We had dinner at SM44 before a theatre performance, and while there were a few things I appreciated, the overall experience felt inconsistent and not quite aligned with the upscale image--or the upscale pricing. To start on a positive note, the Christmas decorations were lovely. The space felt festive and welcoming, and that initial impression set a nice tone as we walked in. Our host was all smiles and positive throughout. Things became less smooth during the initial drink service. The host asked if we preferred still or sparkling water--similar to what you might hear in Europe--but both options were bottled Saratoga water and carried a charge. Tap water wasn't offered at all, so our "choice" of still water ended up costing $12 for two bottles. It felt excessive and completely unnecessary, especially since regular tap water would have been perfectly fine. Another unexpected moment was someone taking our photo at the table without explaining why, only to return later trying to sell it to us in a frame. That kind of solicitation felt more like something you'd see at a theme attraction, not an upscale restaurant. My NY strip was cooked well, but it didn't include any sides. When I asked for A1, I was given their house-made steak sauce instead, without being told it carried a $5 charge for a tiny 2 oz portion. The salmon was $35, the strip close to $50, and even the kids' mac and cheese was $20 despite being made with gruyère, which wasn't exactly appealing to our 8‑year‑old. We kept the meal simple and didn't order alcoholic drinks, yet the bill still came to $175--and it automatically included a 20% tip for our small party of three. That's something I'd normally only expect for groups of six or more. There were also a few small but noticeable issues: our table rocked back and forth and wasn't fixed, and some of the flat‑panel TVs on the walls were displaying random computer text instead of anything intentional. It made the space feel a bit unfinished. I know Chef Willie has cooked for celebrities in the past, and there were elements of the meal that were enjoyable, but overall the experience didn't leave the best impression. With more transparency around pricing and some updates to the atmosphere, SM44 could better match the upscale experience it's aiming for.

Spectacular spot for special occasions! I visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday, and the presentation of my meal was magnificent--the taste and tenderness of the tomahawk matched perfectly. The classic Mac and cheese was good too. The serving size was so generous that I enjoyed it for three straight days. The seasoning was perfection. Everyone in our party of six enjoyed their meals. Valet parking is available, but I parked directly across the street in a paid lot. I'll definitely return for the speakeasy experience. Be sure to check out this restaurant when you're ready to splurge.

Absolutely great experience! As I walked up, I was greeted and the door was opened by a gentleman in a black suit. I was sat immediately. There was no wait for my other party and we added an extra plus one at arrival. Very accommodating. The waitress was very friendly. She introduced herself, asked questions and answered any questions we had. There were three of us. We ordered the tomahawk, Chilean sea bass, Brussels sprouts, broccolini, bread pudding, fondue dip, fried mushrooms, blueberry Mai tai, and agave old fashion. Everything was amazing! The steak was brought out and cut in front of us. There were displays happening at several tables as well. After dinner we went downstairs to the speakeasy. We enjoyed shots that came out on a tray with lights and smoke! Great presentation. I believe there is valet but the lot across the street does not play with the fees be prepared to not park there or pay up front to not have overpricing. The food and experience was so good I didn't get many pics.

This was nothing less than a great evening. The had outdoor, bar, main, and upstairs seating. We sat upstairs with a party of 7 so it was more private. Our waiter was great as well as the bartender as I arrived early and started there for happy hour. The drinks did not disappoint and nor did the food. From the appetizers to dessert everything was well plated and delicious. I had the branzino and it didn't stand a chance. Started with the ponchatarian oysters they had a lil spice but were great. The valet is $25 which isn't posted anywhere and 20% gratuity is included on all checks, but service was still up to par so no complaints.

The restaurant is very cute! It's perfect for any occasion, date night, girls or guys night out, or business meeting. The staff was friendly and helpful and the service was quick without making you feel rushed. So to get into the food, everything was perfect! I didn't take pics of the seafood fondue but that was stellar, much like the Brussels. The Mac and cheese needed a little more pepper and it would've been perfect! The lamb chops have a nice kick so be ready for that. My cousin has the fried fish and she said that wasn't seasoned well but the collards and cornbread that came with it was amazing! The price point is what you'd expect but it's well worth it!

Food, service and ambience was all delightful. The oysters were a highlight, as were the steak and the crab fondue dip. I also loved the guava vodka old fashioned and my girlfriend really enjoyed the hibiscus yuzu marg. They played some great tunes during the meal and i thought it was actually very reasonably priced for such an upscale and delicious meal. One of the best steaks Ive had in a while, great chimichurri as well. I want to go back and try the desserts

    Sea bass

Celebrated birthdays at SM44. The ambiance and decor are very grown and sexy. Perfect for a date night or adults only dinner. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and the food. Coincidentally we all ordered seafood. No one ordered the steak. But the sea bass was the clear favorite. Someone next to us ordered the prime rib. Plan to go back and order that next time. Definitely worth a try. It's not just a pretty face, there's (food) substance behind the glitz and glamour.

I went here to celebrate my friend new job and my other friend moving to Atlanta and I'm glad I picked this restaurant out now I will say a little bit pricey, but if that's how you roll definitely do what you do best let's start off with the service, which was amazing our waitress did a lot for recommendations and I trusted everything that she stated, and we tried everything pretty much on the menu. I will say there was nothing that I did not like I even liked the lobster mac & cheese and I feel like a lot of people in Atlanta can't can't make mac & cheese, but this was amazing and I will get it again. I think overall it was a beautiful environment very cute. I love the fact that they take photos and let you purchase them. The speakeasy was pretty small and smoky so did not stay in there at all. We pretty much walked in and walked right back out but overall, I will do it again if I wasn't paying.

Don't believe everything you read on social media. I saw a great video on social about this place so I decided to try it, even after reviewing the menu, pricing and location. I really try to support black owned restaurants. Unfortunately, this isn't it. The food was subpar. Service below average. The only thing I'd come back for is the drinks. This is definitely not high end or fine dining. This is 1/2 a step above a club for 21-25 year olds. A definite NO for me in the future. By the way, this IS NOT a black owned establishment! They lied. Sorry.

We were there celebrating our engagement, and they made it feel so special by decorating our table with rings and confetti to celebrate our love. Our server gave us so much attention and made the experience feel personal. Since it was our first time there, they took the time to walk us through some of the best items on and off the menu, and shared their favorite dishes. Everything was done with care. The restaurant was clean, the bathroom was amazing, and the food was worth every dollar. The short rib was so tender, and the New York strip was seasoned to perfection and cooked medium well just how we like it. The twice-baked potato loaded with bacon, sour cream, chives, and cheese was delicious, and the mac and cheese was so good. I also appreciated that they allowed me to order it without the roasted saltine crackers. I can't wait to visit again!

This is my second time here and both times have been so good. We came as a party of 3 and left so happy and full. I love Mexican food holy moly We got the queso and octopus shrimp ceviche as starters. The queso was 3 cheeses: American, cotija, and Oaxacan. They heated it up under a salamander so it was nice and crispy on top, while being gooey all throughout. Also came with a couple of nice salsas. The ceviche was not my favorite because I don't prefer raw(ish) octopus, but the squid ink sauce was very flavorful. For our mains the 3 of us shared the red snapper, tuetano with lamb, and the mixteco poblano pepper. Red snapper had a nice charred smoky flavor from being grilled. Was more meaty than flaky in texture. It was our second time getting the mixteco poblano pepper and it hits. Highly recommend eating with some of the salsa as well if you get queso. The duck carnitas in it wasn't particularly duck-y today, but still very good. Best dish is definitely the tuetano. The bone marrow is so incredibly flavorful with the blue corn tortillas. Add some of the pickled onions and it's hard to go wrong with that flavor combo of salt, fat, and acid. if you're going to order one thing, I'd order this and share with a friend and tbh it's enough to be filling. For dessert we got the volcan de chocolate (basically lava cake). The lava cake and coconut ice cream combo is fantastic. You get bits of coconut flakes as you eat! Fair warning it isn't the brownie texture you may be used to, it's a bit more cakey. Amazing service the whole night! Almost got our cars booted because we forgot to validate until 1.5 hours in but luckily we were fine. The staff let us know they have been booting cars though so be wary!

We kicked things off with a couple of incredible Mezcal cocktails that were perfectly balanced and full of flavor. A huge shout-out to our server, Oscar, who made the entire experience even better. He was attentive, personable, knowledgeable about the menu, and provided the kind of service that keeps you coming back. The ambiance deserves just as much praise. The music, décor, and overall atmosphere created a sophisticated, grown-and-sexy vibe that made it perfect for a relaxed date lunch. It's one of those places where you can enjoy amazing food, great cocktails, and simply take your time. Casi Cielo has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite restaurants. Our daughter spent the first few minutes waving at the staff, and they genuinely lit up every time -- such a warm, welcoming vibe right from the jump. Starters We kicked things off with the she‑crab soup, and that's when we knew the meal was going to be special. Tons of rich crab flavor and chunks of crab. The crispy shrimp toast was another hit -- crunchy, savory, and a great pairing with the soup. We also ordered the Baker's Dozen oysters, chef's selection. All 13 were fresh, clean, and briny in the best way. Next up: the Spanish octopus, and honestly... top five octopus dish we've had. Cooked perfectly -- tender, melt‑in‑your‑mouth texture. The salsa macha added just the right amount of heat, and the marcona almonds brought a great crunch with the cilantro, lime, and mint brightening everything up. What a beautifully composed dish. We finished with the Halibut and Lady peas. The Halibut was topped with lobster and served with a lobster butter sauce, chives, and capers. Rich, buttery, flaky, and perfectly cooked. The lady peas (fava beans, asparagus, and a generous mound of blue crab) were another standout. So much flavor, but everything complemented each other instead of competing. One of those sides you keep looking for more of when it's gone. --- Overall Every dish was thoughtful, balanced, and executed at a high level. Over the years we've seen things decrease especially at the optimist. The hosts were great and they always give us great service but the food had been the lacking the last couple of services where the she crab soup lacked crab, the swordfish over cooked multiple times. This time in particular we ordered the whole lobster and was offered to have it taken out of the shell for us. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND. When we got the lobster we got a full tail but one claw and no knuckles. When we addressed with the server, she argued with us that that's how a lobster is and that there could be more meat hidden on the plate. It felt like she thought we were there to just get more food by saying "so what do you want, more meat" but if we had it in the shell we would have received our full portion. The manager on duty tried to make it up to us by comping the lobster but it was more than that. After going back and forth with the server we just wanted the check to leave. The manager on duty insisted to give us the lobster and take it home. The server wasn't very polite and argued with us about the lobster. I wish I remembered the servers name With that said, the amount of money we have spent there over the years, it's unfortunate that that will be our last time going to the Optimist.

Still charged us for it, though! We finished our waters with the appetizers, but no refill until specifically requested near the end of our entrees when our bar drinks were a no-show. The fries are always my favorite. Not today! They were all stuck together in a mass and chewy, almost like they had been reheated a few times a long while ago. My prime rib was fine, my husband's usual order, a ribeye, was not good. The outside of the steak was tough, but raw in the center, and tasteless. Double-cooked? This was very disappointing, as we have tried almost every steakhouse in ATL, and this has always been his favorite. I specified on Resy that it was a birthday dinner - no mention of that, either.
