I've been looking for a good xiao long bao. I love Din Tai Fung, but the wait is always horrendous. I've also tried take out there, and it's not great. In the Cupertino area, there are a few XLB places that have been at the top of my to-try list for awhile - Epic, XLB Kitchen, Dough Zone, and Joy Dumpling. 1. Din Tai Fung - the best, extremely juicy, delicate wrapper 2. Dough Zone 3. Epic / Joy Dumpling - just OK 4. XLB Kitchen - way too sweet. Also, crazy lines even during COVID! Overall, a solid place you can just walk in (on a weekday) for dumplings. Don't recommend ordering the XLBs to go, because they don't steam up the same at home. came specifically for the green onion pancakes which were great - they are doughy yet still have a nice crust. the beef chow fun was flavorful but mongolian beef was the better of the two. the mongolian beef is super tender and has a nice spice to it (does not come w rice, so order separately). they also recently added chocolate xiao long bao, which were filled with milk, dark and white chocolate - would probably not order this one again but was great to try. overall solid food and would recommend. read more

The food lost their crispiness during my return trip home, but was still scrumptious. ----- Shanghai Pan Fried Soup Dumpling (上海煎包): comes with six ($9.99). The dough was chewy and the pork filling was good. Since I didn't eat them immediately, there wasn't as much soup inside. ----- Pineapple Shrimp (菠萝虾) ($13.99). An adequate portion of shrimp that was cooked nicely with a sweet and tangy taste. It had pieces of bell pepper and onion too. ----- Green Chives Pancakes (韭菜盒子): comes with two ($7.99). I liked this one the most as the green chives were so flavorful. ----- The business was open for dine-in with limited seating capacity across three wide tables. Had i wrote this review based on my first visit it would be a solid 5 stars. I came back here specificially for the Golden fried chicken wings. Which is fried chicken tossed in salted egg yolk sauce. It wasn't on the menu in the restaurant but it's on the togo menu on the webiste. Our server, he got it to us. Though this time it wasn't smooth and coated well it was lacking the umami and salt that i was hoping for. The other dishes did very well. We had the fried pork chop over rice and the fried chicken over rice. both are delicious. Until my next visit to see which experience was a fluke. read more

We were in the hunt of the juiciest and most flavorful xlb in south bay area. With the growing asian community here in Bay Area, you will find a lot of dumpling and xlb places that you want to try. Epic Dumpling is located in the heart of Sunnyvale. The place is most likely a hole in the wall kinda place, but this has never been an issue for me since I grew up eating hole in the wall places to hunt down the most tastiest food. I actually expect more from this place. Here's the reason why. What we ordered: 1. Pork and shrimp shiumai. It's was juicy, the shrimp portion outweighs the pork portion which was good. However I felt their skin was a bit too thick. Maybe it will be slightly better if the skin is thinner? Taste wise- I've had better. But they were still good, however, just like any regular shiumai. And a bit bland. 2. Xlb. Yeah. I wish their skin is a bit thinner. Meat portion was just okay. Juice inside kinda of flavorful but not the best I've had. Would I give them a second try? Yes, I would. I was actually more giving them a 3.5 stars rather than 3 flat stars. 3. Fried Tofu. The best appetizer from them. Tofu was so crunchy and the seasoning were just perfect. Not too salty yet not too sweet. The green onion on top adds the perfect crunch. 4. Dandan Noodle. We actually had their veggie dandan noodle with cucumbers. It was okay. The sauce was not too tangy. Noodle was on the perfect mark chewiness. However, I would order this dish again in the future. In conclusion, this place is a perfect place to get lunch or dinner takeouts during weekdays. The last time i was here it was during the throng if the pandemic and we only picked up but this time, we are dining in. Epic is a Shanghai style dumplings and if you have been to the native city you'd understand the significance of soup dumplings. The number 1 on their dimsum menu is my favorite followed by their marinated pig ear and the spicy beef tendon. You can order using a QR code before you are seated or you can wait to have a friendly server attend to your needs. First time eating here. The pan fried dumplings were fantastic, meat was juicy and soup inside was flavorful. Dough wasn't too chewy and all the elements went well together. Pancake was also pretty good, the actual pancake roll was great. Flaky and crunchy but also a bit chewy. Wish the filling was a little better, felt there was too much sauce and meat wasn't very tender. Tried some of my friend's chow mein, some of the best chow mein I've had. Will be getting that next time I'm here. Main reason preventing this from being a 5 star review is that it is a bit expensive to have a truly filling meal. Digitally stumbled up on this place after exercising nearby and hungry. XLB is one of my daughter's faves so we gave it a go. It was very hot day, and they don't have AC (although the dine in still managed to be full), so we opted to take out. We tried the pan fried XLB and the Dan Dan noodles. While waiting, my daughter loved watching the lady wrap the dumplings (perfectly I might add). She only took a break to offer my daughter some candy! The order was ready almost exactly per their 15 minute estimate. The dan dan was really good! I got a meal and a half out of it. The sauce, which included a peanut slightly spicy sauce, and a much spicier sauce, were really good. It might be a tad overly sweet to some but for me it was good. The XLB were large. The soup inside had gotten absorbed into the peel so unfortunately there wasn't much of that. But my daughter liked everything else about it. The place was very hopping on a friday night and I noticed as people were leaving, they complimented the owner saying the food was really good. Soo, we'll be back! read more

Customer service was lacking and the lady cleaning up took my plate, without even asking if I was done or still working on it...and I was still working on it. Ambiance was nothing fancy since it seems like they're more of a takeout restaurant anyway. The thing that really disappointed me was their soup dumplings. It seems like the quality has gone down a lot. The soup dumplings during my recent visit, had little to no soup in it. Most was really dry and not plump at all. I also didn't see their Cantonese shrimp dumplings on the menu so not sure if they permanently took that item out. I did enjoy their sesame red bean ball. It was crunchy and just the right amount of red bean. I also ordered the chili oil wontons and that was pretty good. Definitely on the spicier side compared to Din Tai Fung. read more

Epic dumpling provides an average Shanghai Dim Sum experience for a good price. The XLBs are not exactly traditionally sized. Too large, skin too thick. This would be okay if there was a good amount of flavour but the meat and soup tasted a bit bland. At 7 dollars though, it's not bad for a cheap eat. The pan fried bun were quite disappointing. Overwhelmingly lacking on the soup side, and the bottom was soft and soggy. More dough than anything here. At 10 dollars for 6 of these, it is approaching unreasonably priced for the value here. The walnut shrimp were dry, and only had a hint of the sweet flavour that one expects from walnut shrimp. Honestly, the walnuts were the best part. The two noodle dishes were okay, but nothing special. We didn't get to try the other dumplings, but based off the XLB alone, Epic dumpling may be a decent choice if you want a cheap soup dumpling option without having to steam it yourself. Other than that, I recommend looking harder for something more appetizing. read more

This place has great vegetarian options - vegetarian dumplings, spring rolls and chowmein and all are perfect. I was on a quest for soup dumplings/xiao long bao and I came across this Epic dumpling. Did I find THE soup dumpling?!?! I ordered several items, the pork XLB, the hot and spicy pork dry noodles, the beef pancake roll and spicy wontons. XLBs- they were okay. I was slightly expecting an umami bomb gushing in my mouth but it was kind of underwhelming. There was soup, but it didn't quite live up to what I had built it up to be in my head. Hot and spicy pork dry noodles- these were also okay. It wasn't as spicy as I hoped it would be, there were chunks or pork and veggies mixed in with the sauce which I loved, but the sauce itself was slightly too salty. BUT, the noodles were super al dente. Beef pancake roll- this item was decent. The pancake was nice and crispy, the beef was really tender and had a slightly sweet taste to it. The cucumbers come up the rear and adds an refreshing and crunch factor to the overall roll. Spicy wontons- my favorite thing here. It had a mala(numbing) spice to it and the wontons themselves were extremely flavorful. Skin had a really good texture and was able to soak up all the spicy sauce/oil that was cooked with it. YUMMY. I'm always on the hunt for some good dumps and noodles. This place was delicious. It was awesome to see that they were making the dumplings there. Next time I come to South Bay, I may need to get some of the frozen ones. For two people, we ordered A LOT. I think the sad thing is we ate all of it. Ever last piece. If that's not a testament to how good this is, not sure what is. - beef pancake: YAS it was flavorful, perfectly chewy on the outside. The meat was also so incredibly tender. - soup dumplings: I didn't take a picture but these were quite good. They had a moderate amount of soup in them. Pretty tasty. - pan fried dumpling: these were good. Just don't bite into them the second you get them. It WILL burn your mouth lol. - shrimp and pork spicy wontons: I was hoping it would have a more strong chili oil taste like the wontons from din tai fung. This is the only item I may not get again. Went a few weeks ago. The wait staff was great; friendly and came around regularly. However the food was just average at best. Ordered the XLB, Pan Fried Dumplings, pork and Cabbage Dumplings, Taiwanese Braised Pork Fresh Noodle and Saute Pea Shoots with Garlic. The best dish out of all of them were the pea shoots which is kind of sad given it's a dumpling place and we tried all the dumpling varieties. The dumplings were just very doughy and bland, especially the XLB, which is sad since I wanted to like the place. The fresh noodle dish, the noodles themselves were cooked well (enough chew and bite) but again the braised pork and rest of the ingredients fell flat, had to add a ton of the pickled mustard greens to taste anything I may go back to try them again in hopes that it's better, but as of right now probably won't and wouldn't recommend read more

I almost want to keep this place a secret because it's that good! We have lots of dumpling choices in the area, especially Sunnyvale but Epic Dumpling is so much more. It doesn't look like much from The outside, located in a strip mall. But there's plenty of seating inside. Clean and organized, you order either through the app or with a server. We received a call a few minutes after ordering to inform us they didn't have chicken feet tonight, so we asked for it to be removed from the order. The food overall was okay! My favorite was the shrimp dumplings with large pieces of shrimp inside. The shu mai was fairly standard. The walnut shrimp was okay, but I did appreciate the sauce being packed on the side as the shrimp didn't get soggy on the ride home. The salt and pepper fish was not my favorite - it was very batter-heavy with little fish inside and tasted overdone. My friends said the pork buns were good! I was honestly very excited to try this place because of all the great reviews... but unfortunately the staff was so unprofessional and dismissive that it made the experience so disappointing. First, we walked in to see both of the servers on their phones not paying attention, which is fine, it was slow and I get it, but I said "hello" once and was ignored. I then said "hello" again and they looked up and told us to just sit wherever. Second, when we sat down, they didn't welcome us in and inform us that we had to order through our phones via QR code, which I thought would've been nice to know so that we wouldn't be staring at each other confused as to why the server walked away immediately. Third, they only came by to drop food, never once asked if we were okay or if we needed anything. Fourth, while we were eating, they also decided to go back on their phones and make a plate from the kitchen and ate it two tables over. More people walked in looking for a table but they did not bother to get up and just told them to sit wherever, just like they did with me. Lastly, they hurried over to pick up the merchant copy of the signed check to only be disappointed by the amount and proceeded to talk badly about us after. I work in the restaurant industry for 6 years now and understand how important it is to try to be attentive and give quality service, especially when the food is so good!!! XLB overall was okay, I wasn't too crazy about it. The Har Gow was well made. The wrap had that classic qq that I look for in a good har gow. The shrimp filling was very good as well. I'll order this again! The Sichuan Wontons also lived up to my expectations. The sauce had good hints of Sichuan peppercorns. I'd reorder this as well! I wasn't a huge fan of the beef rolls. So good, we ate here twice in one week! We ordered way too much food on our first visit, but immediately went back after we were done with our leftovers, so we could share this place with our family. Takeout is super convenient, as you can order through Yelp. My favorites were the green onion pancake with egg and the Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The green onion pancake was crispy and I loved the sweet plum sauce paired with the savory egg. The popcorn chicken was extremely flavorful and well marinated. Their steamed pork bun is fresh and delicious and we also enjoyed the shumai, chili wontons, and xlb. We will definitely be returning again soon! read more

The salt and pepper pork chop was seasoned but didn't taste salty or peppery-just curry like (even yellow in color). It was tossed with onions and jalapeños. The only saving Grace was that it was crispy. The beef chow fun was greasy, bland, and lacking wok hei. There was no green onions present... only a little bit of bean sprouts and onions. The steamed pork buns were okay according to my husband and son. Not too sweet and not overpowering in pork smell. The xlbs were the best thing the family ate but took the longest to come out. This place had lots of excellent Yelp reviews and lots of high ratings and I found them to be well deserved! The restaurant's owner, Kenny was very nice and made some great suggestions for my dinner which are all pictured besides the soup dumplings. I loved their har gow Dumplings (listed on their menu as Cantonese Shrimp Dumplings)! The har gow wrapping was nice and thin allowing the full flavor profile to be enjoyed (most places use super thick har gow which diminishes the flavor). I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered and will definitely be back. A lot of dim sum restaurants only serve the dim sum at the traditional time, mid day. This place serves it even at night which is easier for me to attend. The restaurant interior was clean and comfortable and I enjoyed watching the never ending steam of patrons picking up to-go orders.
