Worst customer service!!! We went down one weekend to see and rent a storage unit. I called first and they said to come down, we're open until 4pm. So that weekend we went. No one answered the phone or intercom so we couldn't get in. The next Saturday, we went down again. Even loaded our car with boxes to store. Called and waited outside for about 45 minutes. Kaimuki Storage people even tried to help us locate someone on premises (they were great). So we stayed in Salt Lake another 2 hours, calling to see if someone was there, but no one ever answered. Today 7/19/25, the following Saturday, I called to see if someone was there. This lady, not a manager, answered and I asked (given our prior experience) if I could make an appointment to come today. She said, no, just come before 4pm. I said we tried before and wasted half our day. So I asked if we could set a time that she could be mindful that someone was coming. She refused and made excuses. She questioned that our experience even happened. I told her the Kaimuki people were trying to help last week, so they know about this. Her answer was, really? What's their names. I was furious by now. She acted like she was remaining calm and yes I was yelling by now, but her tone was condescending, cocky and arrogant from the start. I called her an @ss#ole and hung up. I tried calling Kaimuki to find out how to talk to her manager but it got transfered back to Salt Lake. She answered and said "this is the @ss#ole, take your business somewhere else!" read more

I got a storage locker last year, and ever since I owned the locker all of the cashier's were amazing. They were very fun to talk too and did business very easily and quickly. For the first time, I required the rental of a storage unit (temporarily, 1-2 months) upon checking into the managers office, we were welcomed by Angel. She was very helpful, even taking time to walk us to different storage unit to ensure we got the right unit. We decided a 10x10 would exceed our requirements, we all regrouped in the managers office to sign the agreement and settle the account in full. I paid $340.02 in full for one month rent of a 10x10. I had other storage units that I was going to check out prior to signing the agreement. However, Angel's customers service at this time was awesome so I signed right then. My moved date accordingly to my agreement is April 19, 2023. Due to a recent accident, I needed surgery and had to push my "move in" with my movers to the following week. This is where custom service went south with Angel and Hawaii Self Storage Salt Lake! Angel kept harassing me by calling me repeatedly said I need to pay for an administrative fee $25.00 plus tax and a service charges because I am not moving in on the agreed date. I told Angel I will call her when I am feeling a little better. to change my move in date. Angel, kept saying my credit card information is wrong even tho after many phone calls. I provided her the same card number that was charged on 4/16/2024. She said something is wrong it is not working. I told her I had 4 transactions to that card after my initial payment and my card is working fine. So it may be something with their system. Angel continued to call me. Even though I told her I would call her when my surgery was done. Since the constant phone harassment, I moved all my belongings out of Hawaii Self Storage Salt Lake and closed my rental agreement on May 10, 2024 and found a different storage company! I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Extra Space Storage located just down the road from Hawaii Self Storage Salt Lake assured they would not have continued to phone me given my situation especial because I was in communication with the management office. read more

Needed my things out for a job that day and because multiple name on account, would not let me access my stuff. This resulted in loss of a job. Sorry been a customer for about a year plus since COVID started these folks have been inattentive to the folks that have kept them going. The Air Conditioning has been broken for months. When question staff give no real answer and to when it will be fixed??? Been in and out each month with no fix insight. I have been told everything from Managment need to approve repair. Have been told parts have been ordered. Have been told parts are back order since March 2020. Going in this October is it repair my good are probably spoiled had some wine and other artifacts that need constant temperature control where is it??? We pay for service with no answers or end insight no discount whatsoever??? Too much to move to go to another floor which could break at any moment which will not be repaired, maybe spending all that money I pay to build NEW Dillingham facility? read more

This place is great and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Need a place to store some storage bins from my lanai while the building I'm in gets painted. Hawaii Self Storage had great rates if you reserve online and once the got my reservation the called the very next morning to tell me their hours so I could come in and get it set up! The one I originally reserved was little to small for what I had but they put me in a bigger unit and still gave a price like I reserved it online. I really wanted to get storage at this facility, but it was not to be. I was quoted a price that was higher than the competition, but still reasonable. But now that I think about it, I don't understand why anyone would rent storage here when they are not price competitive. For example: The "other place" gave me 50% off the first rent. They also quoted me a price that is fixed for the duration. With Hawaii Self Storage they wouldn't/couldn't match any aspect of pricing. No discount for first time, no matching of price at all. So let me ask you, if one place says $140 and the other quotes $175 or more, which one would you go to? In addition, the "special price" is only good for 6 months after which the price will go up but there is no definite price - just a few percent..... I learned a lot today. The storage they quoted me was $20-$30 higher than the competition but was no a/c and you had to climb a ladder to get to and it did not look great at all. The more costly room was OK, but would become more $ after 6 months. Contrast this with the competition.... 50% off the first month. A fixed price that is lower than the Hawaii Self Storage..... Better lighting and overall cleaner place. A no brainer to go elsewhere. ---- update !!! The other place lied about the fixed price and upped my rates after less than 6 months. Wow! The staff at Hawaii Self Storage in Pearl City is extremely friendly and helpful. When my aunt needed to move out of her apartment and put her things into storage, Liz helped us to arrange for the movers to pack out and move her items into storage (and she even gave us cookies!) We only had to cover the cost of the of the packing materials for the move. It was such a relief for us to have that service available. I appreciate how compassionately the staff there treated us. The facility is very clean and well maintained. We were moving out of our old apartment and needed somewhere to store our things because the new place we were going to move into was going to be temporary and would not fit all of our items. My friend recommended us to Hawaii Self Storage Kaimuki, but I was glad that they had one in the Salt Lake area because it was a closer for us. We didn't make an appointment or anything, I viewed pricing online but needed to see a visual of the actual unit. The staff in the front was very friendly and patient and asked us what we would be putting in there and made her suggestion. We went to view the unit and it was perfect, she asked if we wanted to see a smaller unit, but we were satisfied with the one she recommended. Moving in was smooth. Their hours worked for us, although they do have after hours if needed. They have carts available for you to use. We were always able to find parking. Our unit was towards the back, so we usually parked by the back elevator. I like that it is AC inside, so I didn't have to worry about our items being damaged. I felt though, the unit seemed a little dark. They have lights in the hallways, but when I was trying to look through my boxes towards the back of our unit, it was hard to see and had to bring it closer to the front or I just used my flashlight on my phone. We eventually found a new place, so we only ended up renting the storage unit for about 2 months. It was easy to cancel, we gave them more than a 30 day notice (30 day requirement). We ended up turning over our unit a couple days before the intended move out date, which was okay. They did the final check once we took all our things out and we didn't have to do anything else. Over all, they are a little on the pricier side, but we didn't mind it because it was a secured building, location was convenient, the staff was friendly, it was clean, it had AC, so I think it was worth it and I would recommend them. read more

After receiving notice from Quik Stor that they were closing within 30 days, I needed help fast. I called around and Hawaii Self Storage was my savior. I met with the manager and discussed storage needs and billing. I really appreciated the fact that did not charge me a ridiculous amount being that my situation was urgent. He actually gave me a discount. He arranged for the movers to pick up and deliver my items to my new locker so no worries there. The building is very secure and cool (AC). The only issue I have is the parking. There are limited stalls available so go in the morning. After 1 year, I had no need for my locker and so I ended my contract. The staff was very helpful with the closing procedure. If the need arises again, I will definitely store my items at Hawaii Self Storage. read more

Businesses need to make money to operate, I get that. Really I do. But when businesses are a little sneaky in the name of making money, it kinda upsets me a little. At the end of 2013, I found my apartment lease ending, my roommates parting ways, and my stuff, lots and lots of it with no place to be stored at my parents' house. I looked up storage units and Hawaii Self Storage on Auahi boasted a reasonable price for a 4x4x3 unit. Utilizing my stellar tetris skills, I packed my stuff into that little unit and felt satisfied knowing I got it all in there for less than $30 a month. Fast forward five months. I receive a notice in the mail stating that they are going to increase my monthly rate from $28 to $45. I was not a happy camper. I don't appreciate being suckered in because advertised prices are low and then less than 6 months later having the price jacked up on me. Granted the contract states that rates are subject to change, it just doesn't seem right to me that the change is within a few months. Needless to say, I'm pulling my stuff out of there, heaven forbid the price gets raised unexpectedly in like three months from now. read more

In addition, not only do they falsely advertise and send out inaccurate billing statements, they also overcharge. When you bring it to their attention they blame it on staffing issues. They also regularly raise their rates. To add insult to injury, their storage facility is infested with cockroache, and who knows what else? They need to professionally exterminate their facilities on a regular basis. Whats the point of climate controlled storage, if they also do not practice regular cleaning and extermination of pests? I have never rented a storage unit before in my life. I was always able to store my stuff at my parents house or under my Uncle's house. Now that my parents have downsized to a condo and I can't store nice things on the dirt under my Uncle's house, I was relegated to start searching for a storage unit for a couple of months before I move into my new place. I started by searching my favorite review site, YELP, for storage facilities. This included Public Storage, PODS, Hawai'i Self Storage, Diamond Head Self Storage, and Dillingham Self Storage. Then I went to the websites and compared prices. One of my things I was looking for was security, access, and climate-controlled units. Hawaii Self Storage, which is a locally, owned company has several locations. Based on availability and prices, I chose the Mapunapuna location because of its central location (I currently live in Kapolei and my new apartment is in Kakaako). The prices at the Mapunapuna location were more affordable than the Kaimuki one (bottom of Waialae) so I made a value call and figured I could do Mapunapuna for cheaper given that I do not intend to have the unit more than a few months. I called on a Saturday and asked if they had the unit I was looking for (5'x6'x8') at the quoted price online and they said they did and to come on by before the office closed at 5 p.m. When we got there, Pua, was very helpful in showing us the unit and explaining how the access works. This location has access from 5 a.m.-12 a.m. (19-hours a day) and has night staff. In addition, they have multiple cameras and a personal code which identifies each tenant and allows you to access only your floor. I like that the units are climate controlled, seem very safe, and for the price can't be beat. I only dock one star because the quoted rates I found are only good for six months, then will go up to the retail price after. read more

As of right now I only have issues with parking. It's covered but tight. Only one elevator on each end. Not as spacious as the one in Kaimuki. Hawaii Self Storage in Mapunapuna is a very convienient and valuable storage facility. The staff is one of the best there is. If you need help just ask and they are on it. It is a very large facility so at time it is like grand central station but, the staff is alway there to help. Long hours to access 5am to 12am. Secured facility, floors and locker areas. Local company that gives back to the community with College scholarships, donation to local sports and schools. They get but they give alot. read more

This place sucks. It may be the Mapunapuna location cause I have had a unit at Kapolei also. The service sucks. The workers are very cocky and not personable. They tried to raise my unit cost without giving me any notice. I went down to get it fixed. The guy helping me was very rude. He didn't believe me and when he pulled the contract. GONG! I was right. now they're saying I have to pay a %20 fee for not giving 30 day notice. Well see about that! I have found a unit at another place down the street that's twice the size for half the price of Hawaii Self Storage. Much better customer service and prices!
