I've never written a Yelp review before, but Estihana managed to deliver such an outrageously bad experience that I feel obligated to warn people. I placed an order on their website, got a confirmation, and was told it would arrive before 1:15 PM. When nothing showed up, I called at 1:20. That's when the excuses started. First it was "the weather," then suddenly "we don't open until 12:30," and finally--after multiple contradictions--the person claiming to be the owner told me they don't deliver to my address. That would almost make sense... except for the small detail that I've ordered from them before and they delivered to this exact same address without any issue. When I asked why the order was accepted and why no one called, the owner couldn't have cared less. His tone was dismissive, rude, and downright disrespectful. His attitude was basically: too bad, not my problem. A restaurant that confirms an order, gives three different excuses, changes its story, and then treats customers with that level of disrespect is not a restaurant you can trust. Estihana has officially lost my business -- and based on today, they've earned every bit of this review. read more

The stop to go is Estihana; I go there often with my cousin. My favorite dish is the steak bites with green beans--I can't remember the exact name--but the sushi is also delicious and every roll is perfect. The service was fantastic the last time I went; they promptly brought us everything we ordered and more. The restaurant has a pleasant, homey atmosphere, and while it gets busy, that's a sign of quality service. read more

There are great Kosher places all around Brooklyn, this place needs work. Those that have read my reviews know I hate giving a negative one. People forget bad food, but never bad service. I was very pleased with my meal here and was impressed with the quality of the food. We ordered the Thai Special Steak first. The string beans were cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of crunch. The steak was also very good, not too chewy. We also ordered the beef and broccoli. The sauce was very flavorful and it also came with a good amount of beef in it which I was happy about. Sometimes when I go to other places and order this dish, it is mostly broccoli and not enough meat. This was not the case here. Lastly, we got the chicken udon soup. The broth was flavorful and had delicious and crunchy veggies in it like sugar snap peas, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, carrots, baby corn, etc. There was a good amount of chicken too. My only complaints with this experience were there were barely any udon noodles in the soup and we were very late with getting our rice. We didn't get our rice until we were more than halfway through the meal. Other than these two small factors, I was pleased with this meal. read more

I've changed my mind and now rate this place 2 stars (and that feels generous). I won't be coming back. I ordered from here again recently and the food was downright terrible. Not a vegetable to be seen in the lo mein and the beef in one of the dishes was definitely off. It smelled wrong and tasted wrong and we threw it out after one taste each. Went here with my friends for my bday and it was quite bad. The sushi part of the food was not really edible. Other food was ok. Service was pretty terrible. It's a fairly small restaurant but it took a long time for some of the orders to come out, particularly the sushi ones. Would give this place zero stars if i could. Came here and the sushi was not good and it was hot.. why would sushi be hot. Anyways that was fine but then at the end they try to scam you. Firstly they show you a cheaper price on the menu and then upcharge and claim that they havent 'updated their menu'. Then they try to claim theyre doing us a favor because they hit you with a hidden fee of $25 minimum per person that they so graciously didnt charge us even though they dont disclose at the beginning. And then another way they scam you is by saying that they dont accept credit or debt without a fee. Just dont go here food is gross and they are literally scammers. Estihana catered my friends wedding - they are kosher and asian so it was a perfect fit. The sushi was delicious. The plated meals were good, too. Especially the "thai"-style steak with string beans. Estihana is where people go when they want to go somewhere nice with their kids. It's not a doting dining experience, the water is left your table so you can help yourself. Don't expect dressed up service going there. You should expect good food, a friendly ambiance, and relaxed service -and you'll get exactly that. The food is delicious. My favorite dish on our table, because of course I sampled what everyone had ordered, was the Orange Beef (may have been called Orange Peel). It was out-of-this-world-rocking-good. Our waiter (Asher?) was helpful and delightfully merry when he assured us that everything was "delicious" -an affirmation I could tell he repeats all too often. When we ordered the crispy shredded beef as a starter for the table, he suggested my sister order something other than the sesame (or was it the sesame?) as her entree due to its similar taste with the starter. this is the first time I had to ever return food. The manager and waiters looked like they could care less. I was looking forward to good kosher Chinese but ended up with nausea. The soup was bland and inedible, the scallion pancakes were sans scallions, The dumplings were still frozen in the middle -obviously not freshly made, the Noodle dish was drowning in some sort of sauce with raw vegetables, and the cooked sushi Was partially raw. So all in all, not only would I never go back to this place, even if they paid me, But for the good of humanity they should close this restaurant down. I'm still looking for a kosher sushi place to knock my socks off. Estihana almost made it to four stars because their sushi is a little better than the other joints in the neighborhood, but the wait time in store for pick up and waiter service is long even when they're not busy. My husband has ordered a few of their noodle dishes, and he said that they didn't taste that good to him (he's pretty picky about using fresh vegetables). I've gotten take-out from here, and the food was always excellent. So when my wife and I decided to go out to Estihana a while back, I was looking forward to a nice meal. The food was excellent, as I expected. No complaints there. The service, however, was lacking. It was slow. Really slow. At the end of the meal, I wanted to get the check, but there was nobody to be seen to ask for it. I looked around for our server, and couldn't find him. I finally walked up to the counter, and there he was - sitting on the floor behind the counter, kissing one of the waitresses! I mean, really??? I told him to bring us the check, and he did - with a 15% tip already added on! I asked for the manager, only to be told he wasn't there. I asked the server to remove the tip. He told me "It's our policy to add the tip." I told him I refused, and he said he couldn't charge me without adding the tip. I gave him my phone number, told him to have the manager call me, and walked out. I called the next day and spoke to the manager. I told him that I wanted to pay for my meal, but refused to tip a waiter who was busy making out with a waitress and couldn't serve his customers. He told me that they added the tip because too many of the staff were not getting tips at all. I wonder why that was? In any case, he charged me for the meal, without adding a tip. With service like that, I haven't been back since! I'm still giving 3 stars because the food was really excellent. But the service was horrible. read more

Food is 5* service was very good. But i think its expensive to begin with which is fine for great food. However enforcing 18%gratuity is obnoxious. I can understand when its a large group and overly demanding. But i was there with my boys for a night out treat. And the bill without tax was $67 the tax and tip came out to $18. So that my overall bill was $85. While the service was good, i felt that 15% was sufficient. I tried to pay $10 of the $12 tip but the manager said it was not negotiable and written on menu. I paid it. But i wasnt happy. And even argued that in the long run it wasnt a good business policy because people will more likely order out and not sit in because 18% was exorbitant and in the long run that would hurt the waiters. read more

Cockroach in the soup. First things first, let's get that out of the way. I know that's like a bad restaurant joke, and kosher at that (taste the soup!) but this was the furthest thing from funny. Right there, in our take-out pint of hot and sour soup, a full on cockroach. Floating around in there. You know the only thing worse than finding a cockroach in your soup? Is finding it after you've eaten half the bowl. I'm still twitching an hour later as I write this. Thing is, we've been Estihana fans for years (mostly the Manhattan location), especially the crispy beef (c'mon, who isn't). But even that has gotten inconsistent and sometime downright bad. But this was the final nail in the coffin. We will not be going back- I'm really not sure how you bounce back from something like that? read more

Today I went to their web site and made an order I ordered thai roll, Philadelphia roll and soup. Delivery was on time but I was so disappointed when I saw my Thai roll, I ordered from menu with pictures and descriptions, and it was with avocado and cost 7-50 dollars. When I got my order I was so surprised to see Thai roll much smaller and without avocado on the top, of course I called them, they said sorry you ordered for 7-50 it goes with no avocado at all, that one with avocado cost much more you got what you ordered. First of all they show the picture and price next to it, they did not mention the second price at all, this is kind of foolishness, it is not fair. So you get your one star for being not friendly and not professional, you made the mistake you should fix it. read more

Estihana is a family-style Asian cuisine restaurant. The food is simply delicious and the service is great. The family and I come here almost every Week and we love it. They are very friendly and accommodating! In regards to a previous review, someone had written something in regards to two servers, including one female server, acting in a certain manner at the front desk and how they complained about the "15%" Sevice charge. Seems that's an inaccurate review because Estihana Brooklyn only has male servers and they include a 18% gratuity. read more

My steak was served "medium" because the waiter did not understand that "well-done" is not the same as medium. The meat they call "steak" looks more like a hamburger in color and texture. Definitely the worst quality steak I have gotten at a restaurant. No side dish of rice served with this steak, I have no idea why. We did not see the waiter again after ordering. At this "fancy" restaurant you pour your own drinks, yet are still obligated to pay an 18% gratuity, to cover the non-existent service. This is the only restaurant I am aware of where when you ask for a dessert because you are celebrating a birthday they charge you $7.50 for two small scoops of ice cream.
