Okay, this place.. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. My husband always craves Mexican food and this place is upscale yet so authentic. We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was out of this world. The flavors were on point. I ordered the seasonal ceviche and the aguachile verde shrimp and this was enough to fill me up as a dinner entree - I even took some home as leftovers. The tostadas that paired with these dishes were homemade and you can tell were freshly fried. My husband ordered their mesquite coal skirt steak dish and he was satisfied through and through! It was a large dish and very filling. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to my next time eating their food! One thing to note - it is a smaller dining establishment in general so I wouldn't go here for a large family gathering, just a date night or meal at the bar with friends. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our recent date night to Espiritu. We only got cocktails on this visit. The atmosphere is so fun, quaint with awesome design touches. One being the amazing gallery wall behind the bar, the super cool candles and other vintage pieces through out. The cocktail book is very intuitive! It shows you how the cocktails are presented, with a fun description and flavor scales. It's great for someone who knows exactly what they want and especially those who don't. The cocktails were very good, nothing out of the park, but still tasty. It's very unlike some of the other restaurants in downtown Mesa, so it's very welcomed! I will say the food and drinks are a bit expensive, but the quality more than makes up for it. The food always tastes fresh(they have a lot of seafood options) and the cocktails always have incredible flavor profiles with lots of variety. I always recommend this place to locals. This will be long winded sorry in advance. This place was where me and my now fiancé went for our first date just over 2 years ago and have been frequent fliers. This place held a lot of meaning for us . We moved away for a bit and when we came home we were so excited to go back here as the atmosphere was a dream. We raved about this place to anyone who would listen . There was so much charm in the decor (melted candles and what not) of the place and it was incredibly unique and well run. We went tonight for my birthday as we hadn't been in quite a while and this is absolutely not the same place. The bar is totally changed . Lost all its charm and character. There is now a giant tv on the wall playing sports. Plus we were greeted by 3 separate servers and no one ever came by to give us our check . We definitely didn't know who our server was for most of the night. This is also just us being particular but the table also wobbled like crazy. We also ordered 6 oysters and were brought 4 . Very disappointed with the direction this place has gone. If only they actually responded to reviews and actually did right by people . Clearly don't care about customers. read more

It started out as a great evening...nice attentive waitress and good cocktails. The ceviche was excellent and so were the tostadas! Next up house salad made with super fresh greens, beets, and a nice dressing...still good! We shared the seafood special, a crispy Snapper and it was good too. What went wrong...as the restaurant got busy with noisy diners, someone turned up the music so I couldn't hear my date! Also the chairs were stolen from the church basement so by the time we left we were both saying great food, awesome drinks, but not comfortable seats and environment for an enjoyable conversational meal together. read more

Every single part of our experience here was absolutely incredible. We didn't have a reservation and it was a Saturday night. The hostess told us that they had had some canceled reservations and that if we came back in 30 minutes she could probably get us sat - which was no problem for us with no reservation. We came back and they got us cocktails while we waited a few more minutes for our table. Cece was our server and she was outstanding. This review is for the cocktails and bar area. Pros: Absolutely beautiful bar with how it's set up and the lighting. What a vibe- really good throwback R&B playing, with soft lights, and huge candles burning. The bartenders are attentive and chill. I ordered 1 set drink "quick cocktail" from the menu and one "choose your own adventure". Both were phenomenal. The drink from the menu was SONORAN SLING- Charred Pineapple, chiltepin infused Bacanora, Cherry heering, grand mariner, Peychuads bitter apertivo, Almond orgeat, lime juice, pineapple juice, molé bitters. It was very much like a tiki drink (which I love). The second drink I had was something with bourbon and tiki inspired. It was incredible. My friend had the EL BURRO- Ono sotol, lime juice, mango puree, ginger and almond orgeat, champagne. Like a better, stronger mango mule. Super cool vibey place in downtown Mesa! Never expected something cool looking like Espiritu to open up in this area. We came across this place on social media and decided to stop by on Saturday for dinner. There are two entrances to this place. One through the back in the alley right by the parking lot and the main entrance being right on Main. (the sign is small) The host stand was right outside and we were told the wait would be 30mins. Once our table was ready the hostess gave us a call and sat us down. The menus are located on a QR code that's right at the table. Our server came over right away and gave us water and then the run down on all their daily specials. There were soooo many and we were fascinated on how she had it all memorized to a T. We started out with cocktails. One El burro, and two specials (the cocktail drink that comes in a skull head, not sure what it's called) and we then proceeded to order food. I had a burger and my friends ordered their special of the day which was the al pastor sea bass tacos. My burger was ok. The meat was a little too salty but it was cooked perfectly. The papas al disco were ok, but they needed some seasoning. They had no flavor. My friends said the tacos were ok. Nothing special. The order came with three tacos and nothing else. The drinks? They were okay. I found myself enjoying the tap water more then the cocktail. We finished and it was time to pay. The prices? Very much outrageous, especially the prices for their "specials" that were not listed on the main menu. Therefore, we had no idea how much they were going to be.. The cocktail drink in a skull? $20 each. The tacos? $25 FOR A PLATE OF THREE!! They didn't even come with a side of rice or beans.. Yeah this place is cute and all but they need to chilll a bit when it comes to their prices. Great cocktails, although a bit expensive. In general they make up for it by being pretty unique. I've only had the queso fundido as far as food goes, but it was very good. We also have been during their industry night a while back, and all of the special breakfast food was great. My boyfriend got chilaquiles and I got pancakes, and they were both very good. Service has never been an issue for us since we normally just go for cocktails so we don't need a lot of attention. I think the servers do a good job considering it's always pretty busy when we go. The atmosphere is great as far as the decor and the staff go, my only complaint is that the music can be pretty loud. I highly recommend making a reservation or just asking for a table - the only time it's ever been too loud for me was when I was at the bar. I usually make a reservation, but we've never had more than a 20 minute wait, and there's some good snack places to go while you wait (try Salted Knot and Novel Ice Cream). read more

Food, drinks, and service were outstanding but it's way too loud. It would be nice if you could hear the servers and the other people you are dining with. We had the potato chips, elote, gem salad, halibut ceviche, and steak. We ordered the steak medium rare and it came out rare. It was sliced already so we didn't send it back and enjoyed it anyway. Menu is mostly limited to meat and seafood with many tequila based drinks. If you are a vodka/ chicken person this may not be a first choice for you. read more

I really appreciated the vibe of this downtown Mesa restaurant. Everything about it was cool, right down to the address (123 Main St). We opted for bar seating as there was a short wait for a table but I think the experience would be similar in either as this is a pretty small (more narrow) place so the energy is consistent. The staff was friendly and we had some good banter at the bar as we watched the various cocktails get created. Food wise it was good. I had one of the specials (a chorizo clam dish), an appetizer (fundido), and the tostada. All were good to very good but I wouldn't run back for any of it. The cocktails were well done too. It's not the best value and I'll admit I felt a bit nickel and dimed when they offered me more bread, I accepted, and then was charged $3 for it. Just tell me that upfront! It's pretty exhausting spending $16 for cocktails that have literally $2 worth of ingredients but that's where we are. Taking this further they have a terrible gas station 40oz beer on the menu (as a joke I presume). Joke is on the customer who pays $15 for it (retail price $3.99). All told, I would go back. The atmosphere was great and the food was creative so it is a good choice for a small group or a date. read more

Nice and cozy restaurant in Mesa Main Street. It's a rather small restaurant with good ambiance and decor. The menu is short and sweet with two sections: Del Mar and Del Rancho. We had their ceviche mixto and it was fresh and delicious. It had cooked shrimp, shrimp crudo, pescado, pulpo, cucumber, red onion, serrano pepper, cilantro, and chiltepin shrimp broth. Coming back again for this one! We also had the chef special and it was cooked to perfection. Their cocktail menu is divided into 6 sections and all include a wide selection to choose from. Their presentations and names are very creative. I ordered "Los Caídos" which was had coconut oil fat washed mezcal, Oaxacan rum, triple sec, velvet falernum, Jamaica pecan orgeat, Creme de coconut, lime juice, pineapple juice, Tiki bitters and aromatic bitters.
