While $25 for a burger with a side of onion rings and tap water feels like a bit much, I'd do it again because the burger was that good! Really, a juicy and flavorful airport burger - yes!!! I had the Ember burger on a wonderfully buttery-tasting fresh brioche bun. My burger came warm enough for me, with crispy applewood smoked bacon, Redneck cheddar, Bibb lettuce, and jalapeño aioli cooked to medium, exactly as requested via the convenient iPad order system at the table. As for the iPad ordering system, it would be better if a button to call for a water refill was available. While the ads popping up on the screen don't create a relaxing dining experience, the restaurant is located in a noisy airport, so it wasn't somewhere I'd go for a relaxed atmosphere in the first place. 3 instead of 4 stars due to the onion rings arriving soft (not soggy, but definitely lacking crispness) and at room temp. I agree with all these reviews that the concept is great but execution leaves a lot to be desired. I work in technology. I'm passionate about user experience. This is so far from anything remotely tolerable. Where to start? 1. Tables were not bussed. We literally had to push the "call for service button" and then grab a waiter to get our table cleared from the previous guests. Grossss. 2. Imagine this: you're parched. And slightly hungover. And can't figure out how to get water. We had to flag someone down (again) to bring waters. OTG: Ordering waters should be an option under "drinks". Sorry that it's free, but IMO, having that option is better than a crappy Yelp review and delivering an even crappier customer experience. Just sayin'. 3. Food was mediocre. We ordered wings and a chicken salad. Wings were fine--liked the sauce. Chicken on the salad was dry, but it's what you would expect from airport chicken. 4. No napkins or utensils were delivered with our food. WTF. Am I supposed to use my hands? Had to flag someone down (3rd time) to get napkins and utensils. Someone made a comment about the plastic knife. Not upset about that as it's not their fault (TSA restriction). 5. Food arrived before our bottle of wine did. Had to flag someone down (4th time) to go grab it. At which point, we only had about half an hour to drink it. Good thing we love wine and this is not our first rodeo. 6. System reset before we could checkout so I had no idea what the tab was until I saw it on my credit card statement. Looks like they gave themselves a 20% tip for absolutely NO SERVICE. While I like this bar, and what they have, I feel like they really want to take the personal interaction with the servers here, away. Maybe for anti-social people or cheap no tip people, this is great but I dont like that I have to order on a screen, assume the server got the order and will eventually bring it to me. And this is basically how I came to my rating because there was a lot of "how does this work" with no help from the staff. I had to ask the person sitting next to me. If it wasn't for them, I would have no idea what I was doing. Seems way too complicated just to get served even though, its not complicated. You just have to figure out quickly, how it works then its easy for next time. Just seems so impersonal and why would you even want to tip the staff for this? we had a layover in Houston and wanted something besides fast food to eat. The menu looked good. We ordered off the iPad with no problem, I didn't understand why anyone else could not figure it out, but also, I am 22. Of course the food was pricey, it's an airport. Yes they gave us a metal fork and plastic knife, but that's literally the policy at every restaurant in the Houston airport so it's really not the restaurant's fault. We waited only 15 minutes for our food and we had a server introduce herself to us before we ordered and asked if we knew how to use the iPad, and she checked in us regularly. The restaurant was also pretty slow, so that may have contributed to our good Service. After a horrid experience with rude TSA agents, Angie immediately turned our day around with her kindness and personability. Being a geek, I love the idea at Ember. They are far from cracking the code though. Ordered a glass of Federalist Cabernet at 5PM at station near gate C3. 10 min later - nothing, except I get prompted for a refill! I hit the "call your server" button. Another 10 minutes pass - nothing. I walk to the main bar and wait 5 minutes to be acknowledged. Once I got a hold of Sean/Shawn (sp?), he took good care of me, although no one at the bar knew what Federalist is, so I was given an alternative cabernet. I then ordered the shrimp cocktail and received it relatively quickly, but the girl who brought it out dropped it front of me so fast, I could not alert her that I needed a place setting/napkin. One more escalation to the bar. The huge "beer pipe" in front of the bar makes it very difficult to get bartenders' attention, so that was another 5 minutes. Not a great experience today. read more

You order and pay from it you scan your boarding pass and it tells you you can pay by card or in miles. It's got tv screens and the seats are comfy. The wait staff is very nice, helpful, and don't hover like vultures. The only downer, and it's very minor, was that they ran out of Diet Coke. I highly recommend this place. It's awesome. I came here because I was attracted to the large number of beer taps. Don't come here if you're looking for some beer... The beer list is mediocre. Anyway, I don't understand the iPad ordering system. My wife and I sat at the beer and the service was completely cold.. The bartender didn't even crack a smile and was completely disinterested. I'm not gonna make too big a deal over airport food pricing but for almost $30 for a chicken sandwich, fries and a small drink, I should expect really good service. They got me my $5 small drink almost right away, cool. But my chicken sandwich and fries took almost 30 minutes to get. When I asked one of the waiters for an update, they got me the food immediately. I didn't eat my half because it was awful. The chicken wings were cool, just dumped in sauce and looked liked it had freezer burn on the wings. I didn't eat those either , my husband ate 2 of them too. Our fault because we should have returned our food but we didn't. I needed a big breakfast before a long-haul flight. I went with Ember given the open kitchen so that I could see they were cooking real food. I had a custom omelette (chorizo-spinach-mushroom), which was quite good. The salad greeens and home fries were solid as well. I would come back again. Love the ipad ordering system (and games) and really love that there are pictures of ALL the food so you know what to expect (and yes, the food we received looked like the pics!), but you will still rely on your server for any customizations. So, the service...excellent! Our server, Jesus, has been added to our VIP list. We're special customers who never order anything the way it comes, lol! For that reason, we request certain servers everywhere we go and they know we tip well. =D The pricing coupled with our desire to tip above and beyond mean that eating here everyday isn't feasible (we live here...read: we work at the airport), but the portions, quality and service justify those prices/tips and we can't wait to return! I thought allowing myself 45 mins to order, eat, and maybe take a to go plate would be enough time....I thought wrong. I don't know if it's their iPad ordering system or if the service just sucks. The iPad can be a bit confusing but I got it down without any assistance. However to track down someone to order ice water took me ten mins. Then for her to bring it out took awhile. Finally 15mins before I had to board my plane (that now being 30mins since I ordered) I asked how much longer my food would take, I was told it should be another 10-15 mins. I asked them to box up my meal (breakfast sandwich with side salad) which somehow then came faster than anything - about two mins! After the server walked away I realized I was missing silverware. She brought them, then I realized I was missing napkins and the egg on the sandwich was super runny. She brought napkins, then I realized there was no dressing on the salad and none on the side either. Very frustrating when you have a flight to catch. Food was decent and filling. However I'm sure there are places in this airport with food just as good, and much better/faster service. Ok. So, the iPads are not that bad. If you are familiar with technology, honestly you'll be fine. Also I found the waiters to be extremely attentive. A couple across from me could not for the life of them figure out the iPad, but if you don't know how to use one then simply don't go to this restaurant.
