Winter tasting menu 2023
Hiromi R.

A long-anticipated visit to the famous Jean-Georges. The restaurant is nestled in the well-known Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills. The interior is beautifully decorated with high ceilings and chandeliers, with the bar to the left and a dimly-lit, romantic dining room to the right. The restaurant is rather spacious, with booths by the walls, and tables in the center. Service was excellent. Staff was attentive and always made sure that my glass was full. She checked in whenever necessary and it did not feel over bearing. It was just the right amount of attention. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I went with their Winter Tasting Menu, without the wine pairing ($180). Course 1: toasted egg yolk with caviar By far, my favorite of the six courses. There were three egg yolks sandwiches between two, lightly toasted crisps, topped with a bed of caviar on the top. Flavor was light, well-balanced, and it had me craving for more. Fantastic little dish to kick off the meal. Course 2: cured sea trout with butternut juice lime sauce. This was similar to salmon sashimi slices, made out to look like a rose, with sauce on the bottom. Again, a fairly light dish and it had a hint of lemongrass. I enjoyed this dish. Course 3: cheese ravioli with basil butter Parmesan. Sadly, course 3 is where the experience started to normalize. It was cheese ravioli that was just, well, cheese ravioli. It didn't blow my mind, it was exactly what the dish described. Course 4: striped bass with fragrant coconut juice A little bland and could've used a bit more flavor. The fish also felt a bit too overdone to me, as I usually like my bass a bit softer and falling-off-my-knife texture. Again, will probably forget about this dish after writing about it. Course 5: toasted wagyu beef tenderloin I asked for medium rare but the small portion of meat was presented to me in medium. Despite this, this was very good, and the accompanying vegetables were also flavorful. Broccoli was slightly salty. Course 6: molten chocolate cake Very kind that the restaurant included birthday wishes on my dessert. It was a molten chocolate cake that was, indeed, a molten chocolate cake, with nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, it was a good experience, however I will likely not return. For this price, it was to be expected, if not better, but now that I've crossed Jean-Georges off of my list, I will likely be taking my dollars to a different fine-dining restaurant. I think it's worth a visit, but should not be on top of must-visit list. But glad I went!

A beautiful restaurant at the happening location of Beverly hills. The restaurant is inside the Waldorf Astoria hotel. The interiors look immaculate, warm, and welcoming. It was a vendor sponsored event, and so I got to taste their 4 course meal. The service is top-notch, very courteous, and attentive. The rooftop visit is a must, do not miss the breathtaking view of Hollywood from there. The food tasted very good, high quality and very fresh. Definitely recommend it if you are going to take your family or friends for an upscale dining place. The salad and the butternut squash soup was delicious.

Beautiful restaurant. We had dinner here while staying at the Waldorf. We have two kids so we didn't want to leave the hotel to eat anywhere else. Usually restaurants in the hotel are not special but the food here was quite good. It was expensive but it was expected. Service was great. I was hesitated to try because reading so many negative reviews but I'm glad we decided to dine here.

Butternut squash soup-- EXCELLENT, a must have!
Angie A.

I will start by saying: the BEST BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP we have ever had! It was savory with bits of crunch from sunflower seeds and just the right subtle amount of sweetness; perfection. While the menu changes often, you should definitely try if available. Other than that though, everything else was just okay, nothing I would specifically return for as a foodie. The mushroom crusted salmon was cooked perfectly though. Brussel sprout side (balsamic glaze with avocado pieces) was also worth ordering again. The service was SOO SLOW though, wow. Good convenient place to eat if you are staying at the Waldorf visiting, but if you live here, time and money is better spent on the rooftop-- better menu in my opinion, and obv can't beat the vibe/view.

French toast and avocado toast

We tried several of their breakfast items on multiple days during our stay; both sit down and breakfast take out to eat in room. Nothing spectacular to note about the breakfast menu items except that they all tasted good (avo toast, egg sandwich, oatmeal, pancakes, French toast...). Expensive, but you're paying for the name and the hotel it's in. We went for dinner and tried the tasting. We had high expectations since we have been to the Jean-Georges in NY. It started great with hubby's cocktail and my mocktail. Toasted egg yolk topped with caviar was amazing!! My toddler was fighting over the rest of my half lol from there, food went downhill. Roasted wagyu beef tenderloin (medium) was a tad dry. The rest of the dishes were ok. Not worth the price, but they offered us a 50% off on everything except liquor when we checked-in days earlier. Without it, we definitely would not have went.

Flawless from start to finish. The hotel looked beautiful with the holiday decorations. Classy, sophisticated, and elegant. Restaurant was lovely - quiet, cozy and peaceful. The server was friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed a light breakfast - fresh and perfectly made. Easily one of the most enjoyable breakfasts I've had in LA.

Lava cake
Emily C.

We dined here right before COVID hit. While we were waiting for our table to be set up, we enjoyed the nice ambiance and relaxing piano music that was being played. I had the red snapper and got a scale in my first bite so I just took off the skin and didn't get to enjoy the crust. My fiance got a steak and it was pretty good, but I've had better elsewhere. My fiance told me the molten lava cake was claimed to have been invented by Jean-Georges, so we just had to order it even though we were pretty full already. My second stomach really enjoyed it. Bill was our server and I felt like he just did the bare minimum for us. For a place like Jean-Georges, I expected exceptional service. That's what the table next to us received, but we got none of that. We didn't even get the little dessert box that other tables got. Sadly, the ambiance, decor, and floral arrangements were more memorable than the food.

Course 2: Madai Ceviche
Linda K.

We chose the seasonal menu called Taste of Spring, which was $180 a person with 6 courses. The first course was called Toasted Egg Yolk Caviar, made with Kaviari Kristal caviar. The caviar tasted amazing. The eggs were perfectly soft but not runny. This was the best course of the night. The second course was Madai Ceviche, with rhubarb juice, red onion, and avocado. Madai is a red seabream fish from Japan. This course tasted great - it was light and delicious, but nothing particularly special about it. It tasted like an upper end sushi restaurant's yellowtail ceviche. Course 3: Spring Pea Potstickers These Spring Pea Potstickers were so tasty, but it was a little too salty for my personal preference. Course 4: Striped Bass. The striped bass is accompanied with spring garlic-lemon nage, silky fava beans and artichoke hearts. The nage broth and fava beans were amazing. The striped bass was average because the skin was overfried. The artichoke hearts had many unchewable pieces, which should not ever happen at a restaurant of this caliber. Course 5 was a roasted wagyu beef tenderloin with white asparagus and buttery hot sauce. At least that's what the menu says. The beef was very tender, as expected, but it had VERY little flavor. I don't like my beef to be seasoned much, but this beef had almost no flavor at all. The sauce was not buttery or hot, it was very citrusy. Last course, the dessert, Molten Chocolate Cake with Vanilla bean ice cream. This was amazing. The restaurant was beautiful and the service was impeccable. Compare to most other Michelin level restaurants we've partaken, most of the courses did not feel up to par.

Lemon drop.

Outstanding on so many levels! From the greeting to our good bye 5*. We were well-greeted by the manager Greg for our 8Pm reservation. Greg showed up to our table & was happy to have us back. Our server William was so attentive, knowledgeable and always smiled which is very important to me. He was genuine & super competent in his profession. Jorge at the bar makes a delicious lemon drop cocktail. I had the roasted salmon and the Caesar salad was the best I have ever eaten. The sunset was literally a bonus on this perfect evening. Shout out to Adriane too. He was such a sweetheart!

Katie S.

Beautiful restaurant! Always love to come back here. Chill and friendly service as always! tried their tasting menu, The toasted egg yolk with caviar is pretty good! (reasonable price in my opinion). valet parking at the hotel entrance.

Calamari with frothy citrus chili dip
Louis C.

We were in the neighborhood and decided to check out the new Waldorf-Astoria and grab lunch at Jean-George BH. The hotel has a boutique feel and Jean-George's ambience feels like a typical dining room in a high-end hotel. It sort of lacked the pizazz of JG of Tokyo or NYC. The service was just as impeccable as any other JG locations. Our waiter took the time to make sure the poached egg in one of dishes was cooked for exactly 3 minutes per our request. The food was good but not quite as impressive as I'd expect from a JG restaurant. The complementary scones were petite but good and served with regular or lemon butter. The kale and broccoli salad with a poached egg was refreshing but a little light on flavors. The calamari was lightly battered, quickly fried and served with a frothy citrus chili dip - nicely done. The salmon with corn "pudding" was well cooked with a crispy crust but kept medium rare on the inside. The veal Milanese was a bit of letdown. A typical Milanese would be lighted fried with a fine bread crumb coating. This one had a thick and puffy batter like that of a bad tempura. The lemon meringue tart was average and the Meyer lemon sorbet seemed a bit redundant rather than complementary. As the birthplace of the molten chocolate cake, JG naturally served an excellent rendition of the dessert.

Caviar with herb panna cotta
Susan L.

Service was amazing, 5 stars. Very attentive, friendly, without being overbearing. Food on the other hand was 2 stars. Not nearly worth the price. Extremely disappointing. Some dishes had no flavor. Other dishes had vinegar or herb flavors overpowering the main ingredients of the dish. Quality felt low, wagyu was the worst I've ever had. Snapper skin wasn't crispy. Pretzel rolls were rock hard. Meringue was chewy. Everything was off. We went to the NY location many years ago and this was nowhere near the same caliber. It's too bad, I really wanted to like this place, but there's much better restaurants to spend this kind of money in the area.

Raspberry Bellini
Lily M.

Jean-George's service is top notch. The ambiance is upscale & pleasant. It was my first time there, so I took a seat at the bar. I was greeted by a beautiful brunette bartender. She recommended the raspberry Bellini, which was a 10/10. Look forward to coming back.

Every time I've been, the waiters, service and management have been so nice and come check on you constantly. There are several sections in the restaurant (I think 3 but I could be wrong), but we've dined in the main room which has a retractable ceiling for when it's too sunny out, they have a bar area that has a small little lounge section in the back of it, and it looks like there may be another section that I haven't been to. The place definitely gives off those Latin vibes and you feel it once you arrive. As for the food, my boss ordered appetizers for the table, which were shrimp tacos, flautas, and empanadas which were all very good! My favorite were the flautas with guac. For my main dish I went with the Chilean sea bass with a side of broccolini and rice. That sea bass was phenomenal! It had a nice sweet glaze on it with a very slit crisp texture on the top. One of the best! The Hideaway goes down as one of my favorite spots in Beverly Hills and I highly recommend checking it out. OOOOO 5 out of 5 Afros

I like the dark vibe it has going though. The most frustrating part of it all? Servers came off super pretentious and would intentionally walk by your table without looking to avoid you asking them anything. Moreover, the place doesn't let you make many changes to your order. For example, if you ask for easy rice on the sushi, they will say no. If you ask for them to put the avocado on the side due to an allergy of one member of the group, they will say no. Our items came out SUPER slow, and this was after waiting a while for a table. The sushi is subpar - heavy on the rice and not enough fish. However, the coconut shrimp roll was good. That all being said, I'd go back and deal with it all again for the chicken sandwich and the burger. Both were a bit heavy on the bread in comparison to the protein, but delicious nonetheless.

On multiple occasions, Elton has given me poor service and a noticeable attitude. I chose to overlook it at first, but eventually I brought it to management's attention because the treatment was consistent and unacceptable. After that complaint, the situation escalated. When I returned, Elton refused to serve me altogether. He would not look at me, acknowledge me, or take my order. I was left sitting there while being completely ignored. It became so obvious that other guests sitting next to me noticed and were concerned enough to step in and ask him why I wasn't being helped and to tell him to serve me. That should never have to happen. I then asked for the manager I had previously spoken to, Leo, because I wanted to understand what was going on. I still have not received any clear explanation. What's most concerning is that this behavior feels intentional. No employee in hospitality gets to decide who they will or will not serve based on personal feelings. If a staff member's feelings are "hurt" after a complaint, that does not justify refusing service to a guest. That is not professionalism--that is the opposite of hospitality. It was honestly disturbing enough that the people next to me told me directly that it didn't feel right and that I shouldn't come back because it seemed like I wasn't wanted there. That is not okay, especially at an establishment of this caliber. I am actively trying to get in touch with someone at the hotel who can properly address this situation, because this needs to be taken seriously. No guest should ever feel ignored, singled out, or unwelcome in this way.

From the moment we stepped through the door, the experience was a 1 million out of 10. Every course is unbelievable. This is a caviar tasting in the best way -- all nine courses are topped with generous helpings of delicious N25 caviar. You get sweet, salty, savory, comfort food, upscale dining, everything comes together in the absolute best way. I especially loved the deconstructed deviled egg and the lobster roll, and the ice cream was some of the best I've ever had. The chips and dip came with the cutest miniature potato chips (although I'll admit I could have used a few more), and the caviar salmon burger was super flavorful. And, true to their word, they surprised my mom with a birthday cake -- and then surprised us both with complimentary lychee cocktails! The service was impeccable as well. Each person on the waitstaff was kind, helpful, and accommodating. We loved how descriptive they were of each dish. It was also really nice of them to decide to give us an extra 2-top so we would have room for all of the courses. This is not only an incredible tasting menu, but made even more incredible by the price. 10 courses and a glass of champagne are $85. I was honestly shocked at how much we received for under $100. The Host welcomed us graciously, wished us a Happy Anniversary, and seated us immediately at a cozy table in the corner of the busy dining room. The serving team quickly approached, filling our water glasses and again welcoming us with big smiles. We'd had some cocktails before arriving, so my wife decided to stick with a Diet Coke for dinner, but I ordered a martini that was perfectly poured, icy cold, and topped with very fresh, blue cheese olives--a great start. Interestingly, Matu does not offer a filet mignon à la carte. The only way to order a filet (my wife's favorite cut) is to order the Filet Dinner, which is a 4-course tasting menu. Perhaps they just can't get enough filet at the quality they insist on -- I don't know -- but we decided to order the Filet Dinner and share the intermediary courses, with me ordering a small Ribeye and Creamed Spinach as my entree. The meal begins with a small cup of 24-hour Bone Broth that arrives steaming hot and packed with beefy flavor. The rich broth actually coats your tongue a bit, and the flavor lingers nicely. Next would have been Steak Tartare, but my wife substituted the Japanese Caesar, which was exceptionally tasty, with flavors in the dressing I simply couldn't place, but would happily eat for days. The last of the appetizers was a duo of Beef Croquettas -- also rich and flavorful with a savory sauce that amped up the richness even further. I don't know if I could eat an entire order (the full appetizer comes with 4 croquettas). Finally, on to the steak. My wife's Filet was melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a deep flavor. My own Ribeye was equally tender, with a rich flavor from the marbling. Both steaks were served the house way, which is warm and red in the middle, with a lovely crust from live fire. These folks know how to make a steak, that's for sure. Creamed spinach was much the same as most places... still, very satisfying and a great accompaniment. For dessert, we ordered the Strawberry Panna Cotta, which was served with a celebratory candle for our anniversary. Mildly sweet with a slight tang from the berries, this was a light and refreshing way to cap the meal. I have to say, this was an excellent dinner with fine service in a wonderful atmosphere. Additionally, the prices are quite reasonable for the location and the quality of the food, and our dinner here was $200 LESS than our Valentine's dinner at Cipriani, so I have to say this would be your much better bet for a celebratory night out. Though my wife insists we come back soon for lunch so she can get that amazing cheesesteak... and I'm totally willing to join her LOL!

The food wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't worth the price, and the plating was poorly done. Nothing really surprised me except the automatic 18% gratuity.

The ambiance is beautiful, and the service FANTASTIC. Our server was an absolute gem, I am so sad I forgot it. The Roofop is the kind of spot that feels lively but still relaxed enough to enjoy a long dinner with friends. The food was good, though I've definitely had better for the price. Nothing was bad at all, just not quite as memorable as I expected. The drinks, however, were fantastic. I'm not much of a drinker, but I ordered a martini and it was absolutely delicious and perfectly made. Also, the coffee I happened to order a latte and no joke one of the top coffees I had. Lots of nice photo spots. I would love to come during the day and try their brunch. Between the vibe, the attentive service, and the great cocktails, we had a really fun night. I'd come back again, especially for drinks and the atmosphere.
