Came here for a drink and dinner with a friend and found the atmosphere to be very welcoming. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. I was impressed by the pork grinder. The meat was so tender and juicy and the flavor worked well. The potato salad was some of the best I have ever had, truly, you need to try it. Initially I was very excited for Establishment to move from Buckhead into Midtown, and more so once I saw the cool patio and great decor inside. Unfortunately a little too much Buckhead attitude came with it. First off, they play their music way too loud during happy hour time during the week. I get on Friday night you want loud music, but when it's 630pm on a Tuesday I want to be able to hear my companions without shouting. Even the waiter agreed that is was too loud when I asked him to turn it down (which thankfully they did). Second, they need to indicate on their beer menu the size of the glass they'll be using. Sure, I don't expect Chimay Blue to come in a pint glass, but I don't expect Bell's Oberon to come in a snifter. Just add the ounces or put an icon of the glass next to each beer. Third, about half the restaurant is open seating, including the entire patio and the front half of the restaurant. A few times I've came in there has been some confusion on who is actually our waiter. A table next to us left when they didn't get served for ten minutes. A lot of people enter through the patio area off 14th Street, so it would help with confusion to have a host or some signage. The main entrance is fine, but many people don't come in that way. I haven't had enough of the menu to judge the food , but I hope Establishment can make some positive changes to improve the experience. The food (burger) was fine...not great. The chips and queso app was tasty. The service was weak. Even though I arrived well before 5pm and the restaurant/bar was quite empty, service was slow. I ordered a light beer that came room temp. The server said he could pour it into a chilled glass to 'cool it off'. I said no thanks and ordered a cider instead. After a wait, he returned to say they were out of the cider. I settled for Diet Coke. Upon finishing dinner I asked for the check. Be aware that there is a 20% gratuity already added to the bill. Of course there are suggested 'up-tip' amounts above the 20% one can add but 20% is the minimum. I reviewed the bill (it was correct) and the server ran my charge card at my table using a portable device. He asked if I needed a receipt and I said yes (fortunately). The receipt indicated a different amount than my bill due to additional items I had not ordered having been somehow added. Had I not asked for a receipt I would not have been aware of it. Now the fun begins...after considerable fumbling and checking with multiple co-workers, he brought me back a new bill in the correct amount. I asked to see a receipt indicating the original/incorrect charge had been voided since it had already been processed. He claimed it was voided but the system wouldn't allow him to print the correction, yet he was adamant I sign the new corrected bill. I asked him how I could be sure I wasn't being charged twice since the first bill had already been processed but he provided no evidence it had been voided. He assured me it was handled correctly and if there is 'any problem', I could just come back and they will correct it. Sure enough, I checked my online bank statement when I got home and, predictably, the incorrect invoice had already posted (the one he claimed to have voided). There has been no additional corresponding posting voiding the incorrect amount nor offsetting the overcharge. Like I said, the food is fine if unspectacular, but, the service and lack of managerial oversight made for a very unenjoyable experience. Unfortunately, I can't help thinking the overcharge to my original bill wasn't accidental since the portable card readers are 'dumb terminals'. read more

We had a cheese plate last night at dinner and it was one of the more terribly thought out dishes. All the cheeses were extra sharp/poignant, there was dinner bread (not crackers), and all of veggies were pickled. SO salty with really no sweet, light components for balance. They did not complement each other at all. 4 beers, one cheese plate and a salmon dish was $100. Highway robbery. If I'm going to spend this much on dinner, there are better places to do so. read more

Met up with friends here on a Friday night and it was initially hard to find. The address in Uber led me to a different restaurant and it was after asking the hotel next door that I learned it was the small path that went to the restaurant. The space was way too loud for me. I couldn't hear my friends sitting next to and especially across from me. The menu was limited and the peanut butter hummus dish I ordered was nothing special. Was hoping to try their frose but was told that was sold out; ordered a different drink but it never came. My friend ordered after me (because her unfinished drink was rapidly taken away after she stepped away to the restroom) and got hers when I asked and the waitress says oh, and almost immediately brought it over - pretty sure it was just sitting at the bar getting watered down as the ice melted -_-. The photographer roaming around was pretty rude (why was there a photographer anyway??). He had taken a photo previously of my friends without asking and had come back over a second time asking if we wanted a photo. We said no, and he replies that "well, the last one I took, your mouths were open and it's going up anyway." First of all, we didn't ask for one, nor did he, and he definitely let other patrons review their shots afterwards. In addition to this, my friends saw desserts being delivered to tables but didn't see any listed on the menu. We asked the hostess for the dessert menu and she said they didn't serve desserts (ummm, what?). Then we asked the waitress and she tells us they do but just not on the menu. My friends explain to her what they had seen floating around and she was not able to match the description to any of their options (hmmm). So we just ordered one that sounded like it could be it. When we got it, it was super frozen so we decided to let it sit and melt a bit. After all that, it tasted like a store-bought Carvel ice cream cake, womp womp. Let's just say, we couldn't get out of there quick enough. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Saturday on a summer night, rooftop bar and good music, how could it go wrong? Completely understand that Colony Square is undergoing a major construction overhaul, and that you will have to walk all around the corner in order to find the stairs to the entrance. Keep in mind that when you first walk in, it is right by the bar and not the normal entrance where the hosts/hostesses are. Ordered a drink from the bar - whiskey ginger beer. As easy of a drink order, but it was watery. Kitchen closes at 11:00 - their kale & artichoke dip was really good, the pita was really fresh. Tip: sit on the rooftop because there is an extra breeze. The area in between the rooftop area and the inner section does not have good air ventilation. Surprisingly this middle ground area is hotter than others, so be warned! Be careful/wary of the rooftop area, especially the area close to the wall. We found two giant cockroaches roaming around close to our table/party. I am not the best around bugs and tried not to make a big fuss out of it, but was definitely not expecting to see them roaming around. read more

I went to Establishment a couple of times during COVID (pre vaccines) and half of the bartenders weren't wearing masks (and some were not wearing them properly) and the service could be rude. The cocktails were good and being able to sit outside was nice but it felt all very lawless and COVID just was not taken seriously here. Then I went back again a couple of times post vaccination so the lack of masks and all of that didn't bother me. The cocktails here are really good, but the service is so horrendous. I have watched several people leave because they are unable to order a $14 drink. The food is OK, honestly not awful but not worth coming in just for dinner. If they got a less indifferent and more attentive team this place would be great. read more

Food: My food was delicious. I started with the kale salad which came in one size, but my server offered to give me a starter portion for half the price. I really appreciated that (but I still took down the full portion). All of the vegetables were really fresh and crisp. I might have liked a little more of the peppercorn ranch dressing, but no complaints. For my entree, I had one of my southern favorites - shrimp and grits. Despite the fact that I probably get this dish a few times a year, I still don't consider myself an expert on them. This version of shrimp and grits (like every other version I've had) was delicious. There was some type of creme zigzagged over the top so be aware of that, but if you like shrimp and grits, I'd recommend. Service: Polite, attentive, hip. My only complaint, and it's a legitimate one, is that they served me my entree well before I was done with my salad. This has become a pet peeve of mine and I don't see it going away anytime soon. Atmosphere: This place feels more like a lounge to me than a restaurant which I was really not excited about at first...because all I wanted was a good meal. But it's very comfortable. Exposed wood tables. Large bar to the right. TVs to the left. 90's hip hop playing in the background. Miscellaneous: While I certainly enjoyed my food, I'd like the menu to be a little larger. I was looking at having a rehearsal dinner hosted at the Establishment. I spoke to David multiple times and told him I would be coming in to meet him and see the space. We agreed on the date and time. When I got there, I asked for David, explained to the host who I was, and yet David completely dismissed us. Didn't come over, didn't acknowledge us, nothing. After an hour went by, he walked by me and I said hey David we want to talk to you. He told me "I'm busy I'll be back later". Mind you, when we came in he was drinking a Starbucks coffee causally talking to some one. Another 30 mins later we just left. I was expecting to spend at least $3k at this place but after the way David treated us- I'll spend my money elsewhere. Got here and the owner (or manager) told the host they are out of two things on the menu. We were seated and out of a 7 items on the menu they were out of 3. I came here for a meet up. There is a large outdoor patio with reserved and non reserved options. I'd recommend making reservations. I only had two drinks and they were great! Wowwww so great! My girlfriend and I went here for her birthday and our waiter gave us on-the-house tequila shots. Honestly the smoothest shot I've ever taken. Beer - change frequently Prarie bomb chocolate stout abv 13%. Very drinkable Stout it taste like a 7% this is the second beer company I tasted out of Oklahoma that has been pretty awesome. I rarely give one-star reviews, but the service and staff here was pretty awful! My two friends and I came from NY on a girls-trip as two of us had never been to Atlanta before. We came across this restaurant en route back to our rooms at the W hotel (which was basically next door) after a Saturday night of partying. When we got here the security guard checked only one of our Ids then got distracted by a girl and her friend who were leaving, so the rest of us just walked right in. The place was pretty empty with just a few sprinkle of ppl and a small after-party bridal group. We sat at the tables in the center of the bar area and waited for menus and for someone to come for our drink orders. Despite having three ppl working behind the bar area (that no doubt saw us), NO ONE EVER CAME! After sitting and talking for about 10mins, I went to the bar and asked for a menu. At this point my other friends were already kind of pissed off and wanted to leave, but I convinced them to have a drink since we were already here. The drinks here are strong but very over-priced for what they are (and I'm from NY). While having our drinks we were happy enough in each other's company and thought maybe we would order another and just stay in this weirdly unpleasant environment until we felt like walking back to the W next door. As we sat talking the manager started loudly playing good-bye/closing music to the point that the songs were unrecognizable. The manager was even displaying some rude motions, jokes and basically shooing and SHOUTING at everyone to leave while he and the staff laughed amongst each other. At one point he had a megaphone/mic of some kind and was making jokes and telling people to leave in the most rude vulgar manner. As we had enough and made our way out, we were accosted and harassed by a clearly overly-intoxicated guy right in front of the entrance where the security guard was standing but talking to other ppl so he clearly didn't care. As nice as this place looks, I would never go here or recommend it to anyone. The only decent person the whole night was the female bartender who made our drinks and who was engaging, friendly, and pleasant (I felt bad for her that she had to work with such buffoons!). The manager (a guy w sandy blond hair) and other bartender/servers on staff that night seemed like big drunk frat boys who couldn't be more crass and rude. I really hope the owners look into how this place is being managed. They seem to need a gutting of staff, managers, and work on a new service plan or start all over! read more

Worst and most expensive drink ever. I just ordered a Rum Runner. I think it's a pretty common drink but the bartender ask me to repeat it four times!!!! Anyway I should have known it would be a bad outcome because she measured each component of the drink as if her life depended on it. She poured what was essentially only a third of the glass in actual drink and filled the rest with ice. I even said "that's a lot of ice". Anyway I was shocked when she said the bill was $18 !!!! For a simple Rum Runner!!! Plus the drink was awful. I think I got three sips and it was gone!! Establishment - the good, the bad, and the ugly! The Good- Establishment offers a fun environment with inviting staff and an excellent bar scene! If you are in the mood for a crafted cocktail, this would be a good place to start the evening. The Bad- The space is somewhat industrial and is very loud! If you are wanting a cocktail and an intimate conversation - this is definitely not your spot. The Ugly- No amount of friendly staff or awesome cocktails can overcome bad food. The food here was awful!! Uninspired, poorly prepared, and below what I could have made at home. Very disappointing considering how cool the rest of the place seemed. We started with a peanut humus - the veggies were carelessly cut and nothing special (although the humus was tasty). I had the kale salad and added salmon - the salad was nothing special and the salmon was cold and seemed as if it had been prepared the day prior (the consistency of canned fish). I could have made the dish as I had all of the ingredients in my refrigerator - except my salmon would have been grilled to perfection, served warm, and added wonderful flavor to the dish. The cold mushy glob of yesterday's leftover fish was just awful! The veggie pasta dish was not any better! Go for the drinks - save yourself from the food! read more

I love the vibe of this place .i came for drinks on a Thursday night .For parking the colony square garage or the garage in the scad building. They had tables inside and out with space heaters. Based on other pictures i would like to come back for dinner. The seating is a wide variety of booths , tables, couches. I did try some wings which were sweet teriyaki taste definitely a nice shareable item . The atmosphere was pretty legit; however, I'm not sure what we did (apart from not being a part of a larger table) to warrant virtually no attention throughout our entire evening. As someone who has worked in the service industry and with someone who has served for years, it boggles the mind that a server could be so inattentive that, despite the location, we've vowed never to come back. Seriously. What does a guy have to do to just get his check. I ask, 30 minutes into waiting for an opportunity just to make eye contact to signal that we're ready to just pay you money that we're not sure you earned.
