I'm extremely disappointed in the ongoing rate manipulation and lack of transparency at Extra Space Storage. When we moved into our unit in January 2024, we were paying $70.60. Just four months later, our rate was increased to $124.60. Then, in January 2025, we received yet another massive increase to $249.20--more than triple our original rate within a single year. I expressed my concerns in a review at the time, and the manager, Kristina, reached out and offered a different unit on a higher floor for $89.60. While the move was inconvenient, we accepted in good faith and I removed my negative review, believing the issue had been fairly addressed. Now, just three months later in April, our rate has already been raised again--this time to $162.60. I called on 4/14 and was told I'd hear back within 48 hours. I never received a follow-up. When I called again on 4/18, I was told the best available rate was $136.60. This is an unacceptable business practice. If a rate increase was already anticipated, it should have been disclosed at the time we agreed to move units. Instead, we were led to believe we'd secured a more stable rate, only to be hit with another steep increase almost immediately. It feels predatory and deeply lacking in transparency. We're now stuck deciding whether to move yet again in the near future--something that is stressful, inconvenient, and frankly unfair to be dealing with so soon after our last move. I would strongly caution others to think twice before storing anything here, unless you're prepared for frequent, unannounced rate hikes and minimal communication. read more

The entire property is clean, well-maintained, and secure, with easy access and plenty of lighting. 1. Your billing rate will change and they will send mail to inform you of this. 2. My unit was burglarized - the lock mechanisms/door jams are cheap and easily bent with a crow bar, rendering any lock useless. If you decide to be here, do not be anywhere near an entrance or access point. 3. I left them two messages requesting more information about the burglary and no one ever called me back. 4. I would give this business less than zero stars if I could. Without notice, my monthly payments for my storage unit increased from $60-$100. This is without notice. When I went in to cancel my unit, the person at the front desk told me that they had sent me notice. This is 100% false. I have received all other communication, like the confirmation about my payments being received. She attempted to explain to me supply and demand and stated that since there is only one unit left of the unit size that I have, they have increased their prices. This is a 67% increase and is almost double what I initially agreed to pay.. She said that if I look at page 47 of my agreement, I would find information stating that they could increase prices. She actually told me, and I quote, "We can actually increase the price to whatever we want and I have seen them go higher than this". Even though you sign a contract, pay an activation fee, and all sorts of other fees, to obtain a unit here, they will substantially increase the amount that you're paying without notice. I asked if they are in the practice of lowering their costs when demand is low. Of course not. She also made sure to tell me "you're paid through the beginning of next month so you might as well keep your unit until then because we're not giving you any of your money back". I also believe that the five star reviews on here are fake. With the amount of one star reviews, I am seeing and the average still being so high, I am sure this number is conflated. Horrible customer service, horrible service, and horrible price gouging. read more

I've been renting the storage unit since 2022 and records will show I haven't accessed my storage much. Cameras will also be able to reflect that. This makes my storage unit idle for time. However; when I came to gather my things to empty out my storage unit - after I'd called them telling them I will be out by a certain date - I noticed I was robbed. I was missing several things valued over $5000 dollars. There was no damage to the lock on my storage unit, which implies this may have been an inside job. My unit is on the 4th floor INSIDE the facility. How can anyone get in without having a code? This is very dangerous and highly concerning. I am filing a police report and making my experience known on Google and Yelp. Customers expect safety and security of their items. I requested an inside storage unit to avoid this very situation. There are codes to access elevators and enter the gate, and cameras in your facility and yet this type of criminal activity seamlessly occurred under this management. The staff is useless. Don't rent here. Drive out to a nicer area and rent from there it'll be worth it. These guys are garbage. I regret it and paying nearly $300 a month all this time for 2+ years. For what? To still get my items stolen even though there was a lock on my unit, untouched? How is that possible? A robber would cut the lock off and leave it unlocked. How is it my unit still had a lock with a security sticker on it? This was done by staff and I stand by it. I will also be requesting camera footage from your facility and neighboring businesses. I am outraged by this experience and will work to ensure appropriate action be taken. read more

Not a great experience. Had some Christmas gifts I was keeping out of the house stolen from my unit 9 days into moving in. Was told from the facility manager that I would receive a phone call regarding the theft within 24 hours. It's been 10 days since that interaction and haven't received a call, email or message of any kind. Facility is clean and modern and I can understand theft happening but the lack of follow up clearly shows they could care less when it happens. read more

My son's unit was broken into and everything worth anything was stolen. Police showed up to file a police report. While my son was waiting for police another gentleman was also waiting for the police because his unit was broken into also. No apologies from the manager. Manager seemed not to give a darn. One thing I've learned in life is that it's best to avoid the corporate chain version of any business, because they always pretty much slurp. And as it turns out, that's definitely true of corporate storage-- these Extra Space clowns wanted to charge me $20 for a lock even though I told them I have my own. The (rude and condescending) woman on the phone said she had "no choice" but to charge me because "it's already prepped in the system." She also wanted to charge me an extra $29 "admin fee." That fee and the lock I didn't need were going to cost me more than the price of the unit! So I hung up and called someone else. They gave me a comparable monthly rate without those extra "screw you" charges that corporations seem to love so much. And that, ladies and gents, is why you ALWAYS go mom and pop whenever you can. I'll start off by saying I have never used a storage service before, so maybe I had unrealistic expectations. I have a small 5x5 unit because I simply want a small amount of long-term storage, and I bought a unit on an upper floor as I was warned that they've had flooding in the past due to plumbing issues that have since been fixed, but I take no chances when it comes to water. Initially the space was very clean and well managed based on my first impressions and I believe that in general, it probably is well run and well managed overall. My experience has been a little bumpy. I was issued the wrong gate code so I couldn't access my unit on my first attempt after driving across town with my car full, only to have to empty it since I park outside and didn't want to leave it in my car overnight. Extra Space was kind enough to refund a pro-rated amount of my rent for the days I couldn't access my unit because I couldn't get in the gate. However, more recently, I've been battling them on the insurance they sell you when you get your unit. They won't lease to you without signing paperwork on site that you have insurance. I find this an odd policy because even most apartment complexes (where you live, and pose greater chances of causing damage or fire) usually give you a week or two to secure renters insurance. In my case I knew my renters insurance already covered any storage unit I have (I knew this because I previously worked in the P&C insurance industry) but since they would NOT let me sign my lease without buying their insurance (since I didn't have my current renters dec page on me at the time) I bought the insurance and was told that I would be able to get it canceled immediately once I send over insurance. I confirmed in less than 24 hours via email through my agent that my policy covered my storage unit and confirmed my coverage limits. I forwarded that over, and they reminded me they needed the dec page as well. I sent the dec page over and thought we were good. Only later did I find out that I guess they never updated their records with this new dec page so here we are 2 months later, still trying to get this insurance off my account and my over-charged rent corrected. I finally thought it was all fixed last week, to get a letter today that shows the incorrect cancellation date of 9/13 when I needed this cancelled all the way back to the original issue date, since I had confirmed my own insurance less than 24 hours later. I get the world is not perfect, but this issue is related to a standard practice that applies to every tenant, so the fact that they don't have a clear way to avoid these types of errors makes me think that they aren't managing their paperwork properly or it's a scam where they hope you don't notice you're being double charged erroneously for insurance, or hoping that most people are suckered into buying the insurance they don't need if they already have a renters or home owners policy that will cover their personal property. Sticking the course, hoping we can get past this sh*t-storm but it's been frustrating as all hell. read more

The price was right, the conveniences and cleanliness were as expected, and the front desk attendant was kind and helpful. The security system is thorough with gate codes, individual alarms, and cameras near the elevators. The elevators themselves were super handy. I loved having an indoor storage unit so that there was less chance of weather related issues. However... Several homeless LIVE in their units at this facility. They arrive early in the morning and stay until closing EVERY day. They spread their things out to make it seem plausible that they are just re-organizing or searching for something. They plug their electronics in, play music, and bring their dogs inside. They use the carts to haul in and store their things on, keeping a cart out of service all day. I brought things in and out several (at least ten) times in my two months there, at various times of day, and these folks were living in their units every single time I was there. Additionally, this storage company has a policy that even if you bring your own lock, they will stick a very sticky, residue-leaving, difficult-to-remove sticker on your personal lock exclaiming their business name. Annoyed, I removed the sticker several times, and they called and emailed me telling me to cease doing so. A short time later my storage needs lessened, so I decided to remove the rest of my things and cancel. The next day I got confirmation email for my clean out and cancellation with no hiccups, so the cancellation process seemed smooth and painless. Overall, the potential for an impressive storage experience was dulled by people living in the units and the company defacing my property. read more

Received excellent service today from the team at extra space storage on sunrise Boulevard. I was unfortunately left locked out of a rental unit I paid for at a different company's storage location, and had to quickly find a place for my moving company to place a truckload of household goods. I called extra space, they set me up with a storage unit, and the women in the office were absolutely outstanding, friendly, and extra helpful. It was a great experience, and I would highly recommend extra space storage. read more

Check other places nearby first!!! Many of the storage units around this area are renting their same-sized spaces for about $50 less a month. My girlfriend signed up over the phone and I stop by the unit, buy a lock off them the next day and hours later they are telling me that they won't let us out of our lease for the month and we hadn't even moved our stuff in. They apparently raise their rates beased on their availability and not other locations. Superior Storage (closer to the freeway) had availability, a rental truck FREE for 1 day and added alarms on each unit...and were charging about $189/month, same price as Cubesmart down the street as well as Gold River Storage. Extra Space storage rented us a space that is oddly shaped to a point where I feel the need to measure it to ensure its the agreed upon 10x15 space. It has a light bulb that doesn't work in the unit and a LOT of dead bees on the ground outside the unit. The manager was so unfriendly when it came to the possibility of matching nearby prices, and adament on being stuck for the month since it was paid (less than 24 hours) that I don't want to do business with this place... But you have a choice before you sign up at least. If I wasn't so busy moving I'd get my lawyer club a reason to be used. But there is always after the move. read more

I was very impressed with their service because two different times I went over there to store some things I forgot to lock my unit properly and they do a check of every unit to make sure the units are locked. Having dealt with various storage units, I never thought I would write a five-star review for a storage unit company until now. I am happy in every way with the service and facilities that Extra Space Storage provided. After reading the very positive reviews for this facility, I decided to check it out in person when I was back in Sacramento for a brief visit (before my permanent move back). The location was not only super-convenient for where I was going to be, I instantly liked the staff, the brightness of the buildings, and the cleanliness of the units. I didn't sign a contract right away, and went back to Northern Virginia. However, once I made the decision to go with Extra Space, I was able to go to a nearby location in Northern Virginia to complete all the paperwork, and get my unit here in Sacramento secured. Fast forward to my move from the East Coast -- Jenna and Sean were super-accommodating, and allowed me to park a long-ish trailer inside the gates overnight, before the moving company came back to pick it up the next day. No attitude, no if's and but's -- just very eager to work with me. I ended up renting the unit for about 5 months, and every time I called or stopped by to visit, Jenna and Sean were friendly, professional, and helpful. When I finally gave notice that I was moving out, the process was very simple too. We decided on a date, and that was it. No hassle and no billing problems. The facility was always brightly lit inside and out. I liked the fact that the air-conditioned level required a security code for access, which gave me an extra sense of security. As other folks have noted, there are multiple carts in front of the elevators to help ease any move you are making. And I cannot emphasize enough the cleanliness aspect, which other folks have talked about as well. I was in and out of my unit quite regularly, and the entire time, I never saw a single bug. Not even a spider. In fact, I went and asked Jenna how they managed to achieve that on the day I moved out of the unit. Believe me, bugs are a deal-breaker for me, and I would not have allowed my stuff to be in a unit for 5 months if I thought there was a bug issue. Extra Space has mastered the art of making it easy and pleasant to do business with them, and I will not hesitate to recommend Extra Space to other folks, particularly this Sunrise location. read more

the employee's are very helpful very friendly and kind. i had trouble with lots of different places and they were way too pricy and dirty and had no lights so that you may see when come at night no ac and had things hovering over the side of the unit from someone else's!! but when i found *****extra space storage***** it was amazingly clean and it is very well clean kept, has lots of lights, i love the fact that they have ac **great thing to have when you are moving stuff around :) Marcel Smith was more than accommodating from the moment that i called to get directions to me leaving he helped out tremendously and answered every question i had wirhout hesitation. I had a great experience using Extra Space Storage, from start to finish! I initially came to this storage facility because I was referred by a friend. I received excellent customer service the day that I went in to get a storage unit. The process of renting a unit was easy & Jenny was very kind. I really like that the storage units are indoors, temperature controlled & video monitored. This gave me peace of mind as my belongings were stored here. I ended up using this facility for 9 months & never had a single problem. Every interaction that I had with the front desk was positive & Jenny was always helpful. The entire property was always clean each time I went there & they even have air fresheners in the hallway to keep the place smelling fresh. They also provide carts to help you move your things which made moving in & out so easy! This is by far the best experience that I've had using a storage facility. AMAZING experience here. I called for a same-day unit and immediately I had a reservation and instructions for what to do when I got there. I arrived at the location about an hour later and Andy helped up through the entire process. He showed me to the (immaculately clean) unit and gave me all associated instructions and rules. The units have their own light, and the hallways are very well-lit, which makes for such a better experience than having to rifle through your stuff in the dark--like at other places I have stored items. He made it very simple for us to understand the layout of the building and how to access the unit, showed us the gate codes and personally walked us around.
