The worst fish and chips ever. The fish is just frozen pre-battered unknown fish species.

It also has a couple outdoor tables. The Meatless fried chicken sandwich was PHENOMENAL, we have tried a couple at other places which were good but now that Ive had this one, they dont compare!! This sandwich will make us a regular customer. We also tried the Drunken cheddar soup which was very good. For beer we had a local made Ithaca draft. They only had 8 beers on tap, but shelves of different whiskey.. The staff were all very sweet girls and were constantly asking if everything was okay. *Would love to see a couple more vegetarian/vegan options.

Last evening we stopped for dinner and a beer. We had an excellent British beer, Speckled Hen. We shared the Chicken Korma and Fish and chips (with the peas). The chips were very crisp and the fish was fresh. The curry was mildly spiced. We meet a couple from England. The man in the couple did an internship at the Old Toad years ago. He stopped in when traveling in the area because The Old Toad is the kind of place that you remember. You should stop in soon.

My companion's Philly Cheesesteak was steamy hot, full of melted cheese and loaded with flavorful meat and veggies. It was an impressive looking sandwich, and I'm not surprised it's her all time favorite at Charlie's. Charlie's has operated since 1969 serving hungry customers in the Rochester area. It's a casual restaurant, where you order at the counter. The menu is on the wall. It isn't too excessive, but it's a good idea to check it out on their website beforehand--especially if it's your first time. I always need more time to decide what to have. My sandwich with marinara sauce on the side was extremely well done. The meat was very moist and tasted good. Our sides, onion rings and mushrooms, also were perfectly breaded and we enjoyed it a lot. I'm sure this place doesn't need any recommendations. If you are around and hungry for some traditional and comforting food in a casual atmosphere, just check Charlie's.

The place is always packed with people, especially on the weekends but plenty of seating. You have to get the garbage plate! My favorite is always with the home fries, red hots and Mac salad. Put the hot sauce meat sauce all over it and a side of sweet pickles and it's perfection! My son had fries and chicken tenders but after trying my garbage plate he left the fries and chicken tenders alone. My husband played it safe with a bacon cheeseburger. Honestly it was more like a smash burger and bacon was cooked to perfection; nice and crispy. He did get the hot sauce meat sauce on the side and said it elevated his burger. I know in Rochester there's garbage plates everywhere because it's what Rochester is known for and I've tried many places but Charlie's wins, hands down. Highly recommend. I will be returning!

Last night we dined for the fourth time at the Union Tavern. We got to meet the owner, a charming and friendly woman who made us feel so welcomed. My wife had the Lobster Roll...served on a Brioche hamburger roll rather than the typical New England roll...it was plentiful, cold and delicious as always! Her Merlot was served very generously and she loved it...I'm not a wine fan so I couldn't offer up an opinion. For the first time I had the Grilled Cheese with Tomato and Bacon...so delish as were the Pub Fries that came with it. And best of all, the bill was $30 to $40 less than it would be next door (where we eat quite often) or across the street. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the company of several other friendly customers and the bar staff. A thoroughly enjoyable Friday night at one of our newest favorite neighborhood-type establishments...please give them a try!!

I ordered a ricotta & olive oil dip with Italian bread. Turns out they were out of olive oil and bread, it came dry and with pita chips instead. I sent it back and then had to struggle with the waitress to take it off my bill, since I had never touched the dish. The place feels run down. They had advertised a Fireplace seating. Well, the fireplace was boarded up and had junk in front of it. This was all too bad because I organize a monthly dinner for a group and had planned on taking them here, but, I won't go back again.
