I prepaid at $100/month for six months for a unit on the lower level. Three months in, their elevator was out of service for several months. At the 5 month mark, they let me know they'd be doubling my rent to $200/month. Terrible, "I'm just a victim" customer support when you call them on their BS. Avoid this janky place like the plague. read more

VERY SLIMY BUSINESS. After three months they increased the price from $140 to $250 a month. They know that customers have moved and can't easily jet off to Chicago and move all of their stuff to another location. This should be illegal. I thought Extra Space might be better than Public Storage but it's worse. At least the Public Storage increases are reasonable, like $20, and after a year. Just blatantly taking advantage of people in this case. read more

I rented a unit at this location in November of 2022 for $98. Five months later, I got a text that my rate would be increased to $167. I called the office and they lowered it to $115. In October 2023 got another text that my new rate is $203. Asked to negotiate that and never heard back. Double the rate in 11 months...now I have to pay movers to move everything out. read more

DO NOT rent space from an Extra Space storage facility - especially this one (but my bet is the experience is consistently bad at all of them). I can share with you numerous significant issues based on my real world experience with them -- from false advertising (measure the unit yourself!) to consistent rate increases to terrible communication. and horrible customer service. Trust me, go somewhere else!! I would have given them zero stars if app allowed. read more

Security: Unit was in difficult to access location, doors and elevator often did not function as properly requiring multiple attempts to access buildings. Additionally, Lot is poorly secured allowing to approach while this is happening thus leaving customers vulnerable to theft, harassment, or violence. Cameras contain blind spots, work intermittently, and due to the nature of the business I would recommend additional exterior cameras. Secure fob or app based gate recommended for after hours when employees not present. Leave gate open during business hours to accommodate traffic hazard for visitors. Access is difficult off Fullerton, and for large loads would require a team as structure is difficult to navigate through oddly sized cooridors. Also substantially high vehicular accident risk rating for this location in box trucks or vehicles with blind spots due to the nature of this intersection, motorist driving patterns and volume of traffic. (Witnessed a box truck struggle for a good 45 minutes to park) Structure: Structure bathrooms were left for periods of days (my assessment was properly cleaned and disinfected every 3/5 days) with "spot cleaning" done every 2/3, bathroom was never observed bathrooms "cleaned satisfactory" and would rate in regular poor condition in comparison to other units in major cities across CONUS. Basement floor contains trace mold counts observed in public hallways, allowing public spread of mold throughout all basement units. Basement unit has "open roof" thus allowing mold spores to travel via air causing contamination. conditions rated as a substantial liability for both business and consumer. Soft goods, electronics, photographic equipment, and items with porous surfaces can multiply on these surfaces and render the items obsolete. Structure in need of repairs as sheet metal is protruding in areas due to unrepaired damage and poses potential health hazard to employees and visitors. Unit conditions rated at "poor" condition due to presence of mold in public areas, open air content of spores, unit hardware (door was rusted and difficult to open) Furthermore; we were charged a full month despite discovering this, leaving what we loaded and having to double move. Being inconvenienced and charged in full (then moving out early despite a full free month marketed on a giant banner out front) would have been the proper course of action in rectifying poor business practices considering this business is likely aware it is not compliant with the district public health and safety codes. The manager was kind, welcoming, and professional - however that does not protect my assets. read more

Showed up at 10.25am today (should have been open for about an hour), the office was closed. There was a note on the door that someone would be back at 10.30am, so we waited. There was a number to call on the door if no one was around, so a bit past 10.30am, I called it. No answer. I left a voicemail saying I was downstairs and I'd wait a bit longer. We had a toddler in the car who was getting restless, so around 10.40am or so, there still wasn't anyone around, and no one had called me back (still not even now actually, 12 hours later), so we left and got storage somewhere else. Now obviously, my experience was limited here, but the other place had 2 people employed at the front desk, so one could step away, but there would always be someone to help you; which I feel is the right thing to do. Now, this place may not be bad at all, once you manage to be a customer, obviously I wouldn't know; but that's the extent of my experience with them. read more

Three years ago, I moved from Hoffman Estates to Chicago (Logan Square), knew nothing about anything, and called the closest Extra Space Storage; Ms. Barbara answered with the most convivial voice and personality. She knew what I needed when I told her what was being stored "temporarily." I was dubious with the recommended storage unit due to the stress of moving, but she was right! Fast forward, my belongings were stored nicely with the climate-control building, as I had to sell my items for being in storage longer than they were worth. Customer-service is impeccable with Ms. Barbara. Her recent hire, Carl, is a good man to boot. You will not be disappointed. Choose this location! read more

I like this place. I mean, how excited can you get about a storage facility? But for some odd reason, it gives me as much warm and fuzzy as a storage place possibly can. The guy who helped me set up my rental was very friendly and explained everything quickly and clearly. He was juggling like ten things at once at the time, so it took him a little longer to get me out of there than he might have otherwise, but that's just how it goes sometimes. I chose a basement unit, and I really like going down there. It feels good to go through a keypad entry, then another one to get into the elevator, then a twisty labyrinth of hallways to get to my unit. It's like getting into Control Headquarters on Get Smart, minus the phone booth elevator. I'm sure there's logic behind the layout but it really feels like a big random maze, like it's the Hollywood version of a storage facility. I don't know what a storage place would have to do to earn five stars. It would have to be like Gringotts where those goblins kept Harry Potter's gold or something. read more

I've never had any problems storing my items at this Extra Space Storage location. They're the least expensive storage facility in the area. The facility is always very clean. My unit is in the basement, but the distance to it has never been an issue. There are always carts right there for you to use to get your stuff to the elevator. I like that it takes 2 keypads plus 2 padlocks (for my unit at least) to access my stuff. I feel like it's secure. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is that they raised my rates suddenly. I understand that they have to be competitive, but I felt like I got scammed by an "introductory" offer that went up after I'd been storing with them for a few months. read more

We have stored items for the last 9 months. We set things up remotely and all details were handled professionally. Billing was set up for monthly and all communications were clear with no hidden surprises. We again had to set up the pick up from Extra Space Storage remotely and Lequnda was the most professional, helpful and pleasant employee! We can't say enough about her incredible responsiveness and her keeping us informed every step of the way. Yesterday I went to pay for my unit that I had talked with and Barbara Intelligent said I am not going to show you the unit she then said I am going to call the cops on you. I called to speak with a representative about Barbara and how she treats African American customers. I was told by Barbara at the time to call Corporate which I did. I was told that her supervisor Beau would be calling me back the following day. When I called back the following day I was told I was told I was banned from Extra Space Storage. My advice to any person of color is avoid Barbara and choose another company. read more
