pro rate up until the 6th of the month and I was stuck paying for 3 weeks of storage I didn't need. Lying to your customers upfront so that they mistakingly leave their items with you past the prorate point is a borderline scam and is not good business practices. Only leaving 2 stars because the facility is in decent condition read more

Hi there, the admin staff is very nice and very helpful. ***** five stars to Gloria that help me professionally. A note on the $1 promo PS offers. I sign up for 72 sq.f. storage with first month promo of $1 rent. End paying $62 for the first 20 days (they bill on the 1st of the month, so if you begin later than the 1st of the month, you will pay the first pro rata rent the day you move in and then the first 1st of the month you will pay a new bill for 30 days. In the first bill I paid: - $ 1 rent (ok) - $ 25 admin fees (it should have been $24 as per when I registered for it!) - $ 15 compulsory insurance that covers $5000 (did not see this compulsory insurance in the registration and booking) - $ 20.93 locker that otherwise is not provided by PS (did not see any notice about the fact they do not provide the padlocks for the storage, so if you do not have one you have to buy it!). About security, I can confirm what is written by other people. The area does not seems very secure, there is an access time outside trading hours that allows potentially anyone to get inside the building and steal. If you store anything that has some decent value, it may be a good idea to opt for a better location that offers higher security. cheers read more

Gloria has been fantastic everytime I have gone to the Kahala facility, helping with advice on lockmiths when I wanted duplicate keys, unsticking keys in the lock, etc.,. But she outdid herself this week when I got an email saying you hadn't received my check even though I had sent it in a week before. I went right over there and arrived just as she was pulling out of the driveway to go to lunch. She waited in the driveway as she saw me arrive, had me put my check in the drop-off box, and the next day when I called in, she confirmed everything was smooth. Yesterday I stopped by and was able to sign up for automatic payment from my bank in less than three minutes time, so this will never happen again. She's efficient, professional, friendly, and very helpful--everything a company could want in a customer service employee. A five star employee--*****!! read more
