Is it true you purchased Marge Carson? Please confirm you will keep to the quality and elegance of her design?! My two favorite pieces are from this collection and years later still look gorgeous.

Well worth the visit to see the selection of garden furniture. It's seems to be unique to the area as I don't know of any other store with garden stuff like this. It isn''t stuff to find at Tuesday Morning but actual old iron and stone benches and tables and chairs, just delightful! The store itself is nice with a good selection of furniture, jewelry and smalls. I feel though that the prices are a bit high compared to other area stores, but it just might be the slight difference in quality and rarity of items compared to other stores. ( I'm not enough of a expert to know.) The store is packed so plan on a long visit.... in between the garden courtyards are more back buildings filled with less qulaity furniture and stuff. All together I think there are 3 buildings, and 2 courtyards. I also recommend not bringing your screaming kids- the aisles are quite narrow and stuff is piled high and one bad move of the elbow and I bet someone will be buying the things they break. Touch with your eyes, not with your hands!

I didn't know that this was a store until I drove up in front of it. This kind of "bait and switch" tactic is something common for shady businesses to drive foot traffic. (The lesson here is *always* street-view an address even if you're running late.) When I contacted him over FB, he never said it was a business or that this item was actively for sale on the floor. Even when I was running late to pick and messaged him *from my car as I was driving there* with a new estimated time of arrival, he confirmed that it was OK and never said it was a business or that he was still lining up other customers. I got there just in time to watch another person arrive to pick the item (that I had driven nearly an hour out of my way to come pick up) because he also arranged a pick-up with her at the same time. This business claims to be a charity for a supported living facility for recovering addicts, which is laudable and the type of business I would love to support. As far as an internet search tells me, Trinity Sober Living is an LLC, not a non-profit. While I'm sure there are many for-profit recovery centers that help people, they are not charities. It's disappointing to see such deceptive and misleading business practices from this owner.

Hearth & Home - This pilot light no longer goes out at the worst time

Some folks are disputing this but think about it, do you want the pilot of your plane on your trans-Pacific flight with 100 hours of flight experience?? Or do you want the person with 10,000 hours?? Speaking of pilots, the pilot light in my gas fireplace kept going out and it kept going out when outside temperatures went below 25F. That's right, it went out when you needed it most. So after firing up the pilot light manually for seemingly over two Winters, I said to myself, this is insanity. So I used Yelp to conduct a comparative analysis and called four fireplace companies. Here were the outcomes of those calls: - one company does not fix gas fireplaces. - the second company made me leave a message and it took the guy like 3 days to call back and he had an attitude like he was disgruntled from the get-go (meaning from the onset). - the third company wanted to charge a service call for diagnosing the problem and couldn't comment on the overall costs. - the fourth company was Hearth & Home and Pat (who turned out to be the owner) was a straight shooter (meaning forthcoming with details). Pat asked the year, make, model, serial number of my gas fireplace. He listened to me about my fireplace's symptoms and gave me a likely diagnosis and projected costs of the part and service. I had a very good feeling about his Integrity and thought the cost was reasonable. The appointment was booked and weeks later, Mike came as scheduled. Mike has 10 years experience and although he huffed and puffed here and there while fixing it, I had no doubt that with his expertise (10,000 hours) we would be up and running in no time. And that's what happened, my fireplace got fixed, within budget and right in time for me to make it to the Yelpies event last week!! Thank you Pat, Mike and H&H for this professional experience. Otherwise I would have missed that great event by Kesha and Celeste!!

West Loop, Near West Side

We used Design Inside for our recent condo renovation, and we were pleased with our designer,…read moreAbigail. We had looked into three or four design firms and went with Design Inside because we got along well with Abigail from the initial consultation. She's friendly and had suggestions from our first meetings. Our remodeling scope was pretty basic (resurface hardwood floors, install new tiling, new lighting, new kitchen countertops/backsplash/hardware, painting, etc.) We weren't planning on taking down any walls or putting up new walls - hence "pretty basic" in our eyes! The initial few weeks involved back and forth with designs and occasional meetings with Abigail so she could get a handle on what we wanted done. Abigail was accommodating with meeting/phone times, and would often meet with us late afternoons or early evening. She created designs we had never thought of doing (enclosing in structural poles, wainscoting, etc). Abigail also was able to easily "read" my husband and I in terms of color schemes and we ended up choosing one of the first few samples of tiling and backsplash that she dropped off with us. Kudos for that! Abigail also provided us bimonthly hours summary / detail so we knew how much we were being charged for her services. She would break down the time she spent working for us by the minute and it was helpful to see where our dollars were being spent. From a "grand overall design", Abigail did a good job, but when we started getting into the details in the later phases, we did run into a few minor issues. I recommend ordering all materials / furniture / art yourself and not going thru Design Inside. With a little work on the intranet, you can find it cheaper, not to mention a lower delivery charge. We had a few material mix-ups with Design Inside - i.e. we received the wrong hardware; not enough tile or grout was ordered. Abigail's measurements for the den were incorrect so she didn't order enough tile / grout - her measurements for the wallpaper were also off, but this time we almost ordered too much. The invoice system used by Design Inside is a little confusing and you should pay very close attention and track your own expenses. It's hard to describe but trying to track all the bills and refunds with the invoices provided was difficult. Overall - I would recommend Design Inside and Abigail for your remodeling needs. I would just offer a bit of advice to double check measurements and order your own materials, but would still recommend the company. Abigail provided different designs and options that demonstrated her design skills as well as her ability to connect with us in terms of what our goal of the remodel was. In our eyes, that was key.

In addition, she directed me on where to invest dollars and where we could save. We worked on several areas of my home in tandem...living room, hallway, master bedroom and guest room. Not to mention storage ideas and thoughts on future bathroom projects. The process was seamless and easy. We put a plan together in a few hours and we were off to the races. One of the most enjoyable experiences in working with Katy was the ability for me to add my own personal touches along the way. She really adapts to her clients in terms of how involved they would like to be. For me, I had lots of ideas that Katy helped me bring to life, streamline and balance. And she also encouraged me to take chances with paint colors, fabric upholstery choices and more. My gallery wall is one of my favorites! I could never have measured and hung with such precision. And my reupholstered hallway bench is one of my favorite stand-out pieces. Thanks Katy! I love Katy's design eye, easy-to-work with attitude and desire to put her client's style into every choice. My condo is finally a home! Love it! I highly recommend working with Design Inside and I plan on doing so for my next projects!
