Build Your Own
Laura G.

I've ordered salads from here multiple times before via food delivery, but this is the first time I've come to order in-person. It was a very quick step-by-step process of choosing which ingredients you'd want included in your salad. I built my own salad and loved the toppings that were available. The dijon balsamic dressing never fails me. Overall, I came out with a very hearty salad that kept me full for a whole meal. The bread was also tasty, not too dry and not too heavy.

The customer service here is terrible. I even offered to speak to a manager prior to writing this review to understand what I was able to do differently as a customer to receive better service and I never received a call even though I knew that there was nothing I could do to fix what seems to be poor management, basic people skills and poor communication. They charge almost $20 bucks for a salad, which is amazing btw but they have no clue as to what please and thank you do for customers. Unfortunately, it's the times we're living in but when I asked to contact higher management to discuss the poor service which so many people in our city complain about with this place, the store manager looked at me as she saw a ghost and seemed like she had never heard feedback in her entire life. I then asked for the customer service information for corporate and the number that I was given was invalid which the manager stated was their customer service line. I wrote the email in the car as I ate my salad then decided to go back in and ask if the email was correct and requested the manager again and one of the employees went to the back to get her and she stated that she went home....which was ironic based on the face that I watched her walk back into the store as I drafted the email. I then went back to my car to search for a corporate number to contact and 5 minutes later the manager runs out of the store to her vehicle.......Strangest customer service I've EVER experienced to say the least!! So.....If you want a salad and NOTHING more, put on a pair of headphones, walk in and try your luck. That seems as good as it's going to get here!

Grand Opening Deals

I SCREAM FOR EVERGREENS! Okay, so apparently there already is an Evergreens Salad in downtown Bellevue, but it's only for those who work in the area, as it's open only during lunch hours on weekdays. Therefore, it is impossible for someone who works in Seattle (yours truly) to eat at the Bellevue location. BUT, Evergreens now has a second location in downtown Bellevue, which took over the former Jamba Juice next to Chipotle. This location is one for Bellevue visitors to enjoy, beyond the lunch hours. I came here for the grand opening and was one of the first 150 people to get a free salad! YASSS! I am a huge fan of Evergreens and usually eat at one of the downtown Seattle locations, so to have this in my neighborhood just puts the cherry on top. I can now enjoy Evergreens during the evening, weekends and so on. It's a welcomed addition to the area, lemmee tell ya! I ordered my favorite, the Spicy & Kale Caesar Salad, and added bacon and egg, which are free proteins! Unlike at the other locations, they do not chop up your salad, so when I asked about this, they mentioned that all the items are already chopped, to ensure everything is bite size. Good to know. Still tasted the same as always, so it was a win! In addition to salads, they have wraps and bowls with a quinoa base, and other healthy snacks and drinks like kombucha! Thank you, Evergreens, for opening a second downtown Bellevue location that caters beyond the Bellevue workers.

The Spicy Kale Caesar A.K.A the best salad @ Evergreens. The dressing is KILLER

They are served with chutneys as well. The bowls are typically fried basmati rice with a creamy tomato gravy overlaid with these exotic Indian fillings. You can customize your spice level (1-5) as well. They also offers no-egg options. We tried the Mutton masala, chicken masala and the aloo ghobi matar rolls. They do have a kiosk to place the order. The food was served very quickly. The rolls were really delicious. Though it may look small, but the portion is actually good. One roll may be enough. The tri-pod is a popular option, but that's an overkill. You may not be able to finish all. But if you want to try different rolls, that's a great option. It's a small restaurant, but seems to be popular. While we were dining in, so many customers stopped by to pick up their food. I haven't tried the bowl or the pav bhaji that day. Unfortunately, there was no option to specify the spice level for the paneer masala side dish, despite the restaurant description highlighting customizable spice levels as part of its offering. Because I have health-related dietary concerns, I called the restaurant immediately after placing the order to request a mild spice level. The staff member who answered was initially unable to locate my order, even after I spelled out the name multiple times, which significantly delayed the process. My husband later called and was able to get someone to find the order, but when I called back again to confirm the mild spice request, I was told it was too late to make any changes. I also had an earlier issue when I accidentally went to the wrong location and called for assistance. Rather than providing the Bellevue location's direct number or helping redirect me, I was placed on hold multiple times, which added to the inconvenience. While the food itself was excellent, the customer service and ordering experience were disappointing. Since the Yelp/ DoorDash ordering flow does not allow customers to specify spice preferences for certain items, I expected more flexibility and consideration when I called immediately after placing the order with a reasonable health-related request.

All the ingredients used felt like they were good quality. We ordered quickly and got our food quickly. The workers were friendly. There is a small eating area that is pleasant to sit at. It was pretty busy but didn't get very loud. I also bought a package of day old bagels for 50%, which ended up being $8. I had one toasted the next day and it was still very good. I thought that was a really good deal. There is a large parking lot behind the restaurant. You have to walk down either a few stairs or a ramp to get to the front door.

Extremely disappointed. I posted the above earlier at 3-stars, but I was too hasty posting before getting our food, expecting that even though the menu changed, the quality wouldn't. Sadly the bagel sandwiches aren't nearly stuffed to what they used to be and even the orange juice had extra pulp. My biggest complaint is still that there were no indicators in the store until we were trying to order. It is so frustrating to try to pivot when we're standing in front of the cashier with drinks in hand just trying to be on our way.

They have both great outdoor seating and inviting indoor dining as well. I started with a nice London Fog made with Earl Gray from Smith Teamaker. It comes in one size - large. My Mom got the Eggs Benedict with fresh dill which she enjoyed even though there was a slight hiccup. The English muffin under the eggs was over toasted and was very difficult to cut with a knife. But the staff was very gracious and remade the whole thing in no time. I got the roast chicken with goat cheese sandwich and my wife got the smoked turkey sandwich. Both come on bread they bake themselves. The fresh greens on both really elevated the sandwiches. DERU also has an excellent bakery case. We ordered a slice of the Coconut cake. Pro tip: don't stand in the long line unless you're ordering to-go. Find a table, scan the QR code, and order. Fun atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and genuinely good food. My main complaint? One bathroom. Rough. Deru Cafe has an extensive menu that covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with outstanding baked goods, pizza, and nightly dinners to go. The long line of cars outside speaks to its popularity. Last year about 1,500 loyal customers picked up Thanksgiving meals here, a testament to the quality of their offerings (and to convenience.)
