While visiting the area, my friend and I stopped here for breakfast. Honestly, it was the only place around that was open. The server was god, but not horribly friendly. That's ok. I came for the food. That said, I got an omelette with corned beef and swiss cheese. It was very good. On the side, I got grits. They were wonderful! Angan was extremely rude, dismissive of what I was telling him and blamed the waitress for "being new." He literally placed all the blame from the kitchen on my waitress. Service was Ok - but at the end of the meal when i handed her my debit card - after a quick glance at the check, she rang it up and returned me the slip to sign. No tip line? Love this place. No matter when I go I am promptly seated and service is good. Food is great. I usually get a ham and cheese omelet special. Never been disappointed I have also recommended the diner to a few friends and haven't heard any complaints. The servers are always changing and can be very quirky. But they are always nice. The parking is pretty good (if you suck it up and go straight to the back the front is scratch city) but no matter what I see a lot of characters that cant drive or park. The parking lot in the winter at night should be avoided. I slipped and fell on ice since no one thought that the water during the day would ice up at night. read more

Started eating at Empire a few years ago when a friend of a friend was waitressing there. It was a bit of a drive from where I was living until recently but it was a good way to pass the time on summer nights with nothing else to do. They've got an enormous menu and there are usually a few specials going. My personal favorite is the chicken parm which is almost always big enough to take some home for lunch the next day, comes with soup or salad, pasta, and when they remember it a basket of assorted breads. After that, I like the chicken parm sandwich. I will say that the pasta sauce they use is reminiscent of school cafeteria/industrial grade pasta sauce and the Parmesan cheese is probably artificially flavored sawdust but they have a certain charm. When I'm not in the mood for chicken parm they've got a good selection of cakes. It's best to see if you can pick one that hasn't been sliced into yet or one that looks recently sliced. The breakfast is good too and I've gotten it two or three times but the chicken parm is tops. Even though I don't smoke the smoking section usually isn't smoky at all so if the booths are all taken in non-smoking (lets see if I can fit smoke in a few more times) I'll sit over in smoking. If you come after 11pm or so the tip is automatically calculated into the check so unless the service was super amazing double-check your check to make sure you don't tip twice. read more

Ok...I made a visit to Empire diner today with my family of about 15 people, most of which are from out of town. We all ordered breakfast and our family fun time quickly became a bad experience. Most of the food came cold for about 8 of us including the kids. My niece even had a fruit bowl with her breakfast which appeared to be old with literally just one grape in it...really? At least five of the dishes were returned only to come back cold "AGAIN." Ok...it was Sunday morning which can be quite busy I understand but they should already know what the deal is on Sunday, It's "Family day" and they should be well prepared even in the midst of a problem. The waitress told us one of the cooks apparently walked out... My problem? I think not. I just want to spend a good time with good food with my family. The experience as well as the service was way below average and alot of us left completely unsatisfied. In the end the manager did take some money off of the bill. Who doesn't love a 24 hour diner right down the street from their house? Empire Diner has been our establishment of choice for Sunday breakfast quite a few times in recent months. I usually go with an omelette (I switch up what I put in it every time) and they never disappoint. The eggs are always nice and hot, the veggies are always fresh and the home fries are killer! I've also tried their breakfast sandwiches and pancakes - while they were still pretty good, I always tend to go back to the omelettes! Though we've never had any meal besides breakfast at Empire, we did get a couple orders of wings to-go one late night - they were bangin!! The only downside is the service at times - our favorite server, Pepper, is a sweet older lady with an eccentric choice in jewelry. She was fantastic, but since we've had her, few have lived up to her standard since. I used to go to this place when it was the Blue Comet. I believe it's changed hands a few times since then, but he food has always been pretty good for a diner. The Empire has good inexpensive food. Service is quick and entrees are served with a cup of soup or a decent sized salad, various types of fresh breads and usually 2 vegs (of your choice). The portion sizes are fairly large, so unless you're a big eater, be prepared to take some home, or skip dessert. My only complaint would be that the pasta is sometimes a little overcooked.
