So that's that... The latte tasted good, the food was decent, i got my sandwich w some tortia chips. Nothing spectacular. The environment and the service were just ok. Espresso Love is a great place located in the heart of Downtown Boston, with great breakfast, lunch, and snack options available for the professionals working in the area. Where Espresso Love goes wrong, though, is its customer service. I just went to the cafe for coffee and pastries and one of the cashiers rolled her eyes because my group was taking some time to figure out what we wanted (mind you, we were the only customers in the place). This isn't the first time this has happened. While Espresso Love remains one of the 'go-tos' for my office, my coworkers and I agree that the customer service is less than superb and could use some improvement. read more

Stopped in here and had a late lunch - husband and I split a Chicken Avo BLT (chicken BLT with avocado) and it was delicious! It was $7.99 and came with some perfectly crunchy and salty tortilla chips. Chicken was grilled and delicious. My husband was raving about it. Great portions in the sandwich, too. Staff said that all the food served is local and organic which accounts for the semi-high price. It's in the city though and only slightly more pricey than a Panera or other chain cafe. Also, gave us tap water in a cup with no complaints or anything. Friend got the Mac n cheese and it looked delicious- had ham in it and bread crumbs. They close at 6 normally but were closing at 4 this week for holiday hours and we were there until about 4:50 without any complaints or stare downs by staff. (We came in a little before 4 but their holiday hours weren't posted so we weren't aware before ordering.) Great place! read more

This is a little piece of the Vineyard in the heart of downtown Boston. Their breakfast sandwiches are tasty, fresh, and affordable (under $5). Their lunch sandwiches, while delicious, are pricey for the amount of food you receive (although on-par with other specialty sandwich shops downtown). Pastries are fabulous, and the service is fast and friendly. The brewed coffee is roasted to a medium depth and has a balanced acidity. Their espresso beverages are rumored to be delicious. Only complaint is trying to get a sandwich or bagel in the AM... their turnaround times vary drastically... probably somewhat expected given the time of day and the buildings full of hungry bankers that swoop in around 9:15. Still, it'd be nice to see them add an additional staff member on the line to clear out the backlog of breakfast orders. This coffee shop is a workhorse. Consistent quality and solid service. I would say they serve the 2nd best iced coffee downtown. It's just a slight notch below the new Japanese coffee shop, Ogawa. I tried their food for the first time today and it was perfectly satisfying. I had the sunrise breakfast sandwich. Egg, cheese and bacon on an english muffin. But here's the rub. They use pepper jack cheese, giving the sandwich some spice. I like that kind of thoughtful twist on an old classic. Come here if you want a reliable alternative to Starbucks and Dunks. read more

The food at this place is fantastic, and the coffees are absolutely great. However, I've never experienced service so consistently bad anywhere else in my long history of eating out in the financial district. Three times I've been sent home with the wrong biscotti (of only two flavors available at any one time), twice I was sent home with a cookie instead of a scone (or vis-a-versa), once my breakfast sandwich was completely lacking in the main ingredient, and once the cashier didn't put my order in for 10 minutes because she failed to notice that my card hadn't run properly. Today, I observed them give one person's sandwich to another woman, who left with it and had to come back to get the one she had in fact ordered (all the while the woman whose sandwich had been given away was waiting patiently for 20minutes to collect her take-out order. Suffice it to say, the service is awful. And yet, I must be a glutton for punishment because I keep going back for their breakfast sandwiches, lunch specials, and afternoon caffeine kicks. read more

This is my go to lunch place in the financial district. Everything seems to be freshly made - pastries, sandwiches, soups, mac & cheese, salads, quiche, and even casseroles! Their daily specials are creative and definitely worth checking out. I usually tend to lean towards the salads, but the few sandwiches I've had are delicious - especially the Chappie! (Chicken Salad on toasted 12 grain bread) Occasionally, I'll grab an Americano with my lunch and have never been disappointed with the quality. The espresso is much better than the chain options in the area. Oh and the pastries! The heath bar cookie is dangerous - I have to stop myself every time from getting one. The scones are also delicious, as well as the coconut cake! If you can afford a calorie spurge, it's definitely worth it! read more

They're allergy-aware and have gluten-free bread for their sandwiches and gluten-free baked treats as well (although they make gluten-free, dairy-free items more rarely). For those who can indulge, like my office-mates, the baked goods are amazing, not like the standard commercial products in the area. They also have a short list of home-made specials every day for lunch, unlike the commercial fare in the area. Don't let the lines scare you - they move quickly, and the baristas remember your preferences. Espresso Love has been my go-to place for lunch for a few years now. Unfortunately, it has gone completely down hill in the past month. I usually order the soup, although I've had a lot of their other items--all very good. 3 or 4 times in the past month, the soup has been completely watered down with no flavor at all. I finally sent them a message and they apologized and said that they would mention it to the cooks and offered me a free meal which I did not take them up on. So, hoping that they would go back to making it the way they used to be, I went in the next day and purchased another soup. Ugh! It was so salty I couldn't eat it. That is not the way to make it flavorful! I'm guessing that they were running out and kept adding water instead of making enough to get through the day. Two days in a row, it was ridiculously salty. Now let's talk about the biscuits. They make these fabulous biscuits (albeit very small) to go with the soup. For the last 2 weeks, they have been out of them every day. I get all of these excuses about them being very busy and it's cold--well guess what? MAKE MORE BISCUITS! It is now soup season!! So today I go in and order chicken corn chowder. Again, no biscuits--they ran out. I waited as every customer that was there before me and after me grabbed their orders and left. I thought they were doing something behind the counter (cooking the chicken or something??) A guy who appears to be a manager type was behind the counter the whole time, and as he was the one who waited on me, I assumed my soup was coming. Finally, another guy comes on shift and asks me what I was waiting for so I told him. He thought I must be waiting for a special order, nope, just the corn chowder that was on the menu for the day. So the manager-type guy says "what can I get you?" And I said that I was waiting for the soup that I had ordered at least 12 minutes ago. He apologized and I said that I had had too many apologies lately and I wouldn't be back. I seriously gave them at least 10 chances. So now, I guess I'll have to go back to Au Bon Pain with the even more watered down soups. It's a shame, they used to be really good. read more

The food here is very fresh and there are many items on their menu. Everything from big burgers too delicious vegan fare. The coffee is merely okay in my opinion. I don't come here for the coffee and pastries. The lunch is exceptional ranging between 8-10$. Also very, very filling. So another new Financial District: eatery/coffee shop has opened up on Broad St. They come and they go and it's a tough niche to occupy successfully for any period of time, the competition is tough out there. I popped in here for a sandwich at lunch time and was served quickly and with a smile by one of the cashiers, the smile was quickly wiped off my face, however, when told the price - 11 bucks for a turkey club is on the steep side. (I mean even Bailey and sage on State St doesn't charge that much) So after a couple of minutes waiting I get my lunch in a little brown bag and I head back to my desk. There is a satisfying heft to my sandwich as I walk back - this thing is weighty! As sandwiches go, it was absolutely fantastic, and I would recommend it to anyone. Good quality ingredients in huge quantities, so much so that I doubt anyone other than Julia Roberts could actually eat it without the aid of a knife and fork. It was tasty, very very tasty and substantial so full marks for the food. I can only give a 3 out of 5 based on the pricing. This is an expensive sandwich, as a treat every now and again it's ok, but as a regular lunchtime option it's just a few dollars too pricey. Let's hope the prices don't eventually turn everyone away as the food is very good. read more

It's hard to argue with high priced items set by businesses when, in the end, they are selling a product they've taken the time and effort to make themselves. I guess at that point it becomes "artisanal". Which is exactly the reasoning I've used when I order the iced chai latte from Espresso Love every so often. It's $4.16 for a small 16 oz. iced chai latte. That's pretty expensive for just a morning drink. But again, it's delicious and I don't mind paying a bit extra to support the time, effort and quite frankly the talent that it takes to make such a well made spice blended tea. Hold it. It's not what it seems. Espresso Love isn't blending all the spices, or even steeping the damn tea. They make their chai drinks by putting ice in a cup, pouring a 64 oz. jug of chai concentrate over the ice and then pouring milk over those, which I witnessed today. That's the time, effort and talent that I'm paying $4.16 for. Hmmmmmm. Am I being screwed? I THINK SO. And the worst part is that they call this the "love" you're getting as a customer. I haven't been "loved" like this since that kid kicked me off my bike and rode away with it when I was 12. People of Yelp. Don't get it wrong. I am no snob. A chai latte may sound snobby itself, I know. But I have a friend who grew up with this drink and eventually got me into them. Point is though, I would be a more than happy to drink a chai latte made from Tazo, Tipu, Third Street or some other pre-made concentrate. That's not "below" me in any way. But if I'm getting that product, charge me accordingly. What a rip off. Are they serving Dunkin Donuts coffee too and charging their premium "fresh made" price for it? I mean come on. They're making about a 400% profit on the drink I bought this morning (which is based off of rough math, which I was liberal with in terms of giving them the benfit of the doubt). That's just too much screwing-over for me. No thanks. They were at about a 4 1/2 star rating before this discovery. Their b.s. business practice brough them down to the 2 star. I make it a point to go here once a week. I absolutely love this place. The Turkey Club is easily the best turkey club I've ever had and maybe even one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've turned a bunch of people at work on to the Turkey Club, so much so that we've instantiated a Turkey Club Tuesday where at least 5 of us head down there for Turkey Clubs. I always get the iced latte as well which is great and while the price seems a bit high you're paying for high quality deliciousness. read more

At my company we have lunch catered in by clients 3-4 days a week. That being said, I have experienced my fair share of lunch options for office lunches in Boston. We were recently sent a lunch from here and everyone was delighted. The BLT's with turkey smell and taste heavenly. They are not overly loaded with condiments and are still sliced small enough to be able to gracefuly eaten during a lunch. The dessert tray is also a real treat! No more dried out oversized cookies for us! I would recommend anyone catering an office lunch to use Espresso Love. read more

I was both surprised and excited to see that Espresso Love expanded from the Vineyard to the Financial District. While it's hard to recreate the relaxed, easy-going ambiance that EL creates on MV, I give this place 5 stars for being a quality breakfast/lunch option. The food is just as great as what you would find in the original location. There are creative bagel/veggie options for breakfast, delicious baked goods (the health bar cookie is a favorite), and unique sandwiches. I recommend the Chilmark for a tasty, filling sandwich. Also, there are enough chairs to provide adequate seating during the busy lunch hours- perfect for a casual work meeting or for meeting up with friends. read more

Breakfast: - Love Blend coffee is what i get every morning. Strong & very balanced - Scones are to die for, and you get really hooked on those - watch out!!!! Pastries are fresh baked every day. Very often you can get lucky to get those right from the oven. - Breakfast sandwiches are good. Avocado tomato & cream cheese on a toast or a bagel. Lunch: - Great selection of sandwiches & salads. They also have daily specials, Blue Beast, i believe is one of my favorites! Roast beef, caramelized onion, gorgonzola mayo on 12 grain The place fills up during breakfast and lunch rush , but line is moving pretty fast. Do not walk away! Espresso Love's downtown cafe location is a bright spot in an area of urban cafe blight. It is one of the few place to get good coffee and a quick, quality breakfast, lunch, or dessert, and where you can comfortably sit with friends and chat if you have time. The coffee is fresh and not burnt and they roast their own beans. Yes, there are a few other places that do that, but those places either have no food, or no space, or both. For the more fancy types, they have all of the coffee permutations, like espressos, cappuccinos, mochas etc., and I have been consistently pleased with those offerings. They also have smoothies although I have never tried one. The food is what makes Espresso Love have steady traffic. The visual centerpiece is the baked goods case, stocked with high quality items like scones, muffins, croissants, cake, brownie and cookies. There is always a decent variety, although you have to watch out as some items are rotated and you may not find what you want. The breakfast options--Sunrise breakfast sandwich, oatmeal, or pastries--are great! If you have ever tried to get breakfast at Starbucks, then you know the meaning of the word regret. Try this place for a more humane breakfast. The lunch menu and daily specials have enough variety to satisfy the monotonous work lunch routine. Nearly everything they serve is quick, healthy and tasty. If you have time to wait, try the burger. It is as good as or better than the restaurant/bar burgers in the area, for almost half the price. Last but not least, the staff is a wonderful collection of friendly, young, and attentive people. Service is prompt. There is no "attitude." Simply put, this place is worthy of being put in your regular rotation. read more
