This weekend we visited Sea Grill for the first time. I was very impressed by the aroma in/outside the restaurant. The smell was very aromatic and we were very excite to try out their menu. The welcoming staff she was very friendly. The restaurant has different seating options for dining in. The bar, fine and standard dining, but we were not asked where we wanted to be seated. They also have a party/event area for reservation. The female restroom was clean and comfortable. There is no dress code. I would say formal casual to formal dressing, depending on your event. We were out on a date so we were formally dressed. The mocktail menu is limited, but you could ask them to make something for you. The complimentary bread and butter were very fresh and taste. We were planning on having two appetizers, two main course and one dessert. We ended up getting half of what we originally planed because our server was not attentive as much to us and had difficult time answering my questions about the menu. We order beer battered prawns and it came with salad and baked potato. The salad is crisp and the vegetables were so fresh and we got it with ranch salad dressing. The baked potato was average. The main course was very delicious and cooked properly. The prawns was fresh, large and seasoned well. The side sauté vegetables were salted and nicely cooked. We also ordered the crème brûlée. I think everyone should start their order with this dessert, that's how good it was! I honestly would not mind just coming here for the crème brûlée. It was made with perfection. Prime rib was so tuff we could not eat it. Owner removed it and charged me for the over cooked zucchini and luke warm rice. I am from San Diego and really looked for a nice restaurant to have Christmas eve dinner for my sister and I as we have not had Christmas together in 30 years. What a disappointment. I would have not written this review if she had not been so petty to charged me for my sides. I left hungry as I did not get a meal because someone does not know how to cook a prime rib. Expensive, BUT, my out-of-town family from Marin was paying for it. I had not been there in over 15 years. It was excellent food. The staff was awesome and attentive to your needs. I had sautéed scallops. The margaritas, were good but my homemade margaritas are stronger. I usually never want dessert, but their cheesecake was awesome. My girlfriend and I had our date night here. Our server was friendly but he spoke really quickly and was a bit hard to hear him over the chatter in the restaurant. We were in the mood for steak and seafood. They were out of the ribeye, which was very strange especially for a Friday night, so I settled for the filet mignon (medium rare) with veggie medley and a loaded baked potato. My girlfriend also had the filet mignon (medium rare) with veggies and fries. We started with the calamari, which was far below our expectations. It was a bit soggy and did not taste fresh. It tasted like it had been sitting in the freezer and was then microwaved and brought to the table. Our steaks were both over cooked and closer to a medium well temperature. We were hesitant to even pack our leftovers, but I opted to take the leftover steak home and repurpose it. My baked potato was a sad representation of "loaded" and was also very dry. Overall, sure, maybe I'd give Sea Grill another opportunity but it is definitely not at the top of my list and I would've given it a 2.5 for food but our server was kind. read more

Called in a few hours before and got a reservation. Very friendly staff. Good sized portions! Tried the clam chowder soup, super creamy, thick, and tasty. The small shrimp in it were a bit mushy but it was still good. Bread tasted warm and fresh. Salad was just a salad, but all fresh ingredients. We tried the snapper almandine with polenta cakes - well cooked, would order again. Also tried the Petrale Sole with the egg batter and potato. Well cooked, well seasoned, tasty. I will never go back. For the price, (and even if it was half the price) everything was abysmal. Server did not check on us. There is no part of the ambiance that suggests "fine dining" (except the price point). The veggies were steamed and unseasoned. The ribeye was BARELY seasoned and was ultimately rather tough/chewy despite requesting a medium rare cook. The manager was hardly assisting her overloaded servers. The drinks were watered down. The food came out in about 30 min, but our server forgot to put in our order which delayed it. The chowder was bland enough I'd eat that if I was sick (maybe). I will never ever go back. Go to tavern 1888, ambiance, service, and quality of food there is phenomenal (both on its own and certainly compared to this abysmal dining experience). Yuck Sea Grill!!! I am in between 4 and 5 stars for this restaurant. Ryan and I stopped for dinner here last month on our road trip down the West Coast of the USA. The staff here accidentally overcharged Ryan, so his card showed a charge of over $1,000 for our dinner for the two of us. Ryan's phone sent him a fraud alert before we even left the parking lot (our order was a to-go order), so he went back in and the staff had already caught their mistake and fixed it. This was irritating and slightly stressful for both of us. I sat in Ryan's old GMC truck, holding two bags full of hot food on my lap, wondering how long the food would stay warm, staring at a dumpster covered with graffiti that was located across the street from the parking lot of this restaurant, while Ryan went back in to this restaurant to talk to them about their error. He wasn't gone for more than 5 minutes and it all worked out, but I was hungry and annoyed. We found a lovely outdoor place to eat our to-go orders nearby, called Sequoia Park Garden. Ryan's Sea Grill salad looked wonderful, and he really liked it. My Halibut was okay, I hadn't had halibut in a while and I LOVE halibut and was really looking forward to it, but it didn't really wow me. There was nothing wrong with it, but there was nothing about it that seemed unique or special, and I felt it was a bit overpriced. I've had similar halibut dishes for less money. However, the Polenta Siciliana DID wow me - it was incredibly flavorful, still warm even after the wait and the short drive, full of a variety of healthy and yummy deliciousness, and just overall amazing! I highly recommend this appetizer if you are a fan of polenta. The service was okay, they were gracious in-person and they did fix their charge mistake before Ryan even alerted them of it, and the lady on the phone who took our to-go order was nice, but nothing really stood out about the service one way or the other. I am rounding up to 5 stars due to the amazing Polenta Siciliana appetizer and Ryan's scrumptious Sea Grill salad, but I didn't even finish my halibut. read more

I have eaten at the Sea Grill maybe two dozen times in the 5 years I've been in the Eureka area. Along with Larrupin, it is my go-to for an upscale dinner. I can remember one time out of the two dozen when service was so-so, and once when it was really bad, otherwise it has been quick, friendly, attentive and professional. The same for the food - once or twice it was not up to their usual standard, otherwise it has been a real treat. My favorites on the menu are the petrale sole, the snapper puttanesca, the scallops, and the prime rib, but more than half the time I order the special of the night and am always glad I did. As an added bonus they usually have Rombauer chardonnay by the half bottle, perfect for two if you have concerns about mixing alcohol and the drive home. read more

Every item we ordered was spectacular!! I was just expecting good food, but I really was blown away with the quality and how delicious every bite was!! Asian oysters with extra side of ponzu was amazing, best lobster I've ever had, crab cocktail was delicious, vegetarian polenta came with an extremely fresh salad that tasted fresh from a garden... and the sweet and spicy strawberry martini... it was all heaven!! Recommend making reservations in advance on a Friday evening since we had to wait a while for a table. Can't wait to return! read more

Made a reservation the day before and arrived on time. Waited 5 mins before anyone even noticed we were standing behind this weird huge flag they have at the entry. I walked around the flag so I'd be seen. Two waitstaff saw me and went about their way, not paying any attention. Finally, a host showed up and turns out our reservation wasn't even on her clipboard. She was able to fit us in, in a back table next to the restrooms. Also adjacent to a full table with Rep. Jared Huffman! Ha! Kind of cool. We ordered drinks. One of our party could not drink but wanted a martini glass to join in the fun. We were told they didn't have enough glasses. Are you kidding me!? When you're paying $40 an entree and $12 a drink, for a table covered in craft paper next to the restrooms, and they can't even provide a nice glass for lemon water? Buy a few more $1 martini glasses! Geez! We ordered a bunch of appetizers: polenta, seared ahi, clams, mushrooms, calamari. The polenta was melt in your mouth delicious. And seared ahi was really good. The clam chowder was extremely rich but there was no flavor of clam. Could have been a cream of whatever soup and no one would have known. I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Except it was charred on the outside. So the charcoal flavor was overpowering and kind of ruined the beautiful steak. So kind of a bummer. I wanted Daisy's Sweet Heat cocktail but they were out of the vodka, so I ordered The Dreamer and it was light and delicious. My second cocktail was Mediterranean Martini and it was strong and delicious. I also go to try the Smoky Gentleman and it was really good! Overall, it was a fun night out. Pricey but they do seafood right, and portions are large. And let's face it, there are a lot of places that do seafood wrong, so Sea Grill gets 5 stars, not to mention service is spot on. I've eaten here twice and both times have been surprised at how they know how to prepare seafood; I say surprised because I've been accustomed to being disappointed by the overcooked or off-tasting at too many places. First time there the waitress mentioned fresh wild salmon from Oregon with zero enthusiasm (maybe that's just their style) but my jaw drops and I have to order it. It was divine, some of the best salmon I've ever had, and a generous portion. Second time it was fresh dungeness crab cocktail; scrumptious crab cakes; ling cod, the filet perched on some amazingly delicious and cheesy polenta. Sides are decent (twice baked potato a standout), veggies are nothing to write home about. But you're not here for veggies. Bread is good but butter was a little weird as it seemed to fall to pieces rather than spread smoothly. read more

Just finished another excellent experience at the SEA GRILL. I had last dined there as the Pandemic was upon us so I waited to dine in again until I felt it was safe. Well worth the wait. The staff was excellent and the ambiance was warm and inviting. The owner (Holly) was actively working the dining room to ensure a great experience. The food, as usual, was superb. My server (Laura) was impeccable. What really blew me away was the busser Brigitte. That woman was incredible. Apparently the other busser wasn't there and she was handling all the rooms by herself. She was moving with Energizer Bunny energy but wasn't showing the least bit of stress; in fact, she took the time to make contact with all the tables in a smooth, personable manner. A great smile and a great asset to the business. Whatever she is being paid, it isn't enough. Can't wait to return. read more

Went for my birthday celebration and everyone was so happy! I ordered the prime rib and shrimp scampi combo with baked potato, cooked medium. It was perfect! We weren't able to get through on the phone to make a reservation but we took a chance and drove to the restaurant anyway. It was very busy but they were able to accommodate us. It is a beautiful room the tables are set with fine linens, silver and china. I liked the light fixtures and the lighting was subdued but it was not so dim that there was a problem reading the menus. The tables are nicely spaced apart so it is easy to have a conversation with your table companions. The entrees come with soup or salad. My husband opted for the salad as he does not like clam chowder. He tasted my chowder however and he said it was very good. For entrees I had the special of the day - petrale sole stuffed with Dungeness crab and shrimp meat. It was delicious. My husband had shrimp scampi. I had shrimp scampi at a restaurant the previous evening and my husband's scampi was far superior. The portions are very generous. For dessert we shared the key lime pie. Prices are fair for the quality and generous portions served. Katie was our server and she took very good care of us. Not only a charming ambiance but great food too! Walked in without a reservation and was immediately greeted and seated by the hostess who didn't seem to mind that we had just showed up. The rest of staff was excellent- polite, friendly, quick, helpful. We ordered fish and chips and snapper almandine, both delicious entrees that came with a soup or salad, bread, and vegetables. Fish was fresh and not overcooked. In terms of safety, every effort is taken to make the environment COVID-safe without compromising on the dining experience. Everything on the table is exchanged between patrons down to the salt, pepper, candle, and tablecloth, and patrons are asked to keep masks on when not eating. Tables are well spaced. read more

The staff is very professional and attentive. We will make reservations for our next visits. We walked in and were placed at one of two tables for parties that didn't have reservations. My wife really liked the chowder. The prime rib looked very good, and we would have considered if we were in a beef mood. My wife enjoyed the scallops. I had the Halibut, which was very good.
