I've been coming to New Paltz for over ten years from Manhattan, to visit friends, go hiking, essentially as a brief escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The one thing that has been lacking over this past decade in New Paltz is a restaurant that can boast New York City standards, that is, until End Cut came to town. On Church, just a stone's throw from Main Street, End Cut has taken over and beautified the space once occupied by Suruchi. Like the Spanish Christians retaking the Cathedral of Cordoba from Muslims in the 16th Century, End Cut's renovation has preserved certain aspects of the previous owner's design, as you'll surely appreciate the male and female Punjabi dancers on the bathroom doors. But forget the nostalgia, this is about food. Suruchi was alright, End Cut is awesome. We started with homemade meatballs in a pomodoro sauce. This marriage of perfectly seasoned meat and sauce was heightened by a slight portion of cheese at every meaty center. I could have easily devoured the whole bowl if decorum didn't prevent me from acting like a savage. Each of the salads to follow where clean, light, and balanced in setting the stage for our main course. Now it must be stated that I've always thought salmon to be a disgusting fish, from its face to its taste to its counter-intuitive upstream swimming. I'm not quite certain what the chef did to this fish, but I finally understood why grizzly bears stand poised in Alaskan rivers to steal breaching salmon from their spawning runs. The salmon rested on a bed of braised red cabbage and fennel, a flavor combination, accompanied by a dill sauce, that has now made me question all of my previously held culinary conceptions. Perfect meal - from beginning to end! My wife took me to End Cuts for my birthday dinner earlier this week. She called Chef Jordan when she made our reservations and ordered me a bone-in ribeye ahead of time. The Chef met us at the door and seated us. He also served the food himself - despite the fact that he has a staff. The venue is small, the ambiance a bit on the dark side, but with great music, and overall very romantic. The homemade bread and butter were delicious. The wine list was impressive - and very affordable: $25 for a bottle, $8 for a glass of select wines. My bone-in ribeye - a massive 28 ounces - was the best I've ever had. It came with roasted potatoes and asparagus. My wife had the Escargot and was surprised that it came in a mushroom sauce, rather than a European butter and garlic sauce. Still, it was delicious. Afterward she had the scallops, which were prepared perfectly. For dessert we split a lemon tart and a French press coffee, a great ending to an amazing meal. In a good restaurant, I always try the coffee. I wasn't disappointed. Our five-star meal was followed by a five-star cup of coffee. The price for four delicious meals (we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day) was incredibly affordable. This was as perfect a dining experience as we've ever had (and we've had many in the United States and Europe). We decided to make "End Cut's our "Couples Place" and look forward to visiting it again on her birthday. We were in town visiting our friends yesterday... They made reservations to this wonderful restaurant.. I was simply blown away.. we had early reservations so when we got there we were greeted by the owner/chef. What a great guy, down to earth, funny - intelligent- warm.. I felt like we were visiting a friend.. The whole experience was phenomenal We first we had some delicious sweet/spicy roasted nuts while we were deciding on a wine selection. Then omg homemade bread with a bowl of delicious olive oil and homemade ricotta drizzled with some local honey with my wine We started with the crab cakes which had a delicious lobster cream sauce the gnudi which I've never had before which were creamy and so flavorful and the meatballs omg they were stuffed with cheese and broccoli rabe. I don't normally like meatballs but I think I just discovered a new favorite... I love seafood so I had the scallops, they were cooked perfect they were so tender they melted in my mouth and the risotto was perfect it was creamy and flavorful Of course I was full but brûlée cheesecake who can say no to that...not this lady Delish with a fresh cup of your own personal French press coffee.. And did I mention the chef comes out and checks on everyone himself So if you have a chance and want a great dinner I recommend End Cut read more

My children, husband and I had dinner at End Cut this evening. It was, quite simply, one of the best meals I have had. Not only in New Paltz but anywhere. Every single appetizer and entree was outstanding. Short ribs were tender and melted in my mouth. The mushroom ravioli were perfection. The duck was unbelievably moist and flavorful. Desserts were delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a truly inspired meal masterfully created by a truly inspired chef. Make reservations, though. The place is a bit small and it was completely full when we dined there. It's well worth it! read more

I'm so happy I was in town yesterday. End Cut never disappoints. We didn't have reservations this time so I was happy they had a table available. They always have my favorite wine ;) .... And what I love the most about this place is there is always something new, like the new menu WoW. I had to try the gnudi, delish. And of course my favorite mushroom cakes I chose the huge bone in steak (yes I was hungry) with the creamy mash potatoes and crispy string beans. I've been wanting to take my wife here for the last couple years. We moved from the Bronx and had some mixed experiences with finding good local food. I was so happy with our experience here when we went for dinner last night! My ribeye was the best steak I've ever had at any steakhouse! It was a perfectly done medium rare with a really nice crispness to the exterior. The creamed spinach was to die for. The chef Jordan came out to check on us and couldn't convey my happiness because my mouth was stuffed. I highly recommend to anyone! read more

If you are passing through New Paltz, or you call this town your home, End Cut is a must go to for a truly tasteful restaurant experience. The craftsmanship that went into designing the menu and the techniques used to prepare the food can only be compared with NYC fine dining. I cook in the heart of Manhattan, I used to cook in New Paltz, was a sues chef and i have eaten at every restaurant in New Paltz multiple times; trust me the food is great. Food is great but the owner is a total creep. If you are a woman I would advise you go elsewhere or be prepared the thwart him off. The more people I talk to about this place the more people I find that have stories of their own about him aggressively hitting on tables of woman or even tables of varying gender where he singles out the women. To each their own but I know when I go out to eat, that's not what I am looking for. read more

Great little place on Church Street. The food was great! For starters we had the broccoli rabe meatballs, they were delish ! I had the Chicken Saltimbocca and my husband had the Braised short ribs, both excellent. The owners Christian and Jordan were very friendly and personable. One of the top three restaurants in the Hudson Valley. If you care coming up from the city and want a good meal in a small cozy (not LOUD) place, this may be it. No pretension. Being unfamiliar with the restaurants in the area, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality dining experience we received. This place is amazing. Very uniquely flavored and absolutely delicious foods. The chef is very passionate about what he does, and it comes through in the cooking (in a good way!!). My and I were walking by the restaurant End Cut.and decided to try it for dinner. What a wonderful meal! My salmon was roasted to perfection. My husband's chicken was moist and the sauce had just the right husband tang. The mixed berry pie reminded us of our week in Paris. We will definitely be back. Our family took our father out for dinner for his birthday! The owner Jordan and staff were very friendly and amazing. The food was fabulously wonderful and mouth watering. Chef Jordan knows how to F-ing cook. He is a one man kitchen crew literally. All the prep and cooking is done by that fella, and most times he is the dishwasher as well, and he don't get paid for 3 jobs. Baller right here. Solid place, our food was delicious. we ordered the Salmon and the lamb, they were amazing. Salad was very fresh and balanced. Mushroom soup was amazing. They carry great beers, and the place is very clean, perhaps because it's new. I hope they maintain it's great standard going forward. read more
