The building itself is super cool, the old mill really gives a cozy rustic vibe to the restaurant and the art and random pieces of equipment around the restaurant are super cool. Lots of seating - we had a reservation and I'd definitely recommend having one if you're going to try it out. I can imagine it gets busy. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and explained that the food is best for sharing. She gave us lots of recs and brought the food out as soon as it was ready and hot! They are constantly changing the menu so I'm not able to find the exactly names of the plates that we shared. We got a poke appetizer, mini tacos/pulled pork, fish with potatoes, and a pasta dish. For dessert we got the tiramisu which was really tasty. Everything we got was really delicious and generous portions. After dinner we went downstairs for the bar. We got a couple of espresso martinis and an old fashioned and listened to the live music. The music was a bit loud, but it was still a nice vibe to sit and have a drink after a filling meal. Overall, definitely recommend this spot if you live in the area or are passing through!

My honest review of grist. -…read more When we walked in we were met with smiles and hellos, and we instantly took in the vibe. Everyone was relaxed, smiling, and having a good time. The aesthetic did not disappoint either. The restaurant can be simply described with one word: GORGEOUS. We had a drink at the bar, and it was delicious, and then were sat early for our table. Kendra, who was working as support for our waitress Megan, was so sweet and attentive. Megan promptly came over and went through the menu with us and we ordered - Caesar salad for Britt with the porterhouse and beef tartare for me with the Everyday But Sunday Sauce. I was stunned by the quality of food. It was hands down the best beef tartare I have had ANYWHERE. I mean, it was quite literally perfection on a plate. My rigatoni had meatballs that melted in my mouth, the sausage was tasty, and the hunk of pork was fork tender. The sauce itself was perfectly seasoned, the San Marzano tomatoes were beautifully cooked, and I had such a huge portion that a lot of it came home. As for Britt, he loved his Caesar and said the dressing was fantastic, he just personally prefers romaine lettuce over red leaf. The flavor of his steak was mind blowing. The fat was perfectly rendered and it was still cooked expertly at medium rare. Lastly, we got cookies for dessert. Two absolutely perfect peanut butter chip cookies that were lightly salted and served with a glass of milk. Unreal. I got an espresso martini and it was also incredible. Our bartender John should not be overlooked either. Great guy, a true mixologist, and we enjoyed chatting with him after dinner. Britt did go up to the kitchen to give his compliments to the chef, who came out and shook his hand. I wish I took pics other than my martini, but I was too busy stuffing my face with the masterpieces I was being served. We were absolutely blown away.

We both chose the cheese burger with a side of macaroni salad. Normally at a fast food place you cannot get a burger medium rare but here you can. I was surprised it was not over cooked and was tasty. The Mac salad was kinda bland but ok. We split one of their homemade hard ice creams(chocolate almond) and it was amazing! Big portion for a small and loaded with roasted almonds. So many almonds we were in heaven. I would definitely come back if in the area (especially for the ice cream).

My complaint the ice machine near the drink dispensers was empty when we filled our glasses which I filled and sat in a booth. My husband picked up the order and as he was carrying two trays with food he slid and bent backwards to catch his balance straining his back, The ice machine was spewing out ice uncontrollably and was all over the floor. The employee was trying to make it stop. My husband told another employee that ice and water were all over the floor. No one mopped it up, they placed a wet floor sign on another area but not where it was dangerous. His back is strained, pain radiating from center to the left. No one there seemed to have any training in cleaning up spills etc. Several other customers kept telling my husband 'woah! Great save!' As he avoided actually crashing to the ground. It was embarrassing but also troubling enough that they left it like that for someone with less coordination to get seriously injured. What happened to Tom Wahl's? The food, the service, and the safety are all lacking now.

Since it was our first time, they offered a taste that was a full appetizer for the three of us. We had a chicken platter, lamb platter, and a lamb gyro, baklava for desert. It was great, plentiful and tasty. Highly recommend!

The space is sparse inside still, and the sign is just a sandwich board on the sidewalk. They've clearly just taken over the space fairly recently, but don't let that dissuade you! Service was wildly friendly, the owner is really outgoing and welcoming to everyone that comes in the door, and seemed to know quite a few of the locals. Not sure if it was just us or everyone, but he was asking if anyone was half-vegetarian (eats fish apparently) or full-vegetarian, which is The menu isn't very long, but everything we tried was excellent. Falafel had a good mix of soft and crunchy, and wasn't dried out at all. The platter version was definitely plenty of food! The lamb was pretty good as well, but was definitely out-shined for me by the chicken. I was expecting a pretty bland chicken, which is pretty typical for falafel places for some reason, but this chicken was crazy flavorful. Something like a butter chicken or chicken tikka masala on the outside; not saucy like those, but with that sort of flavor somehow. That paired with the solid white sauce and the amazing cilantro sauce was top notch. Even better, throw in an order of the masala fries to go with and your stomach will be both full and super happy. Highly recommended for a quick, cheap, delicious, and filling meal in Geneseo!
