The FIVE stars are NOT for Public Storage, but rather, the STAFF here at KAHALA. I'm not a fan of Public Storage Corporate, since they routinely raise rates, penalizing the very, very loyal customers who stay with them for decades. I understand supply and demand; however, if someone stays with you for decades, and you feel the need to raise rates during high season, then it would be nice if you also lowered them during low season. My company wanted to literally ditch Public Storage. If it were not for the location, and the EXTREMELY HELPFUL customer service from Manager GLORIA, and staff SHANNON, I would have left this storage facility. They were very helpful in scheduling, and during, my move in, to a smaller unit (thanks, again, corporate, for making life difficult). And thanks, but no, I didn't get the special deal either, since I was an "existing", albeit so very loyal, customer. Again, if not for the great staff and this location, I'm sure you would start losing business. I hope you reward your staff for helping you keep/grow your business. By the way, my mainland manager agrees with me. And people in my industry agree with me as well; I see them at this facility and know for a fact many have already left. To potential customers: the facility, including the restrooms, are VERY CLEAN and well maintained. I am always greeted on arrival, with eye contact at the very least, if they are with other customers. Security is also excellent. This facility deserves their 5 stars. read more

This facility is very clean and the office staff is very helpful and pleasant. My issues are with the deceptive business practices of the corporate office in Glendale, California. The first transgression was last year. I called Public Storages national number to reserve a unit. When I looked at their website, I discovered that I had not been told that their rental rates are less online. I then cancelled my reservation a few days later but was still required to pay the administrative fee of $25 and part of a months rent. Thinking that this was an oversight of the customer service representative and not company policy, I rented a unit at Public Storage this January at a special online rate. Just last week, six months later, I get a notice that my unit rent will be increased 20% on July 1 of this year. Other storage facilities have informed me that they have cheaper online rates and have only raised the rental fee once a year and no more than 5%. Those reading this review have to decide whether the exceptional staff at the facility and the cleanliness of the facility can overcome the deceptive business practices of Public Storages corporate offices. I will NEVER do business with Public Storage again. They are not to be trusted !! My two stars are only for the great office staff. read more

Tiffany at the Kahala Mall Public Storage assisted me personally with choosing a unit that met my needs, assisted me with how many boxes would be needed for my move and most importantly she is a genuinely nice person who wants to be of service. The Public Storage at Kahala is clean and the staff here is helpful and very professional. Yet because of the location, it is slightly more expansive than other PS facilities. If you happen to go there when there is a line, then it might take awhile since there is only one staff person. But overall I am very satisfied with the service and the facility. I moved my things back to Kahala Public Storage for the umpteenth time. Tiffany was always extremely helpful and I was sorry that she wasn't there any more. Gloria was there and she proved to be just as efficient as Tiffany and I was very comfortable with her. And Shannon is still there and extremely helpful as well. I've read some of the other reviews about people having issues with theft and I'm a bit concerned now. Having never had a problem with theft I wasn't concerned but given the fact that it was reported by several people I hope that Public Storage has done something about security camera and surveillance videos to address this. I will ask the staff the next time I am there about this. The staff there has always been very helpful and friendly and i am pleased with the convenience and location. read more

My storage unit got broken into just before the holiday season. When filing a police report, they said that this facility is poorly constructed and anyone willing to break into a locker could do so within seconds. After feeling violated, we tried speaking to the staff which was a huge turn off. All she said was "we are not responsible and we have to call the insurance company". We asked if they will go over the video feed in the storage area and she said we only have cameras by the elevators. I pay over $325 a month, they could at least install more security cameras. If you're renting there, please do not store anything valuable. Sorry but the reason why I'm writing a review, is I hear more and more break-in stories about this company. BEWARE... read more

I am moving into town and I need to downsize so naturally I took to Yelp to find a storage space. I was told to read all the reviews because so many storage units get ripped off. I heard that public storage was probably not the best place to go to but being that this location is closest to me I wanted to see what it was all about in person. I went down took a look and I knew immediately I would never want to store my stuff here. This place is not safe or secure. After reading other yelper reviews I have to agree this place has absolutely no security. If you rent storage here you should take your stuff out. read more

First off, the staff is 5 star, friendly, very helpful, especially Gloria. However, this location has only 3 carts which makes it seriously inconvenient. Imagine sitting around waiting for others to finish their moving...a few times we left rather than wait for a cart to come available. read more

I was helping a friend move out of the UH dorm and she asked me to pick up a half dozen boxes for packing. Public Storage across from Kahala Mall was on my way there so I stopped by and was pleasantly greeted by Gloria who came around the counter to assist me. I explained that I needed 5 medium boxes and 1 large box and she recommended that I buy the Combo Pack that included an assortment of small, medium and large boxes along with a roll of tape and bubble wrap for $29.99. I was sold! Gloria even put the boxes in my car! The amazing thing is my friend and I used ALL the boxes while moving and the small boxes, along with the bubble wrap, were great for all the bottles in the frig. SCAM! Signed up as new customer online for a 50% off deal because I had accessibility on a friends but wanted my own storage to put more stuff in while I was moving. Went in and Shannon was unhappy and really sarcastic. Still I decided to get the storage unit and when paying it was a bit more than I was quoted online. Just paid and got out because their customer service was horrible. Looked over my bill when I got home and I was not given the 50% off deal and yet I did have to pay a one time new customer fee (if I am a new customer why didn't they give me the deal I signed up for and why didn't Shannon notify me she was not going to award it to me...SCAM and trying to take my money.) Called them, Gloria answered and said because I had accessibility I was not a new customer (yet I had never signed up with them before and I had to pay the new customer fee...SCAM) Called customer service 3-4 times and all of them saying I should have got the discount if I had never signed up for a unit in my name before (as long as the persons unit I had access to didn't have the same last name and we didn't live together... which I didn't share the same last name and don't live with them. I guess they assumed we lived together without asking... SCAM) Called the district manager, Carol, and explained and she asked me all necessary questions and agreed that I should have gotten what I signed up for. Talking with Carol we found out that I was paying for a unit with a monthly rate of $116 when I signed up for a unit that was $156/month. So I wasn't even given the unit I signed up for... SCAM! I told Carol after that that I just wanted my money back and I will take my business elsewhere because her employees are always rude, unhelpful, and disrespectful. She told me that someone would call me about that tomorrow. No one called! So I called Carol asking why hasn't anyone notified me if I was getting refunded and she didn't have a reason to why her employees are incapable of doing their job. SCAM! They will try to take your money and not give you what you signed up for. read more
