I am always excited when I see that Check Point is coming to Rentsch brewery. We've visited for Oktoberfest for the past two years and food at Check Point is fantastic. The curry wurst is probably one of my favorite foods of all time. Everything we've ordered is delicious and I look forward many more visits in the future.

Small dining room with lots of cozy decor from Germany. Very welcoming atmosphere, from the time we walked in until we finished our meal and left. Probably the most authentic German food we've had in the US, we lived in Franconia Bavaria for four years in the 80s. Complimentary bread (also authentic) served when we sat down, and we could hear the schnitzel being pounded out in the kitchen when we ordered. Everything came out in an appropriate time, and our server was very friendly and checked up on us all the time. Even upsold us on a dessert (which we had to get to-go, as we were stuffed) by bringing the torte out for us to look at, hard to pass up after seeing it lol. Highly recommended!

It would've been great to sit outside on a nicer day. The food was great! We shared a bratwurst for an appetizer and had cucumber salad. Both were good but I only ate part of my salad in order to save room for the main event which was Jägerschnitzel and fried potatoes. They both took us back to our days in Germany. We hate that we waited so many years to come in.

The ambiance is marvelous! They have steins everywhere and the decor is pretty neat! I would love to come here during an evening to see how different it is! They had 2 staff working on a Saturday afternoon which is understandable! After a twenty minute wait we were seated and the server came and took our order. He was very nice and helped us order since we couldn't pronounce much on the menu. We got a decent amount of food for 4 of us! I got the Brie with cranberry sauce it was a 4 out of 5. I did not know it would be fried which is why I took one point away. My friends got the potato salad and it was delish! It came warm and was very flavorful! They also got a pitcher of Ratler beer which tasted just like juice! It was delish! My friends got the soup and the Reuben. All were pretty tasty! My husband ordered the Bretzel which was delicious. Then we got two slices of cake. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE BEE STING CAKE! It was divine and I plan on buying a whole one for my birthday! It has almonds, honey, Bavarian sweet cream and Bavarian sweet bread it is phenomenal! I cannot recommend it enough! Each slice was $7 but so well worth it!

A warning: If you eat Weinerschnitzel in Vienna, you will be ruined for life on most of the…read moreversions you find elsewhere. But I was stupid, and hungry, and ordered what looked like the specialty of the house at Eve's Café. In fact, it looked like what they called a Wienerschnitzel was the basis for all sorts of schnitzel variations with different toppings and gravy. That should've been an extra warning for me. To be fair, the description on the menu said that what you would get was a pork chop, and that is what I got. It was a little bit tough, which I suspected in advance, watching the people at the next table, sewing on theirs. The breading was weird in a way that's hard to describe. It was somewhat over-seasoned, a little bit hard, and left an aftertaste that was slightly chemical. An even worse sin by Texas standards, it was small, as in the recommended meat portion size for healthy eating, about the size of my hand, minus the fingers. My side of onion rings had the same breading. And even though I am generally a gravy hog, I didn't especially care for the brown gravy that came with my meal. The German dill salad probably had some dill in it somewhere, but it was all drowned in so much mayonnaise-based dressing, I couldn't really taste it, and the whole thing turned into soup before I finished. This all really sounds terrible, but it wasn't actually terrible. I ate all of it except for the soupy salad, but it just never rose beyond competent, when I had gotten my hopes up for some good German food. As I looked around at what others were eating, I really wished I had ordered one of the fabulous-looking sandwiches, burgers, or bratwurst. Those are harder to mess up. The restaurant itself has a nice location on the Square in Lampasas, and a charming vibe. The Thursday lunch crowd was good sized so it looks like a popular local place. The service was very friendly and pretty quick--maybe little TOO quick, as if my schnitzel might've been waiting for me under a heat lamp. Once I'd finished, I was still a little hungry, and considered ordering a slice of their Black Forest Cake. But I have had Black Forest Cake in Bavaria, and I simply couldn't bear another disappointment.

So this place was recommended, so I had to go. The restaurant is a small establishment, with…read morewonderful vibes. The inside was old fashioned, kind of a western twist. Any ways the waiters was friendly and welcoming. She took our oder quickly and brought us libations. The food looked good and tasted outstanding! The meat was soft and the brown gravy was on point. Furthermore the restrooms are super clean and roomy. Looks like there is only one cook, it might take a minute for your order but worth waiting for. Stay hungry my friends!
