Also had to leave a review because the manager, Melanie, is literally the best property manager I have ever worked with about a storage unit, or anything for that matter. She was SO attentive, kind, helpful, and on top of everything. I was nervous about moving out of a storage unit for the first time and how the process goes (I didn't want to miss any steps or mess something up and be hit with a fee) but Melanie made moving out a BREEZE. I had a unique situation, too, because my storage unit was originally in someone else's name, plus I had some large things in my storage unit that wouldn't fit in my car or family's car. She explained everything to me and said she'll call me later before 6pm to touch base with me so I'm 100% set (she also had to make a few phone calls). She helped me resolve everything and if I didn't have to move storage units due to a work location issue, I'd still be here! We stopped by…read moreanother Next Door location and while the staff was friendly and helpful, their lot was pretty full and of the couple of spots available for our size, the fit was a little too tight for us to feel comfortable (also I should mention I wasn't fond of the area). Enter, Next Door Storage in Plainfield. We stopped in with little notice and were able to get all set up and have an entertaining conversation about the Plainfield area being the newbs that we were. A few months later we decided to keep our RV at our house and were able to pick up and cancel our contract in a matter of minutes. There was no fee to do this since it's all month-to-month and then when we wanted to put the RV back in storage a few months after that we were able to get a new parking spot with the same ease as before. I also have to mention that the staff is awesome! Everyone I've interacted with has been so sweet and helpful and just a joy to talk to. And the pricing is actually the best we've found in the area so that alone will keep us coming back.

(10x10) The…read moremanager was friendly and explained their policies and that they are generally not responsible for damage that could occur and you would need your own insurance. They rent on a month by month basis but there was an option to pay for an entire year. While the website says the types of payments they accept does not include CC the manager said they can but they charge the customer the CC fee they would be charged and they let you know that up front. The price is reasonable and it was stated that it only goes up yearly. So as of now I am quite satisfied with the place and a bonus it that it is only a mile a way. Despite what Yelp says about where I am located, I really do live in Aurora, IL

I can only speak to my experiences with Ken and his crew. I have done local moves with them and…read morethree long distance moves and they all were great experiences. Moving is stressful and has lots of moving parts. Sometimes things happen that are out of anyone's control, but Ken and crew work really hard to do a great job and get your things safely from point A to B. Couple thoughts: Yes.. Ken and his load up crew are from the Chicago area and are great. They are efficient, polite, hard workers and care about your things. The driver is one of this Chicago crew and was also top-notch. He was eager to drop off and return home so he did want to have us ready to meet him the morning after he arrived down here. Once down here, they local guys. And it's true that this end of things is less consistent. However, with both my move and my moms move the guys worked hard. Both times the local guys were not on time and we had to wait an hour or so for them to get here. They also were not as careful as the guys up north. But that is much more typical of your typical mover/ laborer. I will say, both times they did do a nice job of unpacking and it was important to have someone at the Florida end that was directing where to put things and keep time accountability. My husband coordinated the florida end of our move and a lot of boxes ended up in my garage. If I had been here that wouldn't have happened. But that is why it's important to label boxes with the room name and them expect the drop off team to take to that room. In terms of payment, local moves, they pay when finished usually based on hours of work and travel time. For long distance moves, I would have thought that it would be "pay when last items is dropped off" but Ken did ask for payment when loaded up. I had already packed my checkbook so I told him I would have a cashiers check down in florida. I'm sure some deposit is needed. In terms of change in price, they do figure in a 10% flex amount. It's based on weight and distance. You would need to negotiate that. I supposed one part of all of this is reasonable expectations. I have moved cross country 5 times (dallas-chicago-tampa-Phoenix-chicago-Sarasota) and BY FAR this move with Ken was the least stress, damage, and cost. Will there be little issues? Sure... but overall they were the best I have ever used.

It is good for all of us to know states regulate movers. Moving companies can lose their state number, and this company almost did by cousin (not online) contacting the Illinois Commerce Commission. A Mills was fax'd all details. They showed up with an extra mover than what was agreed. They tried to obtain full payment before leaving with furniture. They then tried to get more money from family members before leaving final destination. After my cousin complained to ICC, they immediately contacted A Mills. Then A Mills insisted my cousin accept some money in retribution. Good to know all states have some kind of regulation for not only moving companies but many businesses....maybe all.
