I started eating beef again after maybe 7 years a couple days ago. I've lived in Rochester for almost 4 months, and today I had a eureka moment. I can have a real garbage plate with meat sauce !! So my bf and I decided to go to Empire Hots as we were out in Webster. In addition to garbage plates, they have a smaller option for those who might have trouble clearing a whole plate or if you just want something small - snacker plates. Additionally, you can get a regular burger, hotdog, sandwich, or wrap. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by the staff. We placed our order online and it was ready in around 10 minutes. There is plenty of seating inside. You can pick a cozy booth or a table. I ordered a cheeseburger snacker plate with mac salad and beans, topped with onions, mustard, ketchup, and of course meat sauce. My bf got a regular cheeseburger plate with onions and meat sauce. He said he asked for ketchup on it but there was ketchup on the table so no big deal. All of the plates are served with bread and butter. I really enjoyed my plate. Everything was flavorful. I liked the mac salad, the cheeseburger, and the meat sauce especially. I assumed the beans would be warm, but there was no option online to ask for it that way. Turns out they didn't heat up the beans. Maybe if I went in and ordered I could have asked for it that way, but it's okay. I still really liked it - I'll just order inside next time. My bf liked his plate too, and said it was better than he remembered. He had no complaints. I would definitely go here again when I next visit Webster. The staff here are super nice which is hard to come across sometimes. I look forward to trying their other offerings, everything looks pretty tasty on the menu ! read more

Very clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was what you would expect from a hot dog joint. Good, but nothing particularly stood out or wowed me. The garbage plate was just ok. When I got to my hotel, I discovered that they had gotten my order wrong. I had asked to substitute fries on the garbage plate and they forgot to do that. Not a huge deal, but a lack of attention to detail. Would I go there again in a pinch? Sure. Would I go out of my way or make a special trip? Probably not. read more

After a couple of years of not having a plate from my favorite plate place, I was so excited to have one once again. They were the best plates anywhere . I was sadly so disappointed in it. The home fries were dry, the mac salad was just macaroni and mayo, the hot sauce was flavorless. It just wasn't the same plate from a few years ago. Came here to get a famous trash plate and it was pretty good. They have a variety of options for trash plates and sides to get within it. I ordered the chicken finger plate with fries. They allow you to also choose the toppings with options of Ketchup, mustard, onion, and meat sauce. The meat sauce is basically taco beef with grease, so I asked for it on the side so I could get the beef only and put it on my plate. They give you giant portions, enough for a very filling 2 meals. They give you 3 chicken fingers on top of fries, they're crispy but a bit thin for my liking and not a lot of meat. The fries are crispy too so they don't get soggy with all the toppings, which I really liked. I would have liked some hot sauce on top for a bit more flavor and spice, but it was still a good trash plate. They also give you a side of bread slices and butter to scoop up your plate ingredients almost like a sandwich. Next time I'd get 2 different sides like mac salad rather than just fries to add different flavors and mix together. Bit expensive for average chicken fingers and fries, about $17, but it was an experience to try. read more

Now being from the midwest then down in Texas I can truly say "I've never seen anything like this before!" Two cheese burger patties, macaroni salad, home fries topped with mustard, onion, hot sauce and a meat sauce? What the heck are the People of Rochester thinking? Surprisingly good, over the top, belly busting meals that's what. I was warned that once I ate it, nap time would happen. Guess I fell prey since I went back to my hotel, tried to get some work but couldn't focus. The eyes were getting heavy and next thing I knew 2 hours of life just drifted away. First time here, didn't know what to order off hand. Chose the White Hot Trash Plate ($14.89) with Mac/Cheese and baked beans, with a vanilla shake ($5.65). Plate was heaped, but, didn't like that the beans were cold. The shake was not even full to the top of the glass, 3/4" from the top! Disappointed for the price of $22 and change! I called in on a Thursday night, about 30 minutes before close. Steve Ts is my usual spot, but I live in the east side and wanted to just get home. Staff answered the phone and was friendly. Lots of hots places will let the phone ring that close to closing time. I ordered two CB plates, both with well done home fries and heavy on the sauce. Staff was equally friendly during pick up. Got the plates home and was pleasantly surprised. Creamy and tasty Mac salad. Heaping serving of delicious hot sauce, somewhat drier than many of its competitors, this is a good thing as it made the plates less messy and soupy (Schallers, Steve Ts). Everything tastes great and the portions were fantastic. I like that they are open pretty late all week. I used to go here, but stopped for some reason. Glad I gave it another chance. read more

Ehhhhhh, maybe I am over the whole late night "Garbage Plate" thing... Because I was not that impressed with Empire Hots as of late. Could it be because I have not been in a drunken stupor when I have gotten a plate from here lately?? I remembered them being A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Today was just "eh." Kind if disappointing considering we are moving to NC in a week and won't be able to grab one when we want. (Tho, I am not going to lie, I make a mean meat hot sauce myself and can make plates on my own but sometimes it's nice to not have to cook yourself.) Toppings on BOTH plates were wrong. How is that possible?? Luckily I had an onion at home that I was able to chop up and put on it. Hot sauce was soooooo weak and bland. Mac salad had no taste. As I was eating this tasteless calorie bomb, I was thinking how it wasn't even that enjoyable. ...And I do remember going here in the past, I may or may not have had a few cocktails in me, and I got YELLED AT for leaning on a table while waiting in line. Yes, yelled at. I have never forgotten that. I know they probably have their share of drunken idiot customers but I also feel that you should treat your customers with a little respect too. Your typical "hots" place with some Webster elegance to it. Location: On Empire Boulevard near my favorite AMC theater. Plenty of parking available. The place is very clean and has a reasonable seating area. Unlike other Hots places I've been to Empire Hots feels much more cleaner and "in good shape", something attractive for the more germ sensitive people especially *cough* ladies. Timings: Open late almost every night which is something I love about any place. I crave junk food mostly at absurd times of the night and this fits right in. Menu: Everything you want from a junk food place is available. Trash plates, cheese burgers, chicken fingers, hot dogs. They do offer half trash plates which are a good option if you aren't super hungry. Food: Trash plate with cheeseburgers tasted really good. The mac was a bit on the cold side which felt a bit out of place in a plate that was otherwise filled with hot food. Like it came out of the fridge. I enjoyed it regardless; Trash plate with shaved steak was also good however I noticed my plate was filled with mac and home fries and the quantity of steak was very limited. I need more steak! Much less than what other places serve. It supposedly had cheese on it but I really didn't taste/see any. The total amount of food on my full trash plate was also less than what you get at Wimpy's or Salvatore's etc. I enjoyed my plate still. Put some hot sauce on top and you're golden; Chicken fingers were your typical chicken fingers. Can't go wrong with them. Overall everything tasted well spiced and well done. A nice treat for my taste buds. Service: Operated by a family and looks like it has been for years. They seem quite friendly and accommodating. Service is fast. You feel welcomed. Note: I noticed the entire facility including their grill is very clean. Very. A friend who used to work in the restaurant business told me these guys are well known for their cleanliness and the health department uses them as an example for other restaurants/fast food places. I like it! Conclusion: Will come again. Definitely one of the places I have bookmarked for garbage/trash plates. Wimpy's reigns supreme as my favorite still however. I was first introduced to the Trash Plate at Empire Hots when I was a senior in high school (1992) and have stopped by ever since to get my Trash Plate fix whenever I came to town. The rivalry between Empire Hots and Nick Tahou's is as old as time, but I have only ever eaten Empire Hots' plate. For comparison, I should try the Garbage Plate at Nick Tahou's some day. That said, I usually choose either cheeseburgers, white hots, or Italian sausages to go on top of the Trash Plate. I also want everything with it: home fries, mac salad, chopped onions, and the restaurant's unique hot sauce. The portion and the taste always satisfies. Whoever the cook is the day that I drop in, he always cooks and prepares the Trash Plate the same old way, which is fine by me. Empire Hots' menu is extensive and varied, so whichever fast food craving you have, you're bound to find something to fill your belly. read more

Mac salad could definitely be improved, burgers over cooked as well. Will probably look elsewhere the next time. Bummer because we don't indulge in these often so disappointing. I've been frequenting Empire Hots since 1995 when I discovered their take on a Rochester favorite which they have christened the Trash Plate. Maybe it's due to the Ukrainian roots of the owner, but their trash plate is equal to, if not better than the original by Nick Tahou. If not up to muster in any category, perhaps the bread is the one place they can improve. Some of my children don't care for the Trash Plate, despite my attempts to raise them right. Despite my disappointment with their life choices, they enjoy hot dogs, cheeseburgers, or chicken fingers, which are also on the menu. 2 dogs and a chocolate milk $8.65 A bit pricey The dogs are Zweigle snap dogs (thick casings). There are no non-snap dog variety available for the red hots. The meat sauce scores an A For some reason the dude taking the food from the cook to the counter had to touch the food. read more

My wife and I have been going to Empire Hots for almost 4 years. I lived in East Irondequoit when we first met and I took her here on one of our first dates. I had 2 other great hots places near my townhouse, but always chose to drive the extra few miles to go here. The service has never been anything short of great whenever we go. Some of the guys behind the counter are short on conversation at times but they're not there to convince me to be their friend. They're there to make great food and send us out the door full and satisfied. My wife is a picker eater and they have always accommodated her requests when it comes to how her food is prepared. We now live in Greece and have a more expensive hots place down the street from us and we still prefer to drive to Webster whenever we want our "plates". There's no better hots place in the area, in my opinion. The food is always fresh and made exactly how we ordered it. A great family place and our kids love eating here as well. read more

I have really wanted to like this place- it is right around the corner from me and wanted to find a good local place to find a plate. It was fine- the food was nothing great, it took around 15 mins to get food (which isn't horrible for normal standard restaurant hours but for a plate place it is a little long), standard quality of plates. Nothing that made me say 'wow!' and to differentiate it from other plate restaurants. No frills restaurant. I think there are better places out there for plates; but if you are in the area and want a quick plate, I would go back. read more

Very uncool behavior. I was there at 4pm Wednesday. There was one person in the restaurant eating. No one else. The place was empty. I politely asked for a garbage plate with the mac salad and beans on the side. The man at the counter said that he couldn't do that. I said really? Just put them on another paper plate. He said No. I walked out. Drove over to Charlie's and they accommodated my request. Yummy. Hard to understand in today's economy that people would turn away your business. I was excited to try Empire Hots as I had heard their hot sauce was good. But Charlie Riedel's did not disappoint. It was delicious and very filling. Go Charlie's. The worst ever. Ive been dying for a plate. Im from Rochester and couldnt wait to visit and get one. How dissapointing. These people suck. They messed up a basic plate even after I called to confirm my order. Once they knew it was a complaint they refused to answer or fix it even though they were and still are open. My $35 worth of food Ive been waiting so long for is literallt in the trash because they wont even answer the phone to fix their screw up. Im disputing the charges with my bank and trying warn everyone. If they mess up your food you are stuck with it. They are terrible and will not even answer your calls once they know they made a mistake and will defintely not fix it. read more

I've been coming here since 1990. Mario runs a tight ship. The food is consistently good. His hot sauce isn't the best, my father's is the best, and this is a close second! Staff are polite and professional. Place is always clean and Mario keeps the decor fresh. I particularly like his Mac Salad.
