Virginia Code § 59.1-608 requires businesses displaying a price to clearly and conspicuously display the total price, including mandatory fees or surcharges. Virginia law specifically defines mandatory fees as additional charges that must be paid to purchase the advertised goods or services. I have photographs of the posted menu and ordering area, as well as my receipt showing the additional 3.5% charge. I am asking Falafel Inc. management to review this practice and bring its pricing and fee disclosure into compliance with Virginia law. Customers should know the actual mandatory charges before they place and pay for their order, not after the fee has already been added to the bill.
