Nice facility, average cleanliness, sub par customer service at best. I called to reserve a space in the spring and was given one price, charged, and then got a call from a different employee to tell me "I didn't get charged enough" asked for my card again and when I said I didn't feel comfortable with the random price change, the response was "well we can keep your stuff then." ahhh ok? I then had to visit the office because my code didn't work and the guy sitting there was rude, short with me (which was borderline condescending) and was mad that I "interrupted his McDonald's breakfast" and also what appeared to be an anime romance novel... very strange. I'm not sure if he remembered my being upset about the price change or if I was the lucky customer of the day. I didn't know it was his lunch as the office was open, there was no one else to talk to, so what else was I supposed to do? I had another uncomfortable run in with him since. I really don't think I'm going to keep my belongings here after my year is up. I will price out some other places as various reviews online have shared this one is pricier than others. It's closer to where I live but I don't visit it that often and when I do need to, I can't always make the 7 am to 7 pm window because of work/traffic (you can't access your OWN things outside of that window or they FINE you). read more

This is by far the best storage facility in Santa Barbara. It's very clean and good hours from 7am -7pm. It is gated and has a bathroom that has a code to it and is clean as well. Parking is tight but I haven't had an issue as of yet. Jamie is very helpful and runs a professional operation. Yes, the lights go off but you just need to go outside the unit and wave your hands. It doesn't bother me. I have not had issues with moths. I have only been there a few months so I can't totally rule that out however I see the maintenance crew washing the floors and wiping down walls. They definitely take pride in their work. My belonging feel secure and it's a great location. If you can grab a unit here I would do so immediately. read more

I have rented 10 by 10 space and smaller on two separate occasions totaling approx. five years. The staff and facility are very helpful, and friendly. The place is exceptionally clean, and access is ​always in accordance with their posted schedule. I know most of the staff by the first name, and I would not hesitate to leave valuable possessions over long periods of time. I give them the highest rating whatever that is. read more

About 5 very narrow parking strips for 200+units. Very high risk for new car dents and scratches. Trying to find a parking space during the first few days (move-in) and the last few days (move-out) of month is a nightmare! (The former custodian occupied a space in the other parking lot which is the best for vans and busses. The new custodian has been parking his car in middle of the 2 spaces as if he owns the 2 spaces.) read more

Been using a 10 x 10 storage unit here for the past two years. This place is one of the most expensive storage places in SB. I've complained several times about the inside lighting - when you are at your unit, sorting things, the lights switch off on a timer (they have motion sensors which turn the lights on when you walk out of the elevator on your way to your unit). The lights turn off after only 5 minutes. Absolutely frustrating when trying to access your unit and sort items. I asked several times for either the timer to be adjusted to 30mins, or the light sensor overridden upon request. The office manager would not do either. I asked to speak to the owner (at this point stating that I prefer to use local businesses, such as this, rather than big corporations!!), and I was told that two of the owner members have recently passed away, and the remaining member of the family doesn't want to deal with any requests. So there you have it, a company owner who doesn't give a care in the world about the business or it's customers. The manager at the office said she tried to talk to the owner about lighting issues and the owner 'simply didn't want to know'. Avoid this place. read more

On the upside, clean and temperature controlled. On the downside, often lighting issues and infestation, as had an expensive carpet stored in my space that was full of moths when I returned and no allowance or apology offered. Often times there were over-billing mistakes and of the office crew, there is only one competent employee to talk to (Marietta, who is great)! When I went to cash my refund check for my storage locker (I'd paid a full month extra), there was a $7.50 check cashing charge at Wells Fargo Bank, even though the check was drawn on a Wells Fargo Bank account! (And that's after I waited over a month to receive it.) The bank said that was the way they set up their account. What a RIP-OFF! Nobody likes surprises! State Street Storage is THE best place in Santa Barbara for storage! I moved my items from non-temperature-controlled San Marcos Storage because they were such trashy jerks. I've been in good hands with State Street Storage ever since! My temperature-controlled, very nice facility has stored my belongings for a couple years and I'm very happy with them. The Better Business Bureau of California is going to be hearing from me today about this unscrupulous business called State Street Storage. They emailed me an invoice upon moving out, for unit#2611, stating that I would receive $80.50 as a refund. That was four months ago. I have corresponded back and forth with the office manager Marrietta "Marrie" Chavez, (not the on-site manager) and she can barely spell, let alone act in a professional manner when replying to my complaints of not receiving a refund check as of today's date. I have been polite and professional in asking for the refund and now she will not even reply to my emails anymore. Sad. And I thought a business in Santa Barbara would be more diligent in keeping their words in writing on the very refund notice they sent me on their letterhead four long months ago. Nope. I am surprised by the negative previous reviews, This is the BEST storage place in Santa Barbara for many reasons. Very clean units and bathroom, close to town(not in Goleta) great security and well lit hallways. Yes the lights are on timers, so step outside your unit and the lights will activate(I like they are saving energy). Moths and infestation? No way! I have never seen a fly or spider and the one reviewers carpet likely had moth eggs in it before moving in(or a neighbor did). All of the employees are super cool, no attitude and always accomodating. The drop down doors seal tight and the price is very reasonable. Always temp controlled, parking can be tight, but I have never had an issue since I have observed that customers seem to be long term and they tend to come and go at different days and times, not like the cheap month to month places. I almost never write a review because I like to keep the good places and products I find to myself. This review goes out because I am downsizing and moving out after some 8 years. read more
