These four stars are for the amazing staff: Karin, Ashley, and Edward. The people who work here are friendly, warm, funny, happy and helpful. I trust them. They made my many experiences there enjoyable, helped me get the right size unit at the best price, and made me feel more relaxed amidst the stress of moving. The (fifth) missing star belongs to the Extra Space corporation. They are very aggressive about raising rates. They usually raise your rent by about 50% just 3 months after you sign up and again 6 months later. So, it's important to calculate that in when you're shopping around and comparing prices. However, I've found that if you call the local office or go in and talk with them, they are often able to lower the price, which is a godsend. Like I said, this staff's the best. (ExtraSpace, give these folks a raise! They are the key to your customer retention!) I've now rented 4 units from this location over the past 5 years and in addition to the staff, I keep coming back because of the security on the property is great, the units are in good condition, and my belongings always come out looking exactly like they looked going in. Plus it's in a prime location if you're a Carp local (I mean, who doesn't love a storage facility with a view of the ocean?). *Note: I left a 1 star review back in 2022 when ExtraSpace bought this property and jacked up the rates. Please beware of utilizing this storage facility. Having entered the gate before 8pm to unload one last load from a temporary local move, moments later we were met by blinding headlights from security ushering us off the property. Due to bring rushed, I inadvertantly placed my lock on wrong and was notified of this the next day and asked to return to fix it. I replied within twenty minutes to the text message saying I wasn't sure I would be able to that day. There was no further communication. Two days later I returned to move my lock to the correct position. Instead, I found a plastic tag and was informed by a very rude staff member who lives on site that she cut my lock off and placed a new lock on. Further, the new locks keys had been mailed to me. I asked her why she didn't leave the keys at the desk for me since she knows I'm local. She told me she called me but I didn't return her call. There was no such phone call. Due to her unilateral decision to cut off my lock, I was charged $21 to cut off the lock with no keys available because they were in the mail plus $9 for them being mailed. Once the lock was cut off the very hostile employee who lives onsite asked me whether I wanted help opening my unit. I told her I could manage. Then she informed me the lock "Might be hot from the saw and you might burn your hand but you can handle that, too." This entire exchange was uncalled for and the emplyee's attitude was exceedingly unprofessional. I promptly gave my notice to vacate my storage unit. Because of the inconvenience I was unavailable to pick up young children from daycare and school. I recommend steering clear of this institution and I really wish I had read the reviews before ever renting there. read more

The ladies at the front were very nice and helpful. Ashley was on it when we lost our lock key and was able to cut off and even gave us a new lock for free. She's the best! I would highly recommend renting a unit here. Also the units themselves are in great condition. read more

Let me break it down into what's great, good, and weird! Great- the staff! Karin, Elaine and Ashley are doing a great job. They're professional and friendly. Good- Extra Space Storage is in a good location. Off the highway. Easy in and out. The property is clean and well maintained. Now for the weird- prior to the property becoming Extra Space it was owned and operated by an amazing owner! The place was well maintained, clean and the staff was amazing. Had been storing there for awhile and Then along came Extra storage. Extra Storage implemented "CHARGING BY AN ALGORITHM." What first that mean the rates are based on how full they are. The rates can change based on that one factor. In other words... if they're full your rate goes up! When they are not full they offer rates to bring you in and then raise them. There is not set rate like for one year or even six months!!! My last rate began in May and has gone up! Usually storage rates are good for a year. My rate went up within 4 months. Businesses that have good customers who pay in time, obey the rules and who are kind to the staff should not have to wonder about their storage fees. With everything else going on in the world, having to deal with storage rising costs every few months is not cool! Customer loyalty and service still counts! Wish the previous owners had kept the business. They were focused on the company and loyalty to the customer. Karen and the staff at the Carpinteria Extra Space Storage have been wonderful and kind. This facility is clean and well maintained during the many years I've been a renter, way before before Extra Space took ownership. Unfortunately every few months, Extra Space Storage is HIKING UP THE Rental Unit PRICES ($50 to $100+ ), which doesn't allow for customer appreciation or basic clientele support. Almost like hotel rates, yet with minimal amenities, renovations, or imporvements every few months, so I'm wondering why the HUGE INCREASES placed on the regular clients? I can see charging NEW CLIENTS the NEW RENTAL AMOUNTS, yet disregarding the existing and loyal customers seems like bad business choices and ethics. Unfortunately and financially, will have to start looking elsewhere for a more economical storage unit (5x6-5x7) read more

It's so disappointing to have to write this review. We've used these facilities for thirty years, but they've recently been purchased by a large conglomerate. Rates were quickly and repeatedly raised. The staff is now dismissive and unhelpful, bordering on rude. Asking to resolve an issue, you're left with one answer, call 888-storage. It's impossible to make a simple online payment. I suggest trying other facilities first. read more

I am giving this place a single sad star because they are great at communicating with their clients. I was one of their customers prior to them being bought out by "Extra Space" but once extra space bought them out they raised their prices and sadly a few months later they raised their prices again. I only got letters or emails from them whenever they would raise their prices. For a 5x5 I was paying 141. And online for a new customer they had prices of 67$ for a 5x5. I would assume they would want to keep their older customers happy and keep them instead of scaring them away. Called to try to negotiate with them and they said the lowest they could bring my payment down to was 130 a month. Anyways don't recommend them at all. read more

She said she's the general manager for the storage unit in carpinteria. She verbally accosted me and made me feel like I had been doing something wrong when I took a break unloading my items into storage. I just came back from traveling overseas and I did take a bit of time unloading my items but she told me that I was trying to stay there and live there and then verbally accosted me about how I was unloading my items for my car to the storage unit. I genuinely don't think that people who are that unhinged should be responsible to communicating with the general public. Ashley sharp is her name and if anybody else has had any experiences like that please post them. I do not think they're aware of how aggressive she is. I do not feel safe returning. read more

I've rented storage units here continuously for well over twenty years. The facility was built and managed by a local owner who did a wonderful job. Unfortunately he sold out to a big chain, and they are truly horrible. Over the past nineteen months, they have raised my rent on a 10x15 unit from $393.25 to $521.00 - a 33% increase. Inflation may be high, but it's nowhere near that high. I strongly recommend that you rent a storage space somewhere else. read more

I've been storing my things at this facility for years. It used to be called The Storage Place but now it is run by Extra Space Storage. While it is still a great facility (clean, maintained, and great location), the prices are regularly increased under the new ownership and often by a substantial amount. This is unfortunate, especially for those who were accustomed to having fair and consistent rates in years past. Having said that, I appreciate the helpful and courteous staff. read more

I have to give them 5 Stars for being the most easiest process, simplest and stress free too. I was able to rent over the phone and complete everything via email with Docusign. If only life was this simple Ed was great, friendly and informative, then you get to the facility and meet Dominique (an associate) and she just welcomes you as if you've known her a long time. The staff are rude and pushy I had to empty out a unit and store my stuff in another they said I was taking to long I sat down to take a break and that also got reported back to the manager like I came to relax at the storage their lil maintenance drone stayed hovering around reminding me that I was taking too long then when I got fed up and said I was going to move out he yelled at me and said I'd been there too long and I couldn't get a refund if I were you I'd steer clear of this place . read more
