Such a gorgeous bar with stunning aesthetic, mood, lighting, and delicious cocktails! I totally enjoyed my experience at Espiritu which was made even more delightful by our kind server who guided us through the menu details, helping each member in my group choose the beverage that suited their unique palette.
Wow, I love the vibe here! It's dark and moody but still energetic. Our server was amazing. The guys weren't sure which 2/3 oyster types to get, so they said surprise us and the kitchen sent all three (the last was pretty tiny, but the flavor flight was there). The market price steak is pricey, but very well received at our table. Having a big night out? Consider the punch (big black seashell looking vessel). Worried it will be too sweet? We were, too. Let your server know what kind of flavors you're looking for and if your bartender is feeling kind, they'll tailor it to you a bit more so it's maximum enjoyment. The birria dumplings are incredible! Make sure you order those!! I had one of the best pina coladas EVER here, too. Basically, the place is great but it comes at a price so pick your visit date and celebrate something!
Wow. Feeling blessed to have this local gem. The ambiance of this place is insane. I love the low lighting and how lowkey the place feels. The menu may seem small but it's because each of these items is masterfully crafted. I got the pork belly and it easily takes the spot for my best bite of the year. I got the el corazon for my drink and it was perfect. The service was prompt and they kept up with our drinks. 10/10 spot I want to see this place continue to thrive. We will be back
Came here for a birthday celebration and the food did not disappoint especially the pork chop. The meat was juicy and well seasoned. Additionally it came with shishito peppers marinated with some buttery sauce and little charred topped with some cheese. 5/5 We also ordered the fundido which was good, but felt the tomatillo sauce overpowered the cheese, so it's just a personal preference. Others in my group did enjoy it. 4/5 Drinks- I don't recall what it was called, but it was a Japanese old fashion and it was a great compliment to my pork chop As for the server- 5/5, he was attentive and knowledgeable with the menu and drink from start to finish. Only caveat- a good portion of their menu is market value, so no clue how much things are. So ask in advance or don't be surprised when it comes out.
Wow 10/10 experience!!!!! First- drinks. They had an elaborate drink menu! Any kind of cocktail you could imagine. All very creative so give them a try! The waitress made me a great mocktail as well. Oysters- amazing!! They were unique with a pickled onion, lime garnish, and a chili oil I believe. Try them! My husband and I split the cut of the day. Expensive but WORTH IT!!!! Enough for both of us plus leftovers. My husband is a self-claimed steak connoisseur and he said it's probably the best steak he has ever had. They had homemade tortillas, a carmalized onion aioli, two different homemade salsas and pinto beans to accompany it. Unreal! I have thought about this steak so many times since LOL. We also tried the birria dumplings. Also amazing but I did not get a picture. I was too excited to eat The ambiance is great. It seems like it's a tiny spot but the restaurant is long and skinny. They also expanded into the space next door so they have more tables now. Great for a celebration, date night or girls night! We will definitely be back :)
Always a favorite when in downtown Mesa! This time I was able to enjoy the Mariscos and it easy to say the best oysters in the valley!! The flat iron steak and burger were delicious as always. Drinks were soo good as they just released a new cocktail menu! I love the decor of the restraint and our server was so friendly!
Espiritu has a *very* cool ambience--dark, moody, and dimly lit in a way that makes the whole place feel intimate and stylish without trying too hard. The servers and bartender were incredibly friendly and helpful, which really elevated the experience. I ordered the Mai Tai, and while it was definitely good, it was probably the strongest one I've ever had. A bit too strong for my personal taste, but still well-made. To eat, we shared the queso fundido, which was delicious--especially with the crispy shoestring potatoes on top. That added texture really made the dish stand out. Overall, it was a great experience. I'd absolutely come back, though next time I'll probably try a different cocktail.
I stumbled across this restaurant while searching for the best restaurants in Arizona. I found an article that consisted of James Beard award nominees for Arizona. Chef Roberto was nominated as the 2024 up-and-coming chef. This restaurant is perfect for a romantic date night or a large gathering. One side of the restaurant features a large bar along with smaller tables. Then, on the other side of the restaurant there are larger tables. I love how the intimate dining is separate from larger gatherings. Definitely a lot of thought and planning went into the Layout of this restaurant. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by the hostess. Behind her was a small case featuring oysters. The young woman that seated us was kind and showed us to our seat. Our servers name was Nicki. She was also very friendly and had very good recommendations. To drink I started off with The Phoenix and my husband had a bottled beer. My drink was very delicious. Freshly squeezed citrus juices gave it a bit of a tart taste. It was definitely a deliciously crafted cocktail. For dinner I chose to have the restaurant week menu. Please see photo below. I selected the Birria dumplings. They consisted of Wagyu beef cheek,cabbage slaw, roasted corn, confit, mushrooms, bok choy, beef, broth, and chili sauce. We both thoroughly enjoyed them and would definitely get them again. For my main course, I selected the K4 flat iron steak, prepared, medium rare. It was accompanied by Chiltepin sauce - potatoes - flour tortilla - beans. There was definitely something about the potatoes and how they were dry roasted, then added to the beans. The way the potatoes absorbed the residual liquid from the beans created a delicious melody of flavors. Steak was delicious and perfectly. K4 is a. premium Meat shop in Prescott, Arizona. For Dessert, I ordered the Keylime pie. I have to admit I do not like Keylime pie but today I have seen the light! Or should I say spirit? Esprirtu's Keylime pie is the best I have ever had. Less like a traditional pie it's layered and cut into a square. The lime zest on top gave it that extra finishing touch of tart. Thank you to the entire staff for a very delicious and memorable meal. We will absolutely positively be returning.
Espíritu is a Spanish word that translates to "spirit" in English, but it can also mean "ghost," "soul," or "essence." I had such a great time on my first visit that I dragged the gals back for a second visit the following weekend. I made reservations online, which you're required to leave a credit card on file with OpenTable. Get reservations. Espiritu is an intimate and cozy place so you're taking a gamble if you don't make reservations, although we did walk-in on the first visit and got lucky. First visit: - Me Llama Rosa ($16): A great sweet drink with rum. - Sticky Pork Belly ($23 - Burnt lemon grass piloncillo glaze, Beeler's pork belly, fennel salad, and a fried egg): A truly stand-out dish. You get two pieces of an amazingly braised pork belly with a fresh salad that helps cut the richness. Could be the Asian in me but rice would have been nice, haha! Second visit: - Espresso Martini ($18): The most balanced espresso martini I've had in a looong while. Not too vodka forward, smooth, and the cold brew they used is insanely smooth. It's like velvet in a glass. Easily in my top two favorite espresso martinis in the valley! - Papas Tacos ($15 - Chilaquiles rojo potatoes, lettuce slaw, and queso fresco): One of my friends had actually ordered these on my first visit and they looked so good that I had already decided I'd order them at ladies night the following weekend. Beware, vegetarians and vegans, the potatoes are cooked in chicken broth. I'm honestly still daydreaming about these potato tacos. Love. This. Place. It's moody, cozy, and definitely a vibe! Don't overthink it. Whether it's for date night or you're catching up with friends, come here! I will warn you that this is not the place to go to if you have a large party.
Ambiance, service, and drinks are all 10/10. I even asked the mixologist to craft a cocktail from Fernet but themed as a Zombie and it came out as a top 5 all time best in my book! The food is an 8/10. Very tasty and has a good element of creativity, but every dish was either too heavy on the salt or too heavy on the citrus. My date and I will be back to try more! Food eaten was the Queso Fundido, Birria Dumplings, Dry Aged Burger, and Drum.
I never knew potato tacos could taste soooooo good! The flavor combination blew me away! The crispy golden shells were perfectly crunchy, while the inner seasoned potato filling was pure comfort in every bite. The texture contrast was incredible -- soft and fluffy on the inside, crisp and toasty on the outside. What really made them stand out was the balance of flavors: a hint of smoky spice, just enough salt, and a touch of whatever magic zing the chef added to make each bite addictive. Topped with fresh shredded lettuce, tangy salsa, and a drizzle of sum-in sum-in, they hit every note -- crunchy, savory, creamy, and delish! Whether you're vegetarian or not, this is one dish that will win you over instantly. Service was fantastic at this cozy and intimate eatery! Remember to make reservations on Fridays and the weekends!
Sangrias + burgers = Friday night vibes Got the $10 white wine sangria since they ran out of red but I didn't mind. I ordered their $20 Dry Aged Burger (K4 beef, bacon, cheddar, caramelized onions, chiltepin aioli, brioche bun, papas al disco, side of spicy ketchup) and it was the best burger I've had in a while. It was juicy and perfectly cooked. No notes and no complaints. Make sure you make reservations here. It's dimly lit and cozy but it's comfortable and the atmosphere is nice.
I had this place on my radar for quite some time, as I frequent downtown Mesa at least twice a week during lunch. They open at 5 PM Tues through Sat with cocktails and the kitchen. I would highly recommend making reservations to secure your spot. We were fortunate to get a table as walk-ins, and I noticed a few other couples after us ended up at the bar. We had our sights set on the kitchen and wanted to branch out with something new. The cocktail menu is set up like a book with about 5 or 6 different chapters. They have a chapter for Classics, Flights & spotlights, and a very interesting one called "Meet the Team". Basically, a bio of what the barentenders favor. First thing I did was ask "who's on deck," and our server let us know. I started off with the Phoenix, which is one of their signature cocktails with a take on the margarita with hot honey syrup, prickly pear and my favorite, Reposado Tequila. The drink was presented well and very good. It said it was a Sour with a bit less sweet & bitter. I found it to be the opposite, more sweet than sour. The other cocktail to start was the Pajarito... great presentation, but it kinda felt like it too was the opposite as far as the flavor profile. To start, we had to try the Birria Dumplings. Gotta admit, the flavor was off the hook and the portion was just right for 2. We also had the Queso Fundido. It was super busy on the plate, and the one downside was that it was very salty. We let the server know, as we worried about our mains coming out heavy on the salt. Great flavor profile, just overpowering with salt. Glad the management team was receptive to feedback as we let them know. For the main, we had the Potato Tacos, Chef Seasonal Tostada & the Skirt Steak along with a classic Reposado Cadillac margarita. All 3 plates were good. Steak was cooked as expected and the tacos were a good mix as we shared. The Seasonal Tostada with shrimp was full of flavor and very good. It's a bit on the high end, but honestly, the food flavor, ambiance, and staff were really great. Look forward to returning again as I'm anxious to do the Snapper Fish... Whole. Ideal for date night, but make sure you really like them before going!!!!

Located in downtown Mesa! They have parking in the front and back. Nicely decorated restaurant for a casual hangout or a fancy night out. The seafood was really good!! I got the Del Mar Ceviche Mixto and lots of big pieces of seafood. This dish was filling and can be easily shared. The burger was a big portion. If you are hungry, this will be a great choice! The potatoes were seasoned very well. The burger was juicy and cheesy!! The Lichi Lychee Lee-Chee drink was great!! Very refreshing drink. There are lots of options for drinks and they have seasonal drinks too. Customer service was awesome!! The staff was very friendly. I would recommend. There was a seasonal menu for a octopus tostados so hopefully that's there next time so that I can try it! The only thing is that it is on the pricer side for the food and drinks. read more
I've been wanting to come here for forever and finally visited over the weekend! First off, the bar is GORGEOUS. I love the green walls, melted candles, and eclectic framed mirrors. We got a couple of drinks here and liked them all. This is a small, but cool place in downtown Mesa to get drinks and I will definitely be bringing other people here to try it out! read more

Tucked away between two shops in downtown Mesa, Espiritu is a great little gem with scrumptious food and cocktails that will knock your socks off. I took my future hubby to be to celebrate his birthday. Reservations suggested since seating is limited and it does get pretty full. (We went on a Thursday night) The ambiance is intimate and service was swift and kind. Our server suggested types of cocktails and wine to pair with our meal. So speaking of our meal. We had the market special of 20 oz bone-in rib eye and 20 oz bone-in pork chop. Both had a nice sear and char on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside. At first I didn't think I would finish since it is a lot of food, but it was too good not to stop! It also came with a side of bean soup and grilled flour tortillas and salsa. I highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already. The chef is a James Beard award nominee and won on Chopped! You can tell his creativity and his love for cooking in his food. read more

And good thing because the place was full. We were seated and promptly ordered the cocktails specials for the day -- the sokoloco and a mezcal old fashioned. The food menu doesn't have many vegetarian options to choose from. We were able to order the guac with chips instead of pig skins. And we ordered the potato tacos, which were great. We also chose to flex and get the shrimp aguachile, which was delicious. Overall, this is a great place and we will be back for happy hour again. read more
We arrived here right as they were opening (5pm ish) and grabbed seats at the bar. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try any of the food because we had just eaten prior to that. I ordered the Or Chata Clarified Milk Punch and he ordered the Morning Is In cocktail. The Or Chata was pretty sweet. More than I was expecting but I shoulda known better cuz it had horchata. It wasn't bad but just a tad too sweet for me. His drink was also a bit sweet. He didn't finish his drink and ended up ordering a second drink which was a tequila soda w/ a lime (his usual). I'm sure he enjoyed his usual more than the first. He thought that place was okay overall. I liked the place because it gives off a speakeasy vibe. Delicious, unexpected, welcoming, and fun! This was our first experience at Espiritu. We casually stumbled across this venue in passing and was met by the chef grilling his meals on the front patio. We were welcomed inside for a seat at the bar and were greeted with open arms, savory eats, and delicious refreshments. Trendy Modern Coastal food located in Downtown Mesa Upon entering the restaurant, you're greeted a friendly bartender. The restaurant is fairly small but allows for fairly large parties. Don't hesitate to reserve your spot as it can get busy. It's open later than some of the other places in the area. They're open till midnight, though the kitchen closes earlier. The burger is quite large and can be split for two people. It comes with a side of sliced potatoes fries. The Del Mar Ceviche is very large as well and contains some sizable chunks of fish, shrimp, & octopus. read more
The creativeness at Espiritu ricochets off the walls. The forest green painted walls, large waxed waterfall like candles, and gallery hung paintings adjacent to the bar make Espiritu unequivocally one of the coolest restaurants around. The restaurant opens at 5, we got there around 430 and a line of 15 trickled in behind us as the doors opened. Our waiter Ryan was electric. He easily convinced us to order the seasonal ceviche, ribeye and mainstay shrimp Taquitos. If you've ever been to their sister restaurant Bacanora, you know how good the steak is as it's cooked on their mesquite grill. If you haven't been, good luck getting in- try to make a res ASAP. It's so hot right now. Being a vegan, I tried one slice. It was delicious. The ceviche was one of the best I've had. The citrussness mixed with Mexican spices and sauces was a celebratory event for my taste buds. The shrimp Taquitos were delicious although I'd prefer if they were not fried. My husband and I really enjoyed our recent date night to Espiritu. We only got cocktails on this visit. The atmosphere is so fun, quaint with awesome design touches. One being the amazing gallery wall behind the bar, the super cool candles and other vintage pieces through out. The cocktail book is very intuitive! It shows you how the cocktails are presented, with a fun description and flavor scales. It's great for someone who knows exactly what they want and especially those who don't. The cocktails were very good, nothing out of the park, but still tasty. It's very unlike some of the other restaurants in downtown Mesa, so it's very welcomed! We look forward going back and trying a few other things along with some bites of eat. read more

What a beautiful bar! Loved it, look forward to going back. Met up with a girlfriend there for a couple of cocktails. There is a food menu but I didn't look at it because I had just eaten elsewhere. This review is for the cocktails and bar area. Pros: Absolutely beautiful bar with how it's set up and the lighting. What a vibe- really good throwback R&B playing, with soft lights, and huge candles burning. The bartenders are attentive and chill. I ordered 1 set drink "quick cocktail" from the menu and one "choose your own adventure". Both were phenomenal. The drink from the menu was SONORAN SLING- Charred Pineapple, chiltepin infused Bacanora, Cherry heering, grand mariner, Peychuads bitter apertivo, Almond orgeat, lime juice, pineapple juice, molé bitters. It was very much like a tiki drink (which I love). The second drink I had was something with bourbon and tiki inspired. It was incredible. My friend had the EL BURRO- Ono sotol, lime juice, mango puree, ginger and almond orgeat, champagne. Like a better, stronger mango mule. Super cool vibey place in downtown Mesa! Never expected something cool looking like Espiritu to open up in this area. We came across this place on social media and decided to stop by on Saturday for dinner. There are two entrances to this place. One through the back in the alley right by the parking lot and the main entrance being right on Main. (the sign is small) The host stand was right outside and we were told the wait would be 30mins. Once our table was ready the hostess gave us a call and sat us down. The menus are located on a QR code that's right at the table. Our server came over right away and gave us water and then the run down on all their daily specials. There were soooo many and we were fascinated on how she had it all memorized to a T. We started out with cocktails. One El burro, and two specials (the cocktail drink that comes in a skull head, not sure what it's called) and we then proceeded to order food. I had a burger and my friends ordered their special of the day which was the al pastor sea bass tacos. My burger was ok. The meat was a little too salty but it was cooked perfectly. The papas al disco were ok, but they needed some seasoning. They had no flavor. My friends said the tacos were ok. Nothing special. The order came with three tacos and nothing else. The drinks? They were okay. I found myself enjoying the tap water more then the cocktail. We finished and it was time to pay. The prices? Very much outrageous, especially the prices for their "specials" that were not listed on the main menu. Therefore, we had no idea how much they were going to be.. The cocktail drink in a skull? $20 each. The tacos? $25 FOR A PLATE OF THREE!! They didn't even come with a side of rice or beans.. Yeah this place is cute and all but they need to chilll a bit when it comes to their prices. The least they can do is put the prices on the menu so then people aren't having a heart attack when the tab comes their way... Scottsdale prices at a Mesa location, no bueno.... read more

The service is amazing, whether it be for just drinks for a full dining experience. We loved the aguachile and dumplings, those are a must get! While I was it was patio season all year long enjoying a drink on the patio in nicer weather is perfect next to the "hustle and bustle" of downtown Mesa. read more

Amazing hangout place for the weekend in Mesa. Had a date night with the wife, and we ordered a couple of appetizers, drinks, and entries. Came out to less than $200. The service is good, just really busy. The place is small, and the reservation is highly recommended. Many walking were turned away. I ordered kbbq, and it was a great flavor but a bit too salty for me, and the plate was too small for the amount of food. There is no room to cut my ribs. Overall, it was a great experience. read more
I will say the food and drinks are a bit expensive, but the quality more than makes up for it. The food always tastes fresh(they have a lot of seafood options) and the cocktails always have incredible flavor profiles with lots of variety. I always recommend this place to locals. It's usually packed on the weekends but I've had no issues getting a table on weekdays. read more
I can't talk enough about their birria dumplings enough! First time at Espiritu, and honestly the dumplings were my favorite dish of the night! It was packed full with flavor, the beef was so tender and juicy. We also ordered queso fundido, the Korean pork meal dish. The queso fundido wasn't my favorite, I felt it was a little tart. The Korean pork meal dish was fantastic. Well seasoned, tender although the rice was on the salty side. For the drinks options, they have an entire booklet about their drinks. It can be overwhelming to decide, but i thought it added to the experience. I got the quetzal and the death note. Both were great, the death note was very refreshing. And the quetzal was more up my speed. This restaurant is small, so I recommend people make reservations ahead of time. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant which was convenient because Espiritu is in downtown Mesa. I really liked my dinning experience at Espiritu, I will definitely be back. read more

It started out as a great evening...nice attentive waitress and good cocktails. The ceviche was excellent and so were the tostadas! Next up house salad made with super fresh greens, beets, and a nice dressing...still good! We shared the seafood special, a crispy Snapper and it was good too. What went wrong...as the restaurant got busy with noisy diners, someone turned up the music so I couldn't hear my date! Also the chairs were stolen from the church basement so by the time we left we were both saying great food, awesome drinks, but not comfortable seats and environment for an enjoyable conversational meal together. read more

Okay, this place.. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. My husband always craves Mexican food and this place is upscale yet so authentic. We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was out of this world. The flavors were on point. I ordered the seasonal ceviche and the aguachile verde shrimp and this was enough to fill me up as a dinner entree - I even took some home as leftovers. The tostadas that paired with these dishes were homemade and you can tell were freshly fried. My husband ordered their mesquite coal skirt steak dish and he was satisfied through and through! It was a large dish and very filling. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to my next time eating their food! One thing to note - it is a smaller dining establishment in general so I wouldn't go here for a large family gathering, just a date night or meal at the bar with friends. read more

And the service, the drinks, the food here are so good we were mad that we didn't spend more time here. If you are in downtown Mesa and are looking for some high-quality craft cocktails and/or some good Latin food this is the place. read more

Great food and cocktails! The birria dumplings were our favorite, but the seasonal ceviche (King Salmon) was a close second. The restaurant was cute, but definitely a bit crowded. Worth the tight corridors to be able to make a reservation same week, or even same day though. Portions were generous, and everything was delicious. We saw a lot of tables order the fried snapper, and we'll have to try that next time! read more

Great cocktails, although a bit expensive. In general they make up for it by being pretty unique. I've only had the queso fundido as far as food goes, but it was very good. We also have been during their industry night a while back, and all of the special breakfast food was great. My boyfriend got chilaquiles and I got pancakes, and they were both very good. Service has never been an issue for us since we normally just go for cocktails so we don't need a lot of attention. I think the servers do a good job considering it's always pretty busy when we go. The atmosphere is great as far as the decor and the staff go, my only complaint is that the music can be pretty loud. I highly recommend making a reservation or just asking for a table - the only time it's ever been too loud for me was when I was at the bar. I usually make a reservation, but we've never had more than a 20 minute wait, and there's some good snack places to go while you wait (try Salted Knot and Novel Ice Cream). read more
