The space is nice- but the cost is growing at an alarming rate. In one month my rate increased by 30 dollars!!

Don't believe their advertised rental rates. They will begin raising the rent as soon as contractually possible with absurd increases. 137% increase in ONE YEAR. Think long and hard about how much you are willing to pay for what you are planning to store BEFORE you move in. The contract has no limit to how much they can raise the rental rate and they will just keep going. I wouldn't trust anything sensitive in storage here, as there are garbage cans in the walkways collecting leaking water from the roof. read more

I would definitely avoid this place due to their shady practice of raising your rates shortly after signing your lease. They get you in with these "Web Rates" and in no time you will be paying almost double. Been with them for a little over a year and they raised the rent from $38 to $58, $10 at a time as if that makes it less noticeable. Meanwhile the "Web Rate" right now for the same unit is $29. Just spoke to their "District Lead or Manager" named Ashley and when I asked why my rates spiked so much she gave me some spiel about their costs. Then be honest and charge that up front instead of getting people in the door and feeling like you can do what you want afterwards because of the hassle it is to move your stuff. Not cool. Will be looking for someplace new for sure. Watch them raise my rates again after reading this. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I took advantage of the online promotion for 1month free storage. I rented a climate control unit from March 2016 thru October 2016. When I went to pick up my thing all my clothes were molded. I called the assistant manager, Bernadette Zaleski, to tell her about my clothes. She was only interested in when I would be vacating the unit. No intetest at all about my loss. I wouldn't expect if you rent a climate control that I would get mold. read more

AVOID this place. FLOODING here due to roof leaks 2016-07-07. Ruined everything on floor of my unit. Other units destroyed most everything in their storage unit. Manager on site overwhelmed and alone. District management talks about "working on it from the back end". The district manager I spoke to was not helpful and all of them try to stop you reaching above them in the mgt chain to find someone who cares. They have a water disaster taking out large numbers of storage units. I happened upon it. They haven't contacted people who's units are affected though they claim they are. They lied to my face and said they weren't aware of water my area of the building but this was just the mgr being completely overwhelmed. I came back a day later and far more water damage with a river in the aisle. I was lucky I had already planned to leave this place and 3/4 of my stuff was gone. There is 1 person on site for a flood which is destroying people's belongings. ONE. The manager's above her haven't even come to the site to see the damage. I am free of these guys cause before the flood the place was marginal at best and I was planning to leave already. They lure you in with low rates then jack 'em up quickly. Most of the locking doors don't work. Often none of the dollies are available and the office with let you "borrow" theirs for awhile. You've been warned. Don't store your stuff here. Even if you have insurance, the pain involved in disposing of your water logged stuff is miserable. read more

My mom rented here for 4 yrs. I would ask her over and over to move to Uhaul becuas of the awesome experiences Ive had. She kept saying no Im gonna get my things out and dont need a storage. Extra Space raised her storage about every six months and only care about new customers. They had the nerve to tell me that the reason they raised my moms rent was because she is a long time customer! I CANT BELIEVE THIS. BUT WAIT...THERES MORE! My mom passed and we (her 3 kids) had to clean out her storage. They treated us like garbage, we were so distraught over losing our best friend and they had absolutely NO COMPASSION, Tara kept saying "policy this - policy that" and she acted like she hated our mother and the really messed up thing is My mom thought Tara was a friend she even gave her a fancy (knockoff) purse once During the four years she rented. My siblings had to return to their homes in other states so everything was left up to me. I moved her furniture out and needed one more day to pick up her clothing and shoes, etc and donate them to charity. well the manager TARA refused to let me back in. She said I had to pay for 10 more days in order to get the remainder of her things. I told her I had no money that my moms funeral wiped us out...and here it comes 'policy this - policy that" I honestly think she wanted my moms purses cause the storage was full of them. The only reason I posted this is because I've been in customer service for many years and know this is not the way to treat customers. I hope nobody goes through this like we did. They'll significantly raise your rates after 3 months. All of these other Yelp reviews on here are 100% telling you the truth. Watch out. They won't tell you that at all when you sign up, and it's not expressely listed within your contract but this place will scam you out of your money. What a shame. At first, it seems like a great deal. Then every 9 months they increase the monthly payment and the amount is always different (more than the previous increase). They also only send letters to people, so even if letters are returned to them, they do not reach out any other way to make the renter aware of the increase. I just called on 5/26/17 and she claimed "we don't call the customer, we just send letter" but when they need a payment.....they call. Why couldn't they call to nicely inform me of the $10 monthly increase? I mean, it's only my money. read more

Agree with the majority of reviews on here so far: they routinely raise the price. By a lot and often! We just got a notice that our current rate of $48 was going to $88!! They agreed that was too high, and lowered it to $66, which is still a $24 increase in just over a year of renting there (1yr, 3mo). Most other units that size on the market are $50 or under. Their explanation for raising the rent is that the longer you are a customer, the more you pay. I can understand having to keep up with utilities and business expenses. . . but not at the frequency and levels in which they are raising it. Unreal. Go with another company. Any other! read more

Not cool for raising my storage rent twice!! I've been using extra space storage for a little bit over a year and I just received a notice stating that they are raising my unit to $92. When I checked online my 7x10 unit is going for $66! (before insurance) How come a new customer gets a discount, but somebody who has used your company for over a year gets their rent raised! Renters beware they show low prices online, but within a few months they will raise your rent. I am moving my stuff out of there ASAP. read more

We signed up for this storage unit about a month ago. The sign up process was okay, I was also told that prices will go up periodically. We've been back about 3 times and there have been no carts and the elevator isn't working properly. We were stuck for 5 minutes until the elevator went back down to ground level. There were no signs informing us that it wasn't working, another couple had also gotten stuck and let us know the doors weren't opening on any other levels. read more

This place is over priced and a rip off. Had a unit there for years. They have raised my rates more than a few times until they had me paying $172.00 for a 10X7 space. I finally decided to check around and price at other facilities. I am now renting a 10X10 space at another facility for $72.00 per month (regular rate). That is a $100.00 savings per month. And.......... I have a larger unit!! Make sure you check prices at other facilities before you sign a contract here!! Extra Space Storage is overpriced and not a good value. Unless you need to have a space right around the corner from your residence or business, you're best off to look elsewhere!! read more

This was my first time renting a storage unit and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy and affordable the process was. From how easy their website was to navigate and understand to their over the phone customer service and especially with Terry in store, it all was smooth and straightforward. The prices remained the same all the way through signing the lease which really surprised me as I expected to be nickel and dimed once we got there. Terry showed us around the property and explained everything in a clear and very helpful way. He made sure our pass code worked and provided excellent customer service. I would gladly return to this location if I'm ever in need of storing stuff ever again. read more

I store my household furniture here. It is mostly safe and mostly heated; the staff I've contacted are polite but I rarely go there. I wish I'd gone somewhere else. BEWARE- They raise my rent frequently Without Notification of any kind! They call and email me demanding payment before payment is due then again on the day that I make an on-time electronic payment. After I have paid on-time and received the email receipt they continue calling and emailing demanding the payment I have already made and received receipt for. If you rent here be prepared for frequent rent increases!!!!! WARNING When I said that I wanted a long-term storage they said I could get one rent-free month every two years. THIS IS NOT TRUE AND HAS NOT HAPPENED. They definitely DO NOT NOTIFY tenants when they raise the rent (usually twice a year or more). read more

While the staff was nice enough, I was annoyed about the insurance requirement. Insurance is not posted on the website, nor was it brought up in the follow up phone call. I have renters insurance, but verbal and grace period isn't good enough, I would have to either not take the space on the day or call my agent. I did not have the phone number and signed up anyway taking out the excessively priced insurance. A few days later I brought in the paperwork and cancelled the insurance. No refund. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I also had an experience the same as the below reviewer of finding a barely conscious man living in his unit. I also had my unit broken into and received little help from the staff. She wouldn't even call the police for me to file a report. I was told it wasn't their problem and that is why i have insurance. I later found out I wasn't the only person for this to happen to. There is no security and very few cameras. The doors do not close behind you half the time and many times I witnessed them not locking. Manager Tara was rude and incompetent in explaining rate increases. I called this number thismorning (773) 685-8080 in order to INQUIRE about the facility. A lady who didn't provide her name offered me a 5x7 space for a $29 move in fee, $67 per month with the first month free. When I said that was too much, she lowered the move in fee to $9 and $57 per month. She claimed that was the last space left in that size (yeah right). I eventually found out she was located at Salt Lake City, UT at the national reservation center and had never seen or been to the facility herself but she was looking at photos of it. I was trying to get her to describe the traffic and parking situation to me because I know it's very busy over there. I told her I wanted to go check it out in person but she insisted over and over that I put the $9 down on my credit card and if I change my mind it's fully refundable. I told her I wanted to go to the facility, check it out and then if I decide I'll review the paperwork where I can see the $9 is refundable with no future commitment, as she claimed. I should be able to see paperwork first; I know they'd expect me to sign a contract when I reserve the space so why shouldn't I get to read something first before giving someone my card number over the phone. She became ridiculously pushy, rude, condescending and wouldn't let me off the phone so I had to hang up. Before doing so I told her to remove my phone number from her system. Five minutes later I get a call from Jeff at (773) 685-8254, which I sent to voice mail and I'm assuming was from the local facility. I'll be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

BURGLARIZED AT EXTRA SPACE STORAGE!!! If you have belongings in storage here, or were thinking of using Extra Space Storage, please read this. I was going on a trip to Europe for a few months and I put all my belongings in storage there. The woman working there assured me that there hadn't ever been a theft there and she'd worked there for over 10 year but I should get the insurance anyway. I bought the "package" which included a lock and discounted insurance for the first month. The lock wasn't in it's package like the rest on the wall but I didn't think twice about it at the time. After all my belongings were in, sometime later before I left my space had been broken into. The lock wasn't forced, it was picked. For this type of lock you need to remove the key in the locked position. My space was locked when I opened it and noticed that my stuff had been all shuffled around and my most expensive items had been stolen. The woman working there (same one) didn't act surprised nor was she helpful. In the front of the store there are monitors showing the cameras in the building, but the cameras are looking at the elevator, not the spaces. She said there should have been a log of my door alarm going off, but there wasn't. (inside job?). And oddly, one of the first things the woman said to me when I said I had been robbed was that the key's can't be copied for their locks. She said this right away, claiming that I could go to the locksmith next door and ask whether they could be copied and he'd say no. Obviously they can be copied. In all likelihood, she copied my key before giving it to me. The insurance company said they couldn't do anything because there were no signs of forced entry. They didn't even bother sending out someone to look even though they said they would. The woman at Extra Space Storage said a technician would come to investigate whether the alarm on my space worked. They never came. I asked her repeatedly in the weeks after the burglary took place and she kept saying that it hadn't happened. When I talked to the police, they said I wasn't the only person who has been burglarized there and they Extra Space Storage refused to turn over the video tapes. I talked to the regional manager of Extra Space Storage and all he did was defend the woman working there. Contacting their corporate office did nothing either. For a corporate chain, I'm appalled at how terrible this company has been. So now I'm out $4000 on top of the cost of renting a truck and moving all my belongings to another storage space. This is by far one of the worst companies I have ever used. If you have your belongings there, I suggest removing them before someone else does. Their security is horrendous. The flashing monitors and cameras at the entrance are all show. Anybody can walk in there during the middle of the day with bolt cutters and steal anything they want. Nothing is safe there. If you have been burglarized at Extra Space Storage on 4400 W Addison, contact Detective Molane at area 5 property crimes 312-746-8362. Keep trying if you can't get through. read more

I rented a 5x10 space from July 2011-January 2012 while I was selling my house and moving between two living places. I found everyone there to be responsive and extremely customer-service oriented. The rates are very competitive and the staff is more than willing to work with clients to minimize additional charges when vacating. I visited my space pretty much during the week, not on weekends, and I never had problems finding a parking slot and trolley. However, I'm sure it's much busier on weekends. I never had any negative experiences at the facility or dealing with this company. You can do almost everything you need to do administratively online. read more

Nice place and good setup. The people are friendly and helpful. They will push you to give them a 5-star rating when you move in. I got a good rate online but, not surprisingly, my rate is going to increase on the day I hit 6 months. Having rented at a different Extra Space facility, this appears to be standard practice. They reel you in with a really competitive price, and then start cranking the thumbscrews. For the moment, I'll keep it, but I'm clearing it out _when_ I get the next notice (betcha it's on my 1-year). They'll tell you they have to raise rates to deal with costs, but that's bull; were it true, they wouldn't have such interesting and consistent timing. It's also worth noting that they're pretty much going to force you to pay an extra $10 for insurance. read more
