We went here to celebrate Valentine's Day as I saw online, the place looked amazing. Location: was very easy to find however, there are 2 restaurant / lounges in 1 so they share a parking lot. Parking is $20 and $21 if you have to use a card. Definitely a turn off BUT the staff were nice. Once inside: greeter was amazing! Actually, all the staff were really nice. Even the owner herself came out and was very nice. The place itself was nice, but I was expecting warmer lighting like online and it didn't give the sleek, and sexy ambience. It gave, Pinterest idea coming to life on budget. Not over, not completely under. But on budget lol Nonetheless, color combos were beautiful and the seats themselves were very comfortable. The live performer did come out but she had to work her way through both the restaurant, the lounge, and karaoke I believe in the back. Now, the reason for the 3 stars - there was just not enough staff and this is truly just a tip for the owner. The staff were AMAZING. Lovely, friendly, knew their menu. Everything was perfect. BUT to have 2 servers on Valentine's Day weekend serving two restaurant/lounge establishments seemed impossible. I didn't get water until 22 minutes later. And the food took about 1.5 hours. I got the jackfruit, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. Food was good - but that wait time was just unfair to customers. As a new restaurant, it would probably be easier to have the restaurant or the lounge open at one time and then stagger the other. Or close one during certain hours. I'm not sure but it didn't seem to work well. And it's unfair to the staff because they were super nice! I did love that the hookah and drinks were on the lounge side so you weren't being absorbed with smoke - this was definitely a plus! This restaurant is absolutely stunning!! The decor and ambiance is everything and has very nice spaces and comfortable seating. We sat on the restaurant side but there is a lounge side with dj and hookah which I loved they had separate spaces for this. The service was great from the hostess to our server and the management team. We ate mostly light here due to a large lunch and most of us got appetizers. I wanted to love the oxtail empanadas but the corn bread crust honestly killed the dish for me as the oxtail inside was great and the jelly it comes with is tasty. I ordered the bottomless mimosa....had to send the drink back twice because it was all juice....there weren't even any bubbles in the glass. This was my second visit to Unknown and I'm not sure if I will be back. I wasn't particularly impressed with the food during my first visit but tried it again as some friends wanted to visit. First I will say that the decor is beautiful. It is well decorated and has a sexy vibe. Everyone was very nice. From the valet to the servers, I had no complaints about service. The taste and quality of the food did not match the standard set by the rest of the experience. I ordered the fettuccini with salmon and it wasn't very flavorful and didn't offer a creole "kick". My friends ordered the braised ribs and while they said it was good in the moment, they complained about stomach aches the next day. Beautiful place. Because of how early we got there, I am not able to review the service and how they would have done under the pressure of multiple guest. My husband and I were the only patron in the place. Our waitress was great but the service was slow to say we were the only ones in the place. The Caesar salad with shrimp, which was drowned in dressing and a little bitty knife to cut through it. While the utensils were cute, what salad should come with a steak knife. Additional dressing was given on the side, but it was not needed. The salad was tasty though and the shrimp was a little over cooked but okay. Next, the Cajun Crab Claws; totally overcooked and for the price was not work it. We are from New Orleans and thought the cajun spice was going to be there, yeah naw. It was more oil than anything. Third Oxtail Empanada with the pepper jelly. That Jelly hit so hard, I started putting it on everything. The empanada was okay, perfectly cooked, but lacked flavor. Horrible Experience ! This was my second time coming and both visits were disappointing. The service was aweful! I came for a Birthday Dinner with a friend (8 party reservation) . The valet was $5 which is very reasonable. I was the last person to arrive. As soon I sat that down. It took about 15mins for the waitress to come back to the table and get my drink order. All drinks came at the same time. I ordered an old fashion. It had no cherry, no garnish. It was just ice and cherry syrupy bourbon. We were all ready to order. When she dropped the drinks off. (Which I informed her, since we had a party of 8) so we can go ahead and get food in by the time where done talking/ socializing etc. She said she would be back. 15-20 Minutes later she came to take the order! I ordered the royal Griot lamb. It was chewy and seemed to be cooked Well Done. We had a table of 8 and I saw 1 bottled water on the second side of the table. 1 bottled water for 8 people is wild! I asked for regular water. She stated they only have bottled. My other friend ask for just tap water from the faucet. She brought 1 cup. He immediately said he was thirsty and would need a bigger cup. She brought out a small plastic bottled water. Most other restaurants have a standard to keep water glasses filled at all times! Water should not be an issue to a restaurant of this caliber. I had to flag to the waitress down again to get our checks. She said she would be back (15mins later ...) It was only 6 other tables the entire time we sat there! So it wasn't busy. The gentlemen that brought our food and the guy who grabbed our empty plates were extremely nice and professional. It was auto Gratuity. So about a $60- $70 tip. It should have went to them. They were great! ( Get the Simple things right!) They brought out a birthday brownie for our friend it was dry. We asked for another round of drinks. We couldn't find the waitress. We didn't know her name because she never told us. She had braces. We asked to speak to the manager at this point. The manager had on jeans and a green T-shirt. The only reason I knew he was the manager is because I complained about the service to him from my first visit. We addressed all the issues with him. He seemed to be sincere and apologetic. So we were at ease. He said he would give us free shots. I had stacked all the cards and checks because we were ready to leave. He stated the waitress would get them. The waitress came to ask us what free shots we wanted. I asked can she take the "Stacked" checks that had all of our cards on them. She said she would be back. What!!!!!! Maam where are ready to leave!!! 15 mins later she came back. No free shots in hand and came to grab the checks. Again it was only 6 tables where has she been all night. We had to flag here down several times. We took pictures with the birthday girl and our waitress walked by and literally rolled her eyes at us with a snarling look. I was shocked. I asked my friend, did you see that? "She said I surely did" So it wasn't just my observance. We left and never even seen the "free shots" from the manager! (We didn't care about the shots, it was just a principal gesture of we apologize and care about your business. That simple gesture would have me come back. But again we never even got that!!) They do not take discover cards. I could understand that. It would be nice to know that BEFORE I start ordering food and drinks. There's no card tap machine option to offset the discover card issue. (I didn't have any other physical cards on me) so I had to Apple Pay someone at the table to pay for my meal. We are really reasonable people at restaurants, because we understand there are different variables but the BASIC THINGS. Water , stating your name, checking on your table, putting in the order fast because a large party will take time ( especially if they all are ready!) , fixing the issue with a comp and never even getting the comp shots, and taking our checks so we can leave promptly are things that are easily manageable. Honestly I generally never leave a bad review of this caliber for a newer or Black owned business. It gives off a dark but sultry vibe with the colors, wall art and lighting. It's a perfect place for a date night and of course girls night. There were 14 of us, split between 2 booths. Might seem odd splitting a party like this, but because of the layout it wasn't bad. I enjoyed my food and drinks. I had the short rib lasagna and the deviled eggs for my app. I've had better deviled eggs in my opinion and 3 half pieces certainly wasn't worth $18. I opted to have them without the caviar (I'm not a fan, don't judge me). Likely that's the reason for the price. Most of the party enjoyed their food, I think there were a few who wasn't super impressed. Also didn't like that there was no tap water option, only $10 liter bottles. The service was great. Our waiter was attentive to us and extremely patient. The live music was super nice, the saxophonist serenaded my friend with a song! There were also burlesque dancers (did I mention this was Valentine's Day weekend). The entertainment was nice to watch and added something extra to the experience. The restaurant does charge an entertainment fee per person ranging from $5-$20. We were all charged $5. Parking is valet only and I believe it's $10 plus $1 if you pay with a card. The experience at Unknown for my birthday dinner was a let down, especially after booking their $75 prix fixe menu. Now, let's talk about the champagne situation. We were ready to raise our glasses and celebrate, but when it was time for the toast, they could only find four glasses for our group of eight! It took nearly 20 minutes for them to track down more flutes, and when they finally did, they didn't even match the original ones. Then, we waited an hour for appetizers to come out. And the complimentary champagne they had advertised? That never made an appearance. And where was the live band they promised? We chose this place specifically because the manager confirmed there would be a band playing on NYE. They played music from the speakers until the DJ arrived at 10pm. Our dinner was scheduled from 7:30-9:30pm. The main courses made a grand entrance at 10pm--past the scheduled dinner end time! I was grateful that our table was served at all especially since some tables around us were getting refunds and leaving without a single bite. To top it all off, when I tried to bring these issues to the attention of the manager, May, I was met with a lack of customer service. She seemed disinterested in resolving the issues and was nowhere to be found when we needed her help. While I did manage to enjoy my special day with friends (because let's face it, good company can make even the worst of dinners bearable), I think it's safe to say that Unknown will not be getting an invitation to my future celebrations. read more

I had never heard of this restaurant. Went for a bday dinner for a friend. Parking is valet. We had reservations but I don't think they were required. We were seated quickly and we didn't need the entire party to be present. There was an awesome live band. The drink names were really sensual and cute as well as the decor. There's also a full bar just in case you want something different. Ordered the crispy chicken, the chicken was seasoned to perfection. The grits and collards had no taste at all. I was very disappointed. There was no saving them with salt and pepper. It was odd that the chicken was so flavorful but the rest wasn't. The chicken was also very tender. This is a new location in Atlanta that's trending. I was excited to go to celebrate my friend's birthday (he's not a cheap date he reminded me)! The location is tucked away on Cheshire Bridge Road (upper Midtown/Buckhead) which is a transitioning neighborhood. It's been a questionable area for years but this place delivers once inside. The decor, seating and lighting was outstanding. They designed the place to accommodate entertainment that's able to view from any table and the built-in speaker system. There's a band that plays from 6-9 PM with a saxophonist that walks around. They were great but it's pretty loud and hard to talk over it. That was a huge downside. Our server was really personable and helped us get familiar with the menu. It changes seasonally but best sellers usually remain. We ordered appetizers, dinner, cocktails and a received a free dessert for the birthday boy. The tab was over $400 for 3 people which included a $15 entertainment fee. Is that $5 per person? Valet is $10 to park (add $1 for tap or cards). ‍ Overall, the experience was very nice. Service was decent considering it was very busy on a Friday evening. They bus the dishes quickly & food came out fast. However, the food was just mediocre. It was overpriced to me -- but perhaps this is the Buckhead way? He was extremely informative and patient when it came to recommendations and menu questions. Food: The deviled eggs were more savory than I expected but really good! Our cocktails were pretty tasty but not too strong. The brisket was good and tender, but the taste got tiring halfway through. As for the red snapper, it was nicely cooked and the smoked mashed potatoes were my fav!! I do wish we were able to sub for Mac and cheese as I seen many reviews saying it's good. Just keep in mind you can't sub that item, you'd have to buy it separately. Also, that key lime pie was perfect, not too sweet and not too citrusy. Ambiance: The inside is reallyyyy nice!! Came here because it's new and I saw online that they have live entertainment. When we arrived parking was free and plentiful because the place was empty. I guess it's still too new. We enjoyed our food. We ordered a few different items but the top picks were the deviled eggs and the seabass. We didn't care for the crab cake. The lasagna was also good. We came on a Thursday and found out there was no entertainment. It would be nice if the posted an entertainment schedule online so people know when to come. We were a large party of 14. We booked under two parties of 7 to try and help with the "paying situation" at the end of the night. Atmosphere is beautiful. Restaurant is gorgeous on the inside. Drinks were sub par. Tasted more like sour mix and or juice versus any liquor in the drinks. Some people within our party didn't like their drinks but the manager wouldn't let them be returned or replaced at first but he eventually let someone swap their drink for a shot since he wouldn't let her take it off the tab. Food was decent in flavor but cold. Would've been better if it was hot and not room temperature like it had been sitting out. A few items that were ordered were not liked and the manager said you can't send back any food, exchange it or take it off your check. The manager told us NO. Mind you no where on the menu or website does it say you can't send back food nor beverage items so the lack of care or respect for the customers experience is beyond me. When it came to paying everyone in my group of 7 sent me their money. But then i realized I didn't have my card so I asked could I use tap. He responded they don't have tap but earlier in the night he told us they take tap, card or cash. So I asked to tap and he said we don't have tap then proceeded to say well if your tab was under $100 you could tap but not with a large party over $100. So what's the difference in paying for $100 or more on tap? If I were going to dispute I can do that whether I tap or use my physical card so I don't understand as a business manager owner whatever he is do you want the payment or not? Then the manager Moe proceeds to belittle the situation and ask does no one else have a bank account? But if I send the money to somebody else it would be another fee to send the money. So I asked how to rectify the situation and asked him if he had Zelle and if I could Zelle him and he said yes. Long story short. For us to be 1 of the 3 tables in the entire restaurant on a Monday night. 30 min plus to get our alcoholic beverages when there isn't a bar even visible so I guess they make them in the kitchen or who knows what. Easily the worst restaurant I've been to in Atlanta. After waiting 30 minutes, our food came out cold and tasted awful. The waitress had zero training and couldn't explain anything on the menu. The staff pretended to clean but it was clearly for show, and there were no other guests except my table (which should've been a red flag) at 8:30pm. The automatic gratuity was outrageous, and the manager showed no sympathy when we raised concerns about the bill. To make things worse, the food gave me food poisoning later that day. Two people at my table even paid over $50 for a single drink on the same table which is crazy. Only thing that was nice about the restaurant were the gentlemen doing valet and the decorations. My friend had a family and friends gathering on Sunday. It was about 15-20 of us. Of all the restaurants in Atlanta with a large party on Sunday it was frustrating. First, a 40-50 minute wait for a single drink, especially when the restaurant wasn't busy, is definitely unacceptable. I think we were mainly the only ones in there at that time. Secondly, the food was, at best, mediocre. It is to be expected that if you have a bad experience that you will share that experience with others in an attempt to spare them the same horrid experience. Visiting this restaurant over the weekend was exactly that a horror. Reservations were made in advance through the OpenTable app. This restaurant does offer valet for $10, however the valet person helped himself to an additional dollar making the valet total $11. The overall ambience of the restaurant is very swanky jazz vibes. The live band was just beginning to start for the night when I arrive at my 7 PM reservation. The hostess sat myself and 1 guest at the most undesirable table available inside of the building. The bar doesn't have any bourbon that is a great disappointment. The second conflict with cocktails is that their most expensive appetizer $85 named a Taste of the Unknown is also the exact same name for their house cocktail. The cocktail consist of Syrup and purées and a splash of tequila. Upon ordering the cocktail, the waitress misinterpreted the request and brought the $85 appetizer to the table. Once that matter was cleared up, entrées were ordered and the night continued. The band was amazing other guests looked to be enjoying themselves. The food I ordered was the sea bass with crispy okra and potatoes. The portion size of the fish was the same size of a deck of playing cards. The crispy okra consisted of one okra pod, sliced into strips, not fried not crispy but more or less a garnish. What made this experience so absolutely awful was the unnecessarily long wait to retrieve my vehicle from valet. Three men were working the valet. The ultimate insult and disrespect was to not only have the overwhelmingly putrid smell of marijuana in my vehicle but also to have no gas in my car. I informed security of this he asked my name and reservation time. I gave him those details I have yet to hear from the restaurant about this matter and for that reason alone, I could never go back.
