My wife and I are on Vacation here in Caledonia. She painfully cracked an acrylic nail below the line of the nail bed, and needed help getting it cut down and fixed. We walked into this place at 1:30pm, and asked for help. My wife explained what happened and the lady said "just one nail" my wife said yes. She then said "they were busy, nobody available" which is totally fine. I said that's okay we will wait, she then said "No, everyone is leaving after". Everyone (maybe 8 nail techs) is leaving -- at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Thursday. Nobody has 2 minutes to cut a nail, or 10 minutes to repair the acrylic. Went right across the street to Circa Nails and lashes. They took my wife right away, fixed her nail, and we got her toes painted to match. read more

This place is by far one of the best nail salons I have been to. They are reasonably priced too which is a plus! For a gel manicure and regular pedicure it costs $60.00. Eyebrows cost $10.00 and a nail design is $5.00 and up depending on what you get. This would be my sixth time going and they always do such an amazing job especially the nail tech Emily she is one of the best and my favorite at this nail salon. Very unhappy! He cut my nail so short and when he tried to file the back cut job, he was rubbing the file on my skin. I stopped the pedicure to explain it hurts and he should not of cut the mail that way. Very upset and hoping I don't get my first ingrown toe nail. I have been coming here for years without an issue. I went in to get a pedi where I was placed with a man with a nasty attitude. I told him I wanted polish with a design on my big toes. During the pedi he didn't scrub my feet or really anything for that matter. After roughly 4 minutes of sitting in the chair he started painting my toes. I didn't say anything. He proceeds to paint my nails getting polish all over my skin. As he starts removing the excess polish he starts removing polish from the actual nails. He then tells me "you're all done" I said where's my design?! He replied in a nasty tone "I can't do designs and no one else here can either". I then proceeded to ask about my polish, letting him know it looks very unprofessional. He then in a nasty tone yelled out that the place was being sold soon and stormed away. I was appalled as a returning/paying customer to be treated that way. Then another worker came by and said she'll fix it and was trying to tell me he was mad at her and taking it out on me!! After a while everything went downhill. Here is the low down. Best massage chairs ever. Seriously, it was borderline inappropriate. It literally massaged me from my calves to my head. Almost feel asleep during my pedi. I really felt I got alot for my money ($37 for a mani/pedi). Friendly, attentive, I was happy with the quality of the mani. My pedi was a tad intense. My feet are actually really sore and it's been several days. I get a few a season and this wasn't my first so it's not like these piggies were that outta control. Also....The owners have a young daughter, about 6, who hangs around. She will inevitably talk to you and she even crawled onto my lap. I am not a "kid person". It was a little much for me personally. I kept hearing how awesome this place is, so I took a chance and sprung for a pedicure. Hey, it's summer... I need my toes to look amazing. I'm first to admit, I'm slightly high maintenance. I'm a stylist. I'm particular.... And I know the rules and regulations for the state of Wisconsin. That said, there are good things about empress nails, and not so good things about empress nails. Highlights: they did a great job painting my nails. They have a TON of gel polish options Very comfortable chairs with massage options Low points: a lot of the non gel polishes seem HELLA old, streaky, and goopey. Mine was supposed to have sparkle in it...it was so old the glitter was actually hardened to the sides..... I was not a happy camper. I had what looked like a cheese grater .....(nope, not kidding) used on my feet. I know what you're thinking...Kimberly, you're exaggerating.... Nope I'm not. It also hurt like a bitch. My feet still have sore spots from her grating my skin off 18 hours ago. She also cut my nail a little and made me bleed. :( ouch. Not enough massage time either. It was 27 bucks. This is the best nail salon for men in the area of the two I've tried out. Unlike most nail salons, there's a diverse staff. I always worry when the whole staff is one nationality, and they all look unhappy, and the boss seems to be an owner and speaks in harsh scolding tones in a Southeast Asian language I don't understand...that the workers are exploited under some sort of 21st century indentured servant relationship. I worry about the injustice of that as well as what they might do to my fingers with sharp maybe unclean instruments of torture when moral is rock bottom. Well, the workers here happily chatter with each other across at least three different languages and a couple of English dialects. Two of the women working here speak Hawai'ian pidgin and I think are Samoan. If the staff here are exploited, well at least morale is good. Prices are good, wait times are brief and they give an honest estimate when I call, and they have "Days of Our Lives" up on the big flat screen during my lunch break. Chad finally decided between Abigail and Gabi, and seriously, Theo and Claire need to stop spying on Valerie already. read more

I would stay away from the "gel" polish at Empress. Either my color was old, or it wasn't really gel polish, but either way one day after my gel fill in and paint, 3 nails had color chipped more than halfway off, with evidence the others were doing the same. I returned, expecting to get a repaint of all nails. The technician took the shady way out by repainting the nails seriously chipped, and then when I asked if the rest would be done, pointing out the chipping he replied he would fix them. By slapping on coat after coat of color trying to stop chipping. I was not thrilled. And, TWO days after that--4 nails (these are the ones that were just "spot fixed") have seriously chipped. A $37 gel fill should not chip AT ALL, let alone immediately after being done. Beware of their shady services and horrible customer service. I will not make the mistake of returning again. read more

I don't care what anyone says about this place, it's phenomenal. I, am an 18 year old and always wanting one more thing to improve myself. Is that selfish to say? Maybe so, but it's the truth about girls my age. I LOVE to get pedicures and gel on my nails. I think having well groomed nails is important and healthy. The pedicures there are perfect. They take their time on your feet, get all that unwanted dead skin off, and do a great job of painting your toes (and nails.) Also to mention their prices are very reasonable. For fingers, it is just as good. They have MANY gel colors and regular polish colors, which makes the process longer sometimes, but gives you more options. They are also very good and helpful about any questions and are looking out for your best interest in your choice. I picked a gel color, and a girl who was helping me told me to pick a color similar to the one I liked because that color and brand chipped quickly. I've been coming to this nail salon for years! After having a bad experience with my wedding nails back in 2015, I decided not to go back. Late in 2016, I decided to give this nail shop another chance. Out of convenience and it being close to home, I started getting my nails and pedis done again. Nothing has changed, their customer service is lacking, you're never greeted nicely, and when you show up, they all look at you as if they're doing you a favor for taking your service. I usually don't mind and definitely don't expect much from them, but today definitely made me decide never to go back again. I've always been a paying customer. I was waiting to get a pedi done, and mentioned to the owner who was doing a pedi for a customer, that the water was cold. I asked if he can show me how to turn on the hot water. He looked at me, ignored me and kept doing the pedi for the other customer. I didn't mean to interrupt, but I was already sitting there for 10 mins with what started as lukewarm water. I asked the owner if he was ignoring my request, and he replied, please tell someone else to do it. I walked out causing no commotion like any normal person will do. My finger nails weren't filed evenly, no massage but she did a great job with cleaning my cuticles. Though she was in a rush because it was her day off and she was called in because of short staff.
