I strongly advise against renting at Extra Space Storage in Bloomfielddue to severe rat infestations, unsanitary conditions (including feces), and the disturbing discovery of a dead mouse in our rental unit. Terrible storage management. There was tons of rodent feces and urine all over my belongings and furniture. I was unable to get a claim fast enough thru the ins that was offered because they requested photos of all my belongings which I could get not through until I was able to move my things out because they were too heavy. I had to hire movers to get through my furniture to take ice for a claim. read more

Going in I thought this place was clean and the price was economical for what I was looking to store. In about a month and a half, my rate increased. I called in to find out why and was told something about market value. Not sure why this wasn't disclosed at the time of rental however, there is a bait and switch tactic going on here. Also, the place seems clean however it is rat infested and rat feces was all through my storage and belongings. Moving out of here was a blessing but also disgusting and unsanitary with cleaning rat feces off all of my things. I will not recommend this place or ever rent space here or any Extra Space Storage again. read more

I had a unit at Extra Storage Space in Bloomfield NJ. Thankfully, I moved my things out because I had a disgusting mouse problem in my unit that was not addressed. I filed a report and no one contacted me about compensation and to provide me with a new unit! They also jacked up the price three or four times! One time, they sent me a post card informing me that they were increasing the rate by 40 dollars a month! When I called to complain, they reduced it to a 20 dollar increase, but raised it again by another 20 the following year. I started off paying about $130.00 per month and after three years it was up to 185.00, mice included! Don't use this business. Even 1 STAR IS NOT WORTH IT!! Worst customer service!!!! - A) they charged us when we moved prior to our move date - B) then when we called and asked them they said we did not leave the door unlocked when they did bother to check it. Then they reversed the charges -) 5 days later when I drove to the facility and asked the gentlemen (Manager Matt) about the refund.. he said I was charged because I moved post the billing cycle when he did not bother reading the notes and to TOP IT WAS RUDE TO THE SKY!!! Don't use this place is a scam. Bad business practice. I reserved a unit. Unless told it could be push out one week. I went to the online site and went to push back the date. And the unit reservation disappeared. Mind you I was was quoted 1/2 month free and unit 7027 at 163.00 I spoke to Matt the manger and he said oh that was a system glitch. I'll put you back in for Sept 30. When I looked at the reservation he keyed in i noticed the price was wrong. So I go in on the 25th and he's off and the office person say the unit was rented. So I call today to inquire. Not only isnthenonly gone but Matt the manger is a liar. He gave me a quote in front of 2 trainee, and my party of 2. Them goes on to say. He never quoted that that price and never discounted the units in months. Mind you there's a flag out front of the place saying 1 month free. While I was in the location .... another person stated he get bills with a different price every couple of months . The women stated the units are based on market rate and will up. Find another place to store your belong. I would trust them to house my possessions. read more

My Dilemma: I needed to move my belongings into storage at the last minute. I found Extra Space Storage (ESS) in Orange, NJ. The reviews for ESS were okay, so I decided to chat with the Rep online. I was referred to the BLOOMFIELD location for their "First Month Free" promotion. The Rep helped me figure out I needed a 5 x 10. I reserved the deal - no credit/debit card needed. Pretty quickly I received a call from Matt, the Site Manager from the BLOOMFIELD location. He answered my questions and I set up a time to tour the facility and see the unit I was getting. He said if I needed a larger unit, I could see the others when I visited. One of the first things I mentioned was how a Google Maps search listed their location and picture incorrectly. Everyone, ESS Bloomfield is so new that Google is currently working on the correct search and picture location for them. It comes up as if it's on a University campus in Newark. Obviously this is NOT the Extra Space Storage in Bloomfield you would be using. ESS Bloomfield is actually located right next to the Home Depot on Orange Street. So if you want to find their location on a map, search for the Home Depot on Orange Street in Bloomfield. Google Maps isn't always up to date. They're off on this one...for now. :-) Tour Day: The facility. Nice. Really Niiiiiiiiiiice. Clean outside. Parking lot in front. Same niceness on the inside. Packing materials available inside for purchase if you need any additional boxes or kits. Matt was at the front desk working with a customer. Patricia, the Assistant Manager, was also at the front desk. SHE was my tour guide. She's super friendly, really cool. And you can't help but notice the security screens on the wall. This place is SECURED!!!! The Tour: My unit was not on the first floor, just as I wanted. Apparently the first floor units may cost a little more because of the convenience, but I don't think it really matters because...we took the elevator up (convenient and super fast - not waiting 100 years for it), around a corner and some steps down the hall. The biggest thing I had was a treadmill just under 5' x 3'4". I took a measuring tape with me. My treadmill should fit perfectly. I measured my boxes stacked too - about 4'6" high and about 9' long. In the unit, I looked up. These units are 8 feet high, so if you stack your things properly, there's a whole lot of room in a 5 x 10 unit. I didn't have to see any other units, but I did sneak a peek at some of the other sized units. People, you'll be happy with whatever unit you get. Different sizes on the different floors. You're covered. Before we head back to the office, Patricia shows me the lock - included in the rental. This lock is NOT a padlock..."Make sure this is pressed down, this is over here and this lines up with this. Then you put it there and turn it this way to open and this way to lock it." "Okay, Patricia." :-) It actually was pretty simple to figure out. Just another level of security that will put you at ease. We head back to the elevator and to the office. I formally rent the unit. I purchased the insurance even though I didn't actually have to. But what's an extra $10 to cover your belongings? Of course the insurance is on a scale, but it's very affordable and I think it's worth it. Papers (electronic) signed and emailed to me. I was done. I could move in my things whenever I was ready. Move In Day: The GATE hours. Some of the reviewers of the Orange location were annoyed by their gate hours because the gate hours are the office hours. But at ESS Bloomfield, you have access from 6am to 10pm Monday to Sunday...EVERYDAY. Now, I drove up to the gate and put in the code given to me when I rented the unit. "Hey, that's my name on the screen." Access Granted. I drive up to one of the spots next to the entrance of the building. I get started. I get one of the FREE available flatbed trolleys. I packed so my treadmill was the first thing to come out...that trolley was AWESOME!!!! Off the truck in a snap, stacked on some light boxes and rolled this almost 200 pound treadmill base through the doors. What do you know? It's Patricia giving someone else a tour. I pointed to the treadmill as she walked by and she smiled. She knew :-) Now, onto the elevator, up to my floor. Wait, it's dark. Step off the elevator...Oh, motion-censored lights. Lights on. Now we're good. Moved that trolley easily around the corner and down the hall. My helper and I lifted the treadmill up, tilted it a bit...Like a Glove, with 2-3 inches of space to spare on each side. The rest of the move was a piece of cake, especially with that trolley. Done. Into my moving truck. Around the corner of the building. Exit Granted. Gate opens. I'm driving away with the gate closing behind me. That was cool. Simple. A great experience for a storage first-timer I would imagine. Extra Space Storage BLOOMFIELD, NJ.
