I moved my belongings into this storage facility in September 2025 after closing my business of 10 years. That alone was devastating. I chose this location because the online rate was $184 -- already a stretch for me while working two jobs and trying to stabilize financially. In January 2026, with almost no notice, they increased my rent by $92 -- bringing it to $276. There was no limited promotion disclosed, no explanation, and no issue with my account. I've paid on time every month. Because of this sudden increase, I now cannot afford the unit and will likely have to sell everything I placed there -- items I stored during one of the hardest transitions of my life. After I left a 1-star review, they offered a $23 "discount" for only three months. That does not fix the issue. It feels insulting. If you rent here, understand that your rate can increase significantly at any time, regardless of payment history. If you need stability or are already financially stretched, reconsider before signing. What they did was opportunistic and incredibly disappointing. read more

I normally don't do reviews, but this is my first time getting a storage. My storage room is on the second floor which you need a code to use the elevator to get to the second floor. It has a lock that is in the door(bezel I believe) and is not able to be cut off, so I thought I was safe but I was not. I went to check my storage room last night and the door was pushed so that the lock was off the track and my door was forced open. All of my stuff was thrown around and I have yet to determine what all is missing. Everything was neatly placed prior to last night. All I noticed so far is that a box of my shoes is missing. I was very disappointed by this as what's in this storage is all I have to my name, and I thought my personal things would be safe. The worst part is I asked if there had been any other break ins and I was informed that there were none. So not only was my stuff only in this storage for only 5 months, it was apparently the only storage unit that was broken into. Which is too much of a coincidence. Had to give everyone an honest review, make sure you're checking your storages regularly. Make sure the place where you are keeping your belongings is actually checking to make sure doors are properly locked and they're securing your belongings to the best of their ability. No one is ever at the front for service. If you plan on coming in when they're open plan on not seeing someone at the front desk no matter what time of the day. Plus they keep the push carts locked up so if you need to use it well you're SOL because there will be no one to unlock them. I signed up online for my storage room, got a text saying it was ready, get here, and i cannot get into it. I think, no big deal the property manager surely has to be here but i have called so far 4 times and left messages, i also tried to chat online with someone. No dice. I have made 5 trips up and down to the room and now it looks like i have to bring everything back down. Huge waste of time, energy, gas, and as a result, it looks like i have tk get a hotel room for the night. Recently move my stuff out of this storage facility after about 6 months. My experience with the facility was a positive one. Let me go down my list. STAFF: Liz, the site manager was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. I could call her up and ask questions anytime. She never made me feel like a bother. Facility: nice, clean, seems new and safe. Only problem was that my unit had no lights. Do not get a unit without lights! I had a hard time looking for things and movers had a hard time seeing what's inside. That said, I didn't take off stars because the facility did attempt to fix it. Unfortunately, I was overseas when they tried to contact me to get into the unit. Another thing that bugged me about the facility was a door that would not stay open. We had a climate controlled unit and going in and out became a pain. FYI: $1 for the first month's rent is NOT a promo that runs continuously, even though the sign is out front. -they have rolling carts you can borrow, they do not have staff to help carry objects -they sell boxes, mattress covers, tv/frame/mirror boxes for sale. Any box you don't use they'll buy back. -check online first, they may have offers not offered on site. YES, I would use this facility again. read more

I have been shopping around for different storage units. This particular public storage has consistently been good to me. They are informational, answered any questions as best as they can, and gave us good tips. Their location is clean, organized, with no weird odors in the office space. Lots of moving materials ready and available. Also, apparently you can return any clean unused materials, like if you buy a bunch of boxes but only use a few, you can return the rest! Very nice, if that was true (I haven't had to return anything so I haven't experienced the returning process). Liz was especially helpful, unlike other places, she had initiative with delivering information and showed us different types of units without making us feel like we are a burden to her. Gave good tips. (Good to know about carts that are available for use for free.) Great customer service, clear communication skills, and she has a fun personality. Easy to get along with! read more

Do not use this place! My daughter and son in law have had their unit broken into two times already! They originally had two units. They removed things of value and downsized to one unit. Now with the second break in, things of sentimental value, and other expensive items were taken. Their wedding album and marriage certificate! Video game consoles were taken and other things they are not even sure of. All boxes were opened up with a box cutter! The clencher here is that they were able the break off the lock mechanism with out even breaking the lock. It is obvious that they were in the unit for some time. WHERE IS THE SECURITY OF THIS PLACE???? My children pay rent to you! Secure the place!!! Now for the reporting part of it. The woman at the desk said she couldn't do anything because it was the manager's day off. What?????? They demanded he be called to have someone come and fix THEIR BUSINESSES MECHANISM! He eventually came, and gave them attitude the entire time he was fixing it! Guess what he asked them? "Are you going to leave your things here, or take them somewhere else"? Not because he was worried about it. He was being sarcastic. Great customer service pal!!! I wonder if Public Storages bosses know you promote their business this way! We were one of the victims of break-ins in this storage facility last January 22, 2022. They called us that afternoon telling us that our unit was broken-in.  When I arrived there, there were two women staff  and one of them was already busy changing the door locks of the neighboring burglarized units. They were able to pry the doors without even opening the locks! They wanted to change my broken/destroyed locking system too but I refused. I told them that since they told us that there were no cameras in the hallways, there's no way to see who the burglars were! So I wanted to involved the police!  The police came and so I requested a fingerprinting to be done but they informed the police that they already did door cleanings after the incident. What???  That's ridiculous!!!  Why would they call us after doing the door cleaning? The police did photographs  and report and said that he would review the camera footages.  After the police left, they insisted to put a replacement door lock set but they put a different one which is supposed to be for roll-up doors.  Because it was late in the afternoon I told them that they should find a locking system which is the same as the other units. I accepted them putting a replacement locking system hoping that that's just temporary. I went back the next day and another worker told me that they will not replace the locking system because she said that that kind of lock is no longer being used. Come on now!!!  Out of thousands of Public Storage in the US, they can't find the right replacement and insisted that the part they installed was the right one eventhough it's obvious that it's different from the rest of the neighboring units. I told them, the way the replacement locking system is designed is more prone to break-ins but they said they can't do anything about it. They said that the only option is to give me the same unit on the third floor.  When we went to check the unit on the third floor, the one they're giving me has a locking system that has a hole on top of it! Yes the manager that day was giving me a unit with a hole right at the locking system! What kind of business is this that gives a violated customer a worst option? These "managers" as they call themselves don't know what they're doing and don't know how to treat victims of theft in their facility! Each time I go there, there's a different woman at the counter telling me that she's the manager. What? Are they paying different manager each day? That day, I left ans looked for a new storage facility. When I went home, I told my wife to call them and tell them that we will end our contract. My wife received a call back from a "very very nice sounding" woman telling my wife that they will replace the lock! Nope! You don't deserve our business! When we moved to this facility, we saw lots of cameras all over the place which to this day are gone! They put a lot of cameras next to the carts they are lending so no one could take them! That's what they're watching! If you want to be the next victims of break-ins, followed by wrong post break-in procedures, this Public Storage located at 2525 Whipple Road, Hayward, CA is for you! I will never ever put any of my stuff in their facility again and will tell my friends and everyone about this horrible experience! Don't buy their insurance too! That's part of their money making scheme which doesn't mean anything! If I can give them O star I will!!! read more

OK, I finally managed to visit during hours they were open. Still a bit peeved that service companies like this don't realize most of there customers work, and in the bay area that usually means 10+ hours / day. I got a tour of the place, and was impress with how clean it was. I was a bit disturbed that I was forced to buy a new lock, but once I saw how the lock they recommend is much more secure, I can accept it. Then came the insurance. For some reason California forces you to have an insurance policy for the contents. Big brother once again looking out for us. If I had anything valuable in the unit, I would insure it! If I didn't, my fault! (sigh). Once again had to sign documents adding $11/mos. I upgraded to four stars because all the above is either forced on them or reasonable. They lost a star for one thing; you cannot use the carts after business hours! That is VERY inconvenient. I'm sure they could have come up with some system to make sure people don't steal them. Instead, the only hours I can come here (did I mention I work for a living) is after they are closed, and I have to carry everything. Oh, and last thing. Of course the unit I rented does not allow the $1 first month deal. The fine print says that deal is only for certain units :( read more

These folks are total crooks. They will lure you in with a good rate (not the $1) but after you've moved your stuff into their facilities and you're out of state or in the hospital (long term care) which they knew because I told them. They send the following notice There is a Rate Change on your storage space In keeping up with our high standards of location storage, it's occasionally necessary to make adjustments to our rates. You can rest assured that our commitment to quality customer service has never been stronger. The rate went up over $30 a month and I am already paying over $120. Do not trust them. Pros: Nadine the "floating" manager was very pleasant and professional at her job. She was very knowledgeable about the facility and was easy to talk to. She didn't mind walking and showing me the size differences between the units. Cons: once you hit the third flood units, it gets pretty warm. I vacated my unit and they asked if i could leave a review. Over all, this site was good and clean. Pros: the staff are friendly and accommodating (Liz and Tina). The site is always clean when I'm there. They inform you with everything you need to know so there are no surprises. Con: the unit available when we signed up was on the third floor. which meant we had to use an elevator. It wasn't too much of a hassle until the elevator near our unit was not working for over 2days. I was clearing out my unit in 4 days, 3 days I had to use an elevator on the opposite side of my unit..ugh! (there are only 2 elevators for a large 3 story building). there was only ONE elevator working. So if another customer(s) is using the elevator you would have to wait till its free. It was sooo inconvenient. That's the main reason I didn't give the full 5 stars. Liz and Tina were extremely accommodating the day I vacated my unit. I didn't clear out exactly the time of close but they were lenient. I understand they didn't have to do that. They did explain to me the procedure. But because they waited longer than I said I would be done we got stuck on site (my code no longer worked for the gate after closing account). They did warn me about that. What sucks is that when we were at the gate honking to help us get out, we saw them pull out the parking lot. It wasn't the end of the world...we eventually got out. Don't know if they didn't hear us honking or they thought forget it they took too long ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I didn't ask if either one if the ladies were management... If so...I would knock my rating on to 3 stars. read more

My husband works out in the Bay Area in construction management and having his tools and work essentials easily accessible through access to storage is a MUST! Our payment was a couple days late but, I made sure to take care of it today at 12pm so he could access his unit tonight. Unfortunately he arrived at 6:05pm and saw the employee drive off while he was actively trying to get gate open. I have called every number imaginable to public storage and there is no way to get in touch with anyone to let him in. Worst possible customer service. I'm in the process of moving from Ohio to the Bay Area, I needed some help finding my way around to meet with my sister & so I stopped. I was greeted by Liz & immediately felt welcomed as apart of the community! The service was so nice & comforting. I explained to Liz about my moving situation and how moving across country left little room for our urban life furniture and junk. I went in to check out a unit and too spoke with Lizbeth who truly knows her stuff about storing stuff from box sizes, packaging material, tape etc. The only bummer is the $1 a day wasn't applicable to the unit I was looking at and I had a $25 processing fee which made me leery of other fees that might pop up. It actually was more like getting 50% off the first month after you add that and the lock you have to purchase for $19 and then I read something about $11 more each month for insurance. However, if it's important enough to keep in storage...well. Anyway, I just wish companies would be upfront about the costs. Not disclosing is a way to keep you in to the POS, but not always the case. We all shop around, but some would rather pay a little more for a secure and reputable place. You get to keep the lock if you can find another place to use it if need be!!! That's a plus!!! lol Ok nuff said. read more

I have been researching for a safe and reliable storage units around Hayward area. Finally, I decided to choose this location for convenience and easy accessibility. So I made an online reservation yesterday and to my surprise, as soon as I clicked to "confirm" my transaction- the Public Storage manager at 2525 Whipple Rd, Hayward called me right away to assist with me with any questions I may have. I made an appointment to assess for myself the storage unit today at 1130. Liz approached me with a great smile and very welcoming rapport. She gave me a tour, explained every detail of the charges and even offered other options that would be more benificial to my needs.
