I skipped this place for years because of the older reviews but after going there a few times it's my new favourite. It's clean, well-lit, and well-stocked. I've noticed the other customers always seem happy and familiar with the staff. My gel manicures last forever, I've never been nicked, and I have never felt them lift and catch on my hair when I'm shampooing which is my biggest peeve with gels. I've only been to Danny but the other technician there is really friendly too. read more

Came here with my 2 daughters and asked if they were able to take all 3 of us for manis and pedis. They said yes but it would be about a 20 minute wait. I got called back for my pedicure and after almost an hour my daughters still hadn't been taken. When I asked I was told that they would go after me! They were going to have the same lady do all 3 of us! We would've been there for HOURS! Meanwhile, while my daughters were sitting there waiting they took two other walk- ins! We left after my pedicure and went to Trendy Nails where they took us right away and the service was excellent! Besides the terrible service, my pedicure is awful and I had to pay at Trendy Nails for a polish change when my nails were literally still wet! We will never go back there again! read more

Today was my second visit and it was as good as the first. The Spa pedicure includes all the normal extras like foot and leg scrub, massages of both. The heel buffing is done with a comfortable battery operated buffer vs 10 minutes of buffing by hand. What is extra special nice is the paraffin dip which most salons don't include anymore unless you pay more. Here it is part of the price of Spa Pedicure and it's the normal local price for a Spa pedicure. Your feet leave pampered, happy and soft. Everyone is exceptional friendly here. The place is pretty and clean. The location in Media is good because there is parking. No more walking 6 blocks in flip flops!!! My feet just told me they are coming back !! read more

I got a gel manicure on the evening 11/23 and it STILL has not chipped! I've never had a manicure-gel or otherwise-last long enough that I have to remove the polish because of growth rather than it starting to chip off. I made an appointment online the day before, and it was honored. At the time, nobody was waiting (I think this is due to requiring appointments), and the salon was quiet. I didn't catch the technician's name, but she was very sweet and gave me the most thorough manicure I have ever had. Also, I think $30 for gel was super reasonable! I'm hoping to return soon to get a regular polish manicure to compare how long it lasts. The location is in the same strip of shops as Primo Hoagies, and has a small (free) parking lot. read more

I am 26 yo and have gotten a lot of pedicures in Phila/Manayunk area for the last 4 years. This was by far the worst! I was very disappointed in the massage during the pedicure and the manager kept having to remind the technician which scrubs and oils to use next... she RUSHED through everything so aggressively to the point of me physically being moved in the massage chair because of her rapid movements. I asked her to please slow down and she laughed at me. Meanwhile the two older adult customers to my right seemed to be getting much better, slower, more mindful attention... maybe it was just my technician... either way the whole experience was not relaxing. I felt neglected and did not get a back massage while my toes were drying. While the other two older customers did. That's not even the worst of it.. The entire polish came off in chunks just two days after. See My toes looked like CRAP just 5 days after-- see the picture of my toes legitimately 5 days after!! I will not be going back to this salon and hope those of you reading choose another place. So not worth the $40 and I will be returning to the salon to ask for my money back. Update: when I returned to the salon the manager was very understanding and accommodating and fixed my toes for free. Sadly the new polish only lasted 4 days (see picture). I came here based on the number of reviews on Yelp & the online community's overall consensus this was one of Media's best nail salons. I needed a manicure and basic pedicure before a big work trip, and as a walk-in, they got me seated right away. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the overall experience and service and would not go back. First, the ambiance. The same jazz CD played words-less versions of Alicia Keys and Josh Groban songs the entire time. Just getting my pedicure done, I heard the same songs 4 times. I know that is minuscule, but it didn't lend to the relaxing experience I was hoping for. The staff was pleasant and they seem to have a decent polish selection. I could not find a solid black shade of polish for the life of me, so I requested it from the staff. They gave me the closest black they could find. My pedicure technician was very nice and thorough. She spent an incredible amount of time making sure my calluses were gone; they use an electronic callus remover device. (I did not observe a clean brush head being placed on the device, but perhaps they disinfect it another way? I did see the same device used on my feet being used on a client directly after as I was getting my manicure done.) My tech was extremely focused on my cuticles in particular; unfortunately, this resulted with her cutting my skin twice, resulting in bleeding on my left second toe and my right big toe. She did say sorry and proceeded to put some green liquid (which I assumed was an antiseptic, I was wrong) on it while she proceeded to continue. The leg/foot massage they perform with sugar scrub hurt more than it was relaxing, but she was able to adapt the entire way when I did speak up about concerns. I loved the nail shape she finished with, but it took forever for her to get there. (As an aside: The basic manicure was nothing special. Again, particular focus was spent on my cuticles, and my pointer finger was also cut and bled. More green liquid was dropped on that quickly.) I did indicate I was in a hurry when I noticed the pedicure was lasting much longer than an hour, and we did not get to my basic manicure yet. She nodded that she would hurry. In all, the entire service took from 11am to 1:20pm for basic procedures that were overall the same, if not worse quality, that I could have received elsewhere for half the time and at a relatively similar price. The inflamed cuticles and bleeding were not worth it, it was not relaxing, and I just can't justify the service. I do not foresee myself returning in the future. read more

I went here today for a spa pedicure and some facial waxing. I am new to this type of pampering as I do not have the prettiest of feet but it was necessary due to recent events. I figured if I was in for a dime, I'm in for a dollar and opted for the spa pedicure. This service included paraffin peel, scrub, moisturizing multiple times, buffing and brushing of all sorts and a hot stone massage. All told, it was a one hour process. The people in this salon take great pride in their work. When one woman's nails did not quite turn out, she was told if there were any issues to return for a repair. This place appears quite clean in their handling of materials and product. My only criticism is that the massaging of the legs was more like rubbings than massage but I wouldn't take a star from them for that. They have a private lot but the spaces are alotted to particular businesses so parking is not a given. read more

This salon was recommended by a coworker and I gave it a try. I was able to call and schedule an appointment with ease. When I arrived for my appointment the technician was ready for me. She was extremely pleasant and provided excellent customer service making sure I was pleased throughout my service. The owner also greeted me and made sure I was completely satisfied. I am glad to have been introduced to a great salon and great new technician. There prices are good and they offer 10% off on Tuesdays when paying with cash as well as 20% off on your birthday when you enroll in their rewards program which offers $5 off after 5 visits (I think?). Also, tips cannot be paid with your credit card, however, there is an ATM located in the front of the salon. It has become my go to salon. read more

I have been going to empire nails for around 5 years now, I will never be returning again. Today I was charged $100 for a refill and simple Pedicure. Now if those were the prices that were posted I would be completely fine with that but it was not. I paid $57 for a gell refill when that is not what is advertised. It is $25 for a normal refill and I can expect a little for for gel but no $20+. When I originally got this set done it was $52, now i'm paying more then that for a refill. I have been coming here for years and they always do a great job no matter who gives you service. I had moved away and tried other salons but I've come to the conclusion that they are worth the hour drive one way. Everyone is so very friendly, the place is clean, your offered a drink or can bring your own. No appointment necessary but realize it is really busy especially on Friday and the weekends especially during the summer. I never minded waiting it was worth it. They are a full service salon. First of all, the staff is very welcoming. I got a pedicure at the good price of $26. There was a very large selection of colors to choose from, including the high dollar brands. Attention to detail was awesome. Nails were cut uniformly and the polish job was flawless. The best part: they used sanitized instruments and saran wrap in the foot bath. This is one of the few Asian nail salons that I've visited where I didn't wind up with a fungus later. Top notch! read more

I have been going here couple years without any issues until the beginning of May 2019. I got a french gel manicure and pedicure AND a nail fungus infection. My nails started turning white as if it was becoming separated from the skin. When I went back about a week later they said they never saw an infection like that and doubted it was from them! they removed the gel coat and found the skin under my nails sensative, sore and separted from the skin on some fingers. Michelle provided me with an Antifungal fungus killer for hands and feet but the bottle said NOT FOR NAILS! They also refunded me for the manicure but not the pedicure. read more

I hadn't been to Empire Nails since just after the current owner, Michelle, bought it some years back. I didn't see her there today. The shop was always clean and and the staff nice and professional. I went today for a scheduled mani-pedi and was pretty disappointed. The woman who did my pedicure (don't know her name) started by telling me she was ready "now" while I was picking out my 2 polish colors. The water in the plastic lined basin barely covered my feet, and was lukewarm at best with no water jets. .When she started filing my first foot's nails, she picked up an emory file that looked like it had been used on many others prior. I said something and she opened the drawer and opened a new one that she noted was "shorter". But it was also clean an unused! After this, she made a big show of pouring from a bottle labeled "alcohol" over the metal tools that did not appear to have been removed from a sterilizer. She kept pulling my feet to a position that caused me to have to been my ankles very uncomfortably. The end result is fine, but after the first five minutes I knew I wasn't getting that Manicure! Place was not clean, trash cans full, trash cans with lids stood with open lids, and there were at least 5 flies hovering around. Place is off my list now! read more

I came in yesterday to get an eyebrow wax and a tint done for a wedding I have to attend this weekend. I told the lady I wanted brown because I have pretty light brown hair and black would just look ridiculous. She waxed them first, which the wax was so hot it burnt my skin, I woke up this morning with welts on my skin. She then used black to tint my eyebrows, they are so dark I'm embarrassed. I will be making this a regular trip. I had a pedicure and decided to splurge on the Spa pedicure. It was very slow and relaxing. Usually the technicians at other salons I've been to rush through the service. Vanessa took her time and it was a needed relaxing experience. There were a lot of lotions and scrubs but at least I felt like I got what I paid for. Once my pedicure was done and I was sent to the dryer I got a small neck massage that was awesome!! Please disregard me review I posted on 4/4/18 but this place has gone down hill fast! My last 3 visits were a total waste of money and my time! Very unhappy with the work that was done. They convinced me to get SNS with my full set but they didn't explain that the next time I came that my tips would have to be removed and replaced! Who wants to do that every time they get their nails done! Not to mention the tech that I get stuck with every time doesn't pay attention to details or her work! Out of the 7 years Ive been in PA this salon is by far the best. All the ladies are very personable and comfortable around folks like me (tattooed). Unlike Elegant nails in springfield that were disgusted and made you feel really uncomfortable. As soon as I walked in to Empire Nails I was warmly greeted , kindly asked to choose a color and sat right away. Had a great conversation with my technician, even had wine which was nice. Smiles and laughs were non stop, just makes you feel welcomed. I was taken care of very well by Miss Jenny and would go back as much as I can. So go check them out.
