I sit here early one morning and I must say a few things: 1. I can be grumpy and a snob sometimes... and the character of this place got me in the heart. I arrived around 6:00 am on a Monday and as somebody who worked in food service, I always noticed the way employees clean and how careful and diligent they are with food prep. This place would put any place I managed to shame!! My visit began when I ordered a coffee and a tea and the owner seemed a bit perplexed, but he brought them over promptly. I sit here at the bar on my laptop and I am the only patron here and I have developed a fondness of how careful and diligent the gentlemen who run this establishment are! There is not a chair, hair, or slice of bread out of place. The bucket that they clean the tables and sinks with is steaming as I watch, everything is prepared in sight! (Sometimes when a place is not so clean, I do not wish to see how things are prepared but for this place, the customer can feel confident in the food safety and the owner's diligence and attention to detail!). This place isn't fancy in the way that Starbucks or even maybe Dunkin is... They have their fancy cups and stoppers in the drinks... and you won't get that here but you also won't get corner cutting! You WILL get character, warmth, and friendliness in the service, high-quality food prepared FRESH! Thank you! I wish there was a bonus star that I could assign ... but alas, I do not have one. Completely disappointing. went to this coffee house for breakfast with my girlfriend, and I wasn't expecting to get poor service, especially with this location being near the state house. once I enter the establishment, the person at the front desk did greet us, which was somewhat welcoming, but they were very hesitant because me and my girlfriend are people of color. I ordered the capital breakfast meal and my girlfriend ordered a croissant toasted with cheddar cheese and bacon as she is allergic to eggs. We then proceeded to sit down at the counter to wait for our food because we are dining in . We sat down for about three minutes and was told we have to pay for our food first before we get it. Which I thought was odd. Meanwhile, there are two other customers in the establishment. One customer was almost finished with his meal. My girlfriend and I noticed when he was done and got up, then he went to go pay for his food..!!! so how is it that he got his food first without paying for it but we have to pay for our food before we get ours!!!!... here's the kicker we were served on paper plates...eating utensils were plastic...!!! this place is prejudice and racist!!! the food was horrible!!! Capitol Coffee House is a little corner spot directly across the street from the side of the State House. It has a great view of the street and the Capitol. We came there for a reasonably priced breakfast, and we were not disappointed! I had the Italian Omelette which came with homestyle potatoes and toast. It was one of the better breakfasts I had in Boston! It seems like there are a lot of regulars who stop in and chat, which was a great aspect in my opinion.
