The customer service was great and the facilities were clean/up to date. The low review is due to the fact that they brought me in under the introductory rate then within 6 months raised my rent from $110 to $240 and within a year they are raising it again to $280. They punish people for being loyal customers, raising costs and an insane rate knowing that most people will simply stay because it is inconvenient to have to move their stuff again. It's a real bummer because the staff here is great. It's just the location and the clientele has gotten really bad, forcing us to move our stuff. Some of the unsavory people who rent units must give their codes to other people who are constantly in and out of the building. On more than one occasion, I've had someone or a group of people linger at the gate, walk in and then try to get in the elevator with me. After our unit was broken into and I learned there were not cameras in the halls, I no longer felt safe going there alone. My rate nearly doubled after a few months from around $86 to $150 automatically. It's opt out of any increase so unless you successfully receive their communication and respond then you accept the increase. Thus I give them a 1 star for bad service and pricing. Bad service bc they claim they have to raise it bc of market rates. However, Uhaul charges $86 and maybe raises it once in a couple of years and much less than 30% to 80% increases that extra storage charges after 3 months. read more

Not even 4 months into my rental, I get a notice they are increasing my rate by over 23%. And I'm not alone in having this scam pulled (read the other reviews). They are most definitely pulling bait and switch tactics and blaming "market values", as though the market for a storage unit has changed that dramatically in 4 months. Another user stated their rate went up 87% after just 4-5 months. Hmmm, so the market goes up THAT much every month or two? They lure you in with a fair market price, let you get all settled into having your items stored there, then they'll hit you with the little card saying "market value" raising your rate. Calling tomorrow to cancel my unit and reporting them to BBB and the attorney general's office for these shady tactics, and obviously I'm not alone, given the other reviews saying the same thing happened to them. Had a very bad customer service experience with an employee on the day of posting. Was running some things in last minute, realized I had forgotten my keys so went down to grab them from my car only to find that the elevator closes 10 minutes prior to the facility closing (which I was never told and there is no signage about). When I asked the lady at the front desk for help and explained I had stuff left in the halls, she rudely said " your code won't work". I had to explain to her twice that there was things in the hallway before she rolled her eyes at me and agreed to let me get my things. When we went to the elevator there was another customer trying to get in and she again rudely told him "your code won't work, it's 10 minutes before closing" which he didn't know either. When he asked if he could get in before his flight she was very dismissive and rude, saying "nah ah, it's too late" when he asked again she literally threw her hand up and let out an annoyed noise before tell him to "just stand over there" before she let us in. I was planning on using this storage locker for 9 months but a now considering using a different facility because of how rude and unprofessional this lady was. read more

I've been renting a locker for a while and over the years the price keeps increasing from high $200 it has increased to over $600!! it seems they don't keep the place working the door on King street has been broken for a while I think they might have fixed it but they don't open it. Extra Space Storage at 1414 Kalakaua: Their staff is terrific, but their pricing policy is questionable. I have only been using the storage unit for 4 months, and already they are hiking the price by just under $100.00. That is more than a 50% increase. Total cost is going from 178.13 to 272.63. I guess it is time to lobby the government regarding this type of increase. Needless to say, this is only one review on the company out of numerous other reviews stating the same questionable business practice. We need to search for companies with community-centered values and ethics. I'll be switching. read more

Let's first start out by saying that Cliff was THE MOST helpful when trying to figure out what went wrong with my unit. He was professional, empathetic, and patient. 5 stars to that man. Pay attention when renting/reserving your unit! Check out the prices online and then RESERVE THE STORAGE UNIT. Someone will call you shortly, and then ask them specific questions about it. Don't -presume- you have the unit you selected. Ask if what you're going to get is what you reserved. I rented a 5x10 unit with the floor-level photo through the online service to store a bed, many heavy boxes, and some stand-up shelving. When I went to the facility the next day, I found that my 5x10 unit was actually a locker unit 10ft off the ground - 5ft tall, 5ft deep, and 10ft wide. Impossible to fit a bed through the locker door, and I'm definitely not going to be able to put a shelf up there...totally useless for me. Cliff and I never figured out where the mistake was made, but he was very helpful and patient in finding another unit that will serve my needs. He took the time to tour me through the available units and we landed on something that will work for me. =========================== Operating hours are OK, security is great....I would just love for the storage accessibility to be available just one hour later, but otherwise, I can't complain about the location and convenience. read more

The storage facility has improved, particularly in addressing the noise issue caused by an illegally operated noise machine meant to deter the vagrant population outside. While the facility is now cleaner, the persistent odor of urine outside, largely due to the way the area is treated by those camping there, still affects the overall experience. Though I do not blame the facility for the vagrant encampment, it does make the environment less inviting. The staff has become more helpful, but operating and cleanliness standards still fall short. read more

This place is the worst. There are people sleeping in the hallway. Also in there cars as well. It doesn't feel safe. People always asking, can you let me in upstairs? There was also a stabbing there as well, where police was called and was in the newspaper. There was always people smoking marijuana. The staff apparently does not do anything about the safety there. I had a locker on top of another storage. I needed a ladder with wheels to get to my locker. Sometimes, there were all being used and I had to wait for one. There is a small opening at the top of my storage style, but didn't think nobody can take stuff out. Was I wrong. They had taken some of my belongings from that opening. I would go to my storage maybe once, every couple of months. So I was shocked when I saw what happened. I filled out a theft report with a manager that was filling in for the regular store manager in charge. They said when the regular store manager returns from vacation, they would get back to me. But....they never did. They said I can call the police but, since I didn't know exactly when the incident happened , they don't have any video footage. Since I came once every couple of months, they only keep a week or two of footage, then erases it. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I left this place back in May of 2019. It's the best thing I ever did. To the people who rent there now, be careful. It's really sketchy! read more

My first experience has not been good with Extra Space. They deactivated my code because they didn't process my auto pay, NICE! The elevator and storage areas are pretty clean. Since my parents are of age, they are eligible for a senior discount. The discount wasn't applied when I made payment but didn't notice till I got home. I called and the guy who I spoke to said that he'll apply the discount for the 2nd month. We only used the storage space for one month, so we lucked out. There were multiple times that we went to the office, and no one was available to assist us. There's a fair amount of homeless and sketchy looking people around the building making it an uncomfortable environment. read more

If your looking for somewhere to keep your car, don't leave it here! Here are some reasons why... 1. Started using their facility in late November. The rate was $380, in January a letter was sent stating the price was going to go up to $403! 2. Found someone sleeping by my car, on 1 occasion. Notified the after hour office. 3. Ppl were leaving tools on the bed cover of my truck. Once again notified the office. 4. Last straw... someone stole ALL my stuff in the bed of my truck. Made a police report, and ask them if they could please review the security cameras they claim to have. The lady in there said she would call us regarding a reimbursement of the month... still waiting, but I'm not holding my breath. Lesson learned... should have checked the reviews before storing my truck there! I would have seen the homeless ppl issue! They are sleeping all over their facility, and no one does nothing!!
