At one time this place was a force...now it's left somewhat of a lackluster feeling all the way down Austin St. I was in the area for an event and I needed food stat! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get a sandwich from Stacked since I haven't had one in a while. I I walked in and waited to be greeted while the staff chatted and gazed at me for about 5ish minutes or so. Finally, I'm acknowledged and asked "what can I get for you". I saw they had a Thanksgiving sandwich called the "Gobbler". I asked how long they would have it as even though it's the November special, sometimes places might make it last through the holidays. When asked I was told "it will be available until whenever November ends". This whole interaction made me feel so unwelcome. It didn't look like there was much going on there in the relm of orders, but it still took them a while to make my sandwich. Finally they bring it to the front counter. Pack it in paper and a paper bag and I'm off. I didn't have much time to eat so I scarfed it down in my car before heading down Queens Blvd. It was very good. Not my favorite, but def has potential. Stacked is the type of sandwich shop I would really like in theory and don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the sandwich I got. But it's not a place I would put on a rotation or feel the need to come back. For one, I was super excited to find this type of establishment on Austin Street, as it really does need something like this. The place itself has a pretty hip vibe- the menu is written in colorful chalk with fun designs. I've been twice and both times have been the only person in the place, so not sure how busy it gets. This most recent time I got the Aged to Perfection. It's a solid sandwich. A skosh on the pricy end for what it is but not outrageous for the area. I don't know that I agree that their medium size could feed 2 people but maybe if you're not so hungry. I do wish they offered options beyond whole & wheat bread (i.e. a wrap- when I asked about this I was told they had quesadillas which...obviously are not the same). Since I was the only person there the service was quick. But in review of the rest of the menu there really wasn't much else that made me want to come back. I think some of their sandwiches are interesting for the sake of being unique but maybe they could use some more just standard fare. And the location itself is a bit difficult to get to. Their food is usually very good and order through door dash. This is my first time having an issue: sandwich was missing items and the quality was not what it usually is. I called the store to see if they would attempt at rectifying the situation and instead I got hung up on. I called back several times and they did not answer. They also come in 3 different sizes that feed 1, 1 to 2 and 3 people. I ordered the signature "Stacked OG" that feeds up to 3. The sandwich includes ham, salami, turkey, roast beef, provolone, mortadella, American cheese, and an assortment of veggies. The relishes they add to the sandwiches make them extra yummy. I watched them prepare my sandwich and when they handed it to me. I felt like I was cradling a football and had the urge to strike that quintessential Heisman trophy pose with my sandwich nestled safely against my body, out of my way while I run it in for a sandwich touchdown! The sandwich shop is called Stacked for a reason. They pile it on thick. So unless you can stretch your jaws out like a hungry python, I recommend you flatten it out with your palm or cut it into slices to give your mouth less of a workout. To find parking in the area is a nightmare. Stacked is located a few doors down by the 112th police precinct, so all the street parking in the immediate area are earmarked for the police department and authorized vehicles only. Our vehicles are not authorized, other than authorized to be towed if you park there. Park further away and walk over. They also make custom salad bowls and other yummy sandwich combinations. As someone who doesn't eat much meat, it's surprising how much I like Stacked. First, the staff here is great. Everyone is has been super friendly every time I've gone. Sandwich-wise, I like their salads. I didn't know chickpea salad was a thing until I had it here, and I love it. Their egg salad is also pretty good, too. I also really like their overnight oats. The PBJ oats are great, and the apple-cinnamon ones run a close second. I'll also add, while I haven't tried them, my husband has ordered actual heroes from them before. They are literally "stacked" and he thoroughly enjoys them. STACKED is keeping the NYC sandwich experience alive by and although seemingly easy to make at home, we all don't always have every ingredient to make an ordinary sandwich - extraordinary, exciting and unique. No yelling over the counter necessary, behind you is a massive menu board and paper trifold menus at the counter. I was impressed with the Italian meats of prosciutto, my favorite cold cutt, capicole, mortadella, pepperoni and more. The sandwiches are stacked as the name states, so prepared your jaws to do a large mouth bass impersonation as you clamp down on the Italian bread like a boa constrictor drawing it in ever nearer. The chain locations never can compare to a single store operation and the top names are overpriced and about the world's worst customer service. SUBWAYs and tuna fish isn't from an actual tuna nor is their chicken salad from a chicken - gosh I love banging on that shop. Blimpies isn't much better nor different with breads and cold cuts setups looking like carbon copies with no depth of flavor. Break the chain and stop in to your local sandwich shop. The bagels and pastry's-- I'm pretty confident I have tried them all at this point. My favorite bagel: cinnamon ray-ray. The everything bagel is good, and so is the plain. The Apple Turnovers and Cheese Danish are good. The muffins are all good as well, but I recommend toasting the corn and buttering it up! I go totes mcgotes for their overnight oats. When I got my order and felt the weight of the bag I thought to myself "Damn, my delivery person biked with this? She got an extra workout today!". My Stacked OG was protruding out of the bag - too large to be contained. I also ordered the Jerk Chicken Caesar Hero and thought they wrapped BOTH sandwiches together, but when I saw it sitting in the bottom of the bag I knew I was wrong. When I whipped out my sandwich I had to get a tape measure to see how long and girthy this bad boy was.. a bit over a foot and a circumference even larger. Stuffed with layers upon layers of meat. How the hell do you eat this thing?! I only managed a quarter (I could make 4 meals out of this). I tried some later and It actually tasted a little better after it sat in fridge for a while - the flavors come together more. When you put it in the fridge make sure to use a leak proof container - a lot of liquid came out not sure if that is the oil and vinegar or meat sweats, but be warned. The Jerk Chicken Caesar hero wasn't as stuffed as the Stacked OG, which made it more manageable and easier to eat. I tried a bite, but not my thing. In fact, I saved half and ate the rest TWO day later, and even after being refrigerated the sandwich still was soft and even better then the first day. The prices are on par with the Queens sandwich spots, so be prepared. But they do take card, and have more variety of snacks and sides then some of the other local spots. I saw all the rave reviews for this sandwich shop in my neighborhood and had to check it out. I stopped by one afternoon and the store was empty. I took my time perusing the menu and wanted to try almost everything because it all looked so appetizing. Honestly, I had to ask the staff what some of the ingredients were because I honestly didn't know. I was looking for something with no beef or pork. Unfortunately, most of the sandwiches had one or the other which is the only reason this wasn't a 5 star review. They have an option where you can make your own but I wanted some of the bells and whistles of their "signature" sandwiches. Another customer came in the store and saw me struggling with what to order and she recommended the "Crossfit/Circuit" special. The sandwich was on a honey wheat roll with turkey, sun dried tomatoes, avocado, fresh mozzarella, lettuce and tomatoes and Russian dressing. I asked to remove the avocado which I detest. It took a few minutes to receive my order and you can watch the guy wrapping the sandwiches. Mine looked nice and big just like the other reviewers said so I was like woo hoo I can save some for tomorrow. This is NOT your parents' sandwich shop; and it is definitely not Subway (thank heavens, because there are way too many of those). Three of us split two heroes, Muffaletta ($12.95) and The Rueben ($11.95). Sorry, I was hungry and only remembered to take one picture halfway through the meal. For $16, I was not too impressed with the size of the sandwich (how much was actually put on the sandwich) nor the content/taste of it given the cost. It tasted decent but it did not justify the price. Some have suggested on here that the size of these sandwiches larger than the "Mini" are big enough to share but I would disagree.
