My boyfriend and I went there on a Saturday night at 7:30pm sat at the bar and ordered. By 8:45pm we were still waiting for our food, their AC was blasting and I had been freezing for over an hour. They made no effort to lower the AC and when we asked for our food they said it was coming. After 1.15 hr of freezing we just walked out. Waited a year to do this review as I was so disgusted with the experience. Its still fresh in my mind. The food was mediocre, nothing more. The wait was long and inexcusable. There was no one in the restaurant when we ordered. I don't know what the holdup was. The owner was outside socializing most of the night, and complaining. I thought he was the chef. He complained that all the reservations did not show up. They turned away several couples who did not have reservations. the restaurant was EMPTY. A few people started to come much later. So the food was mediocre and all three of use found no reason to return and regretted we ever went. Our friends thanked us for the heads up, as they did not need to make the same mistake. It took so long to take our order and longer still for the food to come to the table. I asked for the check even thought my son still did not have part of his meal. They delivered it with the check! The interior was disgusting, and dreary ,it felt damp and unkempt. I think the lights were low to hide the dirt and lack of any attempt to create an inviting space. I could hardly read the menu. There was garbage on the side walk( a few crushed soda bottles and cans.) We eat out a lot in New Paltz and are always eager to try new restaurants. this one was in the NEVER RETURN category. ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever had in a restaurant. If only I had read these reviews first. Terrible service doesn't begin to truly describe the experience. And the waitress was rude and actually blaming us for her poor service. After being there 2 hours with no food - just the bread and a glass of wine, we asked about the entrees and the awful waitress said what did you order? When we reminded her, she then informed us they were out of the appetizer we had ordered 90 minutes earlier. The chef was in and out of the dining are talking to 2 other tables when he should have been back in the kitchen serving those without food who are paying a high price for their entrees. The waitress never checked back with us when our wine glasses were empty either. I will never give this establishment another chance, especially when we were made to feel bad for complaining. I had heard rave reviews from a friend, but was disappointed by a few minor things: the meal was paced very, very slowly; my entree mushroom risotto was a little disappointing in texture/flavor, missing both a satisfying creaminess and an umami punch; the place is is cash only (annoying given that I operate almost cashlessly these days). Despite all that, a strong showing nonetheless. I enjoyed the fresh crab and mushroom cake (get it) appetizers, the perfect house bread served with ricotta and a delicious olive oil, the sorbet palate cleanser, and the meaty scallops which were served atop the somewhat lacking mushroom risotto. wow. to say we are disappointed and disgusted is an understatement. my family and i have been overly eager to try End Cut for months after hearing from so many people that the food and experience is undeniably amazing. we decided to try it for the first time this weekend for one of our birthdays and have been looking forward to it and talking about it all week. we thought this surely would be one of the best meals we've ever had, as this place is talked so highly about. our experience started off on a bad note when our sodas were flat and appetizers were not as tasty as we had hoped, but we weren't too discouraged. even tho the french onion soup tasted like burnt bone broth and cheap red wine, we hung onto the high hopes of the food being as incredible as everyone seems to claim it is. these things were small but still significant when spending the amount you are. we had been there for almost 2 hours when the hostess came up to our table and asked us how our dinner was. our response was "we haven't received our dinner yet". she was stunned as she thought surly we have already gotten our food and finished. our food came out about 10 minutes later and we were hoping for the best of the best, even tho everything before it was very underwhelming. never in our lives have we experienced what happened when our food came out. 3/4 of our steaks were 100% raw. we cut into them and immediately lost our appetites as the steak we cut into was not far from just being cut from the cow itself. it was completely unedible and most of us couldn't even touch the rest of our food after seeing it. we are never the people to complain when we are out at a restaurant , but this was uncalled for and really really disappointing, and disgusting. our waiter was great and was such a nice guy and it wasn't his fault. but we expressed we just couldn't eat anymore and needed the bill. the hostess came over right away, as well as other servers and all of them were stunned at the sight of the raw meat sitting on 3/4 plates. we expressed our concerns and how disappointing this was and she went after the chef (not sure if he is the owner or not) to tell him. to our surprise, the chef couldn't even come and personally apologize to us nor speak to us. he came out of the kitchen, looked at us, and walked back in. this is when we really decided we were never giving this place another chance. at the very least he could have came over and apologized for the raw meat he served on our plates, but instead he couldn't pay any mind. they took only 1 out of the 3 raw steaks off of the bill, but when only one person enjoyed their meal while the rest had to cut open raw meat, i think they could've done a lot more. it's a damn shame to serve your customers raw meat and not even have the decency to look them in the eye and apologize for serving meat that is literally not edible. so shame on this place and especially chef. if you're looking for a steak meal to eat, you're better off going to texas roadhouse. on the other hand, if you're looking for a real steakhouse that provides excellent food and service, try the Phoenician in Phoenicia, NY. read more

A group of us took a break from the city to hike around the Monhonk Preserve. We had a very nice time. Before making the drive back to the city, we decided to stop in New Paltz for dinner. End Cut came highly recommended by someone in our group, so we stopped by. The restaurant is in a building that resembles someone's home. Once you walk in, you feel as if you are in someone's very nice and cozy dining room. There is a small bar and a small number of tables. We did not have a reservation, but were very fortunate to find out that the large communal table was available for our group of 6. The waitstaff was very kind and attentive. We ordered the wild mushroom cakes and beet salad for appetizers. It took quite a bit of time to come out, but it was worth the wait. The mushroom cakes were very savory and the avocado pesto was the perfect compliment. The beet salad was very fresh and the beets were perfectly sweet. For the main course, most of us ordered the Cod dish (special for the night) or the short ribs. I had the cod which was a beautifully prepared fresh fillet covered in a butter sauce. The short ribs, I heard were divine. I gave End Cut 3 stars because although the food was very good, it took about an hour for the main dishes to come out to the table. We watched other diners come, sit, order, eat, and leave before our food came out. I understand that we were a party of 6, and that sometimes restaurants can have a bad night, but it was an unreasonably long wait. We were actually contemplating cancelling the order and leaving. The waiters were very kind and very apologetic, so it is difficult for me to give such a harsh review. Also keep in mind that they ONLY accept cash. read more

What a sweet, intimate experience at End Cut! A small group of us went to check it out last weekend, and we were so delighted from start to finish. The first thing we noticed as we walked in was the romantic ambience. Low light and local art created a cozy feeling. Christian and Jordan were so welcoming and down to Earth. I love to meet the people behind the scenes. We shared most dishes tapas style and Jordan, the chef, came out to tell us about each one! There were two vegans in the group, and we were not disappointed. The salads were amazing, and the vegan Napoleon was delicious. Also, the focaccia was top notch. My partner is a chef, so I'm spoiled when it comes to home baked bread. End Cut left nothing to be desired. I think the most memorable thing about this place was the feeling of community. There was nothing pretentious about it. Just good vibes, good music, and a general attentiveness to guests. As a local, I'm excited to come back with friends! This place fits New Paltz well. We were very dubious when we first arrived - very dark and rotten acoustics which made conversation a little tricky at first! Interesting menu and even more interesting specials. Last week, after a gorgeous hike on Mohonk Mountain my friends and I were invited to this beautiful new restaurant in New Platz. We had the most amazing experience not to mention delicious food! The owner, Christian, treated us like family and welcomed us into his new establishment with open arms. Decorated with a Mediterranean, low lite vibe, the place was nothing short of romantic and cozy. The food and service was on par with New York City standards which is something to be applauded and appreciated being a New Yorker myself. The Chef came out personally to introduce himself and tell us about each dish individually which hardly did the real experience justice. The food was superb!! The food was amazing. Between the two of us, we had escargot, mushroom cakes, lamb chops and a veal chop, and it was all delicious. The meat was obviously grown with care, due to the flavor and texture. The preparation was simple, which allowed the natural flavors to shine. The appetizers were tasty as tasty can be, and I always appreciate a place that offers escargot. The prices were expensive, but considering the quantity and quality of the food, reasonable. My husband and I came here this evening based on previous yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. End Cut is a great find in New Paltz with outstanding food, service and extremely reasonable prices. We each had the wild mushroom cakes appetizer, and for entrees, my husband had a NY strip and I had seared scallops over mushroom risotto. We finished our meal with freshly ground French press coffee and an amazing creme brûlé that had just been brûlé'd! To say that this place is a 5-star is an understatement!! Chef Jordan is absolutely superb and is "top-of-his -game." Excellent and creative cocktails by a great mixologist. Outstanding appetizers, but let's get right down to the main course!! I had a NY strip, served with "to-die-for" mashed and fresh delicious asparagus. The trick on a steak to get a 5-star from me is to have a great sear on the outside while still having a medium rare on the inside. To do this (in my opinion) marks a superb chef!! Mission accomplished by Chef Jordan! My brother's filet was the "tenderest" he had ever eaten, while others in our party had other superb meals, far beyond 5-star. While I want to give this amazing chef credit, I almost hate to because that makes it harder for us to get a reservation! Last night my wife and I discovered a new gem in the village of New Paltz. We were warmly greeted and the service was gracious and professional. The care and the skill of the chef shone through each dish that was placed in front of us. Appetizers; Wild mushroom cakes over avocado pesto, roasted cauliflower caramelized onion and goat cheese tart - Salad; pear and goat cheese - Mains; Pan roasted salmon with braised fennel and cabbage, roasted duck with cassis berry sauce. A shared dessert of apple tartan with house made butter pecan ice cream. A wonderful bottle of Montepulciano to go with the meal, from their 25 for $25 wine list. Chef Jordan and co-owner Christian were warm and friendly and made us feel at home. Everything we ordered was delicious, and we are anxious to return to try more of Chef Jordan's fare. What we tried - Crab cakes (solid A), filet mignon special (wow, amazing flavor, insanely tender, A+) and the duck (wow, I try duck everywhere I go and this is DEFINITELY one of the best I've ever tried. Crispy skin, perfect sauce, A++). We didn't have room for dessert but also appreciated the bread with ricotta and honey, the candied nuts and the blood orange sorbet. So it's anniversary time for me and my wife and we came to eat here for the second year in a row. We tried the fig and cheese salad along with the escargot and prosciutto plate. My filet mignon was cooked exactly right and my wife's veal chop was perfectly seasoned. I am never let down eating here. The chef - Jordan laughed at my dessert drink request but was happy to oblige. Great music, great food, and great conversation that isn't rushed is always part of the dining experience. Great choice for a special birthday meal. We ordered mostly from the evening's numerous specials. Black bass, flavorful & rich mushroom soup, scallops on mushroom risotto, filet mignon w/ bordelaise and root vegetable gratin. Each dish was delicious and cooked just right - fish was moist, scallops sweet, filet perfectly medium rare with a rich, dark sauce. The chef's flavors are satisfying but not complex. For example, the risotto wasn't especially creamy and seemed absent of parmesan; the rabe lacked seasoning. Our beet salad with goat cheese was a huge plate of fresh greens with a bright vinaigrette but it was dumped over a few thin slices of beet, and not artfully composed. We had to search for the anticipated beets and cheese. Same with the fig and burrata salad (although the figs and generous mound of cheese tasted fantastic). Our waiter (Christian?) was just right, attentive but not intrusive, and even topped off our wine glasses so we didn't need to order a second glass. The wine selection, while small, has good variety and bottles are only $25. read more

We stopped on parents weekend without reservations. Very small, intimate, clean, but not real fancy. The staff was so nice, accommodating and chef came out several times to ensure satisfaction. Based on what I read I wanted to love this restaurant. Despite having a reservation we were ushered to the bar because prior diners came late. When we were finally seated we were told someone would help us just that they weren't sure who. We waited an uncomfortable amount of time until someone came over, and another ridiculous amount of time before our wine was served. Our waiter was sweet and very efficient but I can't quite understand why with the number of specials they have that they don't print and include them in the regular menu. Of the 4 food items we ordered, one (the coquille st Jacques) was very good but the other three were disappointing. The duck confit appetizer tasted good but was anything but confit, the short ribs were good but I've had better. The real disappointment was the sole almondine which should have been called almond soledine. The dish was coated in so many almonds the fish was totally lost and the meal had no flavor and cost $30! In addition we were never offered the bread and ricotta I just read about. As a result we skipped dessert and decided not to return. Also need to note that while we sat at the bar the bartender squirted my husband with the lemon he was squeezing and then continued to squeeze several more right in front of him! read more

We split the braised short rib and filet mignon specials. It was easy to taste the French influence in our dishes - meaning everything was very rich and flavorful! We also appreciated the little added extras, including a delicious ricotta and honey option with our bread (in addition to sage infused olive oil), a grapefruit sherbet palate cleanser between our salad course (also delicious) and main course, and local chocolate pieces at the end! Let me preface this by saying I'm a born and raised New York foodie and have the highest of expectations when going out to eat. I was reluctant to eat out in a small unfamiliar town, but boy am I glad I did! End cut more than delivered. The food was some of the best I've ever eaten-- homemade ricotta that literally had me begging for more, corn chowder, mushroom cakes that brought tears to my eyes and a creme brûlée worthy of top chef. Five star dining experience. Oh and the chef is quiet the character and hand delivers the plates to your table. Truly, truly worth the car ride out here. Bravo. read more

Its the type of place you go to really spend an evening enjoying creative delicious food, the person you are with and the cozy atmosphere.. Everything is carefully prepared with an attention to detail that we certainly appreciated. The flavors and textures of every course being a pleasant surprise. Portions were just perfect so that we could enjoy everything from the wine( huge election by the glass), thinly sliced homemade bread with spiced oil and a yummy white cheesy spread (i cannot begin to explain), brown sugared nuts, to the prosciutto, sliced pear arugula appetizer, then sorbet, entree (the BEST Sea Bass I've had in years) to the Tiramisu which was also... just out of this world.. Our dishes were spaced so perfectly that we left happily satiated and not over filled. The service is elegant, efficient, warm and never overbearing. Everyone is neat, very friendly, articulate, polite and makes you feel that your enjoyment is very important to them. The chef regularly visits the tables to chat, tell a few great stories and check in with how you like everything and the staff treat you as if you are a special guest in their home.. The restaurant was packed when we arrived and our expectations were what we felt was realistic but again we were greeted seated watered wined and fed in a long seemingly effortless tango.
