    Steak (all gristle)
    Myrna S.

Empire Diner is one of the few remaining diners in town that's nostalgic for me because there used to be so many diners like it in Reno back in the 80's and 90's. When I arrived at the restaurant, the front podium and cashier booth was empty, there were servers in the back but none of the seemed to notice me. Another couple of customers walked in to the waiting room and we all wait a few more minutes until a server finally noticed us and walk us each towards available booths. The busser appeared to take my drink order: coffee and water. The coffee was great, the busser left an entire pot at my table plus a dishful of creamer; I drank most of it with relish. A while later my server appeared to take my food order: steak and (over-easy) eggs, with a side of hash browns and English muffin, and after few minutes she drops off my entree. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and the English muffin was toasty with a generous smear of butter (just the way I like it). The steak looked beautiful; mahogany and glistening with juice; the edges were tender but the rest of the steak inedible because it was all gristle; it was pretty disappointing. I felt so cheated; so, as nostalgic as I felt about the Empire Diner and as decent as the service was, it'll be some time before I consider returning because this wasn't the best dining experience I had there.

Empire Diner inside Baldini's Casino is a great spot for a good meal. What really stood out was our server, who impressed us by taking and remembering our entire order without writing a single thing down--and everything came out just right. That kind of service really adds to the experience and makes this diner worth visiting.

My husband is obsessed with the awful waffle and he said it is good as ever. I loved the $10 steak deal with sides they even included shrimp. Service was fast on a Sunday, they take card and have waiters for drinks and parking is free. I liked the Halloween decor

For those who have ever had the OG awful awful at the little nugget, the empire diner brought it back and it's pretty spot on. Do we need a pound of fries with our giant burger? No. But do we enjoy the pound of fries that comes with it? Absolutely. It's definitely a meal for two. Our server was friendly and our food came out quick. Don't judge the diner because it's at the Baldinis, it was definitely busy the whole time we were there.

Yay! Empire Diner still offers a Senior Menu. There are approximately 10 entries for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Today, I enjoyed the 1/4lb Beef Patty, Scrambled Eggs, Home Fries, and Sourdough Toast--a large portion for under $10.

Not a bad place to eat. Prices are right and they have specials all the time. My review is for the awful awful. Burger is a little small, the top half of the bun completely fell apart after the first bite so that was disappointing. You do get a ton of fries like the original so that's a plus. The fries were really salty though, I mean really salty. I'm glad they went back to using plastic cups instead of paper cups they were using for a while. Service is usually good. Interior can use some updating but it's not bad.

Hard to find this diner being situated in a casino. It was worth the search. Cat, my server, was amazing. Excellent bus support as well by the Spanish gentleman.

2/21/23 $12.99 New York Steak & Shrimp promo with fries

Quality/Quantity - We got the following today: Two orders of the NY steak with shrimp specials, one with fries and one with brown rice. Who do you think ordered the one with fries, LOL. I also got a small cup of chicken noodle soup for 99¢ more. It was hearty, but too salty for me. Fresh fish of the day = just okay. Senior fish and chips as my buddy is an even lighter eater than I am. Overall, all the food was okay. But the fried foods, fries and shrimp, were done very well! I would come back just for this. I was torn between ordering this versus the prime rib; the advertisement photo sold me. The food looks much better than it tasted. Atmosphere - Good space, looks larger than it really is with all the mirrors. Booth and table seating. Actually, the booths were fairly large, and could seat 6 comfortably. This place and casino advertise towards locals. Very local focused. Open 7 days a week. Plenty of casino parking. Service - Waiter was good, okay. The bus girl was awesome. She was proactive, checked up on us more often, friendly, etc. Price - $50 + generous tip due to the bus girl. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success. Great job with your deep fryer, but I suggest working on your other recipes...

The service was amazing, very friendly staff. Food came quickly. We also had the mozzarella sticks and they were AMAZING. My boyfriend loved the sandwich and the omelet was one of the best i've have. definitely will be back! :)

While visiting Reno for Hot August nights, we happened upon Baldini's Casino. While playing a slot machine, my wife was awarded a free steak & shrimp dinner, so understand that this meal was comp'd. The food came out very fast. I had the sirloin steak & shrimp (free) dinner and my wife ordered prime rib. My steak was on the smallish size, however with the 4 shrimp, it was the perfect portion size. Everything tasted good and my steak was tender. My wife's prime rib was also tender and delicious. The only weird thing is the water had an unusual taste. It wasn't a soapy taste but I cant quite put my finger on what the taste was. It may have been iced tea remnants, I just can't say. We will go back again.

Finally got to try the famous Awful Awful burger after so long! The burger lives up to the hype--absolutely delicious. I'd highly recommend checking this place out. The service was great, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting.

Baldini's....not worth the effort to walk in...especially in a storm!

One star. I stood in line waiting for the hostess to seat a line of people. Hostess not to be found. The poor cashier could not help. She had a line to cash out. If you only have a short time to eat, waiting in line for a hostess is not a way to have lunch. So disappointing. The hostess/ manager should be fired! I asked to speak to a casino manager. Waited another 20 minutes. He did not show up. I just left. Wasted my lunch hour. Service was horrible. Julie A

We were greeted by hostess Julie, who was warm and welcoming right from the start. I really appreciated that the staff acknowledged the birthday without us even having to mention it. Our server, Mary Jane, already knew, which was a great touch (likely from reservation notes which, honestly, was a refreshing change from a past experience at Peppermill). Mary Jane was excellent--attentive, consistent, and on top of everything. Even with how busy it was, she made us feel like we were her only table. Chloe, our food runner, kept things running smoothly. The atmosphere was lively with trivia night and team competitions going on, which added a fun vibe. They also have outdoor seating available. Food was good overall. The birthday boy loved the Crabfest! Tried their sampler platter and Lobster fries both were just okay. Our shrimp came out overcooked at first, but they quickly corrected it and the second round was great. The seafood pasta, fish & chips, shrimp, and poke tacos were all decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Service is definitely 5 stars. Food is closer to 4 stars--but still a solid experience overall.

Upon arrival, we were sat immediately and greeted by our waitress. The restaurant was clean, bright, and had very few occupied tables. The service from our waitress was non-existent during our stay even though there were very few tables requiring service. She was at our table to greet us and take our drinks, and to take our order but that was it. We had to leave our table to find her to get drink refills and to ask for our check. To drink, we ordered the Churchill Sour and the Blueberry Mojito with a shot of the house rum (it's a virgin on the menu). The Churchill Sour was well balanced and complex. The Blueberry Mojito with a shot of house rum was anything but good. It tasted like straight soda water...even after being mixed at the table. I did order a 2nd one later on and did 2 shots of the house rum and specifically asked for the bartender to mix it and it did taste slightly better. I was shocked to see that on the bill that EACH shot of house rum cost almost the exact same as the Churchill Sour! To start the meal we ordered the crispy calamari. Not only did this come out barely warm and chewy from being overcooked, but it also came to our table with our main courses (I specifically told her that this was our appetizer and we wanted it out first). For our main courses, we ordered the fish and chips, the warm lobster roll, and the lobster philly cheesesteak. The fish and chips were delicious. The fish was light, flaky, and flavorful. The lobster philly cheesesteak was a good surprise. I was on the fence about seafood with cheese, however they complemented each other nicely. The meat was seasoned to perfection and cooked to beautifully. The fries that came with the fish and added onto the philly were the HIGHLIGHT of the meal! They were crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside, and the seasoning was on point. The warm lobster roll was just ok. The lobster was ice cold (the butter it came with to dip it in was cold too) and slightly overcooked. The roll was also lacking all flavor and seasoning. Sadly, during our time at Chickie's & Pete's we were not the only table that had these or similar issues. We watched 2 tables walk out before ordering as their wait time for drinks and/or to be greeted was pushing 20 minutes after being seated, other tables actively searching for servers, and heard several complaints from nearby tables about food quality. Unfortunately, I think we may be taking a break from Chickie's and Pete's for a while when we visit GSR.

It was not busy since it was a Sunday so we sat down right away and then a waiter came over to give us water. Our waiter came by shortly after that to see if we wanted drinks or appetizers. I ordered a nice glass of chianti red wine from Italy and my friend ordered the spritz. We also ordered the French onion soup to share. Our drinks came out pretty quick along with bread and our soup. The drinks were great, the soup was one of the best French onion soups that i've ever had. The broth was delicious and not too salty but plenty of onion flavor, right amount of cheese and onions was in it, and it was plenty too eat. Our waiter came back to check on us and told us the specials. We ended up ordering the 24oz ribeye and the side of lobster mac n cheese. Our meal came out right on time after we finished our soup. The ribeye was cooked perfectly med rare, it was juicy, flavorful, and tender. One of the best steaks I've ever had. The lobster mac n cheese was cooked perfect, the noodles were tasty, al dente, plenty of lobster in it, and the flavor definitely was cheesy and lobsterish. The food was outstanding. The service was great as well even though it wasn't busy. I forgot our waiter name so I'm sorry. We were too full for dessert or we would have ordered some. It was such a beautiful day.... where can we eat outside?…read more I found "The Spot", its in the old Smee's location on the river. When we showed up, we asked if we could sit at a table outside, the guy was a little overwhelmed, he said "I can sit you in 10 mins". I said "can we have this table". OK, but....just know I'll be with you as soon as I get caught up, I'm totally fine with that I said. . He bought us a couple menus to look over. Then a table on the railing with shade opened up, I didn't care about the table was dirty with dishes, so we decided to move. I love to look at the river and watch the people go by. The server said, I'll be over soon! He was never so happy when Sierra showed up to help him out. He came over to our table I said "I hope you don't mind, I moved to be in the shade, I know I'm one of those pain in the ass customers". Then he started joking with me and it was the perfect ice breaker. My server and part owner's name is Casey! He is an awesome guy and such a hard worker to ensure his customers are taken care of. I love that. We had a couple beers, he has quite the selection of beers on tap, he supports the community breweries such as Lead Dog and Revisions. My husband had the breakfast burrito $13, it was huge with homemade tortilla chips with salad and guacamole. I had the fish and chips. You get three large pieces of fish, fries and yummy coleslaw. I love how they put the tater sauce and ketchups in personal cups for you that shows class. My fish was absolutely delicious better than the old Smees and especially the new location. I was definitely in the mood to try something new. After some searching The Spot is what caught our eye. Located by the river and where Reef and Smees used to be. including what you ordered or used, Since this was a new spot we decided to just order and share a ton of appetizers. This included: cup of cream of mushroom soup, pretzel bites, spinach dip, poutine fries and Brussel sprouts. 2/5 were a huge hit where the orders we would not try again. Cup of mushroom soup: cup size is a good appetizer portion, good mushroom taste but WAY too salty. Would not order again. Pretzel bites: SUPER YUM! Slightly crunchy at the corners and fluffy inside. Perfectly bite sized and great dips (cheese and mustard). Loved these and would absolutely order again. Spinach dip: not a fan. The one thing I did like about this is that the dip portion was extremely generous, but I was not a fan of the taste. For me it was like slightly watered down sour cream. You have the options of chips or baguette. We went with baguette and for the first time in my life, the dipping vessels were very scant compared to the amount of dip so if anyone orders this, I would recommend it with chips. Would not order again. Poutine fries: YUM! Definitely a shareable portion. Thin fries topped with yummy breaded cheese curds and piping hot gravy this was my favorite thing. The gravy was perfectly salted and I loved the breaded cheese curds. I do wish the fries were thicker, like a wedge cut but honestly these were insanely good. Will order again. Brussel sprouts: made with bacon which is always a must for that yummy flavor. Also drizzled with balsamic which is a win in my book. These were very tender and delicious but very oily or greasy which kind of gave me the ick but flavor was definitely there. Will not order again. We were seated immediately upon arriving and waters were brought out. Orders were taken quickly and food came out quick! However after the food came out, no one came to check on us, see how we were doing or clear plates. We were always having to flag someone down for refills, napkins and the check. It wasn't busy. The inside is clean, has a large bar area and outdoor seating. Also lots of TVs. I don't think I'll be returning, but I do recommend the poutine fries and pretzel bites. Things to note: Have to walk up stairs to enter. No private parking lot, have to street park and a lot of parking is metered. 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday - Saturday & free on Sundays / holidays.

I will start by saying my sandwich and beer were tasty and good. They will boast all local ingredients, but 30 bucks for a cheese steak on ciabatta bread is steep. The burger my wife had was the same price and nothing special to note exept she ordered no tomato and it came with tomato. Both of our fries were soggy and cold. A draft beer for 16 dollars is also more than expected. Our bartender was professional and chatty. He did pull a nice bottle of tequila down for us to admire, and told us about some other fancy top shelf stuff they had. I appreciate they were even open. Service was great, everyone looked taken care of. The place looked clean; and the food looked great everywhere, ours just flopped. All of the other patrons there were probably late 50s and up at 2pm on Memorial day. This is one of the most expensive underwhelming lunches I've had ever had in Reno. I am sure if we had said something they would have given us new fries, but that isnt the point. You have a price set well above average so I expect that it will be executed suprbly.
