After enjoying a wonderful Berkeley Restaurant week dinner, my co-workers decided they were still hungry for dessert. One did a Yelp search of desserts nearby...Endless Summer Sweets popped up with pics of funnel cakes, corn dogs, deep fried Oreos, Twinkies and he was in pure, sugar nirvana and on a mission... I just had the funnel cake and it was lightly sweet, perfectly crispy (not oily) and soft in the center...the top marshmallows were torched and browned but the rest was not. When I think of s'mores I think of melty goodness but it was just mini marshmallows with chocolate chips scattered on top. 5 stars for the funnel cake which i will get with some powdered sugar...maybe with some caramel sauce....heck add a scoop of vanilla ice cream....for a future visit...definitely the STAR item (along with the corn dogs). What?! Funnel cakes anytime I want?! I had this place bookmarked and the first chance I find myself in Berkeley, I decide to go. I had just eaten lunch and had a little room for dessert so why not?! I love the concept of this place - it's so smart and definitely appeals to the whimsical part of my life where it's summer and I'm going to either Great America, Marine World or the fair, which means deep fried goodness (funnel cakes, corn dogs, deep fried Oreos, oh my!). When you are craving that carnival food but don't want to go to the carnival check this place out! Had a corn dog and fries with the deep fried Twinkie's and it felt like I was at the alameda county fair lol. Food was great and will be coming back to try more things on the menu. Ordered online on Sunday Night around 6:20, was ready for pick up in about 10-12 minutes. Family and I got the Mini Confetti Funnel Cake with Vanilla Ice cream and it was so so good; the mini made me full and the ice cream on the side is nice scoop. My sister got the White Cheddar Mini Popcorn, and she loved it as well and continuously is asking for it now lol. We also got two deep fried Oreos, which were good as well. Let's start with the corn dog in nothing special. The nachos is like 711 nachos but the use real tortillas that from the taqueria, the cheese is all on the top. The chicken tenders is like l&l fry chicken. The fry are good. Let talk about the garlic fry, there is NO GARLIC flavor at all. I was so disappointed. It tasted like oily fry's. I used to think I can only get funnel cake at carnivals and fairs, but now I can get one anytime in Berkeley! I love how they have mini and regular sizes for their funnel cakes and you have the option to have it with ice cream, whipped cream, and different toppings. I was delighted when I tasted my corn dog today! Absolutely delicious, and my pineapple shake was yummy too. I also ordered the corn on the cob with Mayo and Parmesan cheese on it. The service was great, the boys didn't really like their food. As the youngsters would say, they said, "it was mid." Lol service was good, very attentive and took our order. wow, this place is like going to the state fair without going to the state fair! it's got all the typical fair food you would expect...corn dogs, funnel cakes, popcorn, caramel apples, deep fried twinkies/oreos, churros...and more. for all those items they have most of the variety of flavors you would expect. the beauty of this place is not so much the food but a lady at the counter who i think was the owner. she seemed really kind, friendly and seemed pretty generous with all the serving sizes. she was filling up one customer's bag of popcorn, and made sure to fill it up as high as she could go. maybe only thing missing is something to cut all the sweetness like milk or coffee (or maybe i just missed seeing it on the menu), but there is high risk of sugar and carb overload in this place! maybe more flavors of popcorn would be nice too. but maybe if they keep doing good business (seemed like a good stream of customers coming in), they can add to their menu. store also has some fun signs for those who like IG photo opportunities. read more

Why do I always humming a few bars of the chorus of that Richard Marx song "Endless Summer Nights" when recalling my experience at Endless Summer Sweets in the heart of downtown Berkeley? Alas, the song wasn't playing in the background as we walked into this all encompassing dessert shop and fast casual fast food joint that specializes in fun fair food "at its finest". I joined a couple of friends for dinner and following that heavy meal in the Temescal District of Oakland, we were looking for a nearby place where we could satiate our sweet tooths, and after looking at our Yelp app, we determined that Endless Summer Sweets was the best option even though we had to get back in our cars and drive to get to this stretch of Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley. After a five minute drive and a rather convenient attempt to park in the local neighborhood nearby, I realized that this location of Endless Summer Sweets once hosted a Cajun restaurant as well as the local branch of Blockbuster Video, to briefly take everyone on a trip through time. The building still looked good from the outside and the inside Endless Summer Sweets was bright, airy and clean and the perfect place where families and college kids alike could afford a quick meal filled with sugar or fast food. Since the ordering process is fast casual, it was rather easy to decide what we wanted to order right with the cashier at the front counter. We were here for dessert and turned our attention to the Funnel Cakes on their menu, as they had seven in total. We decided to split the Banana Funnel Cake topped with powdered sugar, homemade whipped cream, sliced bananas, and drizzled with Ghirardelli Chocolate. At 10 dollars it was set an affordable price point. Then thinking that this wasn't enough food for our group of three, we also decided to order their Deep Fried Sundae, which was 4 Oreos deep fried in batter, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with homemade whipped cream, and drizzled in Ghirardelli Chocolate, which for $5.95 was an even more affordable. Our two dishes were presented in a nice fashion, both topped with a boatload of chocolate. Decadent doesn't describe what we ate on this evening. Everything is so sweet that you need a spoonful of vanilla ice cream to go with every bite. Still, the funnel cake was warm and crispy thanks to it being cooked to order fresh from the deep fryer. The Oreos were solid, but my recommendation is to ask for it without the extra chocolate sauce as it weighs every bite down. I have to give Endless Summer Sweets credit, business started picking up as the night wore on, and that's even with UC Berkeley students out on summer hiatus. With their food, the restaurant's goal is to revive the kid in you, by bringing back memories of local county fairs that you experienced with family and friends. Offering fun, fair food such as corn dogs, hot dogs, french fries, chips and caramel popcorn at its finest. Their desserts are fun, but aren't necessarily works of art, and that's fine by them.
