Shady company, i needed to downsize from a $500 unit and public storage has pushed me aside again and again. So I opened a new smaller unit and closed up the larger one. I was trying to get se things out I didn't want to keep and I was speaking with multiple staff (none return ur call and all of them don't know how much). I was quoted $100 for move out fees then $250 by two other people (ann at this location was one of them). I moved my things so I find to we the fee and public storage still billed me an extra $100 fee for moving out. U guys are shady to your customers and your prices are theft worthy. They were asking me to keep my unit and they'd charge me $120 less a month. Seriously I'm paying $500 but your willing to charge less but not give me a smaller unit. Beware of this place and esp Public Storage!! We all know storage places are greedy corporations who always get you in with a low price then jack up the rent on you... However THIS PLACE has hit a new low. In less than a year they more than doubled my rent! Raised my rates 2x (they tried for 3 but I asked for a break so they gave me a little reprieve but then doubled it later) I am now paying $534 per month when I was in the $200 range to begin. They even said that this rate was higher than most of this size but they "couldn't do anything about it." Shame on them! Shame on them for continually baiting and switching, taking advantage of you, knowing how hard it is to find time, money and people to help you move your stuff if you don't want to pay exorbitant prices! On top of all this, I've seen people cutting off locks, and random just walking through the area...and the office person although very nice is often not there during business hours. So therefore in the beginning couple of months, I had to even pay more by paying for insurance that I didn't need. That's another way that they get you... Forcing you to pay for their insurance, and forcing you to only be able to cancel that if you have your own insurance with your home insurance (which I do), by going in and doing it in person... knowing that there isn't somebody always there and so you're just at the mercy of hoping that they are physically there. Absolutely ridiculous that you can't just cancel this online. I will never in my life use Public Storage again, I wish everybody would do the same, or I wish somebody would do something about this conundrum ... read more

Do Not Store Anything Of Value at Public Storage, Or It will Get Stolen! This is An Open Letter to Public Storage on Grove and the Castro Valley/Hayward Area Sometime between Monday Feb 28th and Wednesday March 9th, everything of value was stolen from my locked and allegedly "secure" storage space at the Public Storage facility at 2445 Grove in Castro Valley. The manager Kevin called me to report that my storage unit was "unsecured" and that he had placed a new lock on the unit. When I arrived, Kevin pretended to be shocked and surprised when we opened my clearly ransacked storage unit. It was a disarray of empty boxes and broken glass. How could he be shocked? As I try to compile a list of the stolen items, I realize it's impossible to remember everything I've kept for the last 30 years of my life. I lost family heirlooms and items commemorating the armed forces service of my Father as well as my own. The thieves took a file cabinet of personal financial information including college transcripts, credit card statements, and other sensitive financial information. They took everything that mattered. I have repeatedly asked for a review of the front gate video to potentially identify suspicious behavior and report it to police. I have been told that "there wasn't anything to see" but I haven't been allowed to look for myself. I have asked what is being done to improve security. No response. It is clear that management does not care about security at their facility. Is this the way Public Storage treats all their customers who have been robbed? The lack of communication and the egregious lack of accountability is a slap in the face after being a customer for the past three years. I am embarrassed that I believed their signs on their front gate that read, "Rest assured, you're at the right place" and "Just so you know, This property is protected by 24 hours video surveillance." Worst storage place to rent from. Bad location with tweakers around and ppl waiting to cut ur lock n steal your stuff. Been going on for over 2yrs now and ppl continue to say the samething and nothing is done to stop the stealing of stuff in units at this location. Save yourself and your stuff the headache at this location. Your unit will be broken into. Corporate or someone needs to take action this is way to many ppl stuff stolen and units broken into - if I didn't know any better I would say it's the workers at this point. I thought Public Storage was trustworthy when I stored my possessions with them for years. I also thought I had insurance. This turned out to be false. Apparently, the company had a system glitch several years ago that dropped the insurance for some of their customers without their knowledge. I didn't know about this glitch until my belongings were destroyed by rodents. I filed a claim right away, and I was surprised how long it took to get a response back (a week). Then I found out that Public Storage wouldn't cover the damage because I was one of those customers who lost their insurance. I will never store my belongings with Public Storage again and I would advise you to avoid them as well. If you're considering using Public Storage, make sure you get your own insurance. If you don't, and something happens to your belongings, you may be out of luck. Public Storage may not cover the damage, even if you think you've got insurance. read more

My Unit was just broken into sep 4 2024 just 5 days after leaving all my belongings there I was called sep 5th at 5:30 pm a day and a half later and locked out of unit, also Tracy left my bed outside unit but claims she's unaware it was there but they supposedly did their rounds to secure property every night and morning and when I was called I was never asked if the bed was mines or for a description they just left it in hall way , I had no way to put it back in unit due to being locked out . I was ignored and dismissed when asking questions and when I tried to reach out I was not called back. PLEASE TAKE YOUR BELONGINGS SOMEWHERE ELSE !!! This has to be an inside job involving manager Tracy. They don't do there rounds there but claim they do so your units are not secured. There is no cameras where they would actually catch something only on side of building in back and at gate but those are even blurry and low quality. Also alameda county sheriff's confirmed that public storage at 2445 grove way Castro valley is not to be trusted they go out there too often to make police reports and management won't help secure premises, no improvements what so ever have been made. read more

Do not store your stuff as it is not secure or safe. There are no cameras inside the building so thieves can cut your locks off and take whatever they want, which happens ALL THE TIME! We had our stuff stolen this way and the response was "too bad, so sad, call your insurance". And it has just happened again, just 2 months later! I live out of state so it is challenging for me to to go move my stuff to another place. DO NOT USE THIS STORAGE FACILITY! While they acknowledge there is a problem, they continue to do business, knowing that a significant number of their renters will get ripped off. They just don't care. read more

The old lady owner calls me almost a WEEK from when I moved out asking for payment. The lock and key were kept in the storage. NO ONE contacted me after I scheduled my move-out and scheduled a confirmation until a week later. The number listed for the move-out goes straight to voicemail and no one has returned my calls. Now they're asking me to pay since there is a lock on the door. Please do yourself a favor and do not use this facility. This is a poorly run business. Update: I was contacted by HQ regarding the above issue. They said that I should have been contacted within 2 days and promptly resolved the issue (beyond my expectations) by refunding me for not only the week I was overcharged, but for the entire month. I wish I didn't have to go through this debacle at all, but I appreciate this resolution. I am still a Public Storage customer, but at a different location. read more

This place has good rates, but zero customer service. Nobody in the office during the day, voicemails left for the property manager were unreturned, customer service could not answer any questions. The only humans who will talk to you in a timely fashion are the sales agents. Not worth the hassle. read more

someone tried to break into my storage and now my keys do not work when i tried to go into the office there are no workers so i called the number im there and they said i had to wait 72 hours to get in open i told them i need it today and the told me to hire a locksmith to come open it other then that there's nothing they can do read more

These 4-5 star ratings must be new to this storage location. I've had storages in both locations in CV on Grove Way. They share management team and it's ran by and older lady named Darcy. At first she was so sweet and kind. Even asks for a good review when you first meet her. The light in our hallway hasnt worked for years I keep bringing up to her and she acts as if I'm lying that it works and I need to wait for the sensors. Just recently we were behind a month due to Covid and my husband working less hours we were playing catch up with all their bs fees and liens every week it tacks on! Well we caught up and went to check on our storage it's still locked even though we paid last week. Once we opened it our stuff had been so ranscacked we couldn't even go walk in and turn the light on. They broke my moms crystal China opened all the bags her cultural mats were in worth thousands of dollars and tossed around like trash! My husbands tools that were placed neatly in the corner tossed all over the place! Time to find a new storage location stay far away from both public storage units on Grove Way! read more

Not a good experience at all. I bought some boxes preparing for a move, but only 5 of the 10 large were put in my car when they helped me load it up. I called when I realized I was short 5 boxes, only to be told their inventory says I got all of the boxes. There was no effort to resolve the issue or make up the gap of the 5 missing boxes for me. Poor customer service choice. They lost a customer over $19.30. I'm sure it costs a lot more than that to acquire a customer, especially one who may return to buy more or tell family/friends where to go if they need moving supplies. Be sure to count your boxes before leaving if you buy anything from this location. Even better, DON'T BUY BOXES from Public Storage at all. Because of this bad experience, I went to a U-Haul Moving & Storage location (6265 Scarlett Court, Dublin) and got more boxes for a FRACTION of the cost of Public Storage! So not only is Public Storage's customer service non-existent, they rip customers off with their overpriced moving boxes. read more

My unit got broken into and a lot of my things were stolen and I got no answers from the management and apparently they're not responsible for missing property or units getting broken into. They did not have proper functioning cameras, just so conveniently happens during the time of when my storage got robbed! All these reviews on Darcy seem to be a different Darcy from the one that has been assisting me since I have purchased my storage unit with this company! I recommend if you're needing a storage unit look else where this is not the place to keep your belongings especially if you want to one day return to find it still in the exact unit and condition you left it in, in which you pay top dollars for! read more

These guys are awful- 1. You can't pay with their website unless you buy a windows computer. According to their support line they only support Internet Explorer and lock all other browsers out. 2. You can not pay over the phone without being charged an additional $20, even though their website is broken. 3. The physical location isn't allowed to help resolve this problem, as the corporate support policies prevent them from doing anything useful. 4. They store passwords in plaintext- the agent on the phone new what it was, meaning all of their customer support have access to the credentials. If you're the type of person to reuse passwords then your credentials are in the hands of a bunch of support reps who don't really seem to care about their jobs all that much. Their support is awful, their website is broken, and they really just don't care about customer support. It turns out this company is just trying to extract as much money out of you as possible, which is why it's better for them to leave their website as broken to force you to call and pay the extra $20 fee. They rely on the fact that it's difficult to move to lock you into their horrible service. The only saving grace is that Darcy, who runs this location, really cares about customer service. If they would fire their head of customer service and put her in charge there probably wouldn't be any issues. However, corporate support is so amazingly awful and their policies tie Darcy's hands, making this company one I would avoid. Maybe one of the other storage companies in the area will steal her up. read more

Darcy is by far the only person that I am happy to hear from every time I need to pay up. (I get busy a lot and lose track of things I need to do, but she's a lifesaver with reminders and is never irritated at having to chase me down.) She is extremely professional, knowledgable, and helpful with a pleasant and friendly attitude. I don't think we have ended a single conversation without a smile on my face, regardless of my initial mood. The grounds are always neat and clean. How often does a business try to save you money? Darcy showed me how much I could save on my unit if I moved things out before the deadline. Since we were renting a large space, 8x14 or so, I saved about $200 by following her advice. And since the office was open on Saturday, it was super convenient.
