This place is such a treasure in the smallest town I never knew existed! Parking was fairly easy to find and they did have a wait because of how busy it was! The wait is well worth it! The ambiance is marvelous! They have steins everywhere and the decor is pretty neat! I would love to come here during an evening to see how different it is! They had 2 staff working on a Saturday afternoon which is understandable! After a twenty minute wait we were seated and the server came and took our order. He was very nice and helped us order since we couldn't pronounce much on the menu. We got a decent amount of food for 4 of us! I got the Brie with cranberry sauce it was a 4 out of 5. I did not know it would be fried which is why I took one point away. My friends got the potato salad and it was delish! It came warm and was very flavorful! They also got a pitcher of Ratler beer which tasted just like juice! It was delish! My friends got the soup and the Reuben. All were pretty tasty! My husband ordered the Bretzel which was delicious. Then we got two slices of cake. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE BEE STING CAKE! It was divine and I plan on buying a whole one for my birthday! It has almonds, honey, Bavarian sweet cream and Bavarian sweet bread it is phenomenal! I cannot recommend it enough! Each slice was $7 but so well worth it! read more

5 Stars for the Buffet. It's a buffet so you gotta know some things are gonna be good and some not so much. I could take one look at the fried cod, chicken strips, sliced potato and Sweinbraten and tell you I wasn't gonna like them so I either skipped them or took a little tiny sliver of each to find which I might like. The rest was great tho, oh, and I skipped the Mac n cheese, that chicken strips and Mac n cheese is for the children.... My advice, get the Schnitzel and put Jaegersauce on it, get the Spatzel and put Sweinbraten sauce on it, get some red cabbage, kraut, potato salad and some brats with mustard and go sit down and eat. Enjoy. Skip the other stuff, it's all just for the children to eat who don't like the Schnitz Oh, and that Black Forest cake was amazing, and I don't normally eat sweats, and I ate half the thing, and I ate 5 schnitzel and 2 brats and loads of other stuff. First time to visit Walburg German restaurant and we went with a small group of friends on a Saturday night. We love German food so we were really looking forward to it. Would have been nice if we'd been able to eat any! The restaurant had what looked like two wait staff running their legs off for a huge crowd. We finally spoke to a waiter. He did not even give us menus and discouraged us from ordering. He said it will take at least an hour if you do. Just get the buffet. Soooo having no other choice we decide to try the buffet. Ugh. This place is wildly popular with the local people and I'm sure the food is good ( maybe?) but charging $24 for a buffet and then keeping it empty is really poor business practice. I ended up going through the buffet and got a wilted sad salad, would have liked to try the soup but there were no BOWLS, a few minuscule SHRIMP and some potato salad. There were at least six containers completely scraped empty. My husband nabbed the last bratwurst. We were there at 6:30 PM which I guess is too late on a Saturday night ???? Anyway I left hungry and angry. And will never go back. If my Sun City neighbors ask about my experience I would say DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Had a late lunch here today. The buffet was amazing! Fun atmosphere and good service. The woman who took care of me (I don't remember her name but she was blonde) did an amazing job taking care of me. Food was everything I wanted and she brought our drinks quick. Another table was being rather inappropriate and acting childish but she handled it with grace. The party a few tables over was ABHORRENT to her and incredibly rude and disrespectful. The management and staff did a good job taking care of the situation. I hope they don't comeback to this wonderful spot. read more

It was time for Oktoberfest visit to Walburg. The restaurant is my favorite German food in the whole Austin area and I needed my schnitzel fix! The ambiance is definitely old world which brings back memories from my childhood. The servers are super friendly and I see several of the same ones every time. I love the pork schnitzel along with the red cabbage and spaetzle. Always consistently yummy. I particularly enjoyed the entertainment both inside the restaurant and outside in the Biergarten tent. Waited 20 minutes to get seated. Went through the buffet and got our food, it was mediocre. We decided we were ready to go and kept attempting to quietly get someone's attention. So finally saw a young lady that worked there so I called out, "miss" after she looked our way and kept walking the other way, so I called out a little louder "miss" and was still ignored. So I called out... waitress, still nothing, then HELLO! To only still be ignored. After 30 minutes of trying to get our check, we paid and walked out. A man working there followed us out and asked us not to come back because we were rude. I responded with, all someone had to do was come over and at least acknowledge that we needed something. He then decided he needed to tell us that we were in the wrong for calling out to someone so we could pay for our lunch. He then proceeded with some profanity and called me a "fat ass". I waited tables for many years in my younger days and would have never ignored a customer whether I was waiting on them or not. This was the worst experience in a restaurant I've ever had. I had a great schnitzel sandwich along with the Dunkel beer. Both were fantastic and the service was personal and efficient. I'll be back to try more of their menu items I'm sure. I spent a couple of years in Deutschland and really appreciated the decor. Highly recommended! read more

We stopped by on a recent Saturday and we pretty much had the beer hall to ourselves. We are not buffet people so we were not disappointed that the highly rated buffet was not available until dinner time. If you appreciate authentic German food and beer then take the ride to Walburg. Throughout our visit service was fabulous and our server answered all our questions. Their Octoberfest beer was not available (coming soon) but there are plenty of additional German brews for you to choose. Yes, they have some traditional beers and wine options as well. We just ordered a few Apps. The Bretzel with cheese sauce and mustard was a great accompaniment to our brews. I really enjoyed the Schweizer Wurstsalat. This is a cold dish with thinly sliced marinated knockwurst with Swiss cheese, onions, and fresh bread. An interesting dish that I would order again. We plan to visit again once the weather cools so we can enjoy their beer garden and Wienerschnitzel. read more

Walburg German Restaurant is a very unique spot with a great setup. It has a Biergarten with a large tent, 2 stages for live entertainment (one inside and one outside), a picnic area, an outdoor bar and kitchen, and even an arcade for the kids. We accidentally came during their Oktoberfest celebration, and while they were clearly understaffed, I won't deduct any points for that--everyone was working hard to keep up with the huge crowd. We checked in and then explored the property while waiting for our table. We grabbed some German draft beers at the outdoor Biergarten and checked out the arcade. By the time we finished, our table was ready. Once seated, we had the option to order from the menu or go for the buffet. The buffet looked decent for the price, but we decided to order off the menu. My wife ordered the Pork Jägerschnitzel, and I went with the Sausage Plate. The food was hit or miss: The Jägerschnitzel was a bit of a letdown compared to others we've tried--the breading resembled a tempura batter instead of the crispy golden brown we were expecting. As for the spätzle, it was our first time trying it, and it tasted like cold fat noodles. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be, but it wasn't for us. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the Sausage Plate. Everything on it was delicious, though I was surprised it came with no mustard. I had to track someone down to get some, and it made a huge difference! The **potato salad and sauerkraut were also great. We had another round of beers while listening to live Polka music, which added to the festive atmosphere. The outdoor band was fantastic, and we would have loved to stay longer if we hadn't been pressed for time. The arcade had AC, which was a nice break from the heat, though the games were mostly older, typical arcade options. Overall, we enjoyed the festival vibe, and we'll definitely be back during cooler weather to spend more time in the Biergarten and try other menu items. I've been going here for more than a year and the more I've been going the more I enjoyed myself. When I walk in I'm always greeted by a smiling hostess (owner?) who quickly finds us a table. Since we're usually a couple or at most 4, we would typically be sitting at a large table with others. That's a great community feeling. Food has been solid and over time I've migrated to the buffet. It includes my favorite - the Schnitzel - which is one of the best in Austin's metro. I also enjoy the potato soup which is why the buffet is the best option and it's kept fresh. by small quantity restocking. The beers are cold and delicious and service is always friendly. Finally, the live music they have on the weekends make this a super special experience and lots of fun. Good German style comfort food. The outside looks old like it's been there forever, but inside you're stepping into a German style beer hall with a Texas twist. Walls of beer steins, musical and farm instruments. I kind of picture it as a place where everybody could have a good time. Started with a soft pretzel, which went well with the beer. Then onto the Reuben sandwich and a schnitzel sandwich for lunch. Both were very good. But if I had to pick one, it would be the schnitzel sandwich. Service was fast and friendly. Jill,our wonderful server, went way beyond in providing such personal services to assure the party attendees had a good time with food and drinks. Talking about the food, because it was a party, it was stipulated that we eat from the buffet. That was an excellent idea because the buffet had anything you wanted be American and/or German fare. The food was Hot and so delicious. Finally I ordered, in advance, from the restaurants pastry chef a German chocolate cake. Oh my goodness you could taste the love put into the cake. Had take-out Thanksgiving dinner today due to an illness and we could not make our reservation. The good: The stuffing was pretty good. The ham was good and the gravy was good. I don't like pumpkin pie, but I actually thought the pumpkin part was ok. The pie was covered in runny white stuff which I can only assume used to be whipped cream. The bad: The turkey was a turkey roll. The mashed potatoes were thick, no other way to describe them. I tasted the green bean casserole, the canned jellied cranberries, and the sweet potato puree. Gross looking and not good. I'd have to be desperate to eat it. When asked if the dessert was in the bag, the waitress said, no, it wouldn't fit. Had to ask them to let us have dessert which was included in the price. All this for $60, an automatic 20% tip was included, no way around it. Go to Cracker Barrel, you'd get all that for less than half the price. I know a lot of people like this place but the Thanksgiving Dinner left MUCH to be desired. I was glad that my company did not come in, I would have been embarrassed and very disappointed to bring them here. read more

I think if you're coming here, it's to get your drink on and the food is your last concern. I attended a large event here where the food was served buffet style. Nothing from the food was worth the $25/person I paid or the $10/kid. For the kids, the corn dogs came out cold in the center. The chicken strips were way too battered with barely enough meat. The adult options were so bland. The noodles were only worth half a bite. The schnitzel was nothing to rave about. I think the balsamic salad I had and the pineapple were the best parts of the meal. Oh and the cake we ordered as a separate charge. This place has the space for large events, but I'm not sure they are truly prepared for it. Disappointing experience this time around. We came in after the normal dinner rush yet it took 20 minutes for wait staff to attend to us (after we prompted it twice) and then 40 minutes to get food off the menu. When we did get it the flavors were fine. Food on the $22 buffet was mostly dry or cold or had just run out. I asked to speak to a manager but no one ever showed up. I'm not planning a return trip anytime soon. Two stars for cold beer and not wanting to completely dump on a local restaurant that has offered better experiences in the past. read more
