Best restaurant in Lampasas as far as we can tell. Still the food is mostly fried and heavy. The Jagerschnitzel with Spatzle was the best item we found on the menu. Bratwurst was very bland. Vegetables did come with the food which we appreciated. Basically, this is still Texas food, which isn't our favorite. The German twist helps, though. Staff provides excellent service. Definitely one of the least pleasant dining experiences I've had; the food was mediocre and the service worse. From the moment we got there I had a bad feeling about the place from the way the "host" (a disheveled, t-shirt clad man) rudely pointed at and ordered people to come into the restaurant amidst cigarette puffs when their tables were ready with commands such as "you two, come here." After being told our wait would be about 10 minutes, we were finally seated after half an hour only to have to wait another half hour before our food came out. When we inquired how much longer our food would be, we were promptly visited by the owner, not so that she could apologize, but so that she could lecture us on why we should be patient. When the food finally did come out, it was bland and underwhelming, though edible. Please don't make the same mistake we did by eating here. read more

An American Gastatte! They do schnitzels, wurst (sausages), and sandwiches. But they do them with an excellence not found in many places anymore. The interior ambiance is dated and a bit bizarre, but very comfortable and unassuming.The owners are friendly and make you feel welcome. These are world class schnitzels. I have eaten far and wide in this world and Eve's food can stand with them all. Did I mention that the salad was incredibly good and the deserts are really spectacular. A real gem off the old courthouse square. We had the schnitzel, bratwurst, and a kids cheeseburger. Everything was great, with "the works" schnitzel being the real showstopper. Having dined at a multitude of German restaurants from CA to PA and lots of places in between, this quaint little place in old town Lampasas is a treasure. This cafe is simple, welcoming, and a little eclectic with all of the puppets hanging from the ceiling. The aromas are wonderful when you walk into the place. This visit was my first. I came during lunch, and the place was busy. The waitress was friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. I ordered the paprika schnitzel with spaetzle and red cabbage. The meal comes with a tossed salad as well. I liked the fact that they have lunch and dinner portions. The servings are generous so the lunch portion was more than enough for me. The schnitzel was tender, perfectly cooked, and topped with sliced sweet red peppers. The paprika sauce was flavorful, although I prefer it a little more spicy. The red cabbage and spaetzle were good as well. I also took a piece of apple strudel home. It was delicious. All of the food was fresh. The restaurant was very clean. We stopped here on our way through central Texas and the food was delicious. We were able to sit out front under the overhang with our dog by our feet (well behaved of course). I had the jäger schnitzel and hubby had the kaseschnitzel. You get a lot of food with your meal, the service and atmosphere were great. My sister & I stumbled upon Eve's Café after we'd left another restaurant in town without ordering. Collectively we lived 11 years in Germany so Eve's was a treat. We ordered the Schnitzel sandwich & Pommes Frites... It was excellent! So excellent we had to order Apfel Strudel...simply delicious! The waitress was outstanding as well. After looking up reviews of cafe/eating places in Lampasas, we chose Eve's. What a disappointment. I have never experienced such SLOW service in my life. We got a table immediately, but from the time we walked in & sat down to the time we got our SALAD was over an hour. Our main plate arrived 15 minutes after that! A total of 1 hr & 15 min to be served. It was a Wednesday lunch time. We got there at 11:48 and walked out at 1:25. they were full and were certainly busy with their 30 or so customers. In the 1 hour and 37 minutes they only turned three tables of 2 - 6 people. And the really bad thing about that is that the food was NOT good! We ordered the 3 schnitzel plate because we wanted to get a taste of all. What we got was only the kaseschnitzel, but by then we didn't say anything, we were hungry and certainly didn't want to send it back! We also ordered a side of potato salad. The potatoes were hard, not cooked. The kaseschnitzel was not very good, tough and partially burned. And even worse, they gave the two of us a medium-sized bowl of gravy with no spoon. We had to hold the bowl and pour the gravy on to our plate, quite messy. I don't know where their five star ratings are coming from. Someone on an hour lunch break would not be able to eat there. I appreciate that the food is cooked when ordered, but it needs to taste good! read more

What a treat!!! If you are looking for a restaurant that is something out of the ordinary, local, and off the fast food track - Eve's Cafe is a must. Driving through, we asked a local store owner of good places to eat in Lampasas...he said "Eve's Cafe hands down....there is a line around the block on weekends." No wonder - the food is amazing. Skip the french fries (although they are good too) - go for the spaetzle - it is fantastically fresh, firm yet creamy. The house salad dressing is superb with FRESH dill on a salad of mixed greens - not the typical iceberg and sold-by-the-gallon salad dressing. Don't order the dressing on the side unless you want to drink it - it is that good. I had the weiner schnitzel (YUM); my husband had the reuben sandwich (LOVED IT) - good, Good, GOod, GOOd, GOOD - we will definitely be back. What a delightful restaurant to find on a long drive home. Approximately a dozen tables, the decor is meh but who cares. God Bless! read more
