This is a horrible place. We will definitely be leaving. We had three incidents there. On the first incident, we noticed a completely different lock was on our unit so of course we couldn't get in. They claimed they don't know what happened. Nothing was taken and it didn't look like anyone broke in, however, a completely different lock was on our unit. Who knows what happened, but I had to have them remove it and we had to buy another lock. After this, our unit was broken into twice and NO ONE notified us. On each break in incident we came to find a lock from Extra Space was put on so they clearly knew it was broken into. The guy told my daughter they had many break ins and she asked them why no one notified us and she got the typical response, " I don't know I wasn't here." Brought all my childhood toys and collectibles I had collected through the last 30+ years just to have it stolen. Then I moved units and got hit again! The only people that knew what I had were some of the employees. When I lost over $25K, they didn't give a sh*t. This place is beyond horrible. Today I moved out, I called them on the phone to cancel and I told them I had 3 bin covers left in my unit because I couldn't locate the trash, lady told me I had to come down to throw it away myself. You'd think they would at least do that! Then when I get there, the gentleman says, you could have called us and we would have thrown away. So frustrating, has anyone everyone moved somewhere with your entire childhood and left with nothing? I do not recommend to anyone. You think Corporate would have given me a few months free or something, but all I got was sorry to hear that. It's all to sketchy that only my unit got hit. It seemed as if it was an inside job. I had a great experience with this location. My move from Phoenix to the Bay Area was sudden and uncertain. They worked with me on prices and what size would be best for me. The location was always clean. Never messy or dirty. My unit was cool and clean as well. I did not experience any break-ins or infestations. They always communicated with me properly and the customer service was fantastic. My one suggestion was the parameters taken during Covid 19 were only for the office and not for common things like the lifts and the keypads to get in. Other than that. Horrible just horrible. I don't doubt the security and place is clean but make sure you read your contract because this shits a scam. Was told i was gonna pay 67$ a month then i ended up paying 123$. Was told if i decided to canceled they would prorate my service and ended up paying for a whole month for going over one day past my due date. Never getting a storage here again. read more

Do not get a storage unit here unless you want your stuff stolen. They had a series of break-ins from November to now and over $5000 of my items were stolen of which the insurance will only cover $2000. The thieves are other customers who have access to the gate codes and door locks. The insurance is a joke because they want receipts for everything and calculate depreciation on your items. It's not like I'm going to pay a depreciated price when I replace all the stuff that was stolen. They only do a visual check of your unit locks so they actually don't know when my stuff was stolen because the thieves were smart enough to break the lock in such a way that they could hang it and you would only know if was broken and unlocked if you touched it. read more

We'd booked this place based on the 4.8 stars they somehow have on Google Maps. I'm sitting in front of our unit right now and ashamed we decided to store our values possessions here. We are here moving our stuff in right now, and not thrilled about leaving our nice furniture in a storage facility covered in rat traps with homeless people living in the outdoor units. See below for note to the building manager: Woof, we have had a difficult end to our day of moving. To start, it was quite hard to find the staircase to get to our second floor unit as people are not allowed to ride in the elevator. There is also a homeless man living in a unit in building E. There are rat traps all over the place. All of this certainly did not make us feel like our belongings would be clean and safe. Now, the elevator to the second floor has stopped working. No one from Extra Space is picking up the phone to help us troubleshoot it. If we had more time, we would have canceled our lease here and moved our things to a cleaner, more secure facility but unfortunately we are moving and today is the last day we have to take care of everything before we fly out. I'm truly disappointed by all of this and will be worried about whether bugs and rats will find their way to our furniture while we store it here. I can see now why they make such a big deal out of requiring insurance, and truly confused as to how this place has a 4.8 rating. Spend more money per month and look elsewhere for a storage facility. Update: 30 minutes into our move and both elevators in our building are broken. No one from Extra Space is picking up the phone. What should have taken 45-60 minutes is now over 3 hours because we're carrying every item up a flight of stairs. read more

I would not recommend this establishment at all. I'm handicapped and live 3 hours away in Citrus Heights California. I have been a customer for over two years and never missed a payment, I recently was hospitalized for awhile and I fell behind on my bill. I tried calling there customer service chat line and they told me a district manager would call me. They never did. They closed my account and are going to sell my unit. Do not store your items here! Our unit was broken into 3-4 weeks ago. They drilled through our lock and took our items! No cameras and manger said several units had been broken into recently. They are not telling their customers. The manager said someone walks through daily yet our lock had been drilled off, unit left with no lock, then he said he saw a combo lock on and off of our unit! After less than a week, I am unable to give anything other than a "middle of the road" rating. I can say that the facility is clean and secure, and that the people in the front office seem pleasant. I can also say that, after I spent time gathering information in person in order to determine if the facility would meet the needs of the given situation, I found that staff was lacking; I had to ask the same basic question twice, and no one told me something important after my explanation of the situation. Although I'm not impressed yet, it's also hard to find good help, so I find that I must correct a problem that should not have developed, however, it's a "two-way street" issue that doesn't rest solely with staff. read more

The only reason for 2 stars is that I didn't have my stuff stolen...yet. The check in and set up process was quick and painless. Got my lock and moved in within an hour of reserving online just by walking in to the office. But once I came in for a day to actually move some small amount of stuff in - and get a feel for the place - I quickly realized maybe I should've taken more time to get to know the place. First of all, they EXPLICITLY SAY not to LET ANYONE TAILGATE YOU at the gate. Yet EVERY time I've come - it's been about 5 times and I just moved in - someone comes out of thin air and is behind me. And one guy almost ran me down because I slowly went through the gate and tried not to let him tailgate me. IN FRONT OF A STAFF MEMBER - the other tenant straight went AROUND MY CAR at the gate and almost ran into me. When you go into the gate and put in YOUR code, it is attached to YOUR name. So this bastard behind me basically cut in front of me to go in under MY name and the STAFF MEMBER didn't even go talk to him about it. And on top of that, the bastard almost hit my car. So I decided to go near where he was parked and watch him. And remind him that it isn't cool to run someone down. You're supposed to wait until the gate closes and put in YOUR code. He acted like he didn't know english. And I watched them go in and out like they were doing something shady...guess they're running their business and putting in supplies and changing clothes. But this seemed kinda shady. And there are a lot of people like that renting at this place. There are some who walk in and are probably living or keeping their stuff there but they're homeless. That's not a problem, in fact I pray they get on their feet and find shelter. But it's the ones pretending to have businesses and who tailgate, and who cut in line and who want to get in without putting in the code - the office staff just lets it happen and they don't go after them. Thus...break ins. I just moved in this month and already I'm moving out. Because, if folks can blatantly break the FIRST REAL RULE on the list and no one says anything - no matter how many cameras - the lackadaisical response from the staff implies that they may even be allowing or even participating in trying to break rules, or even in the stealing. I am looking for a place that REALLY takes the security seriously. I'm not waiting until I actually have a break in. But it's too bad for those who TRUST this place not realizing how many folks get in without using THEIR codes - so no one can track them. Then - even after the tailgating - THERES A SECOND GATE on the Carlos Bee side. So the tailgaters can slip in using your code that you entered in according to the rules....go in, cause some problem, steal something....and then go out the other gate without being seen by anyone and the staff isn't near that gate. Its just their video, and they clearly arent using it to keep track of folks. Then, you are the last code entered into the gate, someone just got robbed...who could possibly be suspect? You. It may even be an inside thing. Trust no one here. I don't. So I'm moving out. Be safe and be aware. read more

I bought the unit back in November and in January couple days before my birthday my unit was broken into. This was the first time I ever bought a unit and has no idea that break ins are more often than expected. The customer service was a 10/10 for me from Darren. He was so helpful when I learned my unit got broken into and just relayed any info he could in order for me to file my police report. I thankfully had insurance on the unit. After the break in though I just couldn't feel comfortable leaving my things there anymore and ended up moving my stuff out and closing my unit. I only rate it three stars because they need more security cameras around the place for more footage of the thieves who go and break into peoples units. The entire staff though definitely get 5 stars. All of them were so kind and so helpful. read more

I did go through the process with renting but the next day (still hadn't stored anything) I called and cancelled. Process - Fairly easy. It took a bit long. Guy who was working there was nice and courteous and had no problem with him. Very busy as people were in and out during the 30 or so minutes I was in the office. Office had two large TV screens showing camera images of the facility. Costs: Insurance is $14, Admin Fee, taxes and paying for their lock which is supposed to be modern and all but how do they keep getting break ins?? I got a month free too! Of course when I called the next day I could not get a refund so too bad. Unit: My small dark unit turned out to be one all the way in the back and up some stairs. It smelled a bit stale and ... dirty?? It was just strange. Why I didn't stay? Reviews on here had me concerned. I also saw the "Manager" or whoever on the cameras (was pointed out she was the manager on site) walking around in her plaid pajamas, hoodie, carrying her dog and looking sloppy. (It was approx 10:30am) After thinking on it overnight, I decided this wasn't the place for me. Professionalism is something I look for in places especially since I'm entrusting my personal items to this person but I didn't see that. I also was a bit concerned on why they needed to know what I'm storing. Like just tell me - no hazardous items, food and whatever but I don't think they need an itemized list of what I need to store. It just further cemented that what if the past break ins were inside jobs as a previous reviewer said?? I don't know. I ended up going with another facility that was more quiet, had insurance included with listed price ($10 per month for same $2000 coverage) and the manager I met was nice and awake at 9am. I felt my items would be more secure there and it had a much better rating and reviews than Extra Space. I didn't trust them. read more

Accused us of not having the right lock (we used the one they had given us), said that we needed the police to obtain video footage, and basically told us to go away. Little that the police were able to do, and the storage company said "oh the footage didn't have anything. There is a reason this place is the cheapest out there. I have been robbed multiple times and their security cameras don't produce good enough videos so the police can take action. Their company policy is not to call the police and let the customer call which costs valuable time. They have also let homeless live inside buildings -- I had to complain about urine smell recently. I can not even sue in civil court since extraspace won't show me the videos. Their management does not understand the difference between civil and criminal -- I have talked to their corporate and district manager for the bay area. read more

Stored here for one month and let the front office know several times it would be for 1 month only. Moved out a few days before my move out date and was told to simply leave the unit clean, door open and I would be moved out. I was not moved out and charged and additional month. I called in and spoke with a store manager. He refunded the charge and assured me that I was moved out. Today I was charged again for another month, and had to call back again!
