This place is not for everyone and that is honestly part of the appeal. I came alone and was seated right away, most likely because it is a small space. The hostess or employee sat me down, and I took a seat at the bar. I was immediately given water and a menu, which felt easy and welcoming. This is not a "background music while you catch up" kind of bar. The music is the experience, inspired by Japanese listening bars. The sound is intentional, the vinyl selections feel curated, and the space encourages you to slow down and be present. Located in the Arts District of the Santa Fe neighborhood, ESP HiFi is walk in only, so arriving early is a good idea since it fills up quickly. The menu includes seasonal cocktails, highballs, natural wine, warm drinks, non alcoholic options, and small bites, with tastings focused on Japanese whiskey and mezcal. I had a walnut mezcal based cocktail, and ordered olives and Marcona almonds as a snack, all of which fit the vibe perfectly. They also offer a daily happy hour or "social hour" from 4 to 5pm. It was also fun watching the mixologist seamlessly switch between making drinks and DJing, which added to the experience. Yes, it is dark inside, but that is part of the atmosphere. The staff is not overly talkative, but the music is the whole point here, and that focus feels intentional. It is a popular spot and definitely gives hipster energy, but in a self aware, well executed way. If you are expecting a loud, social cocktail lounge, this is not it. If you appreciate good sound and a focused atmosphere, you will enjoy it. Not trying to please everyone. Just doing its thing and doing it well. read more

ESP Hi-Fi is *her* - the kind of place that immediately sets the tone. Went on a Friday night for a date and everything just clicked. We waited only about 10 minutes to be seated at the bar, which already felt like a small miracle for a weekend night in Denver. The interior is dark, intimate, and beautifully understated - romantic without feeling forced. The music (on vinyl btw) is impeccable and intentionally curated, the kind you actually feel, not just hear. Pair that with an excellent wine selection and you've got a space that's clearly designed for slowing down and being present. No distractions, just great sound, great drinks, and great energy. ESP HiFi when I went was almost a spa like vibe in here. The person working here was lovely. But I will say there's quite a few people in here working alone on a laptop and must go for the quiet ambience. I was meeting a friend here and we chatted very quietly and decided to move to a corner seat to not disturb anyone ...and a man next to us loudly said "please do" lol. I was a little taken back as we were super quiet and said like 1 sentence to each other at that point. Maybe it was just the time of the day? But either way definitely something important to know before going. But we moved and chatted (quietly lol) and had our tea and it was lovely. I just attended a private event here and it was such a gorgeous venue! Apparently the sound system cost like 15k (could be lore, I don't know), but the music was flowing and the drinks were delicious. I personally only sampled the NA cocktails that were created for the event, and they were both delicious!! Others said their real cocktails were also amazing. Another guest mentioned they don't take reservations, but that you can always get a table if you just stop in. I would definitely come back on a date or with friends! Such an aesthetic! read more

This may be one of the coolest bars that I've been to recently. The vibe of the place is completely unmatched. Dimly lit, with atmospheric music and a whiff of incense in the air. Wine selection was excellent, as was the whisky selection. If you want an authentic highball (with the hyper carbonated water) this is your place. This is a cool spot for libations, light bites, subtle lighting, and cool decor. I came here for drinks with a friend. He somehow always knows all the new hot spots in Denver. We came here for drinks after dinner. I had the Sundown Lady - rye whiskey, oolong, sesame, honey, lemon. He had the Phantom Mood - shochu, melon, calico, lemon, soda. My drink was strong and well blended. I liked my friend's drink more due to the taste of the lemon and the soda. It tasted so good. Definitely a nice place to meet up with friends. I must've gone on an off night after reading the other reviews. Took a date there having heard how awesome it is. Unfortunately,it was really really really loud. I go to a concert a week almost and it was just below that level. Super hard to hear anything else. Which is fine, it just wasn't date night vibes. Our flight was delayed and we were looking for a place we could burn some time. Found this place on yelp and had to surprise my husband as he LOVES natural wine and records. The outside is super in cognido and when you open the door you enter a whole different world. Super cozy with vintage vibes, low lighting ambience and some of the best hits from someone who knows how to read the room on the crowd. Beyond wine they had cocktails, mocktails, bottles to take home with you. We also got a small charcuterie board you can find at the back of the menu. What a great time we had! Their beverage program is full of Japanese whiskey, wine, and perfectly balanced cocktails. The lighting is low and it lets you pull the focus of anything else and just stay in the moment. We love a tucked away hidden gem like ESP Hifi. As a vinyl junkie and record collector, I'm so happy places like this exist in my own backyard. ESP is a listening bar. That might be confusing to some, but in reality they're putting the music first here. Music adds ambiance to any bar or restaurant on the planet, right? Here it truly takes center stage. And in all honesty, this might be the best sound system I've ever heard inside of a bar. The atmosphere leans on the hipster/trendy side, though you'll notice a wide ranging clientele of ages. When ESP opened they were more of a coffee shop (which I admittedly miss). Now it's a bar that opens at 4pm daily. Natural wines, spirits, highballs, and a few specialty cocktails grace the simple, yet robust menu. The ESP Classic is their Japanese highball with "extra carbonated soda" and it's one of the better highballs you'll ever have. The only problem is that's it's TOO EASY TO DRINK. I guess it's a good problem to have?! ESP is an aesthetically pleasing environment that is a great place to sit back and listen, take out a date, or spark exciting conversations. It's evident that this low-light, high-brow wine and cocktail bar has done the work to create a beautiful experience. I visited ESP Hifi a few weeks ago on a first date and the setting was perfect. Sultry but casual, the interior is minimally decorated. The showstopper of this lounge is their extensive collection of vinyl records, the main source of entertainment besides the company you keep. The only thing that left room to be desired was the service. This being a first date experience, we didn't want to drink too much. I did, however, feel pressured by the server to order more drinks. On top of that, we felt neglected. We had to ask for menus while other tables were given menus upon entry and had to flag down the server to receive service. Granted, every night is different and everyone has things going on behind the scenes. Overall, I would happily return to this establishment. This is the ideal hi-fi bar. The plants, light wood, warm lighting and music make it great for both a coffee with friends or a drink with a date. I wish I were closer because this would become my third place if I was. We didn't go for drinks but did for the bread and jam. It seemed steep at first for just being bread and jam but it was well worth the price. The jam was a homemade apricot that was the perfect balance of sweat and tangy and the bread was warm and fluffy. It came with salted butter as well which was the icing on the cake. I started the night with the esp classic highball and if you are a fan of strong drinks with a hint of citrus, like me, then you will definitely enjoy this drink. But my favorite drink of the night was the Ichiro's malt & grain on the rocks (something to note putting it on the rocks is an added $2). This Japanese whiskey was very unique and so smooth with notes of honey and pink peppercorn! Highly recommend coming here with friends or for a date night!
