Really love this place. The best tasting coffee in the area. Great sandwiches. My faves are the chicken, spinach & feta wrap or the chicken curry sandwich. YUMMMY. Reggae music, ice cold coffee and a relaxing atmosphere makes for a very cool coffee bar. I was in the area waiting for friends and needed an ice cold brew to cool off in the summer's sun. This place is cozy and inviting. The cashier was super nice and chatty. he talked me into a New Orleans iced coffee, said it was strong, so I agreed to it. He told me this place closes at 11pm on the weekends and they also serve alcohol. Whatever gave him the impression that I drink? Too funny. In any case, I really liked the vibe in here. The reviews about the lack of laptop use and space are a bit unfair as there is a Starbucks less than 2 blocks away and a Caffe Bene a few more blocks away - both have wifi and allow you to stay for extended periods. This cafe is obviously trying to offer a different experience which I think is a great idea. It is a nice enough space and the coffee is really good. My low rating has to do with the owner who looked at me like I insulted him when I asked him where the bathroom was - after ordering my drink and snack. He never answered me, just walked away briskly and talked to his staff. Didn't really feel welcome after that and it just didn't seem like I was the target demographic. I came here today 2/21 at 7 am as the hours on YELP AND the website says 7-10. The woman "working" there was nasty and gave me an attitude from far away mouthing to me "we are closed." When she finally came to the door to tell me officially they were not open I told her the website and yelp says 7 am. I received the following: "mmm we open 7:30." Adjust your website if you are going to choose when you open daily. I've lived in Jackson heights my whole life before hipster joints like this ever existed. I've also been an integrated member of this community as a pediatric speech pathologist working with many families in the neighborhood. So what ever happen to the customer is first. So I have been living in the area all my life and started as a customer in 2012 and the cafe while quaint and cozy at one point just doesn't feel the same. I understand all the precautions that need to be taken for Covid but to have customers buy a meal (not including bagels etc) is a bit much when you want to sit indoors for a bite and a coffee. Outdoor seating is scarce and everytime I pass by (different hours of the day) there is no place to sit. I suggest either allowing indoor seating without the obligatory meal or having time limits on outdoor seating so we can all enjoy our local Cafe. read more

I live down the block and come here all the time (at least, pre-pandemic). Almost all the bad reviews are about the laptop policy, but on weekdays, you're allowed to sit at a communal table for an hour. Frankly, if you want to camp out, go to Starbucks. If people didn't think that $5 for a fancy coffee rented them an 8-hour office in the coffee shop, maybe the owners wouldn't have to make these rules. (And there's a sign about the policy on the door and on the counter where you order.) I've always found the food and drink to be very good, and as someone else said, the staff reviews are puzzling because, in my experience, they are always lovely. As other reviews point out, the owner makes no efforts to be friendly and customer service-oriented. While I don't particularly dislike the rules here on seating or laptop use like others do, I've seen him scowl at and rebuke customers who aren't aware of the rules. I've never been on the receiving end of any of these exchanges, but just having to witness them makes for an unpleasant cafe experience. That aside, the space itself is nice. However, the food and coffee are quite pedestrian and fall flat on delivery. On the plus side, I like the honeybee drink and they have a good selection of beers! Similar to other reviewers, I've been stonewalled by a multitude of rules over the last year. Today was my breaking point. The first time I went I was told the center table is for those using computers and that I couldn't sit anywhere else. This was toward the middle of the week when only one other person and I were sitting in the cafe. But I obliged. No big. Then I was told that there is a $10 limit on cards. This is a cafe. Do most people buy $10 worth of food or drink at a cafe on average? I think not. In that case it's an unreasonable inconvenience. I get not wanting to pay a credit card fee but transferring the burden onto customers is a risk. I was with a friend and we found ourselves at a loss because there was no where else to go. I think that's the advantage this place has. It's one of a kind in the area. But what'll happen when that changes? And today, the day I'd had enough, I step in and notice the man behind the counter eying me. I set down my bag, walk over to the cashier, and the first thing he says to me is, "Are you going to use your computer?" This is my 4th or 5th time here in about 2 years. I'm not a regular and so don't count myself a nuisance. "Yes," I respond. "You can't use your computer here on the weekend," he says. "Why?" I ask. "Because it bothers other customers. It's a policy." Forgive me, but that sounds like BS. It sounds more like, "you won't spend as much money and are therefore not a priority." And that was it. I won't return. I won't recommend. And if someone asks, I'll only have negative things to say about my experience. The food and drink aren't terrible but they aren't remarkable enough to get me back. read more

Cool community atmosphere with patrons of all ages, families, singulars, computers, I bet well behaved dogs wouldn't be a big deal either. Local artwork on the walls, sunlight, chalkboard menus, awesome staff - this place is a win! The best ice coffee I've ever had, and the darlingest latte art I've ever seen. I am so relieved to see that I am not the only one who thinks the baristas/cashiers have attitude/customer service issues. I thought I was being sensitive! I only write reviews when necessary. After my last experience at this place, I felt I needed to let the business owners know about their employees. Perhaps customer service retraining is needed! This is what happened, I was so livid after the experience I remembered the exact conversation. Picture this scenario: 2 young children, perhaps around 5 or 6 running around the establishment before 8 am in the morning. Going behind the counter and playing around. Me: Hi good morning! Barista/Cashier: low tone, not even turning to look at me since shes making a drink, not even coming up to the POS machine, "what can I get you?" Me: I'd like a matcha latte please, and do you have bagels ? Barista: yeah, what size latte? (attitude) Me: small please, what kind of bagels do you have? Barista: (annoyed tone) all of them I won't continue to bore you all, but what is all of them? how do you know if I frequent here? which I dont, this was my first time in 2 years. So how would I know what bagels you have? The flavors aren't listed, and what if I wanted say..pumperknickle? or whole wheat everything? I doubt you'd have that. I just felt like she could have at least listed a few and showed some customer service or showed some kind of help. Either way, didn't say thank you or anything. I was so unimpressed by the service here. The matcha latte with oat milk was pretty standard nothing to write home about, the bagel with cream cheese was actually pretty good! So sad to say the customer service here is lacking. Especially after such a hard year in the service industry, the owners need to retrain ASAP! And having kids running around the store is not safe... Having said all that, I would return for the food and maybe just tell her she could be nicer to her customers. read more

How awesome is Espresso 77? First and foremost, they serve great espresso late. The place is both roomy and cozy, with plenty of places to sit. There's free WiFi on weekdays; laptop warriors get their own communal table, leaving plenty of sitting room with folks who'd rather chat or read a book. Weekends are screen free. Live performances, cool t-shirts, delicious cookies. Reasonably priced drinks. Good vibes. I'm a big fan. read more

Frankly, if you can't find a 'proper' cup of coffee in the neighborhood, then you are not looking hard enough because it's Jackson Heights which is known for the best food and definitely has great coffee..The food is very bland. There are many rules to eating or drinking here. -Signs throughout the cafe imploring you to clean your own table -No phone calls allowed -No laptops or tablets except at the center communal table, which has a large plant in the center that negates quite a bit of workspace. Six can sit here comfortably -The WiFi is free, but it cuts out every hour (this is by design) and you have to reconnect in your browser I have been here many times, but the breaking point came today when I was told I could not use my laptop at one of the 9 open tables on the perimeter of the cafe, and would have to wait my turn. I then walked out. Beyond that, the food and drinks are fine at best. As far as coffee shops go, this place has a monopoly on Jackson Heights. Nearby are the crowded/often-dirty Starbucks on 37th Ave, and the not-as-homey-but-much-more-friendly Lety Bakery & Cafe, which has delicious pastries and desserts, also on 37th. read more

Coffee and food are all decent. And because there are no other options (aside from Cafe Bene or Starbucks) in the area, I come here. But, considering the cons, it's in my best interest to not come back and to also recommend NOT trying this place out. Biggest con: Laptop policy is some real garbage. You're only permitted to sit at one big table in the middle that is removed from all outlets, if you're working on a laptop. If you need to charge, you can sit at another table, but your laptop must be CLOSED to avoid giving others the impression that laptop use away from the big middle table is permissible. I was reminded by multiple employees that I could not open or use my laptop as I sat there on my phone. How STRICT and annoying is that lol. To the owner: it's 2019. People go to cafés to do work. If they're not on their laptops, they are on their cellphones. Your effort to create a "vibe" is just a snobby piss off to your average person. You have plenty of complaints about this policy on your Yelp, please TAKE THE HINT like smart businesses do. At the very least, you can make the designated laptop table closer to the outlets and provide an extension cord. That accommodation would go miles. Second con is this place is pretty overpriced. Cool cafe in Jackson heights with an artistic atmosphere, and a small but great menu. I went here whilst on a food tour of Jackson Heights, and I ordered the apple cider chai which was FANTASTIC. I think it was a seasonal item for autumn, and it was so interesting and had such a kick to ordinary chai. I also ordered a pumpkin spice latte with almond milk, but I wasn't a big fan of that actually - not enough pumpkin flavor and I don't know if they had any purée in it but that could have helped enhance the flavor. Really nice atmosphere and the owner seems like a great guy who cares about the arts. I would absolutely go back to try more coffee and actual food. read more

For pastries they stock their shelves with goodies from Cannelle but their brunch items are also really good. I came here on a Saturday afternoon, it was bitter cold and was looking for a place to meet up with a friend that was warm. This is a cute coffee shop 5 minutes from the train. When you walk in there are signs posted everywhere that it's a screen free zone during certain times on weekdays and all the time on weekends. So for those of you looking to get some work done here on your laptops, make sure you check the times you can do this. Honestly, I like that they have that sign because we were able to find a seat, which we wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. I don't like the seating on the way to the bathroom, people bump into you constantly, so when another seat opened up the barrista helped us move our stuff which I thought was really nice. The brownies we had were the salted caramel and the marshmallow. They were good, but not crazy good. read more

Last Sunday, I made the trek from Harlem to Espresso 77 to do some work before dinner with the squad. I discovered, after purchasing my drink, that they dont allow laptops on the weekends. I seldom hear of tech-free spaces in NYC but here's one cafe that obeys it like the holy commandment (look at the pic below). I respect that but the notice needs to be more transparent especially online. Aside from that, it's a gorg cafe with a lot more space than you'd imagine looking outside in. Was very excited when I walked into this place and saw their baguette sandwiches and chocolate croissants as well as the cool artsy vibe this place seemed to have. A much needed breath of fresh air for this area. Needless to say after my first and last experience there I have to say I was utterly disappointed by the absolute rudeness displayed by none other than the owner himself! First, let me say that unlike many other Yelpers, I have no complaints about their laptop rule. It's actually really obnoxious when you want to have a coffee/tea/ snack yet you can't get a seat because most of the seats are taken up by people who spend HOURS there on their laptops. Ridiculous and honestly the only good thing about this place. Anyhow, getting back to the rude owner. I had ordered a coffee with almond milk and while I was waiting for my order some lady came in and the owner immediately ignored everyone and everything and started chatting her up. When I got my coffee I could see there was barely any almond milk so I asked the owner if I could have a bit more. He didn't even turn to look at me as he practically threw the carton on the counter so I could do it myself. Even though that already made me mad, I hate confrontation so I poured some of the coffee out, put in more milk and then returned the carton to the counter and said thank you. Again, he didn't even respond or acknowledge my presence as he continued to chat up that woman. Absolutely gross and unnecessary. And I feel that there was a bit more to that but I won't get into it here. Maybe I'm being paranoid. First and last time I am ever stepping foot in this place. Hopefully Yelp won't hide my review like it has done to so many other reviews complaining about the rudeness of the owner. I guess Expresso 77 pays for their Yelp business page. I've been going to Espresso 77 on and off since it opened. The coffee is really good, and the food good, though I should say I never had anything more complicated than cake, a slice of pie (yum), and such light fare. The laptop policy may seem quirky but it's a very small space, and if people go in there to hang out with their laptops as it happens in some of the Starbucks in the area, all of which have much more space, then it becomes a problem. I go there to meet friends. Staff attention can be iffy. Mostly I've found these young people friendly, cheerful, even when they are super busy. At least they know how to make a knockout espresso, which is more than I can say for the majority of Starbucks employees. I'm happy to have this café in my neighborhood. read more
