They often ran out of the eggplant side which is my favorite before but not for the past few months. My favorite place for afghan kabobs! The lunch specials is a good deal with a generous portion of food. I love how flavorful their shami is!! Their spinach/sabzi is delicious too- most of the time, I'm motivated to order here for just the sabzi itself. It takes a while after ordering to get your food because they cook to order. If speed is your game, this place is not for you if you're in a rush! The food took a little while to come out but it's worth the wait. While you wait for your food you are entertained by the tv playing music videos and the great interior design of Mazar Kabob! Had a great experience at this restaurant! I got the boneless chicken kabob lunch special. Really enjoyed everything that came in the platter. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The veggies had some good seasoning to it. Really also liked the rice and bread that came with this platter. Also got spinach as a side for this dish, and it was decent. I was particularly impressed by the value of this platter. This lunch special cost $10, and if you weren't very hungry, you could probably split it with another person. So, excellent value! Overall, the food at this restaurant was delicious and I highly recommend trying this place out. read more

I visited Mazar Kabob and ordered the Lamb and Shami Combo with lamb curry. However, after returning to the office, I realized they had given me chicken and Shami with spinach instead. The next day, since I was at the Panda Express next door, I went in to inform them about the mix up, but the staff was dismissive and didn't offer any resolution. Very disappointing experience, and the food was average at best. It's recommended to call ahead to reduce what can otherwise be a moderate wait time (you are issued a number and can pay when you arrive). Sometimes they offer you a small cup of soup while you wait. My chicken kabob, rice, and naan are always excellent. The side salad is average and wouldn't be missed. The seating arrangement needs improvement. Expect to sink down into the booths. On my last visit, next to some tables there was a loud standalone air conditioner (hopefully temporary) attached to flex duct hanging from the ceiling. Staff is friendly however I don't think I'd return or recommend. . The lamb was quite tough. The chickpeas didn't seem fresh and weren't very flavorful. The chicken was ok. The bread was hot and fresh which I liked but not enough to justify driving out to get food from here. The shrimp was terrible. They say it's grilled but it came straight out of a fryer. I've tried a lot of kabob in northern Virginia and I'd say Mazar has some of the best. Sure the prices are a little high, but they're high everywhere (kabob ain't cheap these days) and I always find the portions to be quite sizable (again, compared to other places like those big chains).
