Brandon sends me an email each time I have a package arrive and he's always more than accommodating with helping me transport heavy items. WARNING: DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! IT IS SUPER SHADY. We asked for the lowest price, international, with a tracking number. We were charged $95 for a USPS First Class package to Germany. (Takes about a week). It sounded steep, so we asked again if it was the cheapest option and we were assured by the manager that it was. Later that night, the more I thought about it, the more dubious it felt, so I decided to give USPS a call. USPS quote was $45. Yup. 50% more. We went back to the store today and asked why the cost was so high. The manager said 'that's just the price they charge' and he shows the computer screen and said 'look, it's in our system at that price.' We asked why it's so much more than at the USPS, and we showed the quote. That's when the manager said, 'Well, we have to charge a service fee.' We asked why the service fee is not written anywhere - not on the wall, nor on the receipt. We asked why it was never even mentioned. He said 'you think other businesses will tell you what their service fee is?' To which we answered, 'Yes.' He just laughed and asked where we're from. (Not like it matters, but my boyfriend is born and raised here and he said such). The manager simply shrugged and laughed when we asked if the service fee *really* was almost 50%. He said "gotta stay in business!" and smiled. What's even more atrocious was that the manager still did not come clean with this "extra" cost until we called him out. He then got very defensive and stated that "this is how NY does businesses" and "he needs to pay rent." I'm all for small businesses being able to survive. Had they been honest and straightforward from the beginning, I MAY have even paid the service fee (though likely selecting a lower charge category). But to charge almost double of the original cost and still pretend that that's the actual cost --that steps over the line from unscrupulous to outright criminal. Here's the picture from their screen and a receipt of what they charged us. Yes - it's almost 50% more. This place is a scam. I'm not sure how they stay in business, unless they rely on people falling for their tricks. Maybe it's a front. Who knows. BTW; for those who don't mind a 5 - 10 min walk, here are some of the DIRECT postal offices around them. It's not too far, so don't make the mistake we made :-) and it will save you an almost 50% in absurd hidden fees of what they are charging you for the 'convenience'! OUTRAGEOUS! BE WARNED. When my one-year contract for a P.O. Box rental was due to expire, Mailbox NYC charged my credit card a $600 renewal WITHOUT asking if I wanted to renew back in October of 2014. Visiting the store, long after I had stopped having my mail delivered, requesting the money be refunded I was routinely shooed away: "We've told our accountant, now you just have to be patient!" When I hesitated to leave, they continued about their business helping other customers as if I wasn't there. Eventually my visits to speak with the manager devolved into being told to "keep waiting" as-soon-as I walked through the door. 10 months later, I'm STILL struggling to get my $600 refunded. I love, love this place. They make my world so convenient. I use their mailboxes and it's great because for me it's very centrally located. They are also open on Sunday which is SUPER helpful to me, it also doesn't hurt that it's in a perfect Sunday brunch area. I can take care of business and then continue on to brunch. You know how important brunch is to us NYer's. Howard is great and Brandon is super accommodating. He is always helpful to help me out with situations. I can also print stuff out, copy and for those few random times you need to fax something (I know, who sends faxes these days? But it does occur) I can also do that there. I tend to travel a lot and it's great because I can call them and have them send me a package of mail to wherever I am. My building does not have a doorman so I get nervous to have anything delivered there. I love that anything can come to them. They will sign for it and I can pick it up at my convenience and it will be safe. I have been and will continue to be a loyal client. read more

Mailboxes NYC on West 4th Street in my view is a company that has great customer service, Always a friendly face. Always welcoming and helpful. I've been shipping art through them for months now. They've become an integral part of my eBay sales. The shipping of my sales is one of the most stressful parts, and with their help and attention, they've inspired my trust and loyalty. The owner, Howard, is a sweet, funny, well-intentioned man. Howard's staff Brandon and Michelle have become two of my favorite people. They laugh at my jokes. They're always warm and engaging. Super friendly, unless something goes wrong and your packages get lost. I've used this location for a dropoff for USPS packages for 3 years... twice a package has been lost, and both times, when trying to get help, I've been treated as if I did something wrong, and told that its basically my fault for shipping with USPS. Today, I was actually yelled at for even mentioning the fact that a package that has been lost for 2 weeks is finally out for delivery. Bummer, but I'll have to use a different dropoff location from now on. Update: After several harassing phone calls from the owner of this establishment, trying to force me to remove this well earned review, I stopped in to briefly discuss it, prior to (as was my intention) removing the post. BAD BAD BAD PLACE. This is my 1st yelp review and yet, I've rarely had a worse customer experience. I was accused and attacked, all over a returned package and a bill less than $25. Hire Jonathan full time. Make him the manager, promote him, keep him. Fire the other guy. Seriously. Whoever owns this place, if you want your business to survive, get rid of him. This is a customer facing service role and he is accusatory, aggressive, and rude. He made me both infuriated and somewhat scared. Here it goes... I went in on a Sunday because USPS was closed and I wanted to get my errands done. I asked on the phone if they shipped flat-rate priority USPS boxes. He said yes. When I went in he said I had asked only about priority boxes. I hadn't, but okaaay (it was obvious on the phone he wasn't listening and in fact I was somehow annoying him by asking a completely relevant question). I learned they only shipped priority (not flat-rate boxes), but because my box was heavy priority would be way too expensive. Then he offered to ship it media mail, which was only $5 more than what I would have paid flat-rate. I said fine. FYI, considering he asked and I told him the package was not any media-related, I have since learned this is illegal. Odd to advise breaking a law under any circumstances When I tracked my package I learned it was being returned. I stopped back in, talked to Jonathan (worker #2) who was confused why hi colleague would say it was okay to use a flat-rate box to ship with any other kind of postage. This is 100% not allowed and the reason my box was returned. He was very, very nice and proactively guaranteed a refund or reshipment. I went in after work when my box had arrived back in the store and the other guy was there. I explained the situation. He told me he had told me all of this and wouldn't give me my money back. I could buy another brown box from them and reship, paying the difference. No way. When I asked if I should come back when Jonathan was there, he finally agreed to give me a refund, but told me he remembered giving me like $5 off. I said that was definitely not true. (Everyone remembers a discount! Plus, he was just as rude the first time I met him.) He legitimately looked up my transaction by date and, lo and behold, saw that I was telling the truth about how much I paid. In fact, I had requested a refund for Less! As I was packing up, I said that, considering he told me only now that he knew there was a "50-50 chance they take these boxes" he should proactively tell that to future customers. (I mean, it's not exactly the point of shipping something to know that it Might get there.) He then amped the aggression up even more and yelled that I should drop the attitude and stop being a smart ass. He said "YOU even just said I did tell you... so you knew the situation!" Um, you told me TODAY, not Sunday when I shipped it. No one would be okay with a 50-50 chance of delivery. I realized I was talking in circles to someone who wasn't exactly keeping up, so I ran out of there, after promising a solid Yelp review. So there it was. I was accused of: -- Not asking the right questions (so my fault, even though they'e the mailing experts) -- Asking for a refund for more than I had originally paid (which was disproven) -- Knowing & accepting that there was a 50-50 chance it would get there (who would accept that?) -- Not being Thankful that he was offering a lower rate via different postage (despite it being illegal) -- And my favorite: "having an attitude" for asking for a refund and standing my ground. (Mind you, I am a mid-20s white girl, I wouldn't say intimidation is a strong point of mine.) read more

DO NOT GO HERE-- CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR. I used to have a monthly package-acceptance contract. After 1 year, when it was time to cancel the contract (I left the job I needed package acceptance for), the manager, Howard, gave me an exceptionally difficult time. I had to literally beg him to cancel the membership, after he actively intimidated me and accused me of receiving too many packages (something I had specifically asked about when I signed up for the service). I left his business rattled, but happy to put it behind me, no harm done in the end. Now, a year later, someone at Mailbox NYC charged my credit card with $1438-- I have not visited his business for over a year, and certainly did not give approval for such a charge. He essentially tried to steal $1438 from me. Completely despicable, do not support them. I also found throughout my experience that they overcharged for every service. This place is AWFUL! Our son moved to NYC for grad school, and we decided to get him a PO box here for sending him packages. They lost one package, and another was "miraculously found" after my son insisted they continue looking. Then they charged my son's credit card over $600.00 to renew the mailbox months before it was up for renewal, and without his permission! We have been arguing with them for MONTHS to get the charge reversed. The owner keeps saying that he told his accountant and that we need to be patient. Considering legal action. One package I sent from here never got delivered (was "lost" in the mail and never recovered - maybe USPS' fault) and another was 5 days late even though I paid for 2-day shipping. The people at the counter are generally nice, but whoever I spoke to on the phone was extremely rude and not helpful. That's why I'm rating 1 star. I will never go back. read more
