I needed a big breakfast before a long-haul flight. I went with Ember given the open kitchen so that I could see they were cooking real food. I had a custom omelette (chorizo-spinach-mushroom), which was quite good. The salad greeens and home fries were solid as well. I would come back again. My biggest quibble would be the delay in coffee service once I ordered. When you come to a sit down restaurant for breakfast you need the coffee asap! read more

Love the ipad ordering system (and games) and really love that there are pictures of ALL the food so you know what to expect (and yes, the food we received looked like the pics!), but you will still rely on your server for any customizations. So, the service...excellent! Our server, Jesus, has been added to our VIP list. We're special customers who never order anything the way it comes, lol! For that reason, we request certain servers everywhere we go and they know we tip well. =D The pricing coupled with our desire to tip above and beyond mean that eating here everyday isn't feasible (we live here...read: we work at the airport), but the portions, quality and service justify those prices/tips and we can't wait to return! We met the Mgr, Joseph (I refuse to butcher his last name here), and he was as nice and funny and accommodating as Jesus. If you had a bad experience here, pls give them another chance. read more

I thought allowing myself 45 mins to order, eat, and maybe take a to go plate would be enough time....I thought wrong. I don't know if it's their iPad ordering system or if the service just sucks. The iPad can be a bit confusing but I got it down without any assistance. However to track down someone to order ice water took me ten mins. Then for her to bring it out took awhile. Finally 15mins before I had to board my plane (that now being 30mins since I ordered) I asked how much longer my food would take, I was told it should be another 10-15 mins. I asked them to box up my meal (breakfast sandwich with side salad) which somehow then came faster than anything - about two mins! After the server walked away I realized I was missing silverware. She brought them, then I realized I was missing napkins and the egg on the sandwich was super runny. She brought napkins, then I realized there was no dressing on the salad and none on the side either. Very frustrating when you have a flight to catch. Food was decent and filling. However I'm sure there are places in this airport with food just as good, and much better/faster service. I just realized I asked for a vinaigrette dressing and got ranch, but I'm over asking for ....ya know, the items that were mentioned on the menu...?! read more

Ember - Ordering system sucks - American Near Me - Houston, Texas

Ok. So, the iPads are not that bad. If you are familiar with technology, honestly you'll be fine. Also I found the waiters to be extremely attentive. A couple across from me could not for the life of them figure out the iPad, but if you don't know how to use one then simply don't go to this restaurant. As for the food, my burger was extremely over cooked for a medium (it was super grey) but the fries were good. Food for me was a 2 but i like not having to talk to people so i loved the iPads :) read more

One word: CATFISHPOBOY - fresh - well-cooked - huge - well-seasoned Excellent You show me a kitchen with OPEN wood-burning fire, in the middle of an airport, and I am THERE! The cooks in the kitchen DID NOT come to play and patter around. The meal prep was real, the servers were moving, but helpful. 5 Star food and service, considering that it's smack-dab in the middle of an extremely busy airport! Go Houston, #dontmesswithTexas!! #Caligirl read more

I think management may have addressed some of the previous complaints in the reviews as they are totally different than my experience? My wife and I decided to eat here because they had the nicest decor of the iPad restaurants in the terminal. We ordered breakfast tacos, which arrived quickly and the food was hot. The iPad menu system was very easy to use and will also scan your boarding pass to expedite your order if you don't have much time. Water was ordered through the iPad and the utensils were already at the table when you sit down. Our waiter was also pretty attentive with water and coffee as needed. Overall, good food with nice ambiance. We would eat here again in the future. read more

Ember - I've taken ONE SIP of this miserable Bloody Mary. 0/10 - American Near Me - Houston, Texas

Horrible. Don't waste your money. Cold, unfriendly service. My $15 "extra spicy bloody mary" was watered down tomato juice, literally in a juice glass. Tiny, zero flavor. The fries were good, at least, and so was a craft IPA (11 Below Hipster Sauce). Sent the drink back and was offered a replacement (no thanks) but not my money back. Then, when I asked for a beer instead to try to get my money's worth, the server told me my card had been refunded. Shouldn't have had to ask.Crap experience. read more

Ember - AWFUL bloody Mary. - American Near Me - Houston, Texas

Thirsty for a Bloody Mary? Well, don't believe that what you order will look anything like how they describe it! It's supposed to be garnished with parsley, black olives, pickled pepper, and Parmesan. When the server arrived with my order, I noticed that the garnishes weren't there so I asked for them. He said he would check. Never returned. Oh, and did you customize it and ask for celery and extra spicy? Sorry, you don't get that either! If you want to tip, you have to decide the amount when you place the order and pay. What a waste of almost $20. Go elsewhere. read more

Gluten Free Review +gluten free menu on the ipad. Stopped in here for quick layover and decided to try "Ember", which had about 5 employees standing next to my table even though you order and do everything on ipads. The gluten free menu was pathetic and way over priced. So I opted for some wings, there were two options, one was spicy wings and other were jasper (something like that) I figured they were not spicy wings. However, first bite was completely burn your mouth spicy, then I realized they were deep fried and I asked for the manager, he told me these were not gluten free and I explained I got them from the gluten free menu. He then looked at me like oh your one of those guy's who wants something for free and took the wings off. Thanks for taking them off the check, next time someone orders gluten free take it serious or you'll be looking a lawsuit. read more

This morning- 9/20-We walk up and see the manager- I'm assuming - the only guy in a blue button up- on the computer- I ask if we can sit anywhere - as we've never been here. Granted it's 5:55 am but lights are on, other people are sitting down. He looks around and says "sure".....ok.... so we sit... then we're clickin on the screens for menu and notice it's not working so It just not be open for food yet, manager guy walks by and we ask is the kitchen not open. And with an rude face and tone says "uh; not yet" and walks off and we're like ok so is It closed and he said for one more minute and walks off. Great customer service guy! I hope this company realizes what a gem they have in you. read more

$25 for a week ass Bloody Mary and $23 for a crappy chicken sandwich. They could've at least warmed up the bun. It was straight out of the bag. Really disappointed after dealing with security and them making miss my flight. I just wanted a good drink and a decent meal. I came to the wrong place. Please avoid this place if possible. Service and this restaurant lacks any type of service. Servers here act like they don't want to be here and give the impression that they are bothering you. Food was good which is the reason for the 2 stars but service really needs to be improved. The new ordering system is cool but. I one came over to show me. I had to just figure it out and was able to order my food and a drink. I asked for two things from two different servers and received NONE. 1 server I asked for a side of ranch with my food and she said ok but never returned The other server I asked for water and guess what???? Never got any water. Go figure Not trying to be racists or anything but the Caucasian servers I witnessed helping and friendly and engaging with the customers where the others kind of hung around the entrance of the kitchen laughing and having a good time with the Chef and cook staff. Lastly the app needs to be adjust to give more time to close your check. I was still eating and I received my receipt by email and my check closed on the iPad. It just assumed I wanted to leave a tip after the lack of service I received. read more

This place looks modern and has tablet at each seat for you to order. Unfortunately, this is the worst rip-off you can find at the Houston airport. Food is of very questionable quality at a extremly expensive price. As I was trying to avoid a heavy burger I chose a ahi tuna plate at nearly $40. At this price and with the volume of customers I thought it cannot be bad... The piece of fish was so hard and full of nerve the cook himself struggled to cut it: I was observing through the glass window... Once I found out it was my plate...I tried cutting it and eating: I could not. It was the worst piece of raw tuna I had ever seen: a big slob full of nerve that could not be sliced nor chewed. When I told the waitress I could not eat it as it was too bad, she just took the plate away without a word and did not come back... Quite surprising! I did not bother making a fuss as my plane was boarding but I swore I would not make that mistake twice. read more

Pretty bad. Not sure how you make a meatloaf sandwich as dry as sawdust, but they succeeded. Also the whole self order iPad thing means good luck trying to get more ketchup or a napkin or any service for that matter. I'll probably stick to fast food in Houston. Food was good. Whole set up and service is horrible. I hate the iPad on every table thing. Such a gimmick, and then, even after ordering all on one ticket, one person in our party of 3 received her order 20 min after the rest of us. (If a restaurant goes all high tech, isn't it suppose to improve things like this?) And when it was delivered and the rest of us were done eating, no apology for the wait whatsoever. Also, If you have food allergies and need to order something off your order, good luck! If they have it listed, you can, but otherwise no way to handle. (I told my waiter and he said he'd tell the chef, and then forgot). Everything about this service model is rather horrible. Next time I'll go to Wendy's across the way and have mediocre food to not have to deal with the horrible service / impersonal model at this expensive airport option. read more

Horribly slow service, indifferent wait staff, overpriced food, mediocre quality. Other choices in terminal that would provide similar quality without the aggravation and the wait. This place is horrible. Super slow service, despite the fact you order/interact via an iPad. Stay away from the gross pork belly Ruben sandwich. The iPad ordering system worked fairly seamlessly for me and I received my food promptly. I made my own burger and it was cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor. While the food was good, most of the stars in this review are for my server Jeremy. I had asked at least 3 other people for water and was ignored, when I asked Jeremy he had water out in minutes. I had two hours and needed breakfast so I figured I would give it a try. I had the eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns with an extra biscuit(3 bucks). The hashbrowns were ok and so were the eggs. But the bacon was so fatty, I could not eat it. The biscuit was also terrible. And the side of butter they gave me did not even look like butter more like something that was melted and then refrozen to make it solid again. And this breakfast also costed 28 dollars. I will say the staff was friendly and the ipad on my table was a cool touch. read more

Terrible. Horrible. Overpriced. This place seemed promising initially: usb/electrical outlets at each seat modern design and decor. self ordering system via an iPad... don't fall for it! The Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich ($14) tasted like the chicken was fried this morning and kept under a warmer. Over cooked, dry, chewy. The Shrimp Po Boy ($16) was decent. It basically tasted like a salad with shrimp on a bread roll. The Bloody Mary ($16) was terrible. The Bloody Mary mix was bland and there's no option to customize other than to add lemon and celery or not. However, even tho it offered me celery, my drink came out with no celery because they were "out of it"... 10mins later, the next table over received a few celery sticks with their wings. Rum & Coke w/Captain Morgan ($11) was basic. Hard to mess up 2 ingredients. *** Side note: the drinks are tiny. Literally about 2/3 as tall as the forks you eat with. *** The tip (18%) is automatically tacked onto your bill which is paid for at the time you order on your own, and before any type of service ha actually even been provided. Be careful with that because I guarantee you'll regret such a generous tip once you experience the lack of enthusiasm from these employees. I recommend you eat at Wendy's across the walkway. And if you decide to come here anyway, may the Lord be with you and shed a tremendous amount of patience over you. read more

So I and my coworkers stopped here for a layover meal...my bosses "iPad" didn't work the serviced unplugged it replugged it and walked away which did nothing....eventually we all ordered and very slowly the food began to arrive my burger however took about 45 minutes....everyone else was done eating by the time mine showed up. The food was just ok for the price and super greasy. The worst was the servers. They clearly care nothing about their jobs because your tip is built in at the beginning ... yes that's right....regardless of party size (there were only 3 of us) they auto charge a 15% tip and you must pay before the food order goes to the kitchen. Since they know they are tipped they do not care AT ALL!! AVOID and if u want a burger go to the Wendy's next door!! read more

One of the worst breakfasts I have ever eaten. If you didn't brown bag, wait for the stale airplane pretzels. They are better and won't cost $44 for two people. And the airline doesn't have a 55 cent upcharge for half and half with your coffee (Really!). Enough sage in the omelette that my wife couldn't taste anything else. Cold toast with no butter, and the replacement toast was barely toasted but at least warm. Scorched eggs. No condiments on the table and the very sweet waitress was so overworked that the food was cold by the time she got back with salt pepper and ketchup. We ate half and gave up in disgust. Update: the manager was very professional and offered to comp the food. read more

First visited this restaurant days after it opened for breakfast & the manager paid for my breakfast. A LOT went wrong & I assumed it was "a new concept still working out the kinks." I gave them several other opportunities to correct the mistakes, no improvement. iPad ordering system is ok, limiting if you want to add or change ingredients to your order. Today I ordered the Roasted Beet Salad with "red and yellow beats and they add arugula... ". The salad brought out was a plate of arugula, 3 shaved radish pieces, 2 pickled onion strips & a few yellow beats. No goat cheese & no red beats (per menu). This salad should be named the arugula salad. Waiter told me they don't always have both colors of the beats??? He did bring more yellow beats & some goat cheese after my request. Brussels Sprouts were burnt, not crispy as advertised wasted $9. This is my 4th & final visit & still they offer plastic knifes - by now should have complete silverware for the menu price point. If I wanted plastic utensils I would eat fast food. Good luck getting any of the staff to willingly help or make eye contact with the guests. Management, Staff looks unhappy & needs more customer service training. read more

Ember - American Near Me - Houston, Texas

I was traveling with my 6 month old son which was very stressful because he is squirmy and prone to crying. When we finally got though checkpoint my family and I went to get food because we were all hangry. My aunt decided on Ember. I am vegan. They have a limited number of foods I could order so I went with the Brussels sprout appetizer and the beet salad no cheese. The brussel spouts were bland and tasteless and definitely over cooked. So I returned them and decided just to eat my salad. As soon as I started digging into my salad I noticed that there was cheese in the dish. I was very clear when I told the server that I was vegan and that I didn't want cheese. When I finally flagged the server after several minutes he looked very annoyed, took the dish and then stormed off. I was brought a new salad from a different server. The original server never returned. Even though I saw him helping the other tables. But I guess my dietary restrictions were too annoying for him to handle with polite regard. Overall the experience was awful. I did like the salad but the quality of service overrides everything for me. read more

Overpriced and under-delivered. Orange Juice was rotten and had to be replaced and the Eggs Benedict is served on a biscuit that crumbles and falls apart without supporting the ham or the egg. Very mediocre, and definitely not worth a $30 tab for a single breakfast. I'm sure they think that their all-iPad ordering system is very hip and cool, but it fails all around. They need to put more attention to the steak instead of the sizzle... a restaurant should be focused on product, not pretentious image. Finally, you had to enter your tip amount on your check before you received the food! Now I think I know why. I went here because my regular, dependable spot at this airport, Real Food, doesn't open until 8 AM and there wasn't time to wait, and I was looking forward to trying something new... what a disappointment. It appears from the other reviews that mine was not an unusual experience for this restaurant. I am not planning to return to Ember. read more

I doubt the business owner gives a sh** about this review. Obviously didn't care about the service. Yea ordered at an iPad, food was delivered. No salt, no check in, no is your $60 steak prepared how your ordered it... didn't even bother to clear the table when I was finished. I truly don't mind an iPad server but todo t have the balls to ask me for a 18% tip when I only saw a server 2 seconds when my meal was delivered. If you want any service whatsoever forget it.
